You, LORD, are our father, our redeemer you are named forever. Why do you let us wander, O LORD, from your ways, and harden our hearts so that we fear you not? Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your heritage. Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, with the mountains quaking before you, while you wrought awesome deeds we could not hope for, such as they had not heard of from of old. No ear has ever heard, no eye ever seen, any God but you doing such deeds for those who wait for him. Would that you might meet us doing right, that we were mindful of you in our ways! Behold, you are angry, and we are sinful; all of us have become like unclean people, all our good deeds are like polluted rags; we have all withered like leaves, and our guilt carries us away like the wind. There is none who calls upon your name, who rouses himself to cling to you; for you have hidden your face from us and have delivered us up to our guilt. Second reading (1 Corinthians 1: 3–9)

Brothers and sisters: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I give thanks to my God always on your account for the grace of God bestowed on you in Christ Jesus, that in him you were enriched in every way, with all discourse and all knowledge, as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you, so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you firm to the end, irreproachable on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus said to his disciples: "Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. It is like a man traveling abroad. He leaves home and places his servants in charge, each with his own work, and orders the gatekeeper to be on the watch. Watch, therefore; you do not know when the Lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: 'Watch!'"

DeleteOn this day, we celebrate the 1st Sunday of Advent. We have the Advent Wreath Rites, which are performed right after the entrance hymn, but before the priest's greeting. The theme for the 1st Sunday of Advent is being vigilant.

Priest: Father, as we begin our Advent pilgrimage, we light a candle of hope. Grant us the courage to hope: hope for your presence, hope for your peace, and hope for your promise. Amen.
The 1st Purple candle is lighted by the family who has been chosen. During that, the choir will sing "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel"
This is a prayer led by the father or a male member of the family:
Dear Lord, if You come today, we would not know how to face You. When we continue to sin and are too proud to accept our faults, come and deliver us, O Lord. Amen.
This is a prayer led by the mother or a female member of the family:
Dear God, we who claim to be Yours, are often the ones lacking in faith in your Kingship over all things — come, Lord, and open our eyes and strengthen our faith. Amen.
This is a prayer led by one of the children:
Dear God, many times we do not see that You are working out the best for us because we are immersed in our own desires. When we are blinded by the ways of the world and thus fail to see the leading of Your Spirit — come and restore our sight, O God. When we ruled by anger and resentment and when we undermine the importance of living in Your ways — come and restore our sight, O God. Amen.
Priest: Restore our sight, O God, and make us see Your Son Jesus Christ. Let His light shine on us that we may never be lost in the chaos of this world. Make us see Him as He is: the glorious Savior, the King of kings and Lord of lords. Amen.

Mas tú, Yahvé, eres nuestro Padre, nuestro Redentor; éste ha sido siempre tu Nombre. ¿Por qué, Yahvé, permitiste que nos perdiéramos de tus caminos, que nuestros corazones se pusieran tercos y ya no te temieran? ¡Vuelve, por amor de tus servidores y de tus tribus herederas! Desde hace tiempo somos un pueblo que tú no gobiernas y que tu Nombre ya no protege. ¡Ah, si tú rasgaras los cielos y bajaras! Los cerros se derretirían al verte. Si dieras a conocer tu Nombre a tus contrarios, sería como llama que prende en las ramas secas o como el agua que borbotea en el fuego, y las naciones temblarían en tu presencia al verte realizar prodigios inesperados. Nunca se escuchó, ningún oído oyó, ni ojo alguno ha visto que un Dios, fuera de ti, hiciera tanto en favor de quienes confían en él. Tú has desconcertado a los que vivían como justos, y que te recordaban, siguiendo tus caminos. Te enojaste, pues a lo mejor pecamos; hemos actuado mal, pero tendremos salvación. En efecto, ustedes han sido colmados en él con toda clase de riquezas, las de la palabra y las del conocimiento, en la medida que el testimonio de Cristo se arraigó en ustedes. Por eso, mientras esperan la Revelación de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, no les falta ningún don de la gracia. Él los mantendrá firmes hasta el fin, para que sean irreprochables en el día de la Venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Cuando un hombre va al extranjero y deja su casa, entrega responsabilidades a sus sirvientes, cada cual recibe su tarea, y al portero le exige que esté vigilante. Lo mismo ustedes: estén vigilantes, porque no saben cuándo regresará el dueño de casa, si al atardecer, a medianoche, al canto del gallo o de madrugada; no sea que llegue de repente y los encuentre dormidos. Lo que les digo a ustedes se lo digo a todos: Estén despiertos.”

