18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Date: July 31, 2011

First Reading (Isaiah 55: 1–3)
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
Come here, all you who are thirsty, come to the water! All you who have no money, come! Yes, without money and at no cost, buy and drink wine and milk. Why spend money on what is not food and labor for what does not satisfy? Listen to me, and you will eat well; you will enjoy the richest of fare. Incline your ear and come to me; listen, that your soul may live. I will make with you and everlasting covenant, I will fulfill in you my promises to David.

Second Reading (Romans 8: 35 and 37–39)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.
Brothers and sisters: Who shall separate is from the love of Christ? Will it be trials, or anguish, persecution or hunger, lack of clothing, or dangers or sword? No, in all of this we are more than conquerors, thanks to him who has loved us. I am certain that neither death nor life, neither angels nor spiritual powers, neither the present nor the future, nor cosmic powers, were they from heaven or from the deep world below, nor any creature whatsoever will separate us from the love of God, which we have in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Gospel (Matthew 14: 13–21)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
On hearing that John the Baptist had been beheaded, Jesus set out surreptitiously by boat for a secluded place. But the people heard of it, and they followed him on foot from their towns. When Jesus went ashore, he saw the crowd gathered there and he had compassion on them. And he healed their sick. Late in the afternoon, his disciples came to him and stated, "We are in a lonely place and it is now late. You should send these people away, so they can go to the villages and buy something for themselves to eat." But Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away, you give them something to eat." They answered, "We have nothing here but five loaves and two fishes." Jesus stated to them, "Bring them here to me." Then he made everyone sit down on the grass. He took the five loaves and the two fishes, raised his eyes to heaven, pronounced the blessing, broke the loaves and handed them to the disciples to distribute to the people. And they all ate, and everyone had enough; then the disciples gathered up the leftovers, filling twelve baskets. About five thousand men had eaten there besides women and children.

  1. Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 145) (Verses 8-9 and 15-18)
The response is: The hand of the Lord feeds us; He answers all our needs.

Compassionate and gracious is the Lord, slow to anger and abounding in love. The Lord is good to everyone; his mercy embraces all creation.

All creatures look to you to be fed in due season; with open hand you satisfy the living according to their needs.

Righteous is the Lord in all his ways, his mercy shows in all his deeds. He is near those who call on him, who call trustfully upon his name.

  9. Greetings Sean. I hear that your YouTube channel is populated by more than 600 viewers. Is this true?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes, Ufretin. This is true. Apparently, the battle arena video with Pasadena and N-Gin has 115 views and 111 views, respectively. Thosee videos are currently popular. In my channel I have a total of 12 videos, but in my list of videos, I have actually 14 videos. Two of the videos are private.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Really? What are those private videos?

    ReplyDelete
  12. One of the private videos is me teaching Spanish about the Cláusula Temporal. Another of the private videos is me playing Sonic Heroes playing as Team Sonic in the first stage: Seaside Hill.

  13. Wow, still interested in the Sonic World. Sean must have became a Sonic fan now. Do you have any favorite characters?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Not yet. I am not yet a Sonic fan because because I have not gotten to know all of the characters, but only the major appearing characters.

  15. Sean, how is SonicSong182 doing in her projects?

    ReplyDelete
  16. She is apparently busy working on multiple projects at the moment; she has not completed one of those projects yet, but with sufficient patience, when she does post the completed video, I will therefore notify you that it is ready for viewing. She apologizes for the lack of videos, and she declared that she will probably complete it by this week, or the next week, or the next consecutive week where I return to school on August 11. Please give her your patience, and then she will understand that her audience is awaiting for the next episode to come.

  17. Man, I am just excited to see the next episode and more interesting videos from SonicSong182!

  18. I completely concur with Bohb here. I just cannot wait for the next episode to come up.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Wait. What projects is SS182 working on? It cannot be that long.

    ReplyDelete
  20. To Fiur: Actually, it is long. SS182 Kn is working on three projects simultaneously. One of her projects are the "Ask the Sonic Heroes" episode 9 which will feature the next set of questions answered by Team Rose. The improvised interview will probably be 15 minutes long in duration. The other project is "Silver's Never-ending Story" which is a movie, so that is the reason why it is taking very long. The third project I believe is another Sonic Chefs episode, featuring more fantastic recipes that you can create for your whole family. These three projects are not done yet. Therefore, with sufficient patience, it will appear in the future, hopefully before I return to school on August 11.

  25. This is the Opening Prayer for the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Let us pray. God our Father, gifts without measure flow from your goodness to bring us your peace. Our life is your gift. Guide our life's journey, for only your love makes us whole. Keep us strong in your love. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Merciful Lord, make holy these gifts, and let our spiritual sacrifice make us an everlasting gift to you. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  27. Father all-powerful and ever-living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks. In you we live and move and have our being. Each day you show us a Father's live; your Holy Spirit, dwelling within us, gives us on earth the hope of unending joy. Your gift of the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead, is the foretaste and promise of the paschal feast of heaven. With thankful praise, in company with the angels, we glorify the wonders of your power. (After this, you sing the Sanctus.)
