First reading (Malachi 1: 14B – 2:2B and 8–10)
A reading from the book of the prophet Malachi.
A great King am I, says the LORD of hosts, and my name will be feared among the nations. And now, O priests, this commandment is for you: If you do not listen, if you do not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name, says the LORD of hosts, I will send a curse upon you and of your blessing, I will make a curse. You have turned aside from the way, and have caused many to falter by your instruction; you have made void the covenant of Levi, says the LORD of hosts. I, therefore, have made you contemptible and base before all the people, since you do not keep my ways, but show partiality in your decisions. Have we not all the one father? Has not the one God created us? Why then do we break faith with one another, violating the covenant of our fathers?
Second reading (1 Thessalonians 2: 7B–9 and 13)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians.
Brothers and sisters: We were gentle among you, as a nursing mother cares for her children. With such affection for you, we were determined to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our very selves as well, so dearly beloved had you become to us. You recall, brothers and sisters, our toil and drudgery. Working night and day in order not to burden any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. And for this reason we too give thanks to God unceasingly, that, in receiving the word of God from hearing us, you received not a human word but, as it truly is, the word of God, which is now at work in you who believe.
Gospel (Matthew 23: 1–12)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees have taken their seat on the chair of Moses. Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens hard to carry and lay them on people's shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them. All their works are performed to be seen. They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels. They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues, greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation 'Rabbi.' As for you, do not be called 'Rabbi.' You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers. Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven. Do not be called 'Master'; you have but one master, the Christ. The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, but whoever humbles himself will be exalted."

Cursed be the cheater who, after promising me a bull from his herd, sacrifices a stunted animal. For I am a great King and my Name is respected through all the nations, says the Lord of hosts. If you do not concern yourself to glorify my Name, says the Lord of hosts, I will send the curse on you and curse even your blessings. But you, states the Lord of hosts, have strayed from my way, and moreover caused many to stumble because of your teaching. You have broken my covenant with Levi. Therefore I let all the people despise you and consider you unworthy, because you do not follow my ways and you show partiality in your judgments. Do we not all have the same father? Has the same God not created all of us? Why, then, does each of us betray his brother, defiling the Covenant of our ancestors?

And so great is our concern that we are ready to give you, as well as the Gospel even our very lives, for you have become very dear to us. Remember our labor and toil; when we preached the Gospel, we worked day and night so as not to be a burden to you. This is why we never cease giving thanks to God for, on receiving our message, you accepted it, not as human teaching, but as the word of God. That is what it really is, and as such, it is at work in you who believe.

They do everything in order to be seen by people; so they wear very wide bands of the Law around their foreheads, and robes with large tassels. They enjoy the first place at feasts and reserved seats in the synagogues and being greeted in the marketplace and being called 'Master' by the people. But you, do not let yourselves be called Master because you have only one Master, and all of you are brothers and sisters. Neither should you call anyone on earth Father because you have only one Father, he who is in heaven. Nor should you be called leader, because Christ is the only leader for you. Let the greatest among you be the servant of all. For whoever makes himself great will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself shall be made great."

Porque yo soy un gran Rey, dice el Señor de los ejércitos, y mi Nombre es temible entre las naciones. Si no escuchan y no se deciden a dar gloria a mi Nombre, dice el Señor de los ejércitos, yo enviaré sobre ustedes la maldición y maldeciré sus bendiciones; ya las he maldecido, porque ustedes no se deciden a hacer eso. Pero ustedes se han desviado del camino, han hecho tropezar a muchos con su doctrina, han pervertido la alianza con Leví, dice el Señor de los ejércitos. Por eso yo los he hecho despreciables y viles para todo el pueblo, porque ustedes no siguen mis caminos y hacen acepción de personas al aplicar la Ley. ¿No tenemos todos un solo Padre? ¿No nos ha creado un solo Dios? ¿Por qué nos traicionamos unos a otros, profanando así la alianza de nuestros padres?

