First reading (Genesis 1:1 – 2:2)

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters. Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw how good the light was. God then separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." Thus evening came, and morning followed—the first day. Then God said, "Let there be a dome in the middle of the waters, to separate one body of water from the other." And so it happened: God made the dome, and it separated the water above the dome from the water below it. God called the dome "the sky." Evening came, and morning followed—the second day. Then God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered into a single basin, so that the dry land may appear." And so it happened: the water under the sky was gathered into its basin, and the dry land appeared. God called the dry land "the earth," and the basin of the water he called "the sea." God saw how good it was. Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth vegetation: every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it." And so it happened: the earth brought forth every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it. God saw how good it was. Evening came, and morning followed—the third day. Then God said: "Let there be lights in the dome of the sky, to separate day from night. Let them mark the fixed times, the days and the years, and serve as luminaries in the dome of the sky, to shed light upon the earth." And so it happened: God made the two great lights, the greater one to govern the day, and the lesser one to govern the night; and he made the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky, to shed light upon the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. God saw how good it was. Evening came, and morning followed—the fourth day. Then God said, "Let the water teem with an abundance of living creatures, and on the earth let birds fly beneath the dome of the sky." And so it happened: God created the great sea monsters and all kinds of swimming creatures with which the water teems, and all kinds of winged birds. God saw how good it was, and God blessed them, saying, "Be fertile, multiply, and fill the water of the seas; and let the birds multiply on the earth." Evening came, and morning followed—the fifth day. Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth all kinds of living creatures: cattle, creeping things, and wild animals of all kinds." And so it happened: God made all kinds of wild animals, all kinds of cattle, and all kinds of creeping things of the earth. God saw how good it was. Then God said: "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground." God created man in his image; in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them, saying: "Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on the earth." God also said: "See, I give you every seed-bearing plant all over the earth and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit on it to be your food; and to all the animals of the land, all the birds of the air, and all the living creatures that crawl on the ground, I give all the green plants for food." And so it happened. God looked at everything he had made, and he found it very good. Evening came, and morning followed—the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth and all their array were completed. Since on the seventh day God was finished with the work he had been doing, he rested on the seventh day from all the work he had undertaken.

Second reading (Genesis 22: 1–18)

God put Abraham to the test. He called to him, "Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied. Then God said: "Take your son Isaac, your only one, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah. There you shall offer him up as a holocaust on a height that I will point out to you." Early the next morning Abraham saddled his donkey, took with him his son Isaac and two of his servants as well, and with the wood that he had cut for the holocaust, set out for the place of which God had told him. On the third day Abraham got sight of the place from afar. Then he said to his servants: "Both of you stay here with the donkey, while the boy and I go on over yonder. We will worship and then come back to you." Thereupon Abraham took the wood for the holocaust and laid it on his son Isaac's shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two walked on together, Isaac spoke to his father Abraham: "Father!" Isaac said. "Yes, son, " he replied. Isaac continued, "Here are the fire and the wood, but where is the sheep for the holocaust?" "Son," Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the sheep for the holocaust." Then the two continued going forward. When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. Next he tied up his son Isaac, and put him on top of the wood on the altar. Then he reached out and took the knife to slaughter his son. But the LORD's messenger called to him from heaven, "Abraham, Abraham!" "Here I am!" he answered. "Do not lay your hand on the boy," said the messenger. "Do not do the least thing to him. I know now how devoted you are to God, since you did not withhold from me your own beloved son." As Abraham looked about, he spied a ram caught by its horns in the thicket. So he went and took the ram and offered it up as a holocaust in place of his son. Abraham named the site Yahweh-yireh; hence people now say, “On the mountain the LORD will see." Again the LORD's messenger called to Abraham from heaven and said:  "I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you acted as you did in not withholding from me your beloved son, I will bless you abundantly and make your descendants as countless as the stars of the sky and the sands of the seashore; your descendants shall take possession of the gates of their enemies, and in your descendants all the nations of the earth shall find blessing all this because you obeyed my command."

Third reading (Exodus 14:15 – 15:1)

The LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to go forward. And you, lift up your staff and, with hand outstretched over the sea, split the sea in two, that the Israelites may pass through it on dry land. But I will make the Egyptians so obstinate that they will go in after them. Then I will receive glory through Pharaoh and all his army, his chariots and charioteers. The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I receive glory through Pharaoh and his chariots and charioteers." The angel of God, who had been leading Israel's camp, now moved and went around behind them. The column of cloud also, leaving the front, took up its place behind them, so that it came between the camp of the Egyptians and that of Israel. But the cloud now became dark, and thus the night passed without the rival camps coming any closer together all night long. Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD swept the sea with a strong east wind throughout the night and so turned it into dry land. When the water was thus divided, the Israelites marched into the midst of the sea on dry land, with the water like a wall to their right and to their left. The Egyptians followed in pursuit; all Pharaoh's horses and chariots and charioteers went after them right into the midst of the sea. In the night watch just before dawn, the LORD cast through the column of the fiery cloud upon the Egyptian force a glance that threw it into a panic; and he so clogged their chariot wheels that they could hardly drive. With that, the Egyptians sounded the retreat before Israel, because the LORD was fighting for them against the Egyptians. Then the LORD told Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the water may flow back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots and their charioteers.” So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at dawn the sea flowed back to its normal depth. The Egyptians were fleeing head on toward the sea, when the LORD hurled them into its midst. As the water flowed back, it covered the chariots and the charioteers of Pharaoh's whole army, which had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not a single one of them escaped. But the Israelites had marched on dry land through the midst of the sea, with the water like a wall to their right and to their left. Thus, the LORD saved Israel on that day from the power of the Egyptians. When Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the seashore and beheld the great power that the LORD had shown against the Egyptians, they feared the LORD and believed in him and in his servant Moses. Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: I will sing to the LORD, for he is gloriously triumphant; horse and chariot he has cast into the sea.

Fourth reading (Isaiah 54: 5–14)
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
The One who has become your husband is your Maker; his name is the LORD of hosts; your redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, called God of all the earth. The LORD calls you back, like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, a wife married in youth and then cast off, says your God. For a brief moment, I abandoned you, but with great tenderness, I will take you back. In an outburst of wrath, for a moment I hid my face from you; but with enduring love I take pity on you, says the LORD, your redeemer. This is for me like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah should never again deluge the earth; so I have sworn not to be angry with you, or to rebuke you. Though the mountains leave their place and the hills be shaken, my love shall never leave you nor my covenant of peace be shaken, says the LORD, who has mercy on you. O afflicted one, storm-battered and unconsoled, I lay your pavements in carnelians, and your foundations in sapphires; I will make your battlements of rubies, your gates of carbuncles, and all your walls of precious stones. All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children. In justice shall you be established, far from the fear of oppression, where destruction cannot come near you.

Fifth reading (Isaiah 55: 1–11)

Thus says the LORD: All you who are thirsty, come to the water! You who have no money, come, receive grain and eat; come, without paying and without cost, drink wine and milk! Why spend your money for what is not bread, your wages for what fails to satisfy? Heed me, and you shall eat well, you shall delight in rich fare. Come to me heedfully, listen, that you may have life. I will renew with you the everlasting covenant, the benefits assured to David. As I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander of nations, so shall you summon a nation you knew not, and nations that knew you not shall run to you, because of the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, who has glorified you. Seek the LORD while he may be found, call him while he is near. Let the scoundrel forsake his way, and the wicked man his thoughts; let him turn to the LORD for mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts. For just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; my word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.

Sixth reading (Baruch 3: 9–15, 32C and 4:4)

Hear, O Israel, the commandments of life: listen, and know prudence! How is it, Israel, that you are in the land of your foes, grown old in a foreign land, defiled with the dead, accounted with those destined for the netherworld? You have forsaken the fountain of wisdom! Had you walked in the way of God, you would have dwelt in enduring peace. Learn where prudence is, where strength, where understanding; that you may know also where are length of days, and life, where light of the eyes, and peace. Who has found the place of wisdom, who has entered into her treasuries? The One who knows all things knows her; he has probed her by his knowledge. The One who established the earth for all time, and filled it with four-footed beasts; he who dismisses the light, and it departs, calls it, and it obeys him trembling; before whom the stars at their posts shine and rejoice; when he calls them, they answer, "Here we are!" shining with joy for their Maker. Such is our God; no other is to be compared to him: He has traced out the whole way of understanding, and has given her to Jacob, his servant, to Israel, his beloved son. Since then she has appeared on earth, and moved among people. She is the book of the precepts of God, the law that endures forever; all who cling to her will live, but those will die who forsake her. Turn, O Jacob, and receive her: walk by her light toward splendor. Give not your glory to another, your privileges to an alien race. Blessed are we, O Israel; for what pleases God is known to us!

