30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Date: October 26, 2014

First Reading (Exodus 22: 20–26)
A reading from the book of Exodus.
You shall not wrong or oppress a stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. You shall not harm the widow or the orphan. If you do harm them and they cry out to me, I will hear them and my anger will blaze and I will kill you with the sword, and your own wives will be widows and your own children orphans. If you lend money to any of my people who are poor, do not act like a moneylender and do not charge him interest. If ever you take a person's cloak as a pledge, you must give it back to him by sunset, for it is all the cover he has for his body. In what else will he sleep? And when he cries to me I will hear him, for I am full of pity.

Second Reading (1 Thessalonians 1: 5c–10)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians.
You also know how we dealt with you for your sake. In return, you became followers of us an of the Lord when, on receiving the word, you experienced the joy of the Holy Spirit in the midst of great opposition. And you became a model for the faithful of Macedonia and Achaia, since from you the word of the Lord spread to Macedonia and Achaia, and still farther. The faith you have in God has become news in so many places that we need say no more about it. Others tell of how you responded to us and turn from idols to the Lord. For you serve the living and true God, and you wait for his Son from heaven whom he raised from the dead, Jesus, who frees us from impending trial.

Gospel (Matthew 22: 34–40)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
When the Pharisees heard how Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they came together. One of them, a teacher of the Law, tried to test him with this question, "Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the Law?" Jesus answered, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and the most important of the commandments. But after this there is another one very similar to it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole Law and the Prophets are founded on these two commandments."

  1. Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 18) (Verses 2–4, 47, 51)
The response is: I love you Lord, my strength.

I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer and my God.

He is the rock in whom I take refuge. He is my shield, my powerful savior, my stronghold. I call on the Lord, who is worthy of praise: he saves me from my enemies.

The Lord lives! Praised be my rock! "He has given victories to his king; he has shown his love to his anointed ones, to David, and to his descendants forever."

    • Dijo: Yo te amo, Señor, mi fuerza, mi Roca, mi fortaleza y mi libertador, mi Dios.

  6. This is the Kyrie for the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
    — Priest: Lord Jesus, you still tell us now: Love God with all your heart and soul. We are afraid of giving ourselves, there is not enough joy and warmth in our love. Lord, have mercy.
    Congregation: Lord, have mercy.
    — Priest: Jesus Christ, you still ask of us now: Love the Lord with all your mind Our love is not strong enough, your plans for us and the world seem impossible. Christ, have mercy.
    Congregation: Christ, have mercy.
    — Priest: Lord Jesus, you still invite us today to love our neighbor as ourselves. Too often we do not see that we cannot love you without loving people with all their faults. Lord, have mercy.
    Congregation: Lord, have mercy.
    — Have mercy on us Lord, and forgive us our fake love, our fear of committing ourselves. Give us a long without boundaries and lead us all to everlasting life. Amen.

  9. Priest: Let us pray together to our merciful God who does not stop showing us his forgiving kindness. Let us pray that we may grow in the love of our living and true God, and in the love of people, for he entrust them to our care. Let us say: Lord, make our love grow.
    — That the Lord may make all believers progress in the love of God, so that we come to love him with our whole heart, with our whole soul, with our whole mind. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, make our love grow.
    — That the Lord may make alive and active the love of all people for their neighbors, that we may come to love them as ourselves. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, make our love grow.
    — That the Lord may open our hearts to windows and orphans, to the homeless, to the jobless, the sick and the handicapped. Let us pray to the Lord: Lord, make our love grow.
    — That the Lord may keep alive our love even for those who are indebted to us or to whom we are indebted to. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, make our love grow.
    — That the Lord may activate people's love for those all over the world, who cry out in pain or in despair. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, make our love grow.
    — That the Lord may inspire the love in this and all Christian communities to care even for the least lovable. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, make our love grow.
    — Lord, in your Holy name, obtain for us from your Heavenly Father, his providence of the Saint Peter Canisius International Catholic Parish. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, make our love grow.
Priest: We pray for those intentions offered for the Mass and for our personal intentions… And so we pray. Lord, make our love grow.
Lord, keep nourishing your love to us and give us to one another as you have given yourself to us in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

  11. It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God. For you so loved the world that in your mercy you sent us the Redeemer, to live like us in all things but sin, so that you might love in us what you loved in your Son, by whose obedience we have been restored to those gifts of yours that, by sinning, we had lost in disobedience. And so, Lord, with all the angels and saints, we too give you thanks, as in exultation we acclaim…

In this Eucharist we have experienced God's love for us. Now he has warned us with his love; may we let its glow shine on those around us with the blessing of almighty God, † the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Mass has ended, and you are sent. Therefore, Go and love one another as the Lord has loved us. Thanks be to God.
