First reading (Numbers 11: 25–29)
A reading from the book of Numbers.
The LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. Taking some of the spirit that was on Moses, the LORD bestowed it on the seventy elders; and as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied. Now two men, one named Eldad and the other Medad, were not in the gathering but had been left in the camp. They too had been on the list, but had not gone out to the tent; yet the spirit came to rest on them also, and they prophesied in the camp. So, when a young man quickly told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp," Joshua, son of Nun, who from his youth had been Moses’aide, said, "Moses, my lord, stop them." But Moses answered him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets!"
Second reading (James 5: 1–6)
A reading from the letter of Saint James.
Come now, you rich, weep and wail over your impending miseries. Your wealth has rotted away, your clothes have become moth-eaten, your gold and silver have corroded, and that corrosion will be a testimony against you; it will devour your flesh like a fire. You have stored up treasure for the last days. Behold, the wages you withheld from the workers who harvested your fields are crying aloud; and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and pleasure; you have fattened your hearts for the day of slaughter. You have condemned; you have murdered the righteous one; he offers you no resistance.
Gospel (Mark 9: 38–43, 45 and 47–48)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark.
At that time, John said to Jesus, "Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us." Jesus replied, "Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us. Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward. "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut if off. It is better for you to enter into life crippled than with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. Better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into Gehenna, where 'their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'"

The Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. He took some of the spirit that was upon him and put it on the seventy elders. Now when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But this they did not do again. Two men had remained in the camp; the name of one was Eldad, the name of the other Medad. However, the spirit came on them for they were among those who were registered though they had not gone out to the Tent. As they prophesied inside the camp, a young man ran and told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp." Joshua, the son of Nun, who ministered to Moses from his youth stated, "My lord Moses, stop them!" But Moses stated to him, "Are you jealous on my behalf? Would that all the Lord's people were prophets and that the Lord would sent his spirit upon them!"
Second reading (James 5: 1–6)
A reading from the letter of Saint James.
So, now for what concerns the rich! Cry and weep for the misfortunes which are coming upon you. Your riches are rotting and your clothes eaten up by the moths. Your silver and gold have rusted and their rust grows into a witness against you. It will consume flesh like fire, for having piled up riches in these last days. You deceived the workers who harvested your fields but now their wages cry out to the heavens. The reapers' complaints have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You lived in luxury and pleasure in this world and felt happy while others were murdered. You have easily condemned and killed the innocent since they offered no resistance.
Gospel (Mark 9: 38–43, 45 and 47–48)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark.
John stated to Jesus, "Master, we saw someone who drove out demons by calling upon your name, and we tried to forbid him because he does not belong to our group." Jesus answered, "Do not forbid him, for the one who works a miracle in my name can soon after speak evil of me. For whoever is not against us is for us. If anyone gives a drink of water because you belong to Christ and bear his name, truly, I say to you, he will not go without reward. If anyone should cause one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble and sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a great millstone around his neck. If your hand makes you fall into sin, cut it off! it is better for you to enter life without a hand than with two hands to go to hell, to the fire that never goes out. And if your foot makes you fall into sin, cut it off! It is better for you to enter life without a foot than with both feet to be thrown into hell. And if your eye makes you fall into sin, tear it out! It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than, keeping both eyes, to be thrown into hell where the worms that eat them never die, and the fire never goes out."

The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul; the decree of the LORD is trustworthy, giving wisdom to the simple.
The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the LORD are true, all of them just.
Though your servant is careful of them, very diligent in keeping them, yet who can detect failings? Cleanse me from my unknown faults!
From wanton sin especially, restrain your servant; let it not rule over me. Then shall I be blameless and innocent of serious sin.

