New American Bible readings
First reading (Acts 10: 25–26, 34–35 and 44–48)
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and, falling at his feet, paid him homage. Peter, however, raised him up, saying, "Get up. I myself am also a human being." Then Peter proceeded to speak and said, "In truth, I see that God shows no partiality. Rather, in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him." While Peter was still speaking these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the word. The circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit should have been poured out on the Gentiles also, for they could hear them speaking in tongues and glorifying God. Then Peter responded, "Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit even as we have?" He ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
Second reading (1 John 4: 7–10)
A reading from the first letter of Saint John.
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him. In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.
Gospel (John 15: 9–17)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.
Jesus said to his disciples: "As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love. "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy might be complete. This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. This I command you: love one another."

As Peter was about to enter the house, Cornelius went to him, fell on his knees and bowed low. But Peter lifted him up saying, "Stand up, for I too am a human being." Peter began to spoke to Cornelius and the group, "Truly, I realize that God does not show partiality, but in all nations he listens to everyone who fears God and does good." Peter was still speaking when the Holy Spirit came upon all who listened to the Word. And the believers of the Jewish origin who had come with Peter were amazed, "Why! God gives and pours the Holy Spirit on foreigners also!" For indeed this occurred: they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter declared, "Can we refuse to baptize with water these people who have received the Holy Spirit, just as we have?" So he had them baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. After that, they asked him to remain with them for some days.
Second reading (1 John 4: 7–10)

My dear friends, let us love one another for love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Those who do not love have not known God, for God is love. How did the love of God appear among us? God sent his only Son into this world that we might have life through him. This is love: not that we loved God but that first loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Cuando Pedro entró, Cornelio fue a su encuentro y se postró a sus pies. Pero Pedro lo hizo levantar, diciéndole: “Levántate, porque yo no soy más que un hombre.” Entonces Pedro, tomando la palabra, dijo: “Verdaderamente, comprendo que Dios no hace acepción de personas, y que en cualquier nación, todo el que lo teme y practica la justicia es agradable a él." Mientras Pedro estaba hablando, el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre todos los que escuchaban la Palabra. Los fieles de origen judío que habían venido con Pedro quedaron maravillados al ver que el Espíritu Santo era derramado también sobre los paganos. En efecto, los oían hablar diversas lenguas y proclamar la grandeza de Dios. Pedro dijo: “¿Acaso se puede negar el agua del bautismo a los que recibieron el Espíritu Santo como nosotros?” Y ordenó que fueran bautizados en el nombre del Señor Jesucristo. Entonces le rogaron que se quedara con ellos algunos días.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 98) (Versículos 1–4)

Miren cómo se manifestó el amor de Dios entre nosotros: Dios envió a su Hijo único a este mundo para que tengamos vida por medio de él. En esto está el amor: no es que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino que él nos amó primero y envió a su Hijo como víctima por nuestros pecados.
Evangelio (Juan 15: 9–17)