Segunda lectura (1 Tesalonicenses 2: 7B–9 y 13)
Una lectura de la primera carta de san Pablo a los tesalonicenses.
Al contrario, fuimos tan condescendientes con ustedes, como una madre que alimenta y cuida a sus hijos. Sentíamos por ustedes tanto afecto, que deseábamos entregarles, no solamente la Buena Noticia de Dios, sino también nuestra propia vida: tan queridos llegaron a sernos. Recuerden, hermanos, nuestro trabajo y nuestra fatiga cuando les predicamos la Buena Noticia de Dios, trabajáramos día y noche para no serles una carga. Nosotros, por nuestra parte, no cesamos de dar gracias a Dios, porque cuando recibieron la Palabra que les predicamos, ustedes la aceptaron no como palabra humana, sino como lo que es realmente, como Palabra de Dios, que actúa en ustedes, los que creen.

Entonces Jesús habló tanto para el pueblo como para sus discípulos: “Los maestros de la Ley y los fariseos han ocupado el puesto que dejó Moisés. Hagan y cumplan todo lo que ellos dicen, pero no los imiten, porque ellos enseñan y no practican. Preparan pesadas cargas, muy difíciles de llevar, y las echan sobre las espaldas de la gente, pero ellos ni siquiera levantan un dedo para moverlas. Todo lo hacen para ser vistos por los hombres. Miren esas largas citas de la Ley que llevan en la frente y los largos flecos de su manto. Les gusta ocupar los primeros lugares en los banquetes y los asientos reservados en las sinagogas. Les agrada que los saluden en las plazas y que la gente los llame Maestro. Lo que es ustedes, no se dejen llamar Maestro, porque no tienen más que un Maestro, y todos ustedes son hermanos. Kung hindi ninyo ito papakinggan at isasapuso bilang pagpaparangal sa aking pangalan, susumpain ko kayo at ang mga pagpapalang tinatanggap ninyo bilang mga pari. Sa katunayan, sinumpa ko na ang mga iyon, sapagkat hindi ninyo isinasapuso ang aking utos. “Subalit lumihis kayo sa daang matuwid at marami ang nabulid sa kasamaan dahil sa inyong katuruan. Sinira ninyo ang aking kasunduan kay Levi,” sabi ng Panginoon na Makapangyarihan sa lahat. “Kaya, hahayaan kong kamuhian at hamakin kayo ng mga tao sapagkat hindi ninyo sinusunod ang aking kalooban at hindi pantay-pantay ang inyong pakikitungo sa mga tao kapag sila'y tinuturuan ninyo.” Hindi ba iisa ang ating Ama? Ikalawang pagbabasa (1 Tesalonika 2: 7B–9 at 13)
Ang pagbabasa sa unang sulat ni San Pablo sa mga taga-Tesalonika.
Sa halip ay naging magiliw kami sa inyo, tulad ng inang mapagkalinga sa kanyang mga anak. Dahil sa laki ng aming pagmamahal sa inyo, hindi lamang kami handang ibahagi sa inyo ang Magandang Balita, kundi maging ang aming buhay. Mga kapatid, tiyak na natatandaan pa ninyo kung paano kami nagtrabaho at nagsikap araw-gabi para hindi kami makabigat kaninuman habang ipinapahayag namin sa inyo ang Magandang Balitang mula sa Diyos. Kaya nga, palagi kaming nagpapasalamat sa Diyos, sapagkat nang ipangaral namin sa inyo ang kanyang salita, hindi ninyo ito tinanggap bilang salita ng tao, kundi bilang tunay na salita ng Diyos, at ang bisa nito'y nakikita sa buhay ninyo na mga sumasampalataya.

