First Reading (Isaiah 11: 1–10)
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
From the stump of Jesse a shoot will come forth; from his roots a branch will grow and bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest upon him – a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and power, a Spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord. Not by appearances will he judge, nor by what is stated must he decide, but with justice he will judge the poor and with righteousness decide for the meek. Like a rod, his word will strike the oppressor, and the breath of his lips slay the wicked. Justice will be the girdle of his waist, truth the girdle of his loins. The wolf will dwell with the lamb, the leopard will rest beside the kid, the calf and the lion cub will feed together and a little child will lead them. Befriending each other, the cow and the bear will see their young ones lie down together. Like cattle, the lion will eat hay. By the cobra's den the infant will play. The child will put his hand into the viper's lair. No one will harm or destroy over my holy mountain, for as water fills the sea, and the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord. On that day the "Root of Jesse" will be raised as a signal for the nations. The people will come in search of him, thus making his dwelling place glorious.
Second Reading (Romans 15: 4–9)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.
Brothers and sisters: We know that whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, for both perseverance and comfort given us by the Scripture sustain our hope. May God, the source of all perseverance and comfort, give to all of you to live in peace in Christ Jesus, that you may be able to praise in one voice God, Father of Christ Jesus, our Lord. Welcome, then, one another, as Christ welcomed you for the glory of God. Look: Christ put himself at the service of the Jewish world to fulfill the promises made by God to their ancestors; here you see God's faithfulness. The pagans instead give thanks to God for his mercy, as Scripture says: Because of that, I will sing and praise your name among the pagans.
Gospel (Matthew 3: 1–12)

In the course of time John the Baptist appeared in the desert of Judea and began to proclaim his message, "Change your ways, the Kingdom of heaven is now at hand!" It was about him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he stated, A voice shouting in the desert: prepare a way for the Lord; make his paths straight. John had a leather garment around his waist and wore a cloak of camel's hair; his food was locusts and wild honey. People came to him from Jerusalem, from all Judea and from the whole Jordan valley, and they were baptized by him in the Jordan as they confessed their sins. When he saw several Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he baptized, he stated to them, "Brood of vipers! Who told you that you could escape the punishment that is to come? Let it be seen that you are serious in your conversion, and do not think: We have Abraham for our father. I tell you that God can raise children for Abraham from these stones! The axe is already laid to the roots of the trees; any tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown in the fire. I baptize you in water for a change of heart, but the one who is coming after me is more powerful than me; indeed I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire. He has the winnowing fan in his hand and he will clear out his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn in everlasting fire."

ReplyDeleteThe response is: Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace forever.
O God, endow the king with your justice, the royal son with righteousness. May he rule your people justly and defend the rights of the lowly.
Justice will flower in his days, and peace abound till the moon be no more. For he reigns from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth.
He delivers the needy who call on him, the afflicted with no one to help them. His mercy is upon the weak in the poor, he saves the life of the poor.
May his name endure forever; may his name endure forever; may his name be as lasting as the sun. All the races will boast about him, and he will be blessed by all nations.
The theme for the 2nd Sunday of Advent is to prepare the way of the Lord.
ReplyDeleteIsaiah stated in Chapter 40: Verse 3: "A voice cries, in the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord. Make straight in the desert a highway for our God."
Priest: Father, as we journey down this Advent road, we relight the candle of hope, and we light a candle of peace. Grant us the courage to make peace: peace in our hearts, peace in our homes, and peace in our communities. (Amen)
The father of the chosen family lights the two purple candles of the Advent Wreath. During that time, the choir will sing "Change My Heart Oh God".

ReplyDeleteHello everybody. I realize that the High School students in Jakarta International School will start their semester test on the ninth of December until the sixteenth of December. I would like to wish Sean the best of luck in those semester tests, and hope that he will be successful in the first semester.

ReplyDeleteSean, I would just like to say, good luck. Those semester tests may be difficult, but I believe that you may surpass them to have those transcripts sent to the universities. Good luck again! I motivate you to study!
ReplyDeleteNever thought of it this way, I love you, Sean. Not that I am gay or anything, but you have learned the art of shuffling and made it half-way through the school year of your freshman life. Your first semester test, is to be completed that you have the knowledge to send to the universities that you know the stuff. Good luck Sean! May the Lord bless you in your quest to become the greatest student in Jakarta International School. Wow, that is so much to say.

Una rama saldrá del tronco de Jesé, un brote surgirá de sus raíces. Sobre él reposará el Espíritu de Yahvé, espíritu de sabiduría e inteligencia espíritu de prudencia y valentía, espíritu para conocer a Yahvé y para respetarlo, y para gobernar según sus preceptos. No juzgará por las apariencias ni se decidirá por lo que se dice, sino que hará justicia a los débiles y defenderá el derecho de los pobres del país. Su palabra derribará al opresor, el soplo de sus labios matará al malvado. Tendrá como cinturón la justicia, y la lealtad será el ceñidor de sus caderas. El lobo habitará con el cordero, el puma se acostará junto al cabrito, el ternero comerá al lado del león y un niño chiquito los cuidará. La vaca y el oso pastarán en compañía y sus crías reposarán juntas, pues el león también comerá pasto, igual que el buey. El niño de pecho jugará sobre el nido de la víbora, y en la cueva de la culebra el pequeñuelo meterá su mano. Ahora bien, todo lo que ha sido escrito en el pasado, ha sido escrito para nuestra instrucción, a fin de que por la constancia y el consuelo que dan las Escrituras, mantengamos la esperanza. Que el Dios de la constancia y del consuelo les conceda tener los mismos sentimientos unos hacia otros, a ejemplo de Cristo Jesús, para que con un solo corazón y una sola voz, glorifiquen a Dios, el Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Sean mutuamente acogedores, como Cristo los acogió a ustedes para la gloria de Dios. Porque les aseguro que Cristo se hizo servidor de los judíos para confirmar la fidelidad de Dios, cumpliendo las promesas que él había hecho a nuestros padres, y para que los paganos glorifiquen a Dios por su misericordia. Así lo enseña la Escritura cuando dice: ‘Yo te alabaré en medio de las naciones, Señor, y cantaré en honor de tu Nombre.’

Por aquel tiempo se presentó Juan Bautista y empezó a predicar en el desierto de Judea; éste era su mensaje: “Renuncien a su mal camino, porque el Reino de los Cielos está cerca.” Es a Juan a quien se refería el profeta Isaías cuando decía: Una voz grita en el desierto: Preparen un camino al Señor; hagan sus senderos rectos. Además de la piel que le ceñía la cintura, Juan no tenía más que un manto hecho de pelo de camello. Su comida eran langostas y miel silvestre. Venían a verlo de Jerusalén, de toda la Judea y de la región del Jordán. Y además de confesar sus pecados, se hacían bautizar por Juan en el río Jordán. Juan vio que un grupo de fariseos y de saduceos habían venido donde él bautizaba, y les dijo: “Raza de víboras, ¿cómo van a pensar que escaparán del castigo que se les viene encima? Muestren los frutos de una sincera conversión, pues de nada les sirve decir: Abraham es nuestro padre. Yo les aseguro que Dios es capaz de sacar hijos de Abraham aun de estas piedras. El hacha ya está puesta a la raíz de los árboles, y todo árbol que no da buen fruto, será cortado y arrojado al fuego. Yo los bautizo en el agua, y es el camino a la conversión. Pero después de mí viene uno con mucho más poder que yo, ni siquiera merezco llevarle las sandalias, él los bautizará en el Espíritu Santo y el fuego.
