First Reading (Acts 2: 14a and 36-41)
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, and, with a loud voice, addressed the people, "Let Israel then know for sure that God has made Lord and Christ this Jesus whom you crucified." When they heard this, they were deeply troubled. And they asked Peter and the other apostles, "What shall we do, brothers?" Peter answered: "Each of you must repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins may be forgiven. Then you all receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise of God was made to you and your children, and to all those from afar whom our God may call." With many other words Peter gave the message and appealed to them stating, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation." So those who accepted his word were baptized; some three thousand persons were added to their number that day.
Second Reading (1 Peter 2: 20b-25)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Peter.
Brothers and sisters: If you endure punishment when you have done well, that is a grace of God. This is your calling: remember Christ who suffered for you, leaving an example so that you may follow in his way. He did no wrong and there was no deceit in his mouth. He did not return insult for insult and, when suffering, he did not curse but put himself in the hands of God who judges justly. He went to the cross burdened with our sins so that we might die to sin and live an upright life. For by his wounds you have been healed. You were like stray sheep, but you have come back to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.
Gospel (John 10: 1-10)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.
Jesus stated this to his disciples and the Pharisees, "Truly, I say to you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate, but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber. But the shepherd of the sheep enters by the gate. The keeper opens the gate to him and the sheep hear his voice; he calls each of his sheep by name and leads them out. When has brought out all his own, he goes before them and the sheep follow him for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, rather they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice." Jesus used this comparison, but they did not understand what he was stating to them. Therefore, Jesus stated, "Truly, I say to you, I am the gate of the sheep. All who came were thieves and robbers, and the sheep did not hear them. I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved; he will go in and out freely and find food. The thief comes to steal and kill and destroy, but I have come that they may have life, life in all its fullness."

Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 23) (Verses 1-6)

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters, he restores my soul.
He guides me through the right paths for his name's sake. Although I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for you are beside me: your rod and your staff comfort me.
You spread a table before me in the presence of my foes. You anoint my head with oil; my cup is overflowing.
Goodness and kindness will follow me all the days of my life. I shall dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live.
This the Kyrie for the 4th Sunday of Easter.

God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, though your people walk in the valley of darkness, no evil should they fear; for they follow in faith the call of the shepherd whom you have sent for their hope and strength. Attune our minds to the sound of his voice, lead our steps in the path he has shown, that we may know the strength of his outstretched arm and enjoy the light of your presence forever. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.
Lord, restore us by these Easter mysteries. May the continuing work of our redeemer bring us eternal joy. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
ReplyDeleteFather, all-powerful and ever-living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord. We praise you with greater joy than ever in this Easter season, when Christ became our paschal sacrifice. He is the true Lamb who took away the sins of the world. By dying he destroyed our death; by rising he restored our life. And so, with all the choir of angels in heaven, we proclaim your glory and join in their unending hymn of praise. ReplyDeleteYes! First to speak up on this post. I would like to reflect on Father Ignatius' homily about the son converted into Islamic religion. Why did the son choose his different religion? Was it immoral? I do not know.

Entonces, Pedro poniéndose de pie con los Once, levantó la voz y dijo: “Por eso, todo el pueblo de Israel debe reconocer que a ese Jesús que ustedes crucificaron, Dios lo ha hecho Señor y Mesías.” Al oír estas cosas, todos se conmovieron profundamente, y dijeron a Pedro y a los otros Apóstoles: “Hermanos, ¿qué debemos hacer?” Pedro les respondió: “Conviértanse y háganse bautizar en el nombre de Jesucristo para que les sean perdonados los pecados, y así recibirán el don del Espíritu Santo. Porque la promesa ha sido hecha a ustedes y a sus hijos, y a todos aquellos que están lejos: a cuantos el Señor, nuestro Dios, quiera llamar.” Y con muchos otros argumentos les daban testimonio y los exhortaba a que se pusieran a salvo de esta generación perversa. Los que recibieron su palabra se hicieron bautizar; y ese día se unieron a ellos alrededor de tres mil.

La respuesta es: El Señor es mi pastor, nada me puede faltar.
• El Señor es mi pastor, nada me puede faltar. Él me hace descansar en verdes praderas, me conduce a las aguas tranquilas y repara mis fuerzas.
• Me guía por el recto sendero, por amor de su Nombre. Aunque cruce por oscuras quebradas, no temeré ningún mal, porque tú estás conmigo: tu vara y tu bastón me infunden confianza.

Si pueden soportar que los traten mal cuando han actuado bien, eso es grande ante Dios. Para esto han sido llamados, pues Cristo también sufrió por ustedes, dejándoles un ejemplo, y deben seguir sus huellas. Él no cometió pecado ni en su boca se encontró engaño. Insultado, no devolvía los insultos, y maltratado, no amenazaba, sino que se encomendaba a Dios que juzga justamente. Él cargó en su cuerpo con nuestros pecados en el madero de la cruz, para que, muertos a nuestros pecados, empezáramos una vida santa. Y sus heridas nos han sanado. Pues eran ovejas descarriadas, pero han vuelto al pastor y guardián de sus almas.

Jesús les dijo a sus discípulos: “Les aseguro que el que no entra por la puerta en el corral de las ovejas, sino por otro lado, es un ladrón y un asaltante. El que entra por la puerta es el pastor de las ovejas. El guardián le abre y las ovejas escuchan su voz. El llama a cada una por su nombre y las hace salir. Cuando las ha sacado a todas, va delante de ellas y las ovejas lo siguen, porque conocen su voz. Nunca seguirán a un extraño, sino que huirán de él, porque no conocen su voz.” Jesús les hizo esta comparación, pero ellos no comprendieron lo que les quería decir. Entonces Jesús prosiguió: “Les aseguro que yo soy la puerta de las ovejas. Todos aquellos que han venido antes de mí son ladrones y asaltantes, pero las ovejas no los han escuchado. Yo soy la puerta. El que entra por mí se salvará; podrá entrar y salir, y encontrará su alimento. El ladrón no viene sino para robar, matar y destruir. Pero yo he venido para que las ovejas tengan Vida, y la tengan en abundancia.”
