First Reading (Malachi 3: 19–20)
A reading from the book of the Prophet Malachi.
The day already comes, flaming as a furnace. On that day all the proud and evildoers will be burned like straw in the fire. They will be left without branches or roots. On the other hand the sun of justice will shine upon you who respect my Name and bring health in its rays. You will come out leaping like fattened calves.
Second Reading (2 Thessalonians 3: 7–12)
A reading from the second letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians.
You know how you ought to follow our example: we worked while we were with you. Day and night we labored and toiled so as not to be a burden to any of you. We had the right to act otherwise, but we wanted to give you an example. Besides, while we were with you, we stated clearly: If anyone is not willing to work, neither should that one eat. However, we heard that some among you live in idleness — busybodies, doing no work. In the name of Christ Jesus our Lord we command these people to work and earn their own living.
Gospel (Luke 21: 5–19)

While some people were talking about the Temple, remarking that it was adorned with fine stone-work and rich gifts, Jesus stated to them, "The days will come when there shall not be left one stone upon another of all that you now admire; all will be torn down." And they asked him, "Master when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?" Jesus then stated, "Take care not to be deceived, for many will come claiming my title and stating: 'I am he, the Messiah; the time is at hand.' Do not follow them. When you hear of wars and troubled times, do not be frightened; for all this must happen first, even though the end is not so soon." And Jesus stated, "Nations will fight each other and kingdom will oppose kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines, and plagues; in many places strange and terrifying signs from heaven will be seen. Before all this happens, people will lay their hands on you and persecute you; you will be delivered to the Jewish courts and be put in prison, and for my sake you will be brought before kings and governors. This will be your opportunity to bear witness. So keep this in mind: do not worry in advance about what to answer, for I will give you words and wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, and brothers, by relatives and friends, and some of you will be put to death. But even though you are hated by all for my name's sake, not a hair of your head will perish. Through perseverance you will possess your own selves."

Sing praise to the Lord by breaking into song, with the melody of the lyre and with the music of the harp. With trumpet blast and sound of the horn, rejoice before the King, the Lord!
Let the sea resound and everything in it, the world and all its peoples. Let rivers clap their hands, hills and mountains sing with joy.
Before the Lord, for he comes to rule the earth; he will judge the world with justice and the peoples with fairness.

Porque llega el Día, abrasador como un horno. Todos los arrogantes y los que hacen el mal serán como paja; el Día que llega los consumirá, dice el Señor de los ejércitos, hasta no dejarles raíz ni rama. Pero para ustedes, los que temen mi Nombre, brillará el sol de justicia que trae la salud en sus rayos, y saldrán brincando como terneros bien alimentados.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 4B–9)
La respuesta es: El Señor viene para regir la Tierra con justicia.
• Prorrumpan en cantos jubilosos. Canten al Señor con el arpa y al son de instrumentos musicales; con clarines y sonidos de trompeta aclamen al Señor, que es Rey.
• Resuene el mar y todo lo que hay en él, el mundo y todos sus habitantes; aplaudan las corrientes del océano, griten de gozo las montañas al unísono.
• Griten de gozo delante del Señor, porque él viene a gobernar la tierra; él gobernará al mundo con justicia, y a los pueblos con rectitud.
Segunda Lectura (2 Tesalonicenses 3: 7–12)

Porque ustedes ya saben cómo deben seguir nuestro ejemplo. Cuando estábamos entre ustedes, no vivíamos como holgazanes, y nadie nos regalaba el pan que comíamos. Al contrario, trabajábamos duramente, día y noche, hasta cansarnos, con tal de no ser una carga para ninguno de ustedes. Aunque teníamos el derecho de proceder de otra manera, queríamos darles un ejemplo para imitar. En aquella ocasión les impusimos esta regla: el que no quiera trabajar, que no coma. Ahora, sin embargo, nos enteramos de que algunos de ustedes viven ociosamente, no haciendo nada y entrometiéndose en todo. A estos les mandamos y los exhortamos en el Señor Jesucristo que trabajen en paz para ganarse su pan.
Evangelio (Lucas 21: 5–19)

Y como algunos, hablando del Templo, decían que estaba adornado con hermosas piedras y ofrendas votivas, Jesús dijo: “De todo lo que ustedes contemplan, un día no quedará piedra sobre piedra: todo será destruido.” Ellos le preguntaron “Maestro, ¿cuándo tendrá lugar esto, y cuál será la señal de que va suceder?” Jesús respondió: “Tengan cuidado, no se dejen engañar, porque muchos se presentarán en mi Nombre, diciendo: ‘Soy yo’, y también: ‘El tiempo está cerca.’ No los sigan. Cuando oigan hablar de guerras y revoluciones no se alarmen; es necesario que esto ocurra antes, pero no llegará tan pronto el fin.” Después les dijo: “Se levantará nación contra nación y reino contra reino. Habrá grandes terremotos; peste y hambre en muchas partes; se verán también fenómenos aterradores y grandes señales en cielo. Pero antes de todo eso, los detendrán, los perseguirán, los entregarán a las sinagogas y serán encarcelados; los llevarán ante reyes y gobernadores a causa de mi Nombre, y esto les sucederá para que puedan dar testimonio de mí. Tengan bien presente que no deberá preparar su defensa, porque yo mismo les daré una elocuencia y una sabiduría que ninguno de sus adversarios podrá resistir ni contradecir. Serán entregados hasta por sus propios padres y hermanos, por sus parientes y amigos; y a muchos de ustedes los matarán. Serán odiados por todos a causa de mi Nombre. Pero ni siquiera un cabello se les caerá de la cabeza. Gracias a la constancia salvarán sus vidas.”