Dos hombres se habían quedado en el campamento, el primero se llamaba Eldad y el otro, Medad; el espíritu se posó sobre ellos. Pertenecían a los inscritos, pero no habían ido a la Tienda, y profetizaron en el campamento. Ahora les toca a los ricos: lloren y laméntense porque les han venido encima desgracias. Los gusanos se han metido en sus reservas y la polilla se come sus vestidos, su oro y su plata se han oxidado. El óxido se levanta como acusador contra ustedes y como un fuego les devora las carnes. ¿Cómo han atesorado, si ya estamos en los últimos días? El salario de los trabajadores que cosecharon sus campos se ha puesto a gritar, pues ustedes no les pagaron; las quejas de los segadores ya habían llegado a los oídos del Señor de los ejércitos. Han conocido sólo lujo y placeres en este mundo, y lo pasaron muy bien, mientras otros eran asesinados. Condenaron y mataron al inocente, pues ¿cómo podía defenderse?
Evangelio (Marcos 9: 38–43, 45, y 47–48)

Juan le dijo: “Maestro, hemos visto a uno que expulsaba demonios en tu Nombre, y tratamos de impedírselo porque no es de los nuestros.” Pero Jesús les dijo: “No se lo impidan, porque nadie puede hacer un milagro en mi Nombre y luego hablar mal de mí. Y él que no está contra nosotros, está con nosotros. Les aseguro que no quedará sin recompensa él que les dé de beber un vaso de agua por el hecho de que ustedes pertenecen a Cristo. Si alguien llegara a escandalizar a uno de estos pequeños que tienen fe, sería preferible para él que le ataran al cuello una piedra de moler y lo arrojaran al mar. Si tu mano es para ti ocasión de pecado, córtala, porque más te vale entrar en la Vida manco, que ir con tus dos manos a la Gehena, al fuego inextinguible. Porque más te vale entrar lisiado en la Vida, que ser arrojado con tus dos pies a la Gehena. Pues es mejor para ti entrar con un solo ojo en el Reino de Dios que ser arrojado con los dos al infierno, donde el gusano no muere y el fuego no se apaga.”

Bumaba si Yahweh sa ulap at kinausap si Moises. Ang pitumpung matatandang pinuno ay binahaginan nga niya ng espiritu, tulad ng ibinigay niya kay Moises. Sila'y napuspos ng kapangyarihan at nagpropesiya ngunit hindi na nila ito muling nagawa. May naiwang dalawang pinuno sa kampo, Eldad ang pangalan ng isa at Medad naman ang isa. Tinawag silang kasama ng pitumpu ngunit hindi sumama. Gayunman, binahaginan din sila ng espiritu ni Yahweh kaya sila'y nagpahayag din tulad ng mga propeta sa loob ng kampo. Nakita pala sila ng isang binata at patakbo itong nagpunta kay Moises. Sinabi niya, "Sina Eldad at Medad ay nagpapahayag sa kampo." Masih ada dua orang tinggal di tempat perkemahan; yang seorang bernama Eldad, yang lain bernama Medad. Ketika Roh itu hinggap pada mereka—mereka itu termasuk orang-orang yang dicatat, tetapi tidak turut pergi ke kemah—maka kepenuhanlah mereka seperti nabi di tempat perkemahan. 富んでいる人たち、よく聞きなさい。自分にふりかかってくる不幸を思って、泣きわめきなさい。あなたがたの富は朽ち果て、衣服には虫が付き、金銀もさびてしまいます。このさびこそが、あなたがたの罪の証拠となり、あなたがたの肉を火のように食い尽くすでしょう。あなたがたは、この終わりの時のために宝を蓄えたのでした。御覧なさい。畑を刈り入れた労働者にあなたがたが支払わなかった賃金が、叫び声をあげています。刈り入れをした人々の叫びは、万軍の主の耳に達しました。あなたがたは、地上でぜいたくに暮らして、快楽にふけり、屠られる日に備え、自分の心を太らせ、正しい人を罪に定めて、殺した。その人は、あなたがたに抵抗していません。

