The woman of character, where is she to be found? She is more precious than any jewel. Her husband has complete confidence in her; she will be of great benefit to him. She brings him only good and not evil, all the days of her life. She has obtained wool and flax, and works them with skillful hands. She puts her hand to the distaff and her fingers hold the spindle. She reaches out her hand to the helpless and gives to the poor. Charm is deceptive and beauty useless; the woman who is wise is the one to praise. May she enjoy the fruits of her labor and may all praise her for her works.
Second reading (1 Thessalonians 5: 1–6)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians.
Brothers and sisters: You do not need anyone to write to you about the delay and the appointed time for these events. You know that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. When people feel secure and at peace, the disaster will suddenly come upon them as the birth pangs of a woman in labor, and they will not escape. But you, beloved, are not in darkness; so that day will not surprise you like a thief. All of you are citizens of the light and the day; we do not belong to night and darkness. Let us not, therefore, sleep as others do, but remain alert and sober.
Gospel (Matthew 25: 14–30)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
Jesus stated this parable to his disciples: "Imagine someone, who, before going abroad, summoned his servants to entrust his property to them. He gave five talents of silver to one, then two to another, and one to a third, each one according to his ability; and he went away. He who receive five talents went at once to do business with the money and gained another five. The one who received two did the same and gained another two. But the one with one talent dug a hole and hid his master's money. After a long time, the master of those servants returned and asked for a reckoning. The one who received five talents came with another five talents, stating: 'Lord, you entrusted me with five talents, but see I have gained five more with them.' The master answered: 'Very well, good and faithful servant, since you have been faithful in a few things, I will entrust you with much more. Come and share the joy of your master.' Then the one who had two talents came and stated: 'Lord, you entrusted me with two talents; I have two more which I gained with them.' The master stated: 'Well, good and faithful servant, since you have been faithful in little things, I will entrust you with much more. Come and share the joy of your master.' Finally, the one who had received a talent came and stated: 'Master, I know that you are an exacting man. You reap what you have not sown and gather what you have not invested. I was afraid, so I hid your money in the ground. Here, take what is yours.' But his master replied: 'Wicked and worthless servant, you know that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I have not invested. Then you should have deposited my money in the bank, and you would have given it back to me with interest on my return. Therefore, take the talent from him, and give it to the one who has ten. For to all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who are unproductive, even what they have will be taken from them. As for that useless servant, throw him out into the dark where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'"

When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls. Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize. She brings him good, and not evil, all the days of her life. She obtains wool and flax and works with loving hands. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle. She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy. Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her a reward for her labors, and let her works praise her at the city gates.
Second reading (1 Thessalonians 5: 1–6)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians.
Concerning times and seasons, brothers and sisters, you have no need for anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night. When people are saying, "Peace and security," then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness, for that day to overtake you like a thief. For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober.

Jesus told his disciples this parable: "A man going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one—to each according to his ability. Then he went away. Immediately the one who received five talents went and traded with them, and made another five. Likewise, the one who received two made another two. But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master's money. After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them. The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, 'Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more.' His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.' Then the one who had received two talents also came forward and said, 'Master, you gave me two talents. See, I have made two more.' His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.' Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, 'Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter; so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.' His master said to him in reply, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not scatter? Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return? Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten. For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'"

Una buena ama de casa, ¿quién la encontrará? Es mucho más valiosa que las perlas. El corazón de su marido confía en ella y no le faltará compensación. Ella le hace el bien, y nunca el mal, todos los días de su vida. Se procura la lana y el lino, y trabaja de buena gana con sus manos. Aplica sus manos a la rueca y sus dedos manejan el huso. Abre su mano al desvalido y tiende sus brazos al indigente. Engañoso es el encanto y vana la hermosura: la mujer que teme al Señor merece ser alabada. Entréguenle el fruto de sus manos y que sus obras la alaben públicamente.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 128) (Versículos 1–5)
La respuesta es: Felices son los que temen al Señor.
• ¡Feliz el que teme al Señor y sigue sus caminos! Comerás del fruto de tu trabajo, serás feliz y todo te irá bien.
• Tu esposa será como una vid fecunda en el seno de tu hogar; tus hijos, como retoños de olivo alrededor de tu mesa.