Seventh reading (Ezekiel 36: 16–17A and 18–28)

The word of the LORD came to me, saying: Son of man, when the house of Israel lived in their land, they defiled it by their conduct and deeds. Therefore I poured out my fury upon them because of the blood that they poured out on the ground, and because they defiled it with idols. I scattered them among the nations, dispersing them over foreign lands; according to their conduct and deeds I judged them. But when they came among the nations wherever they came, they served to profane my holy name, because it was said of them: "These are the people of the LORD, yet they had to leave their land." So I have relented because of my holy name which the house of Israel profaned among the nations where they came. Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord GOD: Not for your sakes do I act, house of Israel, but for the sake of my holy name, which you profaned among the nations to which you came. I will prove the holiness of my great name, profaned among the nations, in whose midst you have profaned it. Thus the nations shall know that I am the LORD, says the Lord GOD, when in their sight I prove my holiness through you. For I will take you away from among the nations, gather you from all the foreign lands, and bring you back to your own land. I will sprinkle clean water upon you to cleanse you from all your impurities, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giving you natural hearts. I will put my spirit within you and make you live by my statutes, careful to observe my decrees. You shall live in the land I gave your fathers; you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

Epistle (Romans 6: 3–11)

Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. For if we have grown into union with him through a death like his, we shall also be united with him in the resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be done away with, that we might no longer be in slavery to sin. For a dead person has been absolved from sin. If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God. Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as being dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus.

Gospel (Mark 16: 1–17)

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go and anoint him. Very early when the sun had risen, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb. They were saying to one another, "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" When they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back; it was very large. On entering the tomb they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe, and they were utterly amazed. He said to them, "Do not be amazed! You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Behold the place where they laid him. But go and tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you.'"

There was evening and there was morning: the first day. God stated, "Let there be a firm ceiling between the waters and let it separate waters from waters." So God made the ceiling and separated the waters below it from the waters above it. And so it was. God called the firm ceiling 'Sky'. There was evening and there was morning: the second day. Some time later God tested Abraham and stated to him, "Abraham!" And he answered, "Here I am." Then God stated, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I shall point out to you." Abraham rose early next morning and saddled his donkey and took with him two of his young men and his son Isaac. He chopped wood for the burnt offering and set out for the place to which God had directed him. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance, and he stated to the young men, "Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there to worship and then we will come back to you." Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. He carried in his hand the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke to Abraham, his father, "Father!" And Abraham replied, "Yes, my son?" Isaac stated, "The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for the sacrifice?" Abraham replied, "God himself will provide the lamb for the sacrifice." They went on, the two of them together, until they came to the place to which God had directed them. When Abraham had built the altar and set the wood on it, he bound his son Isaac and laid him on the wood placed on the altar. He then stretched out his hand to seize the knife and slay his son. But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!" And he replied, "Here I am." "Do not lay your hand on the boy; do not harm him, for now I know that you fear God, and you have not held back from me your only son." Abraham looked around and saw behind him a ram caught by its horns in a bush. He offered it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place 'The Lord will provide.' And the Angel of the Lord called from heaven a second time, "By myself I have sworn, it is the Lord who speaks, because you have done this and not held back your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the lands of their enemies. All the nations of the earth will be blessed through your descendants because you have obeyed me."

Third reading (Exodus 14:15 – 15:1)

The Lord stated to Moses, "Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward. You will raise your staff and stretch your hand over the sea and divide to let the Israelites go dry foot through the sea. I will so harden the minds of the Egyptians that they will follow you. And I will have glory at the expense of Pharaoh, his army, his chariots and horsemen. The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory for myself at the cost of Pharaoh and his army!" The Angel of God who had gone ahead of the Israelites now placed himself behind them. The pillar of cloud changed its position from the front to the rear, between the camps of the Israelites and the Egyptians. For one army the cloud provided light, for the other darkness so that throughout the night the armies drew no closer to each other. Moses stretched his hand of the sea and the Lord made a strong east wind blow all night and dry up the sea. The waters divided and the sons of Israel went on dry ground through the middle of the sea, with the waters forming a wall to their right and to their left. The Egyptians followed them and all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots and horsemen moved forward in the middle of the sea. It happened that in the morning watch, the Lord in the pillar and fire, looked towards the Egyptian camp and threw it into confusion. He so clogged their chariot wheels that they could hardly move. Then the Egyptians stated, "Let us flee from the Israelites for the Lord is fighting for them against Egypt." Then the Lord stated to Moses, "Stretch your hand over the sea and let the waters come back over the Egyptians, over their chariots and horsemen." Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. At daybreak the sea returned to its place. As the Egyptians tried to retreat, the Lord swept them into the sea. The waters flowed back and engulfed the chariots and horsemen of the whole army of Pharaoh that had followed Israel into the sea. Not one of them escaped. As for the Israelites they went forward on dry ground in the middle of the sea, the waters forming a wall on their right and their left. On that day the Lord delivered Israel from the power of the Egyptians and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the seashore. They understood what wonders the Lord had done for them against Egypt, and the people feared the Lord. They believed in the Lord and in Moses, his servant. Then Moses and the people sang this song to the Lord: I will sing to the Lord, the glorious one, horse and rider he has thrown into the sea.


Fourth reading (Isaiah 54: 5–14)

For your maker is to marry you: the Lord Sabaoth is his name. Your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel: He is called God of all the earth. For the Lord has called you back as one forsaken and grieved in spirit. "Who could abandon his first beloved?" says your God. For a brief moment I have abandoned you, but with great tenderness I will gather my people. For a moment, in an outburst of anger, I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I have had mercy on you, says the Lord, your Redeemer. This is for me like Noah's waters, when I swore that they would no more flood the earth; so now I swear not to be angry with you and never again to rebuke you. The mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but never will my love depart from you nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord whose compassion is for you. O afflicted city, lashed by storm and unconsoled, I will set your stones with turquoise, your foundation with sapphires. I will crown your wall with agate, make your gates crystal, and your ramparts of precious stones. All your children will be taught by the Lord, and they will prosper greatly. Come here, all you who are thirsty, come to the water! All who have no money, come! Yes, without money and at no cost, buy and drink wine and milk. Why spend money on what is not food and labor for what does not satisfy? Listen to me, and you will eat well; you will enjoy the richest of fare. Incline your ear and come to me; listen, that your soul may live. I will make you you an everlasting covenant, I will fulfill in you many promises to David. See, I have given him for a witness to the nations, a leader and commander of the people. Likewise you will summon a nation unknown to you, and nations that do not know you will come hurrying to you for the sake of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has promised you. Seek the Lord while he may be found; call to him while he is near. Let the wicked abandon his way, let him forsake his thoughts, let him turn to the Lord for he will have mercy, for our God is generous in forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, may ways are not your ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are above the earth, so are may ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts above your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from the heavens and do not return till they have watered the earth, make it yield seed for the sower and food for others to eat, so is my word that goes forth out of my mouth: it will not return to me idle, but it shall accomplish my will, the purpose for which it has been sent.

Sixth reading (Baruch 3: 9–15, 32 – 4:4)

Listen, Israel, to the commands of life, give ear so as to learn prudence. Why, Israel! Why are you in the land of your foes? Why are you growing old in a foreign country, contaminated by pagans, counted among those who go to the pit? You have abandoned the source of Wisdom. If you had walked in the way of God, peace would be your dwelling place forever. Learn where is Wisdom, where is Strength and Understanding, that you may know, at the same time, where are length of days and life, light of the eyes and peace. Who will find Wisdom's dwelling? Who will enter her storage rooms? But he who knows her path, no one who thinks of her way. But he who knows everything recognizes her. He has found her in his own intellect. He who created the earth, for all time, and has filled it with four-footed beings. He who sends the light, and it goes, who recalls it, and trembling it obeys. The stars shine, full of joy, to keep their night watches. He calls them and they answer, "Here we are." They shine with joy for their creator. It is he who is our God, no other can be compared with him. He has found the way of understanding and has given her to Jacob his servant and to Israel his well-beloved. Then Wisdom was seen on earth and lived among humans. She herself is the book of the commands of God, the law which endures forever. All who hold fast to her will have life but those who abandon her will die. Come back, Jacob, and embrace her, walk towards brightness under her light. Do not give up what is your glory or sell your privileges to any strange nation. We are fortunate, O Israel, for we know what pleases the Lord!

Seventh reading (Ezekiel 36: 16–28)

The word of the Lord came to me in these terms, "Son of man, when Israel occupied her own land she defiled it by her way of life and her actions. To me her conduct was like the uncleanness of a women in her period. I poured out my fury on them because of the blood they shed in the land and because they defiled it with their filthy idols. Then I scattered them among the nations and disperse them in other lands. I judged them according to their conduct and their actions. But when they were brought to other nations, my holy Name was profaned because others stated to them: 'The people of the Lord had to be exiled from this land!' Then I was concerned for my holy Name, profaned by Israel among the nations where she had been dispersed. Now you shall say to the people of Israel: It is not for your sake that I am about to act, but because of my holy Name that you have profaned in the places where you have gone. Epistle (Romans 6: 3–11)

Brothers and sisters: You know that in baptism which unites us to Christ we are all baptized and plunged into his death. By this baptism in his death, we were buried with Christ and, as Christ was raised from among the dead by the Glory of the Father, so we begin walking in a new life. I was an image of his death when we were grafted in him, and so we will also share in his resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with Christ, so as to destroy what of us was sin — if we are dead, we are no longer in debt to sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe we will also live with him. We know that Christ, once risen from the dead, will never die again and death has no more dominion over him. There has been death: a death to sin once for all; there is life; a life in God. So you, too, must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

When the Sabbath was over, Mary of Magdala, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go and anoint the body of Jesus. And very early in the morning on the first day of the week, right just after sunrise, they come to the tomb. They were saying to one another, "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" But as they looked up, they noticed that the stone had already been rolled away. It was a very big stone. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man in a white robe seated on the right, and they were amazed. But he stated to them, "Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified; he has been raised and is not here. This is, however, the place where they laid him. Now go and tell his disciples and Peter: Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there just as he told you." The women went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them. And they were so afraid that they stated nothing to anyone.

