My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle; they come to an end without hope. Remember that my life is like the wind; I shall not see happiness again.

Brothers and sisters: If I preach the gospel, this is no reason for me to boast, for an obligation has been imposed on me, and woe to me if I do not preach it! If I do so willingly, I have a recompense, but if unwillingly, then I have been entrusted with a stewardship. What then is my recompense? That, when I preach, I offer the gospel free of charge so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel. Although I am free in regard to all, I have made myself a slave to all so as to win over as many as possible. To the weak I became weak, to win over the weak. I have become all things to all, to save at least some. All this I do for the sake of the gospel, so that I too may have a share in it.

On leaving the synagogue Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them. When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon and those who were with him pursued him and on finding him said, "Everyone is looking for you." He told them, "Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come." So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee.

My days pass swifter than a weaver's shuttle, heading without hope to their end. My life is like wind, you well know it, O God; never will I see happiness again."
Second reading (1 Corinthians 9: 16–19 and 22–23)

Whereas I cannot boast of announcing the Gospel: I am bound to do it. Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel! If I preach voluntarily, I could expect my reward, but I have been trusted this office against my will. How can I, then, deserve a reward? In announcing the Gospel, I will do it freely without making use of the rights given to me by the Gospel. So, feeling free with everybody, I have become everybody's slave in order to gain a greater number. To the weak, I made myself weak, to win the weak. So, I made myself all things to all people, in order to save, by all possible means, some of them. This I do for the Gospel, so that I too, have a share of it.

Very early in the morning, before daylight, Jesus went off to a lonely place where he prayed. Simon and the others went out also, searching for him; and when they found him, they stated, "Everyone is searching for you." Then Jesus answered, "Let us go to the nearby villages so that I may preach there too; for that is why I came." So Jesus set out to preach in all the synagogues through Galilee; he also cast out plenty of demons.

¿No es una servidumbre la vida del hombre sobre la tierra? ¿No son sus jornadas las de un asalariado? Como un esclavo que suspira por la sombra, como un asalariado que espera su jornal, así me han tocado en herencia meses vacíos, me han sido asignadas noches de dolor. Al acostarme, pienso: “¿Cuándo me levantaré?” Pero la noche se hace muy larga y soy presa de la inquietud hasta la aurora. Mis días corrieron más veloces que una lanzadera: al terminarse el hilo, llegaron a su fin. Recuerda que mi vida es un soplo y que mis ojos no verán más la felicidad.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 147) (Versículos 1–6)
La respuesta es: Adora al Señor que cura a los que están afligidos. (O puedes decir ¡aleluya!)
• ¡Qué bueno es cantar a nuestro Dios, qué agradable y merecida es su alabanza! El Señor reconstruye a Jerusalén y congrega a los dispersos de Israel.

Si anuncio el Evangelio, no lo hago para gloriarme: al contrario, es para mí una necesidad imperiosa. ¡Ay de mí si no predicara el Evangelio! Si yo realizara esta tarea por iniciativa propia, merecería ser recompensado, pero si lo hago por necesidad, quiere decir que se me ha confiado una misión. ¿Cuál es entonces mi recompensa? Predicar gratuitamente la Buena Noticia, renunciando al derecho que esa Buena Noticia me confiere. En efecto, siendo libre, me hice esclavo de todos, para ganar al mayor número posible. Me hice judío con los judíos para ganar a los judíos; me sometí a la Ley, con los que están sometidos a ella (aunque yo no lo estoy) a fin de ganar a los que están sometidos a la Ley. Y me hice débil con los débiles, para ganar a los débiles. Me hice todo para todos, para ganar por lo menos a algunos, a cualquier precio. Y todo esto, por amor a la Buena Noticia, a fin de poder participar de sus bienes.

Cuando cayó la tarde, luego que el sol se puso, le trajeron todos los que estaban enfermos y los endemoniados; y toda la ciudad se agolpó a la puerta. Jesús sanó a muchos que estaban enfermos de diversas enfermedades y echó fuera muchos demonios; y no dejaba hablar a los demonios, porque lo conocían. Maka berkerumunlah seluruh penduduk kota itu di depan pintu. Ia menyembuhkan banyak orang yang menderita bermacam-macam penyakit dan mengusir banyak setan; Ia tidak memperbolehkan setan-setan itu berbicara, sebab mereka mengenal Dia. 人は、どうして苦しみもだえなければならないのか。人の一生は、奴隷の日々のように長く苛酷だ。一日の終わりが、なんと待ち遠しいことか。人は賃金を受け取る週末まで汗水流して働く。同じように私にも、苦しい日々と、長くて物憂い夜がある。床につくとき、『今が朝ならいいのに』と思い、夜が明けるまで、寝返りを打って悶々とする。望みもないまま、またたく間に一日一日が過ぎ去る。私のいのちは、はかない息のようで、良いものは何一つ残っていない。
第一読み物（コリント人への手紙一第9章：第16詩–第23詩）
この読み物はコリント人への第一手紙です。
それというのも、福音を宣べ伝えても、別に私の名誉にはならないからです。たとえやめたいと思っても、やめるわけにはいきません。当然、果たすべきこの任務をもしやめたら、全くみじめなことになります。福音を宣べ伝えなかったら、私は災いに会います。もし、自分から進んでこの務めを引き受けたのであれば、主は私に特別な報酬を下さるでしょう。しかし、そうではなかったのです。神様が私を選び出して、この聖なる任務につかせてくださったのであって、選ぶ自由などなかったのです。このような状況で、私の受ける報酬とはどんなものでしょう。だれにも負担をかけず、自分の権利を少しも主張せずに、福音を宣べ伝えることから来る特別の喜び、これこそ私の報酬なのです。これにはまた、すばらしい利点があります。だれからも給料をもらわないということは、だれからも自由だということです。けれども私は、一人でも多くの人をキリストに導くために、自ら進んで、また喜んで、すべての人の奴隷となりました。私はユダヤ人といっしょにいる時は、ユダヤ人のようにふるまいます。それによって、彼らが福音に耳を傾け、キリストに導かれるためです。また、ユダヤ教の習慣や儀式を守っている外国人といっしょにいる時は、私自身はそのことに同意していなくても、議論したりはしません。何とかして、彼らを助けたいからです。異教徒といっしょにいる時は、できるだけ、彼らに合わせるようにしています。もちろん、クリスチャンとしての正しさだけは失わないように気をつけますが。こうして、彼らに合わせることによって、その信頼を得、彼らをも助けることができるのです。良心を悩ませやすい人たちのそばでは、自分の知識をひけらかすような行動をしたり、「それは考えが足りない」などと指摘したりはしません。すると、彼らのほうでも心を開いてくれます。その人が救われるためには、私はどんな人に対しても同じ立場に立とうと心がけています。これは福音を伝えるためであり、また、キリストの救いに導かれる彼らを見て、私自身も祝福を受けるためなのです。
福音書（マルコ第1章：第29詩–第39詩）

