First reading (Genesis 15: 5–12 and 17–18)
A reading from the book of Genesis.
The Lord God took Abram outside and said, "Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can. Just so," he added, "shall your descendants be." Abram put his faith in the LORD, who credited it to him as an act of righteousness. He then said to him, "I am the LORD who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as a possession." "O Lord GOD," he asked, "how am I to know that I shall possess it?" He answered him, "Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old she-goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon." Abram brought him all these, split them in two, and placed each half opposite the other; but the birds he did not cut up. Birds of prey swooped down on the carcasses, but Abram stayed with them. As the sun was about to set, a trance fell upon Abram, and a deep, terrifying darkness enveloped him. When the sun had set and it was dark, there appeared a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch, which passed between those pieces. It was on that occasion that the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: "To your descendants, I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the Great River, the Euphrates."
Second reading (Philippians 3:17–4:1)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Philippians.
Join with others in being imitators of me, brothers and sisters, and observe those who thus conduct themselves according to the model you have in us. For many, as I have often told you and now tell you even in tears, conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction. Their God is their stomach; their glory is in their "shame." Their minds are occupied with earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it, we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will change our lowly body to conform with his glorified body by the power that enables him also to bring all things into subjection to himself. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord.
Gospel (Luke 9: 28b–36)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.
Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my chosen Son; listen to him." After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen.

Abram brought all these animals, cut them in two, and laid each half facing its other half, but he did cut the birds in half. The birds of prey came down upon them, but Abram drove them away. As the sun was going down, a deep sleep came over Abram, and a dreadful darkness took hold of him. When the sun had already set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passed between the halves of the victims. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, stating, "To your descendants, I have given this country from the river of Egypt to the Great River, the Euphrates."

Unite in imitating me, brothers and sisters, and look at those who walk in our way of life. For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. I have stated it to you many times, and now I repeat it with tears: they are heading for ruin; their belly is their god and they feel proud of what should be their shame. They only think of earthly things. For us, citizenship is in heaven, from where we await the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ, the Lord. He will transfigure our lowly body, making it like his own body, radiant in Glory, through the power which is his to submit everything to himself. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for you, my glory and crown, be steadfast in the Lord.

The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The Lord is the rampart of my life; I will not be afraid.
Hear my voice when I call, O Lord, have mercy on me and answer. My heart speaks to you, and my glance seeks.
My heart says to you, "I seek your face, O Lord." Do not hide your face from me nor turn away your servant in anger. You are my protector, do not reject me abandon me not, O God my savior!
I hope, I am sure, that I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Trust in the Lord, be strong and courageous — yes, put your hope in the Lord!

Yahvé le dijo: “Yo soy Yahvé, que te sacó de Ur de los Caldeos, para entregarte esta tierra en propiedad.” Abram le preguntó: “Señor, ¿en qué conoceré yo que será mía?” Le contestó: “Tráeme una ternera, una cabra y un carnero, todos ellos de tres años, y también una paloma y un pichón.” Abram trajo todos estos animales, los partió por mitad, y puso una mitad frente a la otra; las aves no las partió. Sigan mi ejemplo, hermanos, y observen atentamente a los que siguen el ejemplo que yo les he dado. Porque ya les advertí frecuentemente y ahora les repito llorando: hay muchos que se portan como enemigos de la cruz de Cristo. Su destino es la perdición, su dios es el vientre, su gloria está en aquello que los cubre de vergüenza, y no aprecian sino las cosas de la tierra. En cambio, nosotros somos ciudadanos del cielo, y esperamos ardientemente que venga de allí como Salvador el Señor Jesucristo. Él transformará nuestro pobre cuerpo mortal, haciéndolo semejante a su cuerpo glorioso, con el poder que tiene para poner todas las cosas bajo su dominio. Por eso, hermanos míos muy queridos, a quienes tanto deseo ver, ustedes que son mi alegría y mi corona, amados míos, perseveren firmemente en el Señor.