    1. Nine readings are assigned for the Easter Vigil. However, due to the limited time available for celebrating the Mass, the number of prescribed readings has to be reduced to five. Three readings from the Old Testament are read, while two readings, the epistle and the gospel are read. In any case, the reading from Exodus 14:15 – 15:1 should not be omitted.

Y al entrar en el sepulcro vieron, sentado al lado derecho, a un joven vestido con una túnica blanca. Las mujeres se asustaron, pero él les dijo: “No se asusten.     4. Segunda lectura (Génesis 22: 1–18)
      Una lectura del libro del Génesis.
      Tiempo después, Dios quiso probar a Abraham y lo llamó: “Abraham.” Respondió él: “Aquí estoy.” Y Dios le dijo: “Toma a tu hijo, al único que tienes y al que amas, Isaac, y vete a la región de Moriah. Allí me lo ofrecerás en holocausto, en un cerro que yo te indicaré.” Se levantó Abraham de madrugada, ensilló su burro, llamó a dos criados para que lo acompañaran, y tomó consigo a su hijo Isaac. Partió leña para el sacrificio y se puso en marcha hacia el lugar que Dios le había indicado. Al tercer día levantó los ojos y divisó desde lejos el lugar. Entonces dijo a los criados: “Quédense aquí con el burro. Yo y el niño iremos hasta allá a adorar, y luego volveremos donde ustedes.” Abraham tomó la leña para el sacrificio y la cargó sobre su hijo Isaac. Tomó luego en su mano el brasero y el cuchillo y en seguida partieron los dos. Entonces Isaac dijo a Abraham: “Padre mío.” Le respondió: “¿Qué hay, hijito?” Prosiguió Isaac: “Llevamos el fuego y la leña, pero, ¿dónde está el cordero para el sacrificio?” Abraham le respondió: “Dios mismo proveerá el cordero, hijo mío.” Y continuaron juntos el camino. Al llegar al lugar que Dios le había indicado, Abraham levantó un altar y puso la leña sobre él. Luego ató a su hijo Isaac y lo colocó sobre la leña. Extendió después su mano y tomó el cuchillo para degollar a su hijo, pero el Ángel de Dios lo llamó desde el cielo y le dijo: “Abraham, Abraham.” Contestó él: “Aquí estoy.” “No toques al niño, ni le hagas nada, pues ahora veo que temes a Dios, ya que no me has negado a tu hijo, el único que tienes.” Abraham miró a su alrededor, y vio cerca de él a un carnero que tenía los cuernos enredados en un zarzal. Fue a buscarlo y lo ofreció en sacrificio en lugar de su hijo. Abraham llamó a aquel lugar “El Señor provee”. Y todavía hoy la gente dice: “En ese monte, el Señor provee.” Volvió a llamar el Ángel de Dios a Abraham desde el cielo, y le dijo: “Juro por mí mismo palabra del Señor que, ya que has hecho esto y no me has negado a tu hijo, el único que tienes, te colmaré de bendiciones y multiplicaré tanto tus descendientes, que serán tan numerosos como las estrellas del cielo o como la arena que hay a orillas del mar. Tus descendientes se impondrán a sus enemigos. Y porque has obedecido a mi voz, todos los pueblos de la tierra serán bendecidos a través de tu descendencia.”

      Una lectura del libro del Éxodo.
      El Señor dijo a Moisés: “¿Por qué clamas a mí? Di a los hijos de Israel que se pongan en marcha. Luego levanta tu bastón, extiende tu mano sobre el mar y divídelo, para que los hijos de Israel pasen en seco por medio del mar. Yo, mientras tanto, endureceré el corazón de los egipcios para que salgan en persecución de ustedes, y me haré famoso a costa de Faraón y de todo su ejército, de sus carros y de su caballería. Entonces Egipto conocerá que yo soy el Señor.” El Ángel de Dios que iba delante de los israelitas pasó detrás de ellos; también la nube en forma de columna vino a colocarse detrás, poniéndose entre el campo de los israelitas y el de los egipcios. Esta nube era para unos tinieblas y para otros iluminaba la noche; y no se acercaron los unos a los otros durante la noche. Moisés extendió su mano sobre el mar y el Señor hizo soplar durante toda la noche un fuerte viento del oriente que secó el mar. Se dividieron las aguas. Los israelitas pasaron en seco, por medio del mar; las aguas les hacían de murallas a izquierda y a derecha. Los egipcios se lanzaron a perseguirlos, y todo el ejército de Faraón entró en medio del mar con sus carros y caballos. Llegada la madrugada, el Señor miró a los egipcios desde el fuego y la nube, y provocó el desorden en el ejército de Faraón. Atascó las ruedas de sus carros, que no podían avanzar sino con gran dificultad. Entonces los egipcios dijeron: “Huyamos de Israel, porque el Señor pelea con ellos contra nosotros.” Pero el Señor dijo a Moisés: “Extiende tu mano sobre el mar, y las aguas volverán sobre los egipcios, sus carros y sus caballos.” Moisés extendió su mano sobre el mar. Al amanecer, el mar volvió a su lugar. Mientras los egipcios trataban de huir, el Señor arrojó a los egipcios en el mar. Las aguas al volver cubrieron los carros y los que los montaban, o sea, todo el ejército de Faraón que había entrado en el mar persiguiéndolos: no se escapó ni uno solo. Los israelitas, en cambio, habían pasado en medio del mar; las aguas les hacían de murallas a derecha e izquierda. Aquel día, el Señor liberó a Israel del poder de los egipcios; e Israel vio a los egipcios muertos en la orilla del mar. Israel vio los prodigios que el Señor había obrado contra Egipto, y el pueblo temió al Señor. Creyó en el Señor y en Moisés, su siervo. Entonces Moisés y los hijos de Israel cantaron este cántico al Señor: “Cantaré al Señor, que se ha cubierto de gloria; caballos y carros ha arrojado en el mar.”

      Pues ahora te desposa tu creador, el Señor de los Ejércitos es su nombre. El que te rescata es el Santo de Israel, quien se llama Dios de toda la tierra. Sí, el Señor te llama como a la esposa abandonada, que se encuentra afligida. ¿Se puede rechazar la esposa que uno toma siendo joven? Dice tu Dios. Te había abandonado un momento, pero con inmensa piedad yo te vengo a reunir. En unos momentos de ira te oculté mi rostro, pero con amor que no tiene fin me apiado de ti, dice el Señor, que te viene a rescatar. Voy a hacer como en el diluvio de Noé, cuando juré que las aguas no pasarían más sobre la tierra. Así, juro yo no enojarme más contigo ni amenazarte nunca más. Los cerros podrán correrse y bambolearse las lomas; mas yo no retiraré mi amor, y mi alianza de paz contigo no se bamboleará, dice el Señor, que se compadece de ti. ¡Pobrecilla, azotada por la tempestad y sin consuelo! Yo asentaré tus muros sobre piedras preciosas, y serán tus cimientos de zafiro. Haré tus murallas de rubíes, tus puertas de cristal, y todo tu contorno de piedras preciosas. Todos tus hijos serán instruidos por el Señor, te mantendrás firme por la justicia y no tendrás que temer la opresión; el terror no se te acercará.

Si ustedes me hacen caso, comerán cosas ricas y su paladar se deleitará con comidas exquisitas. Atiéndanme y acérquense a mí, escúchenme y su alma vivirá. Voy a hacer con ustedes una alianza para siempre, para darles los bienes que tengo prometidos a David. Mira, lo había puesto como un testigo para varios pueblos, como un jefe para mandar a las naciones. Así, tú ahora vas a llamar a una nación que no conocías, una nación que no te conocía correrá por verte. Esto será nada más que por el Señor, tu Dios, por el Santo de Israel, que te ha puesto arriba. Busquen al Señor ahora que lo pueden encontrar, llámenlo ahora que está cerca. Que el malvado deje sus caminos, y el criminal sus proyectos; vuélvanse al Señor, que tendrá piedad de ellos, a nuestro Dios, que está siempre dispuesto a perdonar. Como baja la lluvia y la nieve de los cielos y no vuelven allá sin haber empapado la tierra, sin haberla fecundado y haberla hecho germinar, para que dé la simiente para sembrar y el pan para comer, así será la palabra que salga de mi boca. No volverá a mí con las manos vacías sino después de haber hecho lo que yo quería, y haber llevado a cabo lo que le encargué.

