First Reading (Jeremiah 31: 31–34)
A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah.
The time is coming — it is the Lord who speaks — when I will forge a new covenant with the people of Israel and the people of Judah. It will not be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and led them out of Egypt. For they broke my covenant although I was their Lord. This is the covenant I shall make with Israel after that time: I will put may Law within them and write it on their hearts; I will be their God and they will be my people. And they will not have to teach each other, neighbor or brother, stating: 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the greatest to the lowliest, for I will forgive their wrongdoing and no longer remember their sin.
Second Reading (Hebrews 5: 7–9)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Hebrews.
Christ, in the days of his mortal life, offered his sacrifice with tears and cries. He prayed to him who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his humble submission. Although he was Son, he learned through suffering what obedience was, and once made perfect, he become the source of eternal salvation for those who obey him.
Gospel (John 12: 20–33)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.
There were some Greeks who had come up to Jerusalem to worship during the feast. They approached Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus." Philip went to Andrew and the two of them told Jesus. Then Jesus stated, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. Those who love their life destroy it, and those who despise their life in this world keep it for everlasting life. Whoever wants to serve me, let him follow me and wherever I am, there shall my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. Now my soul is in distress. Shall I say: 'Father, save me from this hour'? But, I have come to this hour to face all this. Father, glorify your Name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it and I will glorify it again." People standing there heard something and stated it was thunder; but others stated, "An angel was speaking to him." Then Jesus declared, "This voice did not come for my sake but for yours; now sentence is being passed on this world; now the ruler of this world is to be cast down. And when I am lifted up from the earth, I shall draw all to myself." With these words, Jesus referred to the kind of death he was to die.

Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 51) (Verses 3–4 and 12–15)

Have mercy on me, O God, in your love. In you great compassion blot out my sin. Wash me thoroughly of my guilt; cleanse me of evil.
Create in me, O God, a pure heart; give me a new and steadfast spirit. Do not cast me out of your presence nor take your holy spirit from me.
Give me again the joy of your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit. Then I will show wrongdoers your ways and sinners will return to you.
The verses for the responsorial psalm is actually 1–2 and 10–13.

DeleteThis is the last Sunday of Lent. For next week, palm leaves will be provided to celebrate Palm Sunday. Jesus will enter Jerusalem soon.

El Señor afirma: “Vendrá un día en que haré un nuevo pacto con Israel y con Judá. Este pacto no será como el que hice con sus antepasados, cuando los tomé de la mano para sacarlos de Egipto; porque ellos quebrantaron mi pacto, a pesar de que yo era su dueño. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo. Este será el pacto que haré con Israel en aquel tiempo: Pondré mi ley en su corazón y la escribiré en su mente. Yo seré su Dios y ellos serán mi pueblo. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo. Ya no será necesario que unos a otros, amigos y parientes, tengan que instruirse para que me conozcan, porque todos me conocerán, desde el más grande hasta el más pequeño. Yo les perdonaré su maldad y no me acordaré más de sus pecados. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.”

Segunda Lectura (Hebreos 5: 7–9)

Cristo, mientras vivía en este mundo, con voz fuerte y muchas lágrimas, oró y suplicó a Dios, que tenía poder para librarle de la muerte; y por su obediencia, Dios le escuchó. Así que Cristo, a pesar de ser Hijo, por lo que sufrió aprendió a obedecer; y al perfeccionarse de esa manera, llegó a ser fuente de salvación eterna para todos los que le obedecen.
Evangelio (Juan 12: 20–33)

Entre la gente que había ido a Jerusalén a adorar a Dios en la fiesta, había algunos griegos. Estos se acercaron a Felipe, que era de Betsaida, un pueblo de Galilea, y le rogaron: “Señor, queremos ver a Jesús.” Felipe fue y se lo dijo a Andrés, y los dos fueron a contárselo a Jesús. Jesús les dijo: “Ha llegado la hora en que el Hijo del hombre va a ser glorificado. Les aseguro que si un grano de trigo no cae en la tierra y muere, seguirá siendo un solo grano; pero si muere, dará fruto abundante. El que ama su vida, la perderá; pero el que desprecia su vida en este mundo, la conservará para la vida eterna. Si alguno quiere servirme, que me siga; y donde yo esté, allí estará también mi servidor. Si alguno me sirve, mi Padre le honrará. “Siento en este momento una angustia terrible, pero ¿qué voy a decir? ¿Diré: ‘Padre, líbrame de esta angustia’? ¡Pero si precisamente para esto he venido! ¡Padre, glorifica tu nombre!” Entonces vino una voz del cielo, que decía: “¡Ya lo he glorificado, y lo glorificaré otra vez!” Al oír esto, la gente que estaba allí decía que había sido un trueno, aunque algunos afirmaban: “Un ángel le ha hablado.” Jesús les dijo: “No ha sido por mí por quien se ha oído esta voz, sino por ustedes. Ahora va a ser juzgado el mundo. ¡Ahora va a ser expulsado el que manda en este mundo! Pero cuando yo sea levantado de la tierra, atraeré a todos a mí.” Con esto daba a entender de qué forma había de morir.
