To meditate on Wisdom is understanding fully grown; whoever is on the watch for her will be free of anxiety. She goes in search of those who are worthy of her, graciously meets them on the way and is present in their every thought.
Second Reading (1 Thessalonians 4: 13–18)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians.
Brothers and sisters, we want you not to be mistaken about those who are already asleep, lest you grieve as do those who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose; it will be the same for those who have died in Jesus. God will bring them together with Jesus and for his sake. By the same word of the Lord we assert this: those of us who are to be alive at the Lord's coming will not go ahead of those who are already asleep. When the command by the archangel's voice is given, the Lord himself will come down from heaven, while the divine trumpet call is sounding. Then those who have died in the Lord will rise first; as for us who are still alive, we will be brought along with them in the clouds to meet the Lord is the celestial world. And we will be with the Lord forever. So, then comfort one another with these words.

Jesus stated this to his disciples: "This story throws light on what will happen in the kingdom of heaven. Ten bridesmaids went out with their lamps to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were careless while the others were sensible. The careless bridesmaids took their lamps as they were and did not bring extra oil. But those who were sensible, brought with their lamps flasks of oil. As the bridegroom delayed, they all grew drowsy and fell asleep. But at midnight, a cry rang out: 'The bridegroom is here, come out and meet him!' All the maidens woke up at once and trimmed their lamps. Then the careless ones stated to the sensible ones: 'Give us some oil, for our lamps are going out.' The sensible ones answered: 'There may not be enough for both you and us. You had better go to those who sell and buy for yourselves.' They were out buying oil when the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him to the wedding feast, and the doors were shut. Later the rest of the bridesmaids arrived and called out: 'Lord, Lord, open to us.' But he answered: 'Truly, I do not know you.' So, stay awake, for you do not know the day nor the hour."

Resplendent and unfading is wisdom, and she is readily perceived by those who love her, and found by those who seek her. She hastens to make herself known in anticipation of their desire. Whoever watches for her at dawn shall not be disappointed, for he shall find her sitting by his gate. For taking thought of wisdom is the perfection of prudence, and whoever for her sake keeps vigil shall quickly be free from care; because she makes her own rounds, seeking those worthy of her, and graciously appears to them in the ways, and meets them with all solicitude.
Second reading (1 Thessalonians 4: 13–18)

We do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God, through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen asleep. Indeed, we tell you this, on the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself, with a word of command, with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God, will come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore, console one another with these words.

Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight, there was a cry, 'Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the wise ones replied, 'No, for there may not be enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.' While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom came and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. Then the door was locked. Afterwards the other virgins came and said, 'Lord, Lord, open the door for us!' But he said in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.' Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour."

La Sabiduría es luminosa y nunca pierde su brillo: se deja contemplar fácilmente por los que la aman y encontrar por los que la buscan. Ella se anticipa a darse a conocer a los que la desean. El que madruga para buscarla no se fatigará, porque la encontrará sentada a su puerta. Meditar en ella es la perfección de la prudencia, y el que se desvela por su causa pronto quedará libre de inquietudes. La Sabiduría busca por todas partes a los que son dignos de ella, se les aparece con benevolencia en los caminos y les sale al encuentro en todos sus pensamientos.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 63) (Versículos 2–8)
La respuesta es: Mi alma tiene sed de ti, oh Señor, Dios mío.
• Oh Dios, tú eres mi Dios, yo te busco ardientemente; mi alma tiene sed de ti, por ti suspira mi carne como tierra sedienta, reseca y sin agua.

No queremos, hermanos, que vivan en la ignorancia acerca de los que ya han muerto, para que no estén tristes como los otros, que no tienen esperanza. Porque nosotros creemos que Jesús murió y resucitó: de la misma manera, Dios llevará con Jesús a los que murieron con él. Queremos decirles algo, fundados en la Palabra del Señor: los que vivamos, los que quedemos cuando venga el Señor, no precederemos a los que hayan muerto. Porque a la señal dada por la voz del Arcángel y al toque de la trompeta de Dios, el mismo Señor descenderá del cielo. Entonces, primero resucitarán los que murieron en Cristo. Después nosotros, los que aún vivamos, los que quedemos, serenos llevados con ellos al cielo, sobre las nubes, al encuentro de Cristo, y así permaneceremos con el Señor para siempre. Evangelio (Mateo 25: 1–13)