      Escucha, Israel, los mandamientos de vida; presta atención para aprender a discernir. ¿Por qué, Israel, estás en un país de enemigos y has envejecido en una tierra extranjera? ¿Por qué te has contaminado con los muertos, contándote entre los que bajan al Abismo? ¡Tú has abandonado la fuente de la sabiduría! Si hubieras seguido el camino de Dios, vivirías en paz para siempre. Aprende dónde está el discernimiento, dónde está la fuerza y dónde la inteligencia, para conocer al mismo tiempo dónde está la longevidad y la vida, dónde la luz de los ojos y la paz. ¿Quién ha encontrado el lugar de la Sabiduría, quién ha penetrado en sus tesoros? Pero el que todo lo sabe, la conoce, la penetró con su inteligencia; el que formó la tierra para siempre, y la llenó de animales cuadrúpedos; el que envía la luz, y ella sale, la llama, y ella obedece temblando. Las estrellas brillan alegres en sus puestos de guardia: él las llama, y ellas responden: “Aquí estamos,” y brillan alegremente para aquel que las creó. ¡Este es nuestro Dios, ningún otro cuenta al lado de él! Él penetró todos los caminos de la ciencia y se la dio a Jacob, su servidor, y a Israel, su predilecto. Después de esto apareció sobre la tierra, y vivió entre los hombres. Entonces decidí desatar contra ellos mi cólera, los dispersé por entre las naciones, los desparramé entre los países; los juzgué de acuerdo a su conducta y a sus acciones. Y así llegaron a las naciones. Pero allí también fue profanado mi nombre.” En efecto se decía: “Este es el pueblo de Yahvé que tuvo que salir de su país.” Entonces salí en defensa de mi Nombre, porque éste había sido profanado en las naciones donde se encontraba Israel y por culpa de éste.” Por eso le dirás esta palabra de Yahvé a la casa de Israel: “no es por ustedes que hago esto, casa de Israel, sino por mi santo Nombre que por culpa de ustedes fue profanado en las naciones donde estaban. Santificaré mi nombre que fue profanado en las naciones y ustedes fueron los que lo hicieron despreciable. Las naciones sabrán que yo soy Yahvé cuando, por medio de ustedes, aparezca ante sus ojos mi santidad. Los sacaré de las naciones, los reuniré de entre los pueblos y los traeré de vuelta a su tierra. Los rociaré con un agua pura y quedarán purificados; los purificaré de todas sus impurezas y de todos sus inmundos ídolos. Les daré un corazón nuevo y pondré dentro de ustedes un espíritu nuevo. Quitaré de su carne ese corazón de piedra y les daré un corazón de carne. Pondré dentro de ustedes mi Espíritu y haré que caminen según mis mandamientos, que observen mis leyes y que las pongan en práctica. Vivirán en el país que di a sus padres, ustedes serán mi pueblo y yo seré su Dios.

      Pasado el sábado, María Magdalena, María la madre de Santiago, y Salomé compraron perfumes para perfumar el cuerpo de Jesús. Y el primer día de la semana fueron al sepulcro muy temprano, apenas salido el sol, diciéndose unas a otras: “¿Quién nos quitará la piedra de la entrada del sepulcro?” Pero al mirar vieron que la gran piedra que tapaba la entrada no estaba en su sitio. Y al entrar en el sepulcro vieron, sentado al lado derecho, a un joven vestido con una túnica blanca. Las mujeres se asustaron, pero él les dijo: “No se asusten. Están buscando a Jesús de Nazaret, el crucificado. Ha resucitado; no está aquí. Miren el lugar donde lo pusieron. Vayan y digan a sus discípulos y a Pedro: ‘Él va a ir a Galilea antes que ustedes. Allí le verán, tal como les dijo.’” Entonces las mujeres salieron huyendo del sepulcro, pues estaban temblando, asustadas. Y no dijeron nada a nadie, porque tenían miedo.

Sinabi ng Diyos: “Magkaroon sa tubig ng maraming bagay na may buhay, at magkaroon din ng mga ibon sa himpapawid.” Nilikha ng Diyos ang mga dambuhala sa dagat, at lahat ng bagay na nabubuhay sa tubig, gayundin ang lahat ng uri ng ibon. Nasiyahan ang Diyos nang ito'y mamasdan. Pinagpala niya ang mga ito at sinabi: “Magpakarami ang lahat ng bagay na nabubuhay sa tubig at punuin ang karagatan; magpakarami rin ang mga ibon at punuin ang daigdig.” Lumipas ang gabi, at sumapit ang umaga—iyon ang ikalimang araw. Sinabi ng Diyos: “Magkaroon ng lahat ng uri ng hayop sa lupa—maaamo, maiilap, malalaki at maliliit.” At gayon nga ang nangyari. Ginawa nga niya ang lahat ng ito, at nasiyahan siya nang ito'y kanyang mamasdan. Pagkatapos, sinabi ng Diyos: “Ngayon, likhain natin ang tao ayon sa ating larawan, ayon sa ating wangis. Sila ang mamamahala sa mga isda, sa mga ibon sa himpapawid at sa lahat ng hayop, maging maamo o mailap, malaki o maliit.” Nilalang nga ng Diyos ang tao ayon sa kanyang larawan. Pinagmasdan ng Diyos ang lahat niyang ginawa, at lubos siyang nasiyahan. Lumipas ang gabi, at sumapit ang umaga—iyon ang ikaanim na araw. Nilikha nga ng Diyos ang langit at ang lupa at ang lahat ng bagay na naroroon. Tinapos niyang likhain ang lahat ng ito sa loob ng anim na araw, at siya'y nagpahinga sa ikapitong araw.

      Pagkalipas ng ilang panahon, sinubok ng Diyos si Abraham. Tinawag siya ng Diyos, “Abraham!” “Narito po ako,” tugon naman niya. Sinabi sa kanya, “Isama mo ang kaisa-isa at pinakamamahal mong anak na si Isaac, at magpunta kayo sa lupain ng Moria. Umakyat kayo sa bundok na ituturo ko sa iyo, at ihandog mo siya sa akin.” Kinabukasan, maagang bumangon si Abraham at nagsibak ng kahoy na gagamiting panggatong sa handog na susunugin. Inihanda niya ang asno, at umalis kasama si Isaac at ang dalawang aliping lalaki papunta sa lugar na sinabi ng Diyos sa kanya. Nang ikatlong araw ng paglalakbay, natanaw na nila ang dakong kanilang pupuntahan. Kaya't sinabi ni Abraham sa kanyang mga alipin, “Bantayan ninyo rito ang asno at kami na lamang ng bata ang aakyat sa bundok. Sasamba kami sa dako roon, at babalikan namin kayo.” Ipinapasan ni Abraham kay Isaac ang kahoy na panggatong. Dala naman niya ang apoy at patalim, at magkasama silang lumakad. Tinawag ni Isaac ang pansin ng ama, “Ama!” “Ano iyon, anak?” tugon ni Abraham. “Mayroon na tayong apoy at panggatong, ngunit nasaan ang tupang ihahandog?” tanong ni Isaac. Sumagot si Abraham, “Anak, ang Diyos ang magbibigay niyon.” Kaya't nagpatuloy sila sa paglakad. Pagsapit nila sa lugar na itinuro ng Diyos, gumawa ng altar si Abraham. Inayos niya sa ibabaw nito ang panggatong at inihiga si Isaac matapos gapusin. Nang sasaksakin na niya ang bata, tinawag siya ng anghel ng Panginoon at mula sa langit ay sinabi, “Abraham, Abraham!” “Narito po ako,” sagot ni Abraham. Sinabi ng anghel, “Huwag mong patayin ang bata. Huwag mo siyang saktan! Natitiyak ko ngayong handa kang sumunod sa Diyos, sapagkat hindi mo ipinagkait sa kanya ang kaisa-isa mong anak.” Paglingon niya'y may nakita siyang isang lalaking tupa na ang mga sungay ay napasabit sa mga sanga ng kahoy. Ito ang kinuha ni Abraham at inihandog sa halip na ang kanyang anak. Kaya't ang lugar na iyon ay tinawag ni Abraham na, “Ang Panginoon ang Nagkakaloob.” At magpahanggang ngayon, sinasabi ng mga tao, “Sa bundok ng Panginoon ay may nakalaan.” Mula sa langit, nagsalitang muli kay Abraham ang anghel ng Panginoon, “Ako'y nangangako sa pamamagitan ng aking pangalan—Panginoon. Sapagkat hindi mo ipinagkait sa akin ang kaisa-isa mong anak, pagpapalain kita. Ang lahi mo'y magiging sindami ng bituin sa langit at ng buhangin sa dagat. Sasakupin nila ang mga lunsod ng kanilang mga kaaway. Sa pamamagitan ng iyong lahi, pagpapalain ang lahat ng bansa sa daigdig sapagkat sinunod mo ang aking utos.”