Keadaan kami seolah-olah kami dari dahulu kala tidak pernah berada di bawah pemerintahan-Mu, seolah-olah nama-Mu tidak pernah disebut atas kami. 神が今でも私たちの父であることに、変わりはありません。たとえ、アブラハムとヤコブが私たちを見捨てても、神は私たちの父であり、大昔からの救い主です。主よ、なぜ私たちを頑固にし、罪を犯して神に背くようにされたのですか。どうか、戻って来て、私たちを助けてください。私たちは神のもの、どうしても神が必要です。ああ神よ、どうして私たちを、主の名で呼ばれたことのない外国人のように取り扱われるのですか。ああ、神が天を引き裂いて地上に降りてきますように。山々は御前で、どれほど揺れ動くことでしょう。すべてのものを焼き尽くす栄光の火は、森林を灰にし、海を干上がらせるでしょう。国々は御前で震えるでしょう。その時になって、敵どもは、神の御名が響き渡っている理由を知ります。神は私たちが夢にも考えていなかったような恐ろしいことをするので、神が来る時、山々は打ち震えるでしょう。世界が始まって以来、私たちの神のように、待ち望む者にすばらしいことをしてくれる方は、ほかにありません。神は、喜んで正しいことを行う者、神につき従う者を喜んで迎えてくれます。ところが、私たちは神を敬わず、一生罪を犯し続けています。そのため、神の怒りが重くのしかかっているのです。このような者が、どうして救われるでしょう。私たちはみな罪の毒に冒され、汚れきっています。これこそ正義だという最上の着物をまとっても、悪臭を放つぼろきれにすぎません。私たちは秋の木の葉のように色あせ、しおれて落ちます。あえなく罪の風に吹き飛ばされるばかりです。それでもなお、誰ひとり神の名を呼び、あわれみにすがろうとしません。そこで神も、私たちから顔をそむけ、罪に引き渡したのです。しかし主よ、それでもなお、神は私たちの父です。私たちは粘土で、神は陶器師です。私たちはみな御手によって造られました。
第二読み物（コリント人第一第1章：第3詩–第9詩）
この読み物はコリント人への第一手紙です。
どうか、父なる神と主イエス・キリストが、あなたがたをあふれるほど祝福し、すばらしい平安を与えてくださいますように。神様があなたがたにお与えになったすばらしい恵みを思う時、感謝せずにはいられません。あなたがたは、キリストのものとなったのです。キリストは、あなたがたの生活とすべてのことを充実させ、キリストについて大胆に語る力や、真理を十分に理解する力を与えてくださいました。以前、私が、キリストはきっとそうしてくださると話しておいたとおりでしょう。今、あなたがたは、あらゆる恵みと祝福とを手にしたのです。主イエス・キリストが来られるのを待ち望んでいるこの時、主のお心にかなったことをするのに必要な、あらゆる霊の賜物と力とが、あなたがたには備わっています。そして、主が再び来られるその日に、あなたがたが罪も欠点もない者と認められるように、主は最後まで責任をもって守ってくださいます。この神の約束は確かです。神様はいつでも、語られたことをそのとおり実行されるからです。この神様があなたがたを、神の子、すなわち主イエス・キリストとのすばらしい交わりに招き入れてくださったのです。