Jesús les dijo a sus discípulos: "Como el Padre me amó, también yo los he amado a ustedes. Permanezcan en mi amor. Si cumplen mis mandamientos, permanecerán en mi amor. Como yo cumplí los mandamientos de mi Padre y permanezco en su amor. Les he dicho esto para que mi gozo sea el de ustedes, y ese gozo sea perfecto. Este es mi mandamiento: Ámense los unos a los otros, como yo los he amado. No hay amor más grande que dar la vida por los amigos. Ustedes son mis amigos si hacen lo que yo les mando. Ya no los llamo servidores, porque el servidor ignora lo que hace su señor; yo los llamo amigos, porque les he dado a conocer todo lo que oí de mi Padre. No son ustedes los que me eligieron a mí, sino yo el que los elegí a ustedes, y los destiné para que vayan y den fruto, y ese fruto sea duradero. Ketika Petrus masuk, datanglah Kornelius menyambutnya, dan sambil tersungkur di depan kakinya, ia menyembah Petrus. Tetapi Petrus menegakkan dia, katanya: "Bangunlah, aku hanya manusia saja." Lalu mulailah Petrus berbicara, katanya: "Sesungguhnya aku telah mengerti, bahwa Allah tidak membedakan orang. Setiap orang dari bangsa mana pun yang takut akan Dia dan yang mengamalkan kebenaran berkenan kepada-Nya." Ketika Petrus sedang berkata demikian, turunlah Roh Kudus ke atas semua orang yang mendengarkan pemberitaan itu. Dan semua orang percaya dari golongan bersunat yang menyertai Petrus, tercengang-cengang, karena melihat, bahwa karunia Roh Kudus dicurahkan ke atas bangsa-bangsa lain juga, sebab mereka mendengar orang-orang itu berkata-kata dalam bahasa roh dan memuliakan Allah. Lalu kata Petrus: "Bolehkah orang mencegah untuk membaptis orang-orang ini dengan air, sedangkan mereka telah menerima Roh Kudus sama seperti kita?" Lalu ia menyuruh mereka dibaptis dalam nama Yesus Kristus. Kemudian mereka meminta Petrus, supaya ia tinggal beberapa hari lagi bersama-sama dengan mereka.
Bacaan kedua (1 Yohanes 4: 7–10)

Saudara-saudaraku yang kekasih, marilah kita saling mengasihi, sebab kasih itu berasal dari Allah; dan setiap orang yang mengasihi, lahir dari Allah dan mengenal Allah. Barangsiapa tidak mengasihi, ia tidak mengenal Allah, sebab Allah adalah kasih. Dalam hal inilah kasih Allah dinyatakan di tengah-tengah kita, yaitu bahwa Allah telah mengutus Anak-Nya yang tunggal ke dalam dunia, supaya kita hidup oleh-Nya. Inilah kasih itu: Bukan kita yang telah mengasihi Allah, tetapi Allah yang telah mengasihi kita dan yang telah mengutus Anak-Nya sebagai pendamaian bagi dosa-dosa kita.

Mentre Pietro stava per entrare, Cornelio andandogli incontro si gettò ai suoi piedi per adorarlo. Ma Pietro lo rialzò, dicendo: "Alzati: anch'io sono un uomo!" Pietro prese la parola e disse: "In verità sto rendendomi conto che Dio non fa preferenze di persone, ma chi lo teme e pratica la giustizia, a qualunque popolo appartenga, è a lui accetto." Pietro stava ancora dicendo queste cose, quando lo Spirito Santo scese sopra tutti coloro che ascoltavano il discorso. E i fedeli circoncisi, che erano venuti con Pietro, si meravigliavano che anche sopra i pagani si effondesse il dono dello Spirito Santo; li sentivano infatti parlare lingue e glorificare Dio. Allora Pietro disse: "Forse che si può proibire che siano battezzati con l'acqua questi che hanno ricevuto lo Spirito Santo al pari di noi?" E ordinò che fossero battezzati nel nome di Gesù Cristo. Dopo tutto questo lo pregarono di fermarsi alcuni giorni.
Seconda lettura (1 Giovanni 4: 7–10)
Una lettura della prima lettera di San Giovanni.
Carissimi, amiamoci gli uni gli altri, perché l'amore è da Dio: chiunque ama è generato da Dio e conosce Dio. Chi non ama non ha conosciuto Dio, perché Dio è amore. In questo si è manifestato l'amore di Dio per noi: Dio ha mandato il suo unigenito Figlio nel mondo, perché noi avessimo la vita per lui. In questo sta l'amore: non siamo stati noi ad amare Dio, ma è lui che ha amato noi e ha mandato il suo Figlio come vittima di espiazione per i nostri peccati.
Vangelo (Giovanni 15: 9–17)
Come il Padre ha amato me, così anch'io ho amato voi. Rimanete nel mio amore. Se osserverete i miei comandamenti, rimarrete nel mio amore, come io ho osservato i comandamenti del Padre mio e rimango nel suo amore. Questo vi ho detto perché la mia gioia sia in voi e la vostra gioia sia piena. Questo è il mio comandamento: che vi amiate gli uni gli altri, come io vi ho amati. Nessuno ha un amore più grande di questo: dare la vita per i propri amici. Voi siete miei amici, se farete ciò che io vi comando. Non vi chiamo più servi, perché il servo non sa quello che fa il suo padrone; ma vi ho chiamati amici, perché tutto ciò che ho udito dal Padre l'ho fatto conoscere a voi. Non voi avete scelto me, ma io ho scelto voi e vi ho costituiti perché andiate e portiate frutto e il vostro frutto rimanga; perché tutto quello che chiederete al Padre nel mio nome, ve lo conceda. そして、ペテロが家に入ると、その前にひれ伏して拝みました。ペテロはそれを押しとどめました。「お立ちなさい。私は神様ではありません。」ペテロは話し始めました。「神様はただユダヤ人だけを愛しておられるのではないことが、はっきりわかりました。神を礼拝し、また良い行いをして神に喜ばれる人は、どこの国にもいるのです。」ペテロがまだ話しているうちに、聖霊が一人一人に下りました。ペテロに同行して来たユダヤ人のクリスチャンたちは、外国人にも聖霊の賜物が与えられたので驚きました。しかし、これは疑う余地のない事実でした。人々は自由にそれぞれ異なった国のことばで話し、神を賛美していたからです。「私たちと同じように聖霊を受けたのですから、この人たちにバプテスマ（洗礼）を授けることに、だれも反対できません。」こうきっぱり言いきると、ペテロは、キリスト・イエスの名によって、バプテスマを授けました。コルネリオはペテロに、数日間、泊まってほしいと頼みました。