      Sinabi ng Panginoon kay Moises, “Bakit mo ako tinatawag? Palakarin mo ang mga Israelita. Itapat mo sa ibabaw ng dagat ang iyong tungkod; mahahati ang tubig at matutuyo ang lalakaran ninyo. Lalo kong pagmamatigasin ang mga Egipcio at pasusundan ko kayo sa kanila, ngunit doon ko sila lilipulin: ang mga Egipcio, ang mga kawal ng Faraon, pati ang kanilang mga karwahe. Ipapakita ko sa Faraon at sa kanyang hukbo ang aking kapangyarihan. Sa gayon, malalaman ng mga Egipciong iyan na ako ang Panginoon.” Ang anghel ng Diyos na pumapatnubay sa paglalakbay ng mga Israelita ay nagpahuli sa kanila, gayundin ang haliging ulap. Ang ulap ay lumagay sa pagitan ng mga Israelita at ng mga Egipcio. Madilim sa panig ng mga Egipcio, maliwanag naman sa mga Israelita. Dumating ang gabi at ang mga Egipcio ay hindi makalapit sa mga Israelita. Itinapat ni Moises ang kanyang tungkod sa ibabaw ng dagat. Magdamag na pinaihip ng Panginoon ang isang malakas na hangin mula sa silangan at nahati ang tubig. Ang mga Israelita'y tumawid sa dagat na ang nilakara'y tuyong lupa, sa pagitan ng tubig na parang pader. Hinabol sila ng mga Egipcio hanggang sa dagat. Ang mga ito'y mga kawal ng Faraon na nakasakay sa mga karwahe at mga kabayo. Nang magbubukang-liwayway na, ang mga Egipcio'y ginulo ng Panginoon mula sa haliging apoy at ulap. Napabaon ang gulong ng mga karwahe at hindi na sila makahabol nang matulin. Kaya sinabi nila, “Umalis na tayo rito sapagkat ang Panginoon na ang kalaban natin.” Sinabi ng Panginoon kay Moises, “Itapat mo ang iyong tungkod sa ibabaw ng dagat at tatabunan ng tubig ang mga Egipcio pati ang kanilang mga karwahe.” Ganoon nga ang ginawa ni Moises, at sa pagbubukang-liwayway, nanumbalik sa dati ang dagat. Ang mga Egipcio'y nagsikap makatakas ngunit pinalakas ng Panginoon ang pagdagsa ng tubig kaya't nalunod silang lahat. Nang bumalik sa dati ang dagat, natabunan ang mga karwahe't kabayo ng Faraon, pati ang kanyang buong hukbo at wala ni isa mang natira. Ngunit ang mga Israelita'y nakatawid sa dagat, na tuyong lupa ang dinaanan, sa pagitan ng tubig na parang pader. Nang araw na iyon ang mga Israelita'y iniligtas ng Panginoon sa mga Egipcio; nakita nila ang bangkay ng mga Egipcio, nagkalat sa tabing dagat. Dahil sa kapangyarihang ipinakita ng Panginoon laban sa mga Egipcio, nagkaroon sila ng takot sa kanya at sumampalataya sila sa kanya at sa lingkod niyang si Moises. Ito ang inawit ni Moises at ng mga Israelita para sa Panginoon: “Itong ang Panginoon ay aking aawitan, sa kanyang kinamtang dakilang tagumpay; ang mga kabayo't kawal ng kaaway, sa pusod ng dagat, lahat natabunan.”

      Sapagkat ang Lumalang sa iyo ay ang asawa mo, ang pangalan niya'y Panginoon na Makapangyarihan sa lahat. Ang tagapagligtas mo ay ang Banal na Diyos ng Israel, kung tawagin siya'y Diyos ng buong sanlibutan. Israel, ang katulad mo'y asawang iniwan at ngayo'y nagdurusa, isang babaing maagang nag-asawa at pagkatapos ay itinakwil. Ngunit pinababalik ka ngayon ng Panginoon at sa iyo'y sinasabi, “Sandaling panahon kitang iniwanan; ngunit dahil sa tapat kong pag-ibig, muli kitang kakalingain. Sa tindi ng aking galit, sandali akong lumayo sa iyo, ngunit ipadarama ko sa iyo ang aking kahabagan sa pamamagitan ng pag-ibig na wagas.” Iyan ang sabi ng Panginoon na magliligtas sa iyo. “Noong panahon ni Noe, ako ay sumumpang hindi na mauulit na ang mundong ito'y gunawin sa tubig. Aking ipinapangako ngayon, hindi na ako magagalit sa iyo, at hindi na kita paparusahan muli. Maguguho ang mga bundok at ang mga burol ay mayayanig, ngunit ang wagas na pag-ibig ko'y hindi maglalaho, at mananatili ang kapayapaang aking ipinangako.” Iyan ang sinasabi ng Panginoon, na nagmamahal sa iyo. Sinabi ng Panginoon, “O Jerusalem, nagdurusang lunsod na walang umaliw sa kapighatian. Muling itatayo ang mga pundasyon mo, ang gagamitin ko'y mamahaling bato. Rubi ang gagamitin sa iyong mga tore, batong maningning ang iyong pintuan at sa mga pader ay mga hiyas na makinang. Ako mismo ang magtuturo sa iyong mga anak. Sila'y magiging payapa at uunlad ang buhay. Patatatagin ka ng katuwiran, magiging ligtas ka sa mga mananakop, at wala kang katatakutang anuman.”

Bumili kayo ng alak at gatas kahit walang salaping pambayad. Bakit gumugugol kayo ng salapi sa mga bagay na hindi nakakabusog? Bakit ninyo inuubos ang perang kinita sa mga bagay na sa inyo ay hindi nagbibigay kasiyahan? Makinig kayong mabuti sa akin at sundin ang utos ko, at matitikman ninyo ang pinakamasasarap na pagkain. Makinig kayo at lumapit sa akin. Sundin ninyo ako at magkakaroon kayo ng buhay! Isang walang hanggang kasunduan ang gagawin natin; pagtitibayin ko ang aking walang hanggang pag-ibig kay David. Masdan ninyo! Ginawa ko siyang saksi sa mga bansa, pinuno at tagapagmana sa mga bayan. Iyong tatawagin ang mga bansang hindi mo kilala, mga bansang hindi ka kilala'y sa iyo pupunta. Darating sila alang-alang sa iyong Diyos na ang Panginoon, ang Banal na Diyos ng Israel, sapagkat pinaparangalan ka niya.” Hanapin mo ang Panginoon habang siya'y matatagpuan, manalangin ka sa kanya habang siya'y malapit pa. Dapat nang talikuran ang mga gawain ng taong masama, at dapat magbago ng pag-iisip ang taong liko. Sila'y dapat manumbalik, at lumapit sa Panginoon upang kahabagan; at mula sa Diyos, makakamit nila ang kapatawaran. Ang sabi ng Panginoon, “Ang aking kaisipa'y hindi ninyo kaisipan, ang inyong kaparaanan ay hindi ko kaparaanan. Kung paanong ang langit ay mas mataas kaysa lupa, ang aking kaparaanan ay higit kaysa inyong kaparaanan, at ang aking kaisipan ay hindi maaabot ng inyong kaisipan. “Ang ulan at yelo na bumabagsak mula sa langit ay hindi na nagbabalik, kundi dinidilig nito ang lupa, kaya lumalago ang mga halaman at namumunga at nagbibigay ng butil na panghasik, at tinapay upang maging pagkain. Gayundin naman ang mga salita na lumalabas sa aking bibig, ang mga ito'y hindi babalik sa akin na walang katuturan. Tutuparin nito ang aking mga balak, at gagawin nito ang aking ninanais.”

      Dinggin mo, Israel, ang mga kautusang nagbibigay-buhay; makinig ka at nang ikaw ay matuto. Israel, bakit ka nasa lupain ng iyong mga kaaway? Bakit ka tumanda sa ibang lupain? Bakit itinakwil kang parang patay at ibinilang na sa mga nasa Hades? Nangyari ito sapagkat itinakwil mo ang bukal ng Karunungan. Kung lumakad ka lang sa landas ng Diyos, sana'y namumuhay kang matiwasay sa habang panahon. Hanapin mo ang bukal ng pang-unawa, lakas at kaalaman, at malalaman mo kung nasaan ang mahabang buhay, ang liwanag na sa iyo'y papatnubay, at ang kapayapaan. May nakatuklas na ba kung saan nakatira ang Karunungan, o nakapasok sa kanyang taguan ng yaman? Ang Diyos na nakakaalam ng lahat ng bagay ang tanging nakakakilala sa Karunungan. Nauunawaan din niya ito sa pamamagitan ng kanyang kaalaman. Siya ang lumikha at naglagay dito ng lahat ng uri ng mga hayop. Mapalad tayo, mga Israelita, sapagkat alam natin kung ano ang nakalulugod sa Diyos.