Sebab Aku ini Raja yang besar, firman TUHAN semesta alam, dan nama-Ku ditakuti di antara bangsa-bangsa. Jika kamu tidak mendengarkan, dan jika kamu tidak memberi perhatian untuk menghormati nama-Ku, firman TUHAN semesta alam, maka Aku akan mengirimkan kutuk ke antaramu dan akan membuat berkat-berkatmu menjadi kutuk, dan Aku telah membuatnya menjadi kutuk, sebab kamu ini tidak memperhatikan. Tetapi kamu ini menyimpang dari jalan; kamu membuat banyak orang tergelincir dengan pengajaranmu; kamu merusakkan perjanjian dengan Lewi, firman TUHAN semesta alam. Maka Aku pun akan membuat kamu hina dan rendah bagi seluruh umat ini, oleh karena kamu tidak mengikuti jalan yang Kutunjukkan, tetapi memandang bulu dalam pengajaranmu. Bukankah kita sekalian mempunyai satu bapa? Bukankah satu Allah menciptakan kita? Lalu mengapa kita berkhianat satu sama lain dan dengan demikian menajiskan perjanjian nenek moyang kita?

Sama seperti seorang ibu mengasuh dan merawati anaknya. Demikianlah kami, dalam kasih sayang yang besar akan kamu, bukan saja rela membagi Injil Allah dengan kamu, tetapi juga hidup kami sendiri dengan kamu, karena kamu telah kami kasihi. Sebab kamu masih ingat, saudara-saudara, akan usaha dan jerih lelah kami. Sementara kami bekerja siang malam, supaya jangan menjadi beban bagi siapa pun juga di antara kamu, kami memberitakan Injil Allah kepada kamu. Dan karena itulah kami tidak putus-putusnya mengucap syukur juga kepada Allah, sebab kamu telah menerima firman Allah yang kami beritakan itu, bukan sebagai perkataan manusia, tetapi — dan memang sungguh-sungguh demikian — sebagai firman Allah, yang bekerja juga di dalam kamu yang percaya.

Tetapi kamu, janganlah kamu disebut Rabi; karena hanya satu Rabimu dan kamu semua adalah saudara. Dan janganlah kamu menyebut siapa pun bapa di bumi ini, karena hanya satu Bapamu, yaitu Dia yang di surga. Janganlah pula kamu disebut pemimpin, karena hanya satu Pemimpinmu, yaitu Mesias. 「神へのいけにえとして、自分の群れの中から上等の雄羊をささげると約束しながら、病気の雄羊を神にささげる者はのろわれよ。わたしは大いなる王だから。」全能の主は語ります。「わたしの名は異邦人の間で、大いに尊ばれるようになるからだ。」「あなたがたが生き方を変えず、わたしの名をあがめないなら、恐ろしい罰を下す。わたしが与えたいと思っている祝福を与えず、のろいを与える。もうすでにのろっている。わたしにとって何よりも大切なことを、あなたがたが真剣に受け止めなかったからだ。だがあなたがたは違う。神の道から離れてしまった。その「導き」によって、多くの人が罪を犯すようになった。あなたがたはレビとの契約をゆがめ、似て非なる醜悪なものにしてしまった。」全能の主は語ります。「それゆえ、わたしはあなたがたを、すべての人の軽蔑の的にする。わたしに従わず、お気に入りの者たちが律法を破るままにし、叱責することもしなかったからだ。」私たちはアブラハムという共通の先祖を持ち、同じ神によって創造された者です。それなのに先祖の結んだ契約を破り、互いに不信実なことをしています。
第二読み物（テサロニケ人第一第2章：第7詩–第9詩と第13詩）
この読み物はテサロニケ人第一への手紙です。
それどころか、子どもを養い、世話をする母親のように、やさしくふるまってきました。心からあなたがたを愛していた私たちは、ただ神の教えを伝えるだけでなく、いのちさえ喜んで与えたいと思うほどでした。それほどまでに愛したのです。愛する皆さん。私たちが、生活費のために、どれほど苦労して働いたか覚えているでしょう。そちらにいた時も、夜昼休みなく、汗水流して働きました。それは、神の福音を伝えるにあたって、だれにも経済的な負担をかけたくないと思ったからでした。私たちは、神に感謝せずにはいられません。私たちが伝道した時、あなたがたはそのことばを人間の口から出たものと見ず、神のことばとして聞いてくれたからです。事実、この神のことばは、信じる者の生活を一変させるものです。