愛する人たち。互いに愛し合いましょう。愛は神から出ています。ですから、愛のある人は、その行いによって、自分が神の子供であることを明らかにし、ますます神を知るようになるのです。反対に、愛のない人に神はわかりません。なぜなら神は愛だからです。神は、かけがえのないご自分のひとり子をこの世に遣わし、そのひとり子の死によって、私たちに永遠のいのちを与えてくださいました。そのようにして、どんなに私たちを愛しておられるかを示されたのです。神に対する私たちの愛ではなく、私たちに対する神の愛によって、私たちの罪へのなだめとして、神のひとり子が遣わされました。ここに真の愛があるのです。

愛する者たち、互いに愛し合いましょう。愛は神から出るもので、愛する者は皆、神から生まれ、神を知っているからです。愛することのない者は神を知りません。神は愛だからです。神は、独り子を世にお遣わしになりました。その方によって、わたしたちが生きるようになるためです。ここに、神の愛がわたしたちの内に示されました。わたしたちが神を愛したのではなく、神がわたしたちを愛して、わたしたちの罪を償ういけにえとして、御子をお遣わしになりました。ここに愛があります。
福音書（ヨハネ第15章：第9詩–第17詩）
この読み物はヨハネによる福音書です。
父がわたしを愛されたように、わたしもあなたがたを愛してきた。わたしの愛にとどまりなさい。わたしが父の掟を守り、その愛にとどまっているように、あなたがたも、わたしの掟を守るなら、わたしの愛にとどまっていることになる。これらのことを話したのは、わたしの喜びがあなたがたの内にあり、あなたがたの喜びが満たされるためである。わたしがあなたがたを愛したように、互いに愛し合いなさい。これがわたしの掟である。友のために自分の命を捨てること、これ以上に大きな愛はない。わたしの命じることを行うならば、あなたがたはわたしの友である。もはや、わたしはあなたがたを僕とは呼ばない。僕は主人が何をしているか知らないからである。わたしはあなたがたを友と呼ぶ。父から聞いたことをすべてあなたがたに知らせたからである。あなたがたがわたしを選んだのではない。わたしがあなたがたを選んだ。あなたがたが出かけて行って実を結び、その実が残るようにと、また、わたしの名によって父に願うものは何でも与えられるようにと、わたしがあなたがたを任命したのである。互いに愛し合いなさい。これがわたしの命令である。」