Itinapon ko sila at pinangalat sa iba't ibang panig ng daigdig. Ginawa ko sa kanila ang nararapat sa kanila. Ngunit sa mga lugar na kinapuntahan nila, binigyang-daan nila ang mga tao upang hamakin ang aking pangalan. Sinabi ng mga tao sa kanila, ‘Hindi ba sila'y mga mamamayan ng Panginoon, bakit pinaalis sa kanilang bayan?’ Nabahala ako dahil sa banal kong pangalan na ipinahamak ng mga Israelita sa mga dakong kinapuntahan nila. “Kaya, sabihin mo sa Israel na ito ang ipinapasabi ko: Lahat ng ginagawa ko ay hindi dahil sa inyo, mga Israelita, kundi dahil sa banal kong pangalan na inyong hinayaang hamakin sa mga lugar na pinagtapunan ko sa inyo. Ipapakita ko ang kabanalan ng dakila kong pangalan na nalapastangan sa harap ng mga bansa. Makikilala ng lahat na ako ang Panginoon kung maipakita ko na sa kanila na ako ay banal. Titipunin ko kayo mula sa iba't ibang bansa upang ibalik sa inyong bayan. Wiwisikan ko kayo ng tubig na dalisay upang kayo'y luminis. Aalisin ko rin ang naging mantsa ninyo dahil sa inyong mga diyus-diyosan. Bibigyan ko kayo ng bagong puso at bagong espiritu. Ang masuwayin ninyong puso ay gagawin kong pusong masunurin. Bibigyan ko kayo ng aking Espiritu upang makalakad kayo ayon sa aking mga tuntunin at masunod ninyong mabuti ang aking mga utos. Ititira ko kayo sa lupaing ibinigay ko sa inyong mga ninuno. Kayo ay magiging bayan ko at ako ang inyong Diyos.”

Sapagkat ang namatay na ay pinalaya mula sa kapangyarihan ng kasalanan. Kung tayo'y namatay nang kasama ni Cristo, naniniwala tayong mabubuhay rin tayong kasama niya. Alam nating si Cristo na muling binuhay ay hindi na muling mamamatay. Wala nang kapangyarihan sa kanya ang kamatayan. Nang siya'y mamatay, namatay siya nang minsanan para sa lahat ng panahon dahil sa kasalanan; at ang buhay niya ngayon ay para sa Diyos. Kaya dapat din ninyong ituring ang inyong sarili bilang patay na sa kasalanan ngunit buháy para sa Diyos, sapagkat kayo'y nakipag-isa na kay Cristo Jesus.

      Pagkaraan ng Araw ng Pamamahinga, si Maria Magdalena, si Maria na ina ni Santiago at si Salome ay bumili ng pabango upang sila ay magpunta sa libingan at lagyan ng pabango ang bangkay ni Jesus. Kinaumagahan ng Linggo, sa pagsikat ng araw, sila'y nagpunta sa libingan. Ngunit sila ay nagtanong sa isa't isa, “Sino kaya ang maaari nating mapakiusapang maggulong ng batong nakatakip sa pintuan ng libingan?” Nasabi nila iyon dahil napakalaki ng bato. Ngunit nang matanaw nila ito, nakita nilang naigulong na ang bato. At pagpasok nila sa libingan, may nakita silang isang binatang nakasuot ng mahaba at maputing damit, at nakaupo sa gawing kanan. At sila'y natakot. Ngunit sinabi nito sa kanila, “Huwag kayong matakot. Hinahanap ninyo si Jesus na taga-Nazaret na ipinako sa krus. Wala na siya rito; siya'y binuhay ng Diyos! Tingnan ninyo ang pinaglagyan sa kanya. Bumalik kayo at sabihin ninyo sa kanyang mga alagad at kay Pedro, ‘Mauuna siya sa inyo sa Galilea. Makikita ninyo siya roon, gaya ng sinabi niya sa inyo.’” Lumabas sila ng libingan at patakbong umalis na nanginginig at litung-lito. At dahil sa matinding takot, wala silang sinabi kaninuman.

Berfirmanlah Allah: "Jadilah terang." Lalu terang itu jadi. Allah melihat bahwa terang itu baik, lalu dipisahkan-Nyalah terang itu dari gelap. Dan Allah menamai terang itu siang, dan gelap itu malam. Jadilah petang dan jadilah pagi, itulah hari pertama. Berfirmanlah Allah: "Jadilah cakrawala di tengah segala air untuk memisahkan air dari air." Biarlah benda-benda penerang itu menjadi tanda yang menunjukkan masa-masa yang tetap dan hari-hari dan tahun-tahun, dan sebagai penerang pada cakrawala biarlah benda-benda itu menerangi bumi." Dan jadilah demikian. Maka Allah menjadikan kedua benda penerang yang besar itu, yakni yang lebih besar untuk menguasai siang dan yang lebih kecil untuk menguasai malam, dan menjadikan juga bintang-bintang. Allah menaruh semuanya itu di cakrawala untuk menerangi bumi, dan untuk menguasai siang dan malam, dan untuk memisahkan terang dari gelap. Allah melihat bahwa semuanya itu baik. Jadilah petang dan jadilah pagi, itulah hari keempat. Berfirmanlah Allah: "Hendaklah dalam air berkeriapan makhluk yang hidup, dan hendaklah burung beterbangan di atas bumi melintasi cakrawala." Maka Allah menciptakan binatang-binatang laut yang besar dan segala jenis makhluk hidup yang bergerak, yang berkeriapan dalam air, dan segala jenis burung yang bersayap. Allah melihat bahwa semuanya itu baik. Lalu Allah memberkati semuanya itu, firman-Nya: "Berkembangbiaklah dan bertambah banyaklah serta penuhilah air dalam laut, dan hendaklah burung-burung di bumi bertambah banyak." Berfirmanlah Allah: "Baiklah Kita menjadikan manusia menurut gambar dan rupa Kita, supaya mereka berkuasa atas ikan-ikan di laut dan burung-burung di udara dan atas ternak dan atas seluruh bumi dan atas segala binatang melata yang merayap di bumi." Maka Allah menciptakan manusia itu menurut gambar-Nya, menurut gambar Allah diciptakan-Nya dia; laki-laki dan perempuan diciptakan-Nya mereka. Allah memberkati mereka, lalu Allah berfirman kepada mereka: "Beranakcuculah dan bertambah banyak; penuhilah bumi dan taklukkanlah itu, berkuasalah atas ikan-ikan di laut dan burung-burung di udara dan atas segala binatang yang merayap di bumi." Berfirmanlah Allah: "Lihatlah, Aku memberikan kepadamu segala tumbuh-tumbuhan yang berbiji di seluruh bumi dan segala pohon-pohonan yang buahnya berbiji; itulah akan menjadi makananmu. Tetapi kepada segala binatang di bumi dan segala burung di udara dan segala yang merayap di bumi, yang bernyawa, Kuberikan segala tumbuh-tumbuhan hijau menjadi makanannya." Dan jadilah demikian. Maka Allah melihat segala yang dijadikan-Nya itu, sungguh amat baik. Jadilah petang dan jadilah pagi, itulah hari keenam. Demikianlah diselesaikan langit dan bumi dan segala isinya. Ketika Allah pada hari ketujuh telah menyelesaikan pekerjaan yang dibuat-Nya itu, berhentilah Ia pada hari ketujuh dari segala pekerjaan yang telah dibuat-Nya itu.

