New American Bible readings
First reading (Exodus 17: 8–13)
A reading from the book of Exodus.
In those days, Amalek came and waged war against Israel. Moses, therefore, said to Joshua, "Pick out certain men, and tomorrow go out and engage Amalek in battle. I will be standing on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand." So Joshua did as Moses told him: he engaged Amalek in battle after Moses had climbed to the top of the hill with Aaron and Hur. As long as Moses kept his hands raised up, Israel had the better of the fight, but when he let his hands rest, Amalek had the better of the fight. Moses'hands, however, grew tired; so they put a rock in place for him to sit on. Meanwhile, Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other, so that his hands remained steady till sunset. And Joshua mowed down Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
Second reading (2 Timothy 3:14 – 4:2)
A reading from the second letter of Saint Paul to Timothy.
Beloved: Remain faithful to what you have learned and believed, because you know from whom you learned it, and that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are capable of giving you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work. I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingly power: proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient; convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.
Gospel (Luke 18: 1–8)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.
Jesus told his disciples a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. He said, "There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being. And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, 'Render a just decision for me against my adversary.' For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually, he thought, 'While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.'" The Lord said, "Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

A reading from the book of Exodus.
When the Israelites were at Rephidim, the Amalekites came and attacked them. So Moses stated to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites in the morning. As for me, I will stand with God's staff in my hand at the top of the hill." Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had directed, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went to the top of the hill. It happened that when Moses raised his hands, the Israelites would win but when he lowered them, the Amalekites would have the advantage. As Moses' arms grew weary they placed a stone for him to sit on while Aaron and Hur on either side held up his arms which remained steady until sunset. For his part, Joshua mowed down Amalek and his people with the sword.
Second reading (2 Timothy 3:14 – 4:2)
A reading from the second letter of Saint Paul to Timothy.
Beloved: Continue with what you have learned and what has been entrusted to you, knowing from whom you received it. Besides, you have known the Scriptures from childhood; they will give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, refuting error, for correcting and training in Christian life. Through Scripture, the man of God is made expert and thoroughly equipped for every good work. In the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by the hope I have of his coming and his kingdom, I urge you to preach the Word, in season and out of season, reproving, rebuking or advising, always with patience and providing instruction.
Gospel (Luke 18: 1–8)

Jesus told them a parable to show them that they should pray continually and not lose heart. He stated, "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor people. In the same town was a widow who kept coming to him, stating, 'Defend my rights against my opponent.' For a time he refused, but finally, he thought: 'Even though I neither fear God nor care about people, this widow bothers me so much I will see that she gets justice; then she will stop coming and wearing me out." And Jesus explained, "Listen to what the evil judge says. Will God not do justice for his chosen ones who cry to him day and night even if he delays in answering them? I tell you, he will speedily do them justice. Yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

The LORD is your guardian; the LORD is your shade; he is beside you at your right hand. The sun shall not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

Primera lectura (Éxodo 17: 8–13)

En Refidim los amalecitas vinieron a atacar a Israel. Moisés dijo a Josué: “Elígete algunos hombres y marcha a pelear contra los amalecitas. Yo, por mi parte, estaré mañana en lo alto de la loma, con el bastón de Dios en mi mano.” Josué hizo como se lo ordenaba Moisés, y salió a pelear contra los amalecitas. Mientras tanto, Moisés, Aarón y Jur subieron a la cima de la loma. Y sucedió que mientras Moisés tenía las manos arriba, se imponía Israel, pero cuando las bajaba, se imponían los amalecitas. Se le cansaron los brazos a Moisés; entonces tomaron una piedra y sentaron a Moisés sobre ella, mientras Aarón y Jur le sostenían los brazos, uno a cada lado. Así, Moisés mantuvo sus brazos alzados hasta la puesta del sol y Josué le mató mucha, mucha gente a Amalec.

Después le enseñó con una parábola que era necesario orar siempre sin desanimarse: “En una ciudad había un juez que no temía a Dios ni le importaban los hombres; y en la misma ciudad vivía una viuda que recurría a él, diciéndole: ‘Te ruego que me hagas justicia contra mi adversario.’ Durante mucho tiempo el juez se negó, pero después dijo: ‘Yo no temo a Dios ni me importan los hombres, pero como esta viuda me molesta, le haré justicia para que no venga continuamente a fastidiarme.’” Y el Señor dijo: “Oigan lo que dijo este juez injusto. Y Dios, ¿no hará justicia a sus elegidos, que claman a él día y noche, aunque los haga esperar? Les aseguro que en un abrir y cerrar de ojos les hará justicia. Pero cuando venga el Hijo del hombre, ¿encontrará fe sobre la tierra?”