Cuando la gente afirme que hay paz y seguridad, la destrucción caerá sobre ellos repentinamente, como los dolores de parto sobre una mujer embarazada, y nadie podrá escapar. Pero ustedes, hermanos, no viven en las tinieblas para que ese Día los sorprenda como un ladrón: todos ustedes son hijos de la luz, hijos del día. Nosotros no pertenecemos a la noche ni a las tinieblas. No nos durmamos, entonces, como hacen los otros: permanezcamos despiertos y seamos sobrios.

El que recibió cinco talentos negoció en seguida con el dinero y ganó otros cinco. El que recibió dos hizo otro tanto, y ganó otros dos. Pero el que recibió uno cavó un hoyo en la tierra y escondió el dinero de su patrón. Después de mucho tiempo vino el señor de esos servidores y les pidió cuentas. El que había recibido cinco talentos le presentó otros cinco más, diciéndole: ‘Señor, tú me entregaste cinco talentos, pero aquí están otros cinco más que gané con ellos.’ El patrón le contestó: ‘Muy bien, servidor bueno y honrado; ya que has sido fiel en lo poco, yo te voy a confiar mucho más. Isteri yang cakap siapakah akan mendapatkannya? Ia lebih berharga dari pada permata. Hati suaminya percaya kepadanya, suaminya tidak akan kekurangan keuntungan. Ia berbuat baik kepada suaminya dan tidak berbuat jahat sepanjang umurnya. Ia mencari bulu domba dan rami, dan senang bekerja dengan tangannya. Tangannya ditaruhnya pada jentera, jari-jarinya memegang pemintal. Ia memberikan tangannya kepada yang tertindas, mengulurkan tangannya kepada yang miskin. Kemolekan adalah bohong dan kecantikan adalah sia-sia, tetapi isteri yang takut akan TUHAN dipuji-puji. Berilah kepadanya bagian dari hasil tangannya, biarlah perbuatannya memuji dia di pintu-pintu gerbang!

Mahirap makakita ng mabuting asawa, higit sa mamahaling alahas ang kanyang halaga. Lubos ang tiwala ng kanyang asawa, at saganang pakinabang ang makakamit niya. Pinaglilingkuran niya ang asawa habang sila'y nabubuhay, pawang kabutihan ang ginagawa at di kasamaan. Wala siyang tigil sa paggawa, hindi na halos nagpapahinga, humahabi ng kanyang telang lino at lana. Siya'y gumagawa ng mga sinulid, at humahabi ng sariling damit. Matulungin siya sa mahirap, at sa nangangailanga'y bukás ang palad. Mandaraya ang pang-akit at kumukupas ang ganda, ngunit ang babaing gumagalang at sumusunod kay Yahweh ay pararangalan. Ibigay sa kanya ang lahat ng parangal, karapat-dapat siya sa papuri ng bayan.

Ang tugon ay: Mapalad ang bawat tao na sa Panginoon ay may takot.
• Mapalad ang bawat tao na kay Yahweh ay may takot, ang maalab na naisi'y sumunod sa kanyang utos. Kakainin niya ang bunga ng kanyang pinaghirapan, ang taong ito'y maligaya't maunlad ang pamumuhay.
• Sa tahanan, ang asawa'y parang ubas na mabunga, at bagong tanim na olibo sa may hapag ang anak niya.
• Ang sinuman kung si Yahweh buong pusong susundin, buhay niya ay uunlad at laging pagpapalain. Mula sa Zion, pagpapala nawa ni Yahweh ay tanggapin, at makita habang buhay, pag-unlad ng Jerusalem.

Ngunit wala na kayo sa kadiliman, mga kapatid, kaya't hindi kayo mabibigla sa Araw na iyon na darating na parang magnanakaw. Kayong lahat ay kabilang sa panig ng liwanag, sa panig ng araw, hindi sa panig ng gabi o ng dilim. Kaya nga, kailangang tayo'y manatiling gising, laging handa, at malinaw ang isip, at di tulad ng iba.