Cinco de ellas eran descuidadas y las otras cinco precavidas. Las descuidadas tomaron sus lámparas como estaban, sin llevar más aceite consigo. Las precavidas, en cambio, junto con las lámparas, llevaron sus botellas de aceite. Como el novio se demoraba en llegar, se adormecieron todas y al fin se quedaron dormidas. A medianoche se oyó un grito: “¡Viene el novio, salgan a su encuentro!” Todas las jóvenes se despertaron y prepararon sus lámparas. Entonces las descuidadas dijeron a las precavidas: “Dennos un poco de su aceite, porque nuestras lámparas se están apagando.” Las precavidas dijeron: “No habría bastante para ustedes y para nosotras; vayan mejor a donde lo venden, y compren para ustedes.” Mientras fueron a comprar el aceite llegó el novio; las que estaban listas entraron con él a la fiesta de las bodas, y se cerró la puerta. Más tarde llegaron las otras jóvenes y llamaron: “Señor, Señor, ábrenos.” Pero él respondió: “En verdad se lo digo: no las conozco.” Por tanto, estén despiertos, porque no saben el día ni la hora.

Ang maagang bumabangon upang siya'y hanapin, hindi mahihirapan na siya'y masumpungan; makikita niyang ang Karunungan ay nag-aabang sa may pintuan. Isipin mo lamang siya'y magkakaroon ka ng ganap na pagkaunawa; hanapin mo siya't matatahimik ang iyong kalooban. Kebijaksanaan bersinar dan tak dapat layu, mudah dipandang oleh yang kasih kepadanya, dan ditemukan oleh mereka yang mencarinya. Ia mendahului memperkenalkan diri kepada yang ingin kepadanya. Barangsiapa pagi-pagi bangun demi kebijaksanaan tak perlu bersusah payah, sebab ditemukannya duduk di dekat pintu. Merenungkannya merupakan pengertian sempurna, dan siapa yang berjaga karena kebijaksanaan segera akan bebas dari kesusahan. Sebab ia sendiri berkeliling mencari orang yang patut baginya, dan dengan rela memperlihatkan diri kepada mereka di jalan, pada tiap-tiap pikiran dijumpainya.
Mazmur (Mazmur 63) (Ayat 2–8)
Tanggapan adalah: Jiwaku haus kepada-Mu, ya Tuhan.
• Ya Allah, Engkaulah Allahku, aku mencari Engkau, jiwaku haus kepada-Mu, tubuhku rindu kepada-Mu, seperti tanah yang kering dan tandus, tiada berair.

Ini kami katakan kepadamu dengan firman Tuhan: kita yang hidup, yang masih tinggal sampai kedatangan Tuhan, sekali-kali tidak akan mendahului mereka yang telah meninggal. Sebab pada waktu tanda diberi, yaitu pada waktu penghulu malaikat berseru dan sangkakala Allah berbunyi, maka Tuhan sendiri akan turun dari surga dan mereka yang mati dalam Kristus akan lebih dahulu bangkit; sesudah itu, kita yang hidup, yang masih tinggal, akan diangkat bersama-sama dengan mereka dalam awan menyongsong Tuhan di angkasa. Demikianlah kita akan selama-lamanya bersama-sama dengan Tuhan. Karena itu hiburkanlah seorang akan yang lain dengan perkataan-perkataan ini.

Tetapi karena mempelai itu lama tidak datang-datang juga, mengantuklah mereka semua lalu tertidur. Waktu tengah malam terdengarlah suara orang berseru: Mempelai datang! Songsonglah dia! Gadis-gadis itu pun bangun semuanya lalu membereskan pelita mereka. Gadis-gadis yang bodoh berkata kepada gadis-gadis yang bijaksana: Berikanlah kami sedikit dari minyakmu itu, sebab pelita kami hampir padam. Tetapi jawab gadis-gadis yang bijaksana itu: Tidak, nanti tidak cukup untuk kami dan untuk kamu. Lebih baik kamu pergi kepada penjual minyak dan beli di situ.