    3. Bacaan kedua (Kejadian 22: 1–18)
      Pembacaan dari kitab Kejadian.
      Setelah semuanya itu Allah mencoba Abraham. Ia berfirman kepadanya: "Abraham," lalu sahutnya: "Ya, Tuhan." Firman-Nya: "Ambillah anakmu yang tunggal itu, yang engkau kasihi, yakni Ishak, pergilah ke tanah Moria dan persembahkanlah dia di sana sebagai korban bakaran pada salah satu gunung yang akan Kukatakan kepadamu." Keesokan harinya pagi-pagi bangunlah Abraham, ia memasang pelana keledainya dan memanggil dua orang bujangnya beserta Ishak, anaknya; ia membelah juga kayu untuk korban bakaran itu, lalu berangkatlah ia dan pergi ke tempat yang dikatakan Allah kepadanya. Ketika pada hari ketiga Abraham melayangkan pandangnya, kelihatanlah kepadanya tempat itu dari jauh. Kata Abraham kepada kedua bujangnya itu: "Tinggallah kamu di sini dengan keledai ini; aku beserta anak ini akan pergi ke sana; kami akan sembahyang, sesudah itu kami kembali kepadamu." Lalu Abraham mengambil kayu untuk korban bakaran itu dan memikulkannya ke atas bahu Ishak, anaknya, sedang di tangannya dibawanya api dan pisau. Demikianlah keduanya berjalan bersama-sama. Lalu berkatalah Ishak kepada Abraham, ayahnya: "Bapa." Sahut Abraham: "Ya, anakku." Bertanyalah ia: "Di sini sudah ada api dan kayu, tetapi di manakah anak domba untuk korban bakaran itu?" Sahut Abraham: "Allah yang akan menyediakan anak domba untuk korban bakaran bagi-Nya, anakku." Demikianlah keduanya berjalan bersama-sama. Sampailah mereka ke tempat yang dikatakan Allah kepadanya. Lalu Abraham mendirikan mezbah di situ, disusunnyalah kayu, diikatnya Ishak, anaknya itu, dan diletakkannya di mezbah itu, di atas kayu api. Sesudah itu Abraham mengulurkan tangannya, lalu mengambil pisau untuk menyembelih anaknya. Tetapi berserulah Malaikat TUHAN dari langit kepadanya: "Abraham, Abraham." Sahutnya: "Ya, Tuhan." Lalu Ia berfirman: "Jangan bunuh anak itu dan jangan kauapa-apakan dia, sebab telah Kuketahui sekarang, bahwa engkau takut akan Allah, dan engkau tidak segan-segan untuk menyerahkan anakmu yang tunggal kepada-Ku." Lalu Abraham menoleh dan melihat seekor domba jantan di belakangnya, yang tanduknya tersangkut dalam belukar. Abraham mengambil domba itu, lalu mengorbankannya sebagai korban bakaran pengganti anaknya. Dan Abraham menamai tempat itu: "TUHAN menyediakan"; sebab itu sampai sekarang dikatakan orang: "Di atas gunung TUHAN, akan disediakan." Untuk kedua kalinya berserulah Malaikat TUHAN dari langit kepada Abraham, kata-Nya: "Aku bersumpah demi diri-Ku sendiri — demikianlah firman TUHAN —: Karena engkau telah berbuat demikian, dan engkau tidak segan-segan untuk menyerahkan anakmu yang tunggal kepada-Ku, maka Aku akan memberkati engkau berlimpah-limpah dan membuat keturunanmu sangat banyak seperti bintang di langit dan seperti pasir di tepi laut, dan keturunanmu itu akan menduduki kota-kota musuhnya. Oleh keturunanmulah semua bangsa di bumi akan mendapat berkat, karena engkau mendengarkan firman-Ku."

    4. Bacaan ketiga (Keluaran 14:15 – 15:1)
      Pembacaan dari kitab Keluaran.
      Berfirmanlah TUHAN kepada Musa: "Mengapakah engkau berseru-seru demikian kepada-Ku? Katakanlah kepada orang Israel, supaya mereka berangkat. Dan engkau, angkatlah tongkatmu dan ulurkanlah tanganmu ke atas laut dan belahlah airnya, sehingga orang Israel akan berjalan dari tengah-tengah laut di tempat kering. Tetapi sungguh Aku akan mengeraskan hati orang Mesir, sehingga mereka menyusul orang Israel, dan terhadap Firaun dan seluruh pasukannya, keretanya dan orangnya yang berkuda, Aku akan menyatakan kemuliaan-Ku. Maka orang Mesir akan mengetahui, bahwa Akulah TUHAN, apabila Aku memperlihatkan kemuliaan-Ku terhadap Firaun, keretanya dan orangnya yang berkuda." Kemudian bergeraklah Malaikat Allah, yang tadinya berjalan di depan tentara Israel, lalu berjalan di belakang mereka; dan tiang awan itu bergerak dari depan mereka, lalu berdiri di belakang mereka. Demikianlah tiang itu berdiri di antara tentara orang Mesir dan tentara orang Israel; dan oleh karena awan itu menimbulkan kegelapan, maka malam itu lewat, sehingga yang satu tidak dapat mendekati yang lain, semalam-malaman itu. Lalu Musa mengulurkan tangannya ke atas laut, dan semalam-malaman itu TUHAN menguakkan air laut dengan perantaraan angin timur yang keras, membuat laut itu menjadi tanah kering; maka terbelahlah air itu. Demikianlah orang Israel berjalan dari tengah-tengah laut di tempat kering; sedang di kiri dan di kanan mereka air itu sebagai tembok bagi mereka. Orang Mesir mengejar dan menyusul mereka — segala kuda Firaun, keretanya dan orangnya yang berkuda — sampai ke tengah-tengah laut. Dan pada waktu jaga pagi, TUHAN yang di dalam tiang api dan awan itu memandang kepada tentara orang Mesir, lalu dikacaukan-Nya tentara orang Mesir itu. Ia membuat roda keretanya berjalan miring dan maju dengan berat, sehingga orang Mesir berkata: "Marilah kita lari meninggalkan orang Israel, sebab TUHANlah yang berperang untuk mereka melawan Mesir." Berfirmanlah TUHAN kepada Musa: "Ulurkanlah tanganmu ke atas laut, supaya air berbalik meliputi orang Mesir, meliputi kereta mereka dan orang mereka yang berkuda." Musa mengulurkan tangannya ke atas laut, maka menjelang pagi berbaliklah air laut ke tempatnya, sedang orang Mesir lari menuju air itu; demikianlah TUHAN mencampakkan orang Mesir ke tengah-tengah laut. Berbaliklah segala air itu, lalu menutupi kereta dan orang berkuda dari seluruh pasukan Firaun, yang telah menyusul orang Israel itu ke laut; seorang pun tidak ada yang tinggal dari mereka. Tetapi orang Israel berjalan di tempat kering dari tengah-tengah laut, sedang di kiri dan di kanan mereka air itu sebagai tembok bagi mereka. Demikianlah pada hari itu TUHAN menyelamatkan orang Israel dari tangan orang Mesir. Dan orang Israel melihat orang Mesir mati terhantar di pantai laut. Ketika dilihat oleh orang Israel, betapa besarnya perbuatan yang dilakukan TUHAN terhadap orang Mesir, maka takutlah bangsa itu kepada TUHAN dan mereka percaya kepada TUHAN dan kepada Musa, hamba-Nya itu. Pada waktu itu Musa bersama-sama dengan orang Israel menyanyikan nyanyian ini bagi TUHAN yang berbunyi: Baiklah aku menyanyi bagi TUHAN, sebab Ia tinggi luhur, kuda dan penunggangnya dilemparkan-Nya ke dalam laut.

    5. Bacaan keempat (Yesaya 54: 5–14)
      Pembacaan dari kitab nabi Yesaya.
      Sebab yang menjadi suamimu ialah Dia yang menjadikan engkau, TUHAN semesta alam nama-Nya; yang menjadi Penebusmu ialah Yang Mahakudus, Allah Israel, Ia disebut Allah seluruh bumi. Sebab seperti isteri yang ditinggalkan dan yang bersusah hati TUHAN memanggil engkau kembali; masakan isteri dari masa muda akan tetap ditolak? firman Allahmu. Hanya sesaat lamanya Aku meninggalkan engkau, tetapi karena kasih sayang yang besar Aku mengambil engkau kembali. Dalam murka yang meluap Aku telah menyembunyikan wajah-Ku terhadap engkau sesaat lamanya, tetapi dalam kasih setia abadi Aku telah mengasihani engkau, firman TUHAN, Penebusmu. Keadaan ini bagi-Ku seperti pada zaman Nuh: seperti Aku telah bersumpah kepadanya bahwa air bah tidak akan meliputi bumi lagi, demikianlah Aku telah bersumpah bahwa Aku tidak akan murka terhadap engkau dan tidak akan menghardik engkau lagi. Sebab biarpun gunung-gunung beranjak dan bukit-bukit bergoyang, tetapi kasih setia-Ku tidak akan beranjak dari padamu dan perjanjian damai-Ku tidak akan bergoyang, firman TUHAN, yang mengasihani engkau. Hai yang tertindas, yang dilanggar angin badai, yang tidak dihiburkan! Sesungguhnya, Aku akan meletakkan alasmu dari batu hitam dan dasar-dasarmu dari batu nilam. Aku akan membuat kemuncak-kemuncak tembokmu dari batu delima, pintu-pintu gerbangmu dari batu manikam merah dan segenap tembok perbatasanmu dari batu permata. Semua anakmu akan menjadi murid TUHAN, dan besarlah kesejahteraan mereka; engkau akan ditegakkan di atas kebenaran. Engkau akan jauh dari pemerasan, sebab engkau tidak usah lagi takut, dan engkau akan jauh dari kekejutan, sebab ia tidak akan mendekat kepadamu.