Heto naman po ang limanlibong salaping ginto na tinubo nito.’ “Sinabi sa kanya ng panginoon, ‘Magaling! Tapat at mabuting lingkod! Halika, samahan mo ako sa aking kagalakan. Alam mo palang pinipitas ko ang bunga ng hindi ko itinanim at inaani ko ang hindi ko inihasik, bakit hindi mo na lamang inilagay sa bangko ang aking salapi! Kahit paano'y may tinubo sana ito! Kunin ninyo sa kanya ang isanlibong salaping ginto at ibigay sa may sampung libong salaping ginto. Sapagkat ang mayroon ay bibigyan pa, at magkakaroon ng sagana; ngunit ang wala, pati ang kakaunting nasa kanya ay kukunin pa. Itapon ninyo sa kadiliman sa labas ang walang silbing taong iyan! Doo'y mananangis siya at magngangalit ang kanyang mga ngipin.’”

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

有能な妻を見いだすのは誰か。真珠よりはるかに貴い妻を。夫は心から彼女を信頼している。儲けに不足することはない。彼女は生涯の日々夫に幸いはもたらすが、災いはもたらさない。羊毛と亜麻を求め手ずから望みどおりのものに仕立てる。手を糸車に伸べ、手のひらに錘をあやつる。貧しい人には手を開き、乏しい人に手を伸べる。あでやかさは欺き、美しさは空しい。主を畏れる女こそ、たたえられる。彼女にその手の実りを報いよ。その業を町の城門でたたえよ。
第二読み物（テサロニケの信徒第一第5章：第1詩–第6詩）
この読み物はテサロニケの信徒第一への手紙です。
兄弟たち、その時と時期についてあなたがたには書き記す必要はありません。盗人が夜やって来るように、主の日は来るということを、あなたがた自身よく知っているからです。人々が「無事だ。安全だ」と言っているそのやさきに、突然、破滅が襲うのです。ちょうど妊婦に産みの苦しみがやって来るのと同じで、決してそれから逃れられません。しかし、兄弟たち、あなたがたは暗闇の中にいるのではありません。ですから、主の日が、盗人のように突然あなたがたを襲うことはないのです。あなたがたはすべて光の子、昼の子だからです。わたしたちは、夜にも暗闇にも属していません。従って、ほかの人々のように眠っていないで、目を覚まし、身を慎んでいましょう。

ほんとうに良い妻を見つけたら、宝石よりもすばらしいものを手に入れたことになるのです。彼女は夫に信頼され、夫に決して不自由な思いはさせません。いつも陰にあって夫を助け、足を引っ張るようなことはしません。また羊毛や亜麻を見つけては、喜びながらつむぎ、貧しい人には服を縫って与え、困っている人を喜んで助けます。人は見かけの美しさにすぐだまされますが、そんな美しさは長続きしません。しかし主を恐れる女はほめたたえられます。「りっぱな女だ」と評判になり、ついには国の指導者にまで称賛されるようになります。

この読み物はテサロニケ人第一への手紙です。
愛する皆さん。それらがいつ起こるかについては、私は何も答える必要がありません。その時を言い当てることができる人などいないことは、よくご存じのはずです。主の日は、夜中にこっそり忍び込む盗人のように、思いがけない時に来ます。人々が、「万事順調で、平穏無事だ」と言っているような時、突然、災いが襲いかかるようにやって来ます。それはちょうど、出産の時、母親に陣痛が襲うのと似ています。その災いから逃れることができる人はいません。身を隠す場所など、どこにもないからです。しかし、皆さん。あなたがたはこのことについて、皆目わからない暗闇の中にいるわけではないのですから、主の日が来ても、強盗に襲われたようにあわてふためくことはありません。あなたがたはみな、光の子ども、真昼の子どもであって、暗闇や夜に属する者ではないからです。ですから、ほかの人たちのように眠りこけないで、目を覚ましていなさい。主が再び来られる日に備えて、節度をもって生活しなさい。