Toda la Sagrada Escritura está inspirada por Dios y es útil para enseñar, para reprender, para corregir y para educar en la virtud, a fin de que el hombre de Dios sea perfecto y esté enteramente preparado para toda obra buena. En presencia de Dios y de Cristo Jesús, que ha de venir a juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos, te pido encarecidamente, por su advenimiento y por su Reino, que anuncies la palabra; insiste a tiempo y a destiempo; convence, reprende y exhorta con toda paciencia y sabiduría.

Por mucho tiempo, el juez no le hizo caso, pero después se dijo: 'Aunque no temo a Dios ni respeto a los hombres, sin embargo, por la insistencia de esta viuda, voy a hacerle justicia para que no me siga molestando'". Dicho esto, Jesús comentó: "Si así pensaba el juez injusto, ¿creen acaso que Dios no hará justicia a sus elegidos, que claman a él día y noche, y que los hará esperar? Yo les digo que les hará justicia sin tardar. Pero, cuando venga el Hijo del hombre, ¿creen ustedes que encontrará fe sobre la tierra?"

Hahawakan ko naman ang tungkod na ibinigay sa akin ng Diyos at tatayo ako sa ibabaw ng burol.” Sinunod ni Josue ang utos ni Moises at hinarap niya ang mga Amalekita. Si Moises naman, kasama sina Aaron at Hur ay nagpunta sa burol. Kapag nakataas ang mga kamay ni Moises, nananalo ang mga Israelita; kapag nakababa, nananalo naman ang mga Amalekita. Nangawit na si Moises kaya sina Aaron at Hur ay kumuha ng isang bato at pinaupo roon si Moises habang hawak nilang pataas ang mga kamay nito hanggang sa lumubog ang araw. Dahil dito'y natalo ni Josue ang mga Amalekita.

Lalu datanglah orang Amalek dan berperang melawan orang Israel di Rafidim. Musa berkata kepada Yosua: "Pilihlah orang-orang bagi kita, lalu keluarlah berperang melawan orang Amalek, besok aku akan berdiri di puncak bukit itu dengan memegang tongkat Allah di tanganku." Lalu Yosua melakukan seperti yang dikatakan Musa kepadanya dan berperang melawan orang Amalek; tetapi Musa, Harun dan Hur telah naik ke puncak bukit. Dan terjadilah, apabila Musa mengangkat tangannya, lebih kuatlah Israel, tetapi apabila ia menurunkan tangannya, lebih kuatlah Amalek. Maka penatlah tangan Musa, sebab itu mereka mengambil sebuah batu, diletakkanlah di bawahnya, supaya ia duduk di atasnya; Harun dan Hur menopang kedua belah tangannya, seorang di sisi yang satu, seorang di sisi yang lain, sehingga tangannya tidak bergerak sampai matahari terbenam. Demikianlah Yosua mengalahkan Amalek dan rakyatnya dengan mata pedang.

Tetapi hendaklah engkau tetap berpegang pada kebenaran yang telah engkau terima dan engkau yakini, dengan selalu mengingat orang yang telah mengajarkannya kepadamu. Ingatlah juga bahwa dari kecil engkau sudah mengenal Kitab Suci yang dapat memberi hikmat kepadamu dan menuntun engkau kepada keselamatan oleh iman kepada Kristus Yesus. Segala tulisan yang diilhamkan Allah memang bermanfaat untuk mengajar, untuk menyatakan kesalahan, untuk memperbaiki kelakuan dan untuk mendidik orang dalam kebenaran. Dengan demikian tiap-tiap manusia kepunyaan Allah diperlengkapi untuk setiap perbuatan baik. Di hadapan Allah dan Kristus Yesus yang akan menghakimi orang yang hidup dan yang mati, aku berpesan dengan sungguh-sungguh kepadamu demi penyataan-Nya dan demi Kerajaan-Nya: Beritakanlah firman, siap sedialah baik atau tidak baik waktunya, nyatakanlah apa yang salah, tegorlah dan nasihatilah dengan segala kesabaran dan pengajaran.

