So God stated to me: "They have spoken well. I shall raise up a prophet from their midst, one of their brothers, who will be like you. I will put my words when the prophet speaks on my behalf, I myself will call him to account for it. But any prophet who says in my name anything that I did not command, or speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.""
Second reading (1 Corinthians 7: 32–35)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.
I would like you to be free from anxieties. He who is not married is concerned about the things of the Lord and how to please the Lord. While he who is married is taken up with the things of the world and how to please his wife, and his is divided in his interests. Likewise, the unmarried woman and the virgin are concerned with the service of the Lord, to be holy in body and spirit. The married woman, instead, worries about the things of the world and how to please her husband. I say this for your own good. I do not wish to lay traps for you but to lead you to a beautiful life, entirely united with the Lord.

Jesus and his first disciples entered the town of Capernaum and Jesus began to teach in the synagogue during the sabbath assemblies. The people were astonished at the way he taught, for he spoke as one having authority and not like the teachers of the Law. It transpired that a man with an evil spirit was in their synagogue and he shouted, "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: You are the Holy One of God!" Then Jesus faced him, rebuked him with authority, "Be silent and come out of this man!" The evil spirit shook the man violently and with a loud shriek, it came out of him. All the people were astonished and they wondered, "What is this? With what authority he preaches! He even orders evil spirits and they obey him!" And Jesus' fame spread throughout all the country of Galilee.

Moses spoke to all the people, saying: "A
prophet like me will the LORD, your God, raise up for you from among your own
kin; to him you shall listen. This is exactly what you requested of the LORD,
your God, at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, 'Let us not again
hear the voice of the LORD, our God, nor see this great fire any more, lest we
die.' And the LORD said to me, 'This was well said. I will raise up for them a
prophet like you from among their kin, and will put my words into his mouth; he
shall tell them all that I command him. Whoever will not listen to my words
which he speaks in my name, I myself will make him answer for it. But if a
prophet presumes to speak in my name an oracle that I have not commanded him to

Brothers and sisters: I should like you to
be free of anxieties. An unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord,
how he may please the Lord. But a married man is anxious about the things of
the world, how he may please his wife, and he is divided. An unmarried woman or
a virgin is anxious about the things of the Lord, so that she may be holy in
both body and spirit. A married woman, on the other hand, is anxious about the
things of the world, how she may please her husband. I am telling you this for
your own benefit, not to impose a restraint upon you, but for the sake of
propriety and adherence to the Lord without distraction.

Jesus entered the synagogue and taught. The people were astonished at his
teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. In
their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; he cried out, "What have
you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who
you are—the Holy One of God!" Jesus rebuked him and said, "Quiet!
Come out of him!" The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry
came out of him. All were amazed and asked one another, "What is this? A
new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey
him." His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.

Come, let us sing to the Lord, let us make a joyful sound to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him giving thanks, with music and songs of praise.
Come and worship; let us bow down, kneel before the Lord, our Maker. He is our God, and we are his people; the flock he leads and pastures.
Would that today you heard his voice! Do not be stubborn, as at Meribah, in the desert, on that day at Massah, when your ancestors challenged me, and they put me to the test.

Eso es lo que pidieron al Señor, su Dios, cuando estaban reunidos en el monte Horeb: 'No queremos volver a oír la voz del Señor nuestro Dios, ni volver a ver otra vez ese gran fuego; pues no queremos morir'. El Señor me respondió: 'Está bien lo que han dicho. Yo haré surgir en medio de sus hermanos un profeta como tú. Pondré mis palabras en su boca y él dirá lo que le mande yo. El hombre soltero se preocupa de las cosas del Señor y de cómo agradarle; en cambio, el hombre casado se preocupa de las cosas de esta vida y de cómo agradarle a su esposa, y por eso tiene dividido el corazón. En la misma forma, la mujer que ya no tiene marido y la soltera se preocupa de las cosas del Señor y se pueden dedicar a él en cuerpo y alma. Por el contrario, la mujer casada se preocupa de las cosas de esta vida y de cómo agradarle a su esposo. Les digo todo esto para bien de ustedes. Se lo digo, no para ponerles una trampa, sino para que puedan vivir constantemente y sin distracciones en presencia del Señor, tal como conviene.