    6. Bacaan kelima (Yesaya 55: 1–11)
      Pembacaan dari kitab nabi Yesaya.
      Ayo, hai semua orang yang haus, marilah dan minumlah air, dan hai orang yang tidak mempunyai uang, marilah! Terimalah gandum tanpa uang pembeli dan makanlah, juga anggur dan susu tanpa bayaran! Mengapakah kamu belanjakan uang untuk sesuatu yang bukan roti, dan upah jerih payahmu untuk sesuatu yang tidak mengenyangkan? Dengarkanlah Aku maka kamu akan memakan yang baik dan kamu akan menikmati sajian yang paling lezat. Sendengkanlah telingamu dan datanglah kepada-Ku; dengarkanlah, maka kamu akan hidup! Aku hendak mengikat perjanjian abadi dengan kamu, menurut kasih setia yang teguh yang Kujanjikan kepada Daud. Sesungguhnya, Aku telah menetapkan dia menjadi saksi bagi bangsa-bangsa, menjadi seorang raja dan pemerintah bagi suku-suku bangsa; sesungguhnya, engkau akan memanggil bangsa yang tidak kaukenal, dan bangsa yang tidak mengenal engkau akan berlari kepadamu, oleh karena TUHAN, Allahmu, dan karena Yang Mahakudus, Allah Israel, yang mengagungkan engkau. Carilah TUHAN selama Ia berkenan ditemui; berserulah kepada-Nya selama Ia dekat! Baiklah orang fasik meninggalkan jalannya, dan orang jahat meninggalkan rancangannya; baiklah ia kembali kepada TUHAN, maka Dia akan mengasihaninya, dan kepada Allah kita, sebab Ia memberi pengampunan dengan limpahnya. Sebab rancangan-Ku bukanlah rancanganmu, dan jalanmu bukanlah jalan-Ku, demikianlah firman TUHAN. Seperti tingginya langit dari bumi, demikianlah tingginya jalan-Ku dari jalanmu dan rancangan-Ku dari rancanganmu. Sebab seperti hujan dan salju turun dari langit dan tidak kembali ke situ, melainkan mengairi bumi, membuatnya subur dan menumbuhkan tumbuh-tumbuhan, memberikan benih kepada penabur dan roti kepada orang yang mau makan, demikianlah firman-Ku yang keluar dari mulut-Ku: ia tidak akan kembali kepada-Ku dengan sia-sia, tetapi ia akan melaksanakan apa yang Kukehendaki, dan akan berhasil dalam apa yang Kusuruhkan kepadanya.

    7. Bacaan keenam (Barukh 3: 9–15 dan 32; 4:4)
      Pembacaan dari kitab Barukh.
      Dengarkanlah, hai Israel, segala perintah kehidupan, condongkanlah telinga untuk mengenal kearifan. Apa sebabnya, hai Israel, apa sebabnya maka engkau berada di negeri musuhmu serta menjadi tua di negeri yang asing dan menajiskan dirimu dengan yang mati dan terbilang di antara mereka yang turun ke dunia orang mati? Engkau telah meninggalkan sumber kebijaksanaan! Jikalau engkau berjalan di jalan Allah, niscaya selamanya engkau diam dengan damai sejahtera. Belajarlah di mana ada kearifan, di mana kekuatan dan di mana pengertian, supaya sekaligus kauketahui tempat umur panjang dan kehidupan, tempat cahaya mata dan damai sejahtera. Siapakah telah menemukan tempat kebijaksanaan, siapakah telah masuk ke dalam perbendaharaannya? Tetapi Yang Mahatahu mengetahuinya dan dengan pengertian-Nya mendapatinya; Ia menyediakan bumi untuk selama-lamanya dan mengisinya dengan hewan yang berkaki empat. Berbahagialah kita ini, hai Israel, oleh karena kita mengetahui apa yang berkenan pada Tuhan.

    8. Bacaan ketujuh (Yehezkiel 36: 16–28)
      Pembacaan dari kitab nabi Yehezkiel.
      Kemudian datanglah firman TUHAN kepadaku: "Hai anak manusia, waktu kaum Israel tinggal di tanah mereka, mereka menajiskannya dengan tingkah laku mereka; kelakuan mereka sama seperti cemar kain di hadapan-Ku. Maka Aku mencurahkan amarah-Ku ke atas mereka karena darah yang dicurahkan mereka di tanah itu, sedang tanah itu mereka najiskan dengan berhala-berhala mereka. Aku menghamburkan mereka di antara bangsa-bangsa, sehingga mereka berserak-serak di semua negeri, Aku menghakimi mereka selaras dengan tingkah lakunya. Di mana saja mereka datang di tengah bangsa-bangsa, mereka menajiskan nama-Ku yang kudus, dalam hal orang menyindir mereka: Katanya mereka umat TUHAN, tetapi mereka harus keluar dari tanah-Nya. Aku merasa sakit hati karena nama-Ku yang kudus yang dinajiskan oleh kaum Israel di tengah bangsa-bangsa, di mana mereka datang. Oleh karena itu katakanlah kepada kaum Israel: Beginilah firman Tuhan ALLAH: Bukan karena kamu Aku bertindak, hai kaum Israel, tetapi karena nama-Ku yang kudus yang kamu najiskan di tengah bangsa-bangsa di mana kamu datang. Aku akan menguduskan nama-Ku yang besar yang sudah dinajiskan di tengah bangsa-bangsa, dan yang kamu najiskan di tengah-tengah mereka. Dan bangsa-bangsa akan mengetahui bahwa Akulah TUHAN, demikianlah firman Tuhan ALLAH, manakala Aku menunjukkan kekudusan-Ku kepadamu di hadapan bangsa-bangsa. Aku akan menjemput kamu dari antara bangsa-bangsa dan mengumpulkan kamu dari semua negeri dan akan membawa kamu kembali ke tanahmu. Aku akan mencurahkan kepadamu air jernih, yang akan mentahirkan kamu; dari segala kenajisanmu dan dari semua berhala-berhalamu Aku akan mentahirkan kamu. Kamu akan Kuberikan hati yang baru, dan roh yang baru di dalam batinmu dan Aku akan menjauhkan dari tubuhmu hati yang keras dan Kuberikan kepadamu hati yang taat. Roh-Ku akan Kuberikan diam di dalam batinmu dan Aku akan membuat kamu hidup menurut segala ketetapan-Ku dan tetap berpegang pada peraturan-peraturan-Ku dan melakukannya. Dan kamu akan diam di dalam negeri yang telah Kuberikan kepada nenek moyangmu dan kamu akan menjadi umat-Ku dan Aku akan menjadi Allahmu.

    9. Surat (Roma 6: 3–11)
      Pembacaan dari surat Paulus kepada jemaat di Roma.
      Atau tidak tahukah kamu, bahwa kita semua yang telah dibaptis dalam Kristus, telah dibaptis dalam kematian-Nya? Dengan demikian kita telah dikuburkan bersama-sama dengan Dia oleh baptisan dalam kematian, supaya, sama seperti Kristus telah dibangkitkan dari antara orang mati oleh kemuliaan Bapa, demikian juga kita akan hidup dalam hidup yang baru. Sebab jika kita telah menjadi satu dengan apa yang sama dengan kematian-Nya, kita juga akan menjadi satu dengan apa yang sama dengan kebangkitan-Nya. Karena kita tahu, bahwa manusia lama kita telah turut disalibkan, supaya tubuh dosa kita hilang kuasanya, agar jangan kita menghambakan diri lagi kepada dosa. Sebab siapa yang telah mati, ia telah bebas dari dosa. Jadi jika kita telah mati dengan Kristus, kita percaya, bahwa kita akan hidup juga dengan Dia. Karena kita tahu, bahwa Kristus, sesudah Ia bangkit dari antara orang mati, tidak mati lagi: maut tidak berkuasa lagi atas Dia. Sebab kematian-Nya adalah kematian terhadap dosa, satu kali dan untuk selama-lamanya, dan kehidupan-Nya adalah kehidupan bagi Allah. Demikianlah hendaknya kamu memandangnya: bahwa kamu telah mati bagi dosa, tetapi kamu hidup bagi Allah dalam Kristus Yesus.

    10. Bacaan Injil (Markus 16: 1–8)
      Pembacaan dari Injil suci menurut Santo Markus.
      Setelah lewat hari Sabat, Maria Magdalena dan Maria ibu Yakobus, serta Salome membeli rempah-rempah untuk pergi ke kubur dan meminyaki Yesus. Dan pagi-pagi benar pada hari pertama minggu itu, setelah matahari terbit, pergilah mereka ke kubur. Mereka berkata seorang kepada yang lain: "Siapa yang akan menggulingkan batu itu bagi kita dari pintu kubur?" Tetapi ketika mereka melihat dari dekat, tampaklah, batu yang memang sangat besar itu sudah terguling. Lalu mereka masuk ke dalam kubur dan mereka melihat seorang muda yang memakai jubah putih duduk di sebelah kanan. Mereka pun sangat terkejut, tetapi orang muda itu berkata kepada mereka: "Jangan takut! Kamu mencari Yesus orang Nazaret, yang disalibkan itu. Ia telah bangkit. Ia tidak ada di sini. Lihat! Inilah tempat mereka membaringkan Dia. Tetapi sekarang pergilah, katakanlah kepada murid-murid-Nya dan kepada Petrus: Ia mendahului kamu ke Galilea; di sana kamu akan melihat Dia, seperti yang sudah dikatakan-Nya kepada kamu." Lalu mereka keluar dan lari meninggalkan kubur itu, sebab gentar dan dahsyat menimpa mereka. Mereka tidak mengatakan apa-apa kepada siapa pun juga karena takut. Dengan singkat mereka sampaikan semua pesan itu kepada Petrus dan teman-temannya. Sesudah itu Yesus sendiri dengan perantaraan murid-murid-Nya memberitakan dari Timur ke Barat berita yang kudus dan tak terbinasakan tentang keselamatan yang kekal itu.