ある日、イエスは弟子たちに、いつでも祈り、また答えられるまで祈り続けることを教えようと、一つのたとえを話されました。「ある町に、少しも神を恐れず、人を人とも思わない裁判官がいました。同じ町に住む一人の未亡人が、たびたびこの裁判官のところへ押しかけ、『訴えられて困っています。どうか私を守ってください』と願い出ました。裁判官はしばらくの間、相手にしませんでしたが、あまりのしつこさに我慢できなくなり、心の中でこう考えました。『私は神だろうが人間だろうがこわくないが、あの女ときたらうるさくてかなわない。しかたがない。裁判をしてやることにしよう。そうすれば、もうわずらわしい思いをしなくてすむだろう。』」主は続けて言われました。「このように、悪徳裁判官でさえ音を上げてしまうのなら、まして神は、昼も夜もひたすら訴え続ける信者たちを、必ず正しく取り扱ってくださるはずです。そうは思いませんか。神はすぐにも答えてくださるのです。ただ問題は、メシヤのわたしが帰って来る時、いったいどれだけの人が信仰を持って祈り続けているかです。」
第一読み物（出エジプト記 第17章：第8詩–第13詩）

アマレクがレフィディムに来てイスラエルと戦ったとき、モーセはヨシュアに言った。「男子を選び出し、アマレクとの戦いに出陣させるがよい。明日、わたしは神の杖を手に持って、丘の頂に立つ。」ヨシュアは、モーセの命じたとおりに実行し、アマレクと戦った。モーセとアロン、そしてフルは丘の頂に登った。モーセが手を上げている間、イスラエルは優勢になり、手を下ろすと、アマレクが優勢になった。モーセの手が重くなったので、アロンとフルは石を持って来てモーセの下に置いた。モーセはその上に座り、アロンとフルはモーセの両側に立って、彼の手を支えた。その手は、日の沈むまで、しっかりと上げられていた。ヨシュアは、アマレクとその民を剣にかけて打ち破った。
第二読み物（テモテへの手紙第二第3章：第14詩–第4章：第2詩）

だがあなたは、自分が学んで確信したことから離れてはなりません。あなたは、それをだれから学んだかを知っており、また、自分が幼い日から聖書に親しんできたことをも知っているからです。この書物は、キリスト・イエスへの信仰を通して救いに導く知恵を、あなたに与えることができます。聖書はすべて神の霊の導きの下に書かれ、人を教え、戒め、誤りを正し、義に導く訓練をするうえに有益です。こうして、神に仕える人は、どのような善い業をも行うことができるように、十分に整えられるのです。神の御前で、そして、生きている者と死んだ者を裁くために来られるキリスト・イエスの御前で、その出現とその御国とを思いつつ、厳かに命じます。御言葉を宣べ伝えなさい。折が良くても悪くても励みなさい。とがめ、戒め、励ましなさい。忍耐強く、十分に教えるのです。
福音書（ルカ第18章: 第1詩–第8詩）

イエスは、気を落とさずに絶えず祈らなければならないことを教えるために、弟子たちにたとえを話された。「ある町に、神を畏れず人を人とも思わない裁判官がいた。ところが、その町に一人のやもめがいて、裁判官のところに来ては、『相手を裁いて、わたしを守ってください』と言っていた。裁判官は、しばらくの間は取り合おうとしなかった。しかし、その後に考えた。『自分は神など畏れないし、人を人とも思わない。しかし、あのやもめは、うるさくてかなわないから、彼女のために裁判をしてやろう。さもないと、ひっきりなしにやって来て、わたしをさんざんな目に遭わすにちがいない。』」それから、主は言われた。「この不正な裁判官の言いぐさを聞きなさい。まして神は、昼も夜も叫び求めている選ばれた人たちのために裁きを行わずに、彼らをいつまでもほうっておかれることがあろうか。言っておくが、神は速やかに裁いてくださる。しかし、人の子が来るとき、果たして地上に信仰を見いだすだろうか。」