En aquel tiempo, se hallaba Jesús a Cafarnaúm y el sábado siguiente fue a la sinagoga y se puso a enseñar. Los oyentes quedaron asombrados de sus palabras, pues enseñaba como quien tiene autoridad y no como los escribas. Había en la sinagoga un hombre poseído por un espíritu inmundo, que se puso a gritar: "¿Qué quieres tú con nosotros, Jesús de Nazaret? ¿Has venido a acabar con nosotros? Ya sé quién eres: el Santo de Dios". Jesús le ordenó: "¡Cállate y sal de él!" El espíritu inmundo, sacudiendo al hombre con violencia y dando un alarido, salió de él. Todos quedaron estupefactos y se preguntaban: "¿Qué es esto? ¿Qué nueva doctrina es ésta? Este hombre tiene autoridad para mandar hasta a los espíritus inmundos y lo obedecen". Y muy pronto se extendió su fama por toda Galilea.

Les he dicho estas cosas para el bien de ustedes, no para ponerles un obstáculo, sino para que ustedes hagan lo que es más conveniente y se entreguen totalmente al Señor.

Llegaron a Cafarnaúm, y Jesús empezó a enseñar en la sinagoga durante las asambleas del día sábado. Su manera de enseñar impresionaba mucho a la gente, porque hablaba como quien tiene autoridad, y no como los maestros de la Ley. Entró en aquella sinagoga un hombre que estaba en poder de un espíritu malo, y se puso a gritar: “¿Qué quieres con nosotros, Jesús de Nazaret? ¿Has venido a destruirnos? Yo sé que tú eres el Santo de Dios.” Jesús le hizo frente con autoridad: “¡Cállate y sal de ese hombre!” El espíritu impuro revolcó al hombre en el suelo y lanzó un grito tremendo y luego salió de él. El asombro de todos fue tan grande que se preguntaban unos a otros: “¿Qué es esto? Una doctrina nueva, y ¡con qué autoridad! Miren cómo da órdenes a los espíritus impuros ¡y le obedecen!” Así fue como la fama de Jesús se extendió por todo el territorio de Galilea.

Tepat seperti yang kamu minta dahulu kepada TUHAN, Allahmu, di gunung Horeb, pada hari perkumpulan, dengan berkata: Tidak mau aku mendengar lagi suara TUHAN, Allahku, dan api yang besar ini tidak mau aku melihatnya lagi, supaya jangan aku mati. Lalu berkatalah TUHAN kepadaku: Apa yang dikatakan mereka itu baik; seorang nabi akan Kubangkitkan bagi mereka dari antara saudara mereka, seperti engkau ini; Aku akan menaruh firman-Ku dalam mulutnya, dan ia akan mengatakan kepada mereka segala yang Kuperintahkan kepadanya. Orang yang beristeri memusatkan perhatiannya pada perkara duniawi, bagaimana ia dapat menyenangkan isterinya, dan dengan demikian perhatiannya terbagi-bagi. Perempuan yang tidak bersuami dan anak-anak gadis memusatkan perhatian mereka pada perkara Tuhan, supaya tubuh dan jiwa mereka kudus. Tetapi perempuan yang bersuami memusatkan perhatiannya pada perkara duniawi, bagaimana ia dapat menyenangkan suaminya. Semuanya ini kukatakan untuk kepentingan kamu sendiri, bukan untuk menghalang-halangi kamu dalam kebebasan kamu, tetapi sebaliknya supaya kamu melakukan apa yang benar dan baik, dan melayani Tuhan tanpa gangguan.

Pada waktu itu di dalam rumah ibadat itu ada seorang yang kerasukan roh jahat. Orang itu berteriak: "Apa urusan-Mu dengan kami, hai Yesus orang Nazaret? Engkau datang hendak membinasakan kami? Aku tahu siapa Engkau: Yang Kudus dari Allah." Tetapi Yesus menghardiknya, kata-Nya: "Diam, keluarlah dari padanya!" Roh jahat itu menggoncang-goncang orang itu, dan sambil menjerit dengan suara nyaring ia keluar dari padanya. Mereka semua takjub, sehingga mereka memperbincangkannya, katanya: "Apa ini? Suatu ajaran baru. Ia berkata-kata dengan kuasa. Roh-roh jahat pun diperintah-Nya dan mereka taat kepada-Nya." Lalu tersebarlah dengan cepat kabar tentang Dia ke segala penjuru di seluruh Galilea.
