First Reading (Job 38: 1 and 8–11)

Then the Lord answered Job out of the storm: Who shut the sea behind closed doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling clothes; when I set its limits with doors and bars in place, when I stated, "You will not go beyond those bounds; here is where your proud waves must halt?"
Second Reading (2 Corinthians 5: 14–17)
A reading from the second letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.
Brothers and sisters: Indeed the love of Christ holds us and we realize that if he died for all, all have died. He died for all so that those who live may live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and rose again for them. So from now on, we do not regard anyone from a human point of view; and even if we once knew Christ personally, we should now regard him in another way. For all that same reason, the one who is in Christ is a new creature. For him the old things have passed away; a new world has come.
Gospel (Mark 4: 35–41)

On the same day when evening came, Jesus stated to his disciples, "Let us go across to the other side." So they left the crowd and took him away in the boat he had been sitting in, and other boats set out with him. Then a storm gather and it began to blow a gale. The furious waves spilled over the boat so that it was soon began to fill with water. Jesus was asleep in the stern, reclining on a soft cushion. The disciples woke Jesus up and exclaimed, "Master, do you not care if we sink?" As Jesus awoke, he rebuke the wind and ordered the sea, "Quiet now! Be still!" After those words, the furious wind dropped down and the furious waves vanished. All was calm, silent, and steady. Jesus stated to his disciples, "Why are you so frightened? Do you still have no faith?" The disciples were very terrified and astonished at the same time. They discussed with one another, "Who can this be? Even the wind and sea obey him!"

Those who went to the sea in ships, merchants on the mighty waters saw the marvels of the Lord, his wonder deeds in the deep.
For he spoke and stirred up a storm whipping up the waves of the sea. Flung upward and plunged to the depths, they lost courage in the ordeal.
Then they cried to the Lord in anguish, and he rescued them from their distress. He stilled the storm to a gentle breeze and hushed the billows to silent waves.
How glad they were! He brought them safe and sound to the port where they were bound. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his love and wondrous deeds for humans.

Entonces el Señor habló a Job de en medio de la tempestad. Cuando el mar brotó del seno de la tierra, ¿quién le puso compuertas para contenerlo? Yo le di una nube por vestido y la niebla por pañales. Yo le puse un límite al mar y cerré con llave sus compuertas. Y le dije: “Llegarás hasta aquí, y de aquí no pasarás; aquí se romperán tus olas arrogantes.”
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 107) (Versículos 23–26 y 28–31)
La respuesta es: Den gracias al Señor, su amor es eterno.
• Se hicieron a la mar los comerciantes; surcaron las aguas con sus barcos, y allí, en alta mar, vieron la creación maravillosa del Señor.
• A la voz del Señor se desató una tormenta que levantaba grandes olas; eran lanzados hasta el cielo y hundidos hasta el fondo del mar; ¡perdieron el valor ante el peligro!
• Pero en su angustia clamaron al Señor y él los sacó de la aflicción: convirtió en brisa la tempestad y las olas se calmaron.
• Al ver tranquilas las olas, se alegraron, y Dios los llevó hasta el puerto deseado. Den gracias al Señor por su amor, ¡por lo que hace en favor de los hombres!

El amor de Cristo gobierna nuestras vidas desde que sabemos que uno murió por todos y que, por consiguiente, todos han muerto. Y Cristo murió por todos, para que los que viven no vivan ya para sí sino para él, que murió y resucitó por ellos. Así que nosotros ya no pensamos de nadie según los criterios de este mundo; y aunque antes pensábamos de Cristo según esos criterios, ahora ya no lo pensamos. Por lo tanto, el que está unido a Cristo es una nueva persona. Las cosas viejas pasaron; han sido hechas nuevas.

Al anochecer de aquel mismo día, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Pasemos a la otra orilla del lago.” Entonces despidieron a la gente y llevaron a Jesús en la misma barca en que se encontraba. Otras barcas le acompañaban. De pronto se desató una tormenta; y el viento era tan fuerte, que las olas, cayendo sobre la barca, comenzaron a llenarla de agua. Pero Jesús se había dormido en la parte de popa, apoyado sobre una almohada. Le despertaron y le dijeron: “¡Maestro!, ¿no te importa que nos estemos hundiendo?” Jesús se levantó, dio una orden al viento y le dijo al mar: “¡Silencio! ¡Cállate!” El viento se detuvo y todo quedó completamente en calma. Después dijo Jesús a sus discípulos: “¿Por qué tanto miedo? ¿Todavía no tienen fe?” Y ellos, muy asustados, se preguntaban unos a otros: “¿Quién es este, que hasta el viento y el mar le obedecen?”

They cried to the LORD in their distress; from their straits he rescued them, he hushed the storm to a gentle breeze, and the billows of the sea were stilled.
They rejoiced that they were calmed, and he brought them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the LORD for his kindness and his wondrous deeds to the children of men.

Si Jesus ay natutulog noon sa may hulihan ng bangka, nakahilig sa isang unan. Ginising siya ng mga alagad at sinabi, “Guro, balewala ba sa inyo kung mapahamak kami?” Bumangon si Jesus at sinaway ang hangin, “Tigil!” at sinabi sa lawa, “Tumahimik ka!” Tumigil nga ang hangin at tumahimik ang lawa. Pagkatapos, sinabi niya sa mga alagad, “Bakit kayo natatakot? Hanggang ngayon ba'y wala pa rin kayong pananampalataya?” Natakot sila nang labis at namangha. Sabi nila sa isa't isa, “Anong klaseng tao ito? Pati hangin at lawa ay sumusunod sa kanya!”