このあと会堂を出た一行は、シモンとアンデレの家に行きました。ところがこの時、シモンのしゅうとめは高熱にうなされて、床についていました。イエスはそれを知ると、さっそく彼女のそばに行き、手を取って起こされました。するとどうでしょう。たちまち熱が下がり、すっかり元気になったしゅうとめは、みんなをもてなすために、食事の用意を始めたのです。日の沈むころになると、シモンの家の庭は、イエスに治していただこうと連れて来られた病人や悪霊につかれた者たちで、いっぱいになりました。また戸口には、カペナウム中の人たちが詰めかけ、がやがや騒ぎながら中の様子をながめていました。イエスはこの時も多くの病人を治し、悪霊を追い出されました。しかも、悪霊にひとことも口をきかせませんでした。悪霊は、イエスがどういう方か知っていたからです。翌朝、イエスは夜明け前に起き、ただひとり、人気のない所へ行って祈られました。そのうちに、あちらこちらとイエスを捜し回っていたシモンたちが来て、「みんなが先生を捜しています」と言いました。イエスは、「さあ、ほかの町へ出かけましょう。そこでも教えなければなりません。わたしはそのために来たのですから」とお答えになりました。こうしてイエスは、ガリラヤ中をくまなく回り、会堂で教え、悪霊につかれた人を大ぜいお助けになりました。

もっとも、わたしが福音を告げ知らせても、それはわたしの誇りにはなりません。そうせずにはいられないことだからです。福音を告げ知らせないなら、わたしは不幸なのです。自分からそうしているなら、報酬を得るでしょう。しかし、強いられてするなら、それは、ゆだねられている務めなのです。では、わたしの報酬とは何でしょうか。それは、福音を告げ知らせるときにそれを無報酬で伝え、福音を伝えるわたしが当然持っている権利を用いないということです。わたしは、だれに対しても自由な者ですが、すべての人の奴隷になりました。できるだけ多くの人を得るためです。ユダヤ人に対しては、ユダヤ人のようになりました。ユダヤ人を得るためです。律法に支配されている人に対しては、わたし自身はそうではないのですが、律法に支配されている人のようになりました。律法に支配されている人を得るためです。また、わたしは神の律法を持っていないわけではなく、キリストの律法に従っているのですが、律法を持たない人に対しては、律法を持たない人のようになりました。律法を持たない人を得るためです。弱い人に対しては、弱い人のようになりました。弱い人を得るためです。すべての人に対してすべてのものになりました。何とかして何人かでも救うためです。福音のためなら、わたしはどんなことでもします。それは、わたしが福音に共にあずかる者となるためです。
福音書（マルコ第1章：第29詩–第39詩）
この読み物はマルコによる福音書です。
すぐに、一行は会堂を出て、シモンとアンデレの家に行った。ヤコブとヨハネも一緒であった。シモンのしゅうとめが熱を出して寝ていたので、人々は早速、彼女のことをイエスに話した。イエスがそばに行き、手を取って起こされると、熱は去り、彼女は一同をもてなした。夕方になって日が沈むと、人々は、病人や悪霊に取りつかれた者を皆、イエスのもとに連れて来た。町中の人が、戸口に集まった。イエスは、いろいろな病気にかかっている大勢の人たちをいやし、また、多くの悪霊を追い出して、悪霊にものを言うことをお許しにならなかった。悪霊はイエスを知っていたからである。朝早くまだ暗いうちに、イエスは起きて、人里離れた所へ出て行き、そこで祈っておられた。シモンとその仲間はイエスの後を追い、見つけると、「みんなが捜しています」と言った。イエスは言われた。「近くのほかの町や村へ行こう。そこでも、わたしは宣教する。そのためにわたしは出て来たのである。」そして、ガリラヤ中の会堂に行き、宣教し、悪霊を追い出された。