Allora Amalek venne a combattere contro Israele a Refidim. Mosè disse a Giosuè: “Scegli per noi alcuni uomini ed esci in battaglia contro Amalek. Domani io starò ritto sulla cima del colle con in mano il bastone di Dio.” Giosuè eseguì quanto gli aveva ordinato Mosè per combattere contro Amalek, mentre Mosè, Aronne, e Cur salirono sulla cima del colle. Quando Mosè alzava le mani, Israele era il più forte, ma quando le lasciava cadere, era più forte Amalek. Poiché Mosè sentiva pesare le mani dalla stanchezza, presero una pietra, la collocarono sotto di lui ed egli vi sedette, mentre Aronne e Cur, uno da una parte e l'altro dall'altra, sostenevano le sue mani. Così le sue mani rimasero ferme fino al tramonto del sole. Giosuè sconfisse Amalek e il suo popolo passandoli poi a fil di spada.
Seconda lettura (2 Timoteo 3:14 – 4:2)
Una lettura dalla seconda lettera di San Paolo a Timoteo.
Tu però rimani saldo in quello che hai imparato e di cui sei convinto, sapendo da chi l'hai appreso e che fin dall'infanzia conosci le sacre Scritture: queste possono istruirti per la salvezza, che si ottiene per mezzo della fede in Cristo Gesù. Tutta la Scrittura infatti è ispirata da Dio e utile per insegnare, convincere, correggere e formare alla giustizia, perché l'uomo di Dio sia completo e ben preparato per ogni opera buona. Ti scongiuro davanti a Dio e a Cristo Gesù che verrà a giudicare i vivi e i morti, per la sua manifestazione e il suo regno: annunzia la parola, insisti in ogni occasione opportuna e non opportuna, ammonisci, rimprovera, esorta con ogni magnanimità e dottrina.
Vangelo (Luca 18: 1–8)
Una lettura dal Santo Vangelo secondo San Luca.
Disse loro una parabola sulla necessità di pregare sempre, senza stancarsi: “C'era in una città un giudice, che non temeva Dio e non aveva riguardo per nessuno. In quella città c'era anche una vedova, che andava da lui e gli diceva: Fammi giustizia contro il mio avversario. Per un certo tempo egli non volle; ma poi disse tra sé: Anche se non temo Dio e non ho rispetto di nessuno, poiché questa vedova è così molesta le farò giustizia, perché non venga continuamente a importunarmi.” E il Signore soggiunse: “Avete udito ciò che dice il giudice disonesto. E Dio non farà giustizia ai suoi eletti che gridano giorno e notte verso di lui, e li farà a lungo aspettare? Vi dico che farà loro giustizia prontamente. Ma il Figlio dell'uomo, quando verrà, troverà la fede sulla terra?”
Prima lettura (Siracide 35: 12–14 e 16–18)

Perché il Signore è giudice e non v'è presso di lui preferenza di persone. Non è parziale con nessuno contro il povero, anzi ascolta proprio la preghiera dell'oppresso. Non trascura la supplica dell'orfano né la vedova, quando si sfoga nel lamento. Chi venera Dio sarà accolto con benevolenza, la sua preghiera giungerà fino alle nubi. La preghiera dell'umile penetra le nubi, finché non sia arrivata, non si contenta; non desiste finché l'Altissimo non sia intervenuto, rendendo soddisfazione ai giusti e ristabilendo l'equità.
Seconda lettura (2 Timoteo 4: 6–8 e 16–18)
Una lettura dalla seconda lettera di San Paolo a Timoteo.
Quanto a me, il mio sangue sta per essere sparso in libagione ed è giunto il momento di sciogliere le vele. Ho combattuto la buona battaglia, ho terminato la mia corsa, ho conservato la fede. Ora mi resta solo la corona di giustizia che il Signore, giusto giudice, mi consegnerà in quel giorno; e non solo a me, ma anche a tutti coloro che attendono con amore la sua manifestazione. Nella mia prima difesa in tribunale nessuno mi ha assistito; tutti mi hanno abbandonato. Non se ne tenga conto contro di loro. Il Signore però mi è stato vicino e mi ha dato forza, perché per mio mezzo si compisse la proclamazione del messaggio e potessero sentirlo tutti i Gentili: e così fui liberato dalla bocca del leone. Il Signore mi libererà da ogni male e mi salverà per il suo regno eterno; a lui la gloria nei secoli dei secoli. Amen.
Vangelo (Luca 18: 9–14)
Una lettura del Santo Vangelo secondo San Luca.
Disse ancora questa parabola per alcuni che presumevano di esser giusti e disprezzavano gli altri: “Due uomini salirono al tempio a pregare: uno era fariseo e l'altro pubblicano. Il fariseo, stando in piedi, pregava così tra sé: ‘O Dio, ti ringrazio che non sono come gli altri uomini, ladri, ingiusti, adùlteri, e neppure come questo pubblicano. Digiuno due volte la settimana e pago le decime di quanto possiedo.’ Il pubblicano invece, fermatosi a distanza, non osava nemmeno alzare gli occhi al cielo, ma si batteva il petto dicendo: ‘O Dio, abbi pietà di me peccatore.’ Io vi dico: questi tornò a casa sua giustificato, a differenza dell'altro, perché chi si esalta sarà umiliato e chi si umilia sarà esaltato.”