ヨハネがイエスに言った。「先生、お名前を使って悪霊を追い出している者を見ましたが、私たちに従わないので、やめさせようとしました。」イエスは言われた。「やめさせてはならない。私の名を使って奇跡を行い、そのすぐ後で、私の悪口は言えまい。私たちに逆らわない者は、私たちの味方なのである。はっきり言っておく。キリストの弟子だという理由で、あなたがたに一杯の水を飲ませてくれる者は、必ずその報いを受ける。私を信じるこれらの小さな者の一人をつまずかせる者は、大きな石臼を首に懸けられて、海に投げ込まれてしまう方がはるかによい。もし片方の手があなたをつまずかせるなら、切り捨ててしまいなさい。両手がそろったまま地獄の消えない火の中に落ちるよりは、片手になっても命にあずかる方がよい。もし片方の足があなたをつまずかせるなら、切り捨ててしまいなさい。両足がそろったままで地獄に投げ込まれるよりは、片足になっても命にあずかる方がよい。もし片方の目があなたをつまずかせるなら、えぐり出しなさい。両方の目がそろったまま地獄に投げ込まれるよりは、一つの目になっても神の国に入る方がよい。地獄では蛆が尽きることも、火が消えることもない。」

Allora il Signore scese nella nube e gli parlò: prese lo spirito che era su di lui e lo infuse sui settanta anziani: quando lo spirito si fu posato su di essi, quelli profetizzarono, ma non lo fecero più in seguito. Intanto, due uomini, uno chiamato Eldad e l'altro Medad, erano rimasti nell'accampamento e lo spirito si posò su di essi; erano fra gli iscritti ma non erano usciti per andare alla tenda; si misero a profetizzare nell'accampamento. Un giovane corse a riferire la cosa a Mosè e disse: “Eldad e Medad profetizzano nell'accampamento.” Allora Giosuè, figlio di Nun, che dalla sua giovinezza era al servizio di Mosè, disse: “Mosè, signor mio, impediscili!” Ma Mosè gli rispose: “Sei tu geloso per me? Fossero tutti profeti nel popolo del Signore e volesse il Signore dare loro il suo spirito!”
Seconda lettura (Giacomo 5: 1–6)
Una lettura della lettera di Giacomo.
E ora a voi, ricchi: piangete e gridate per le sciagure che vi sovrastano! Le vostre ricchezze sono imputridite, le vostre vesti sono state divorate dalle tarme; il vostro oro e il vostro argento sono consumati dalla ruggine, la loro ruggine si leverà a testimonianza contro di voi e divorerà le vostre carni come un fuoco. Avete accumulato tesori per gli ultimi giorni! Ecco, il salario da voi defraudato ai lavoratori che hanno mietuto le vostre terre grida; e le proteste dei mietitori sono giunte alle orecchie del Signore degli eserciti. Avete gozzovigliato sulla terra e vi siete saziati di piaceri, vi siete ingrassati per il giorno della strage. Avete condannato e ucciso il giusto ed egli non può opporre resistenza.
Vangelo (Marco 9: 38–43, 45, e 47–48)

Giovanni gli disse: “Maestro, abbiamo visto uno che scacciava i demòni nel tuo nome e glielo abbiamo vietato, perché non era dei nostri.” Ma Gesù disse: “Non glielo proibite, perché non c'è nessuno che faccia un miracolo nel mio nome e subito dopo possa parlare male di me. Chi non è contro di noi è per noi. Chiunque vi darà da bere un bicchiere d'acqua nel mio nome perché siete di Cristo, vi dico in verità che non perderà la sua ricompensa. Chi scandalizza uno di questi piccoli che credono, è meglio per lui che gli si metta una macina da asino al collo e venga gettato nel mare. Se la tua mano ti scandalizza, tagliala: è meglio per te entrare nella vita monco, che con due mani andare nella Geenna, nel fuoco inestinguibile. Se il tuo piede ti scandalizza, taglialo: è meglio per te entrare nella vita zoppo, che esser gettato con due piedi nella Geenna. Se il tuo occhio ti scandalizza, cavalo: è meglio per te entrare nel regno di Dio con un occhio solo, che essere gettato con due occhi nella Geenna, dove il loro verme non muore e il fuoco non si estingue.”