Jesús tomó a Pedro, Juan y Santiago, y subió a la montaña para orar. Mientras oraba, su rostro cambió de aspecto y sus vestiduras se volvieron de una blancura deslumbrante. Y dos hombres conversaban con él: eran Moisés y Elías, que aparecían revestidos de gloria y hablaban de la partida de Jesús, que iba a cumplirse en Jerusalén. Pedro y sus compañeros tenían mucho sueño, pero permanecieron despiertos, y vieron la gloria de Jesús y a los dos hombres que estaban con él. Mientras estos se alejaban, Pedro dijo a Jesús: “Maestro, ¡qué bien estamos aquí! Hagamos tres carpas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías.” Él no sabía lo que decía. Mientras hablaba, una nube los cubrió con su sombra y al entrar en ella, los discípulos se llenaron de temor. Desde la nube se oyó entonces una voz que decía: “Este es mi Hijo, el Elegido, escúchenlo.” Y cuando se oyó la voz, Jesús estaba solo. Los discípulos callaron y durante todo ese tiempo no dijeron a nadie lo que habían visto.

第二読み物（ピリピ人への手紙3章：17詩から4章：1詩）
この読み物はピリピ人への手紙です。
愛する皆さん。どうか私の生き方を見ならってください。また、私を手本として生きている人たちに目をとめてください。というのは、今までも、しばしば語ってきたことですし、今また、涙ながらに訴えたいのですが、クリスチャンとして歩みながら、実はキリストの十字架に敵対している者が多くいるからです。彼らの行き着く先は永遠の滅びです。自分の欲望を神とし、ほんとうは恥じるべきことを誇っているからです。彼らの思いは、この地上の生活のことでいっぱいです。しかし、私たちのほんとうのふるさとは天にあるのです。そこには救い主である主イエス・キリストがおられます。私たちは、キリストがそこから迎えに帰って来られるのを、ひたすら待ち望んでいるのです。その時、キリストは、あらゆるものを従わせることのできる超自然的な力で、私たちの死ぬべき体を、ご自身と同じ栄光の体に変えてくださるのです。

さて、イエスのもとにはぞくぞくと人々が詰めかけました。バプテスマ（洗礼）を受けて弟子になった者の数はヨハネよりも多いといううわさが、パリサイ人たちの耳に入りました。イエスはこのことを知ると、――もっとも、実際にバプテスマを授けていたのはイエス自身ではなく、弟子たちでしたが――ユダヤを去り、またガリラヤ地方へ行かれました。その途中で、どうしてもサマリヤを通らなければなりませんでした。サマリヤのスカルという村にさしかかったのは、ちょうど正午ごろでした。そこに、昔ヤコブが息子ヨセフに与えた土地があり、ヤコブの井戸がありました。日がかんかんに照りつける長い道のりを歩いて来られたイエスは疲れて、井戸のそばに腰をおろしました。まもなくサマリヤ人の女が一人、水を汲みに来ました。イエスは、「すみませんが、水を一杯下さい」と声をおかけになりました。そのとき弟子たちは、村に食べ物を買いに行っており、ほかにはだれもいませんでした。女はびっくりして言いました。「まあ、あなたはユダヤ人ではありませんか。サマリヤ人の私に、どうして水をくれなどと頼むのですか。」当時、ユダヤ人はサマリヤ人を見下し、口をきこうとさえしなかったのです。「もし、神があなたにどんなにすばらしい贈り物を用意しておられるか、また、わたしがだれなのかを知っていれば、あなたのほうから、いのちの水を下さいと願ったでしょう。」「そんなこと言っても、あなたは水を汲むおけも綱も持っていないのですよ。この井戸はとても深いのです。そのいのちの水を、いったいどこから汲むのですか。あなたは、私たちの先祖ヤコブ様よりも偉いと言うのですか。ヤコブ様はこの井戸を私たちにくれました。ヤコブ様も、その子孫も家畜もみんな、この井戸の水を喜んで飲んだのです。これより良い水をくれると言うのですか。」イエスは言われました。「この水を飲んでも、すぐにまた、のどが渇きます。
