First reading (Acts 3: 1–10)
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
Now Peter and John were going up to the temple area for the three o’clock hour of prayer. And a man crippled from birth was carried and placed at the gate of the temple called “the Beautiful Gate” every day to beg for alms from the people who entered the temple. When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked for alms. But Peter looked intently at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” He paid attention to them, expecting to receive something from them. Peter said, “I have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, rise and walk.” Then Peter took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles grew strong. He leaped up, stood, and walked around, and went into the temple with them, walking and jumping and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the one who used to sit begging at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with amazement and astonishment at what had happened to him.
Second reading (Galatians 1: 11–20)

Now I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel preached by me is not of human origin. For I did not receive it from a human being, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. For you heard of my former way of life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it, and progressed in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries among my race, since I was even more a zealot for my ancestral traditions. But when God, who from my mother’s womb had set me apart and called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, so that I might proclaim him to the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; rather, I went into Arabia and then returned to Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to confer with Cephas and remained with him for fifteen days. But I did not see any other of the apostles, only James the brother of the Lord. (As to what I am writing to you, behold, before God, I am not lying.)
Gospel (John 21: 15–19)

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He then said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”

Let me remind you, brothers and sisters, that the Gospel we preached to you is not a human message, nor did I receive it from anyone, I was not taught of it but it came to me as a revelation from Christ Jesus. You have heard of my previous activity in the Jewish community; I furiously persecuted the Church of God and tried to destroy it. For I was more devoted to the Jewish religion than many fellow Jews of my age, and I defended the traditions of my ancestors more fanatically. But one day God called me out of his great love, he who had chosen me from my mother's womb; and he was pleased to reveal in me his Son, that I might make him known among the pagan nations. Then I did not seek human advice nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me. I immediately went to Arabia, and from there I returned again to Damascus. Later, after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to meet Cephas, and I stayed with him for fifteen days. But I did not see any other apostle except James, the Lord's brother. On writing this to you, I affirm before God that I am not lying.

About that time King Herod laid hands upon some members of the church to harm them. He had James, the brother of John, killed by the sword, and when he saw that this was pleasing to the Jews he proceeded to arrest Peter also. (It was the feast of Unleavened Bread.) He had him taken into custody and put in prison under the guard of four squads of four soldiers each. He intended to bring him before the people after Passover. Peter thus was being kept in prison, but prayer by the church was fervently being made to God on his behalf. On the very night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter, secured by double chains, was sleeping between two soldiers, while outside the door guards kept watch on the prison. Suddenly the angel of the Lord stood by him and a light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on the side and awakened him, saying, “Get up quickly.” The chains fell from his wrists. The angel said to him, “Put on your belt and your sandals.” He did so. Then he said to him, “Put on your cloak and follow me.” So he followed him out, not realizing that what was happening through the angel was real; he thought he was seeing a vision. They passed the first guard, then the second, and came to the iron gate leading out to the city, which opened for them by itself. They emerged and made their way down an alley, and suddenly the angel left him. Then Peter recovered his senses and said, “Now I know for certain that the Lord sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people had been expecting.”
Second reading (2 Timothy 4: 6–8 and 17–18)

For I am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance. But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the proclamation might be completed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring me safe to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen.

For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

About that time King Herod decided to persecute some members of the Church. He had James, the brother of John, killed with the sword, and when he saw how it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This happened during the festival of the Unleavened Bread. Herod had him seized and thrown into prison with four squads, each of four soldiers, to guard him. He wanted to bring him to trial before the people after the Passover feast, but while Peter was kept in prison, the whole Church prayed earnestly for him. On the very night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound by a double chain, while guards kept watch at the gate of the prison. Suddenly an angel of the Lord stood there and a light shone in the prison cell. The angel tapped Peter on the side and woke him saying, "Get up quickly!" At once the chains fell from Peter's wrists. The angel said, "Put on your belt and your sandals." Peter did so, and the angel added, "Now, put on your cloak and follow me." Peter followed him out; yet he did not realize that what was happening with the angel was real; he thought he was seeing a vision. They passed the first guard and then the second and they came to the iron door leading out to the city, which opened of itself for them. They went out and made their way down a narrow alley, when suddenly the angel left him. As for me the time of sacrifice has arrived, and the moment of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness with which the Lord, the just judge, will reward me on that day; and not only me, but all those who have longed for his glorious coming. But the Lord was at my side, giving me strength to proclaim the Word fully, and let all the pagans hear it. So I was rescued from the lion's mouth. The Lord will save me from all evil, bringing me to his heavenly kingdom. Glory to him forever and ever. Amen!
Gospel (Matthew 16: 13–19)

Había allí un hombre lisiado de nacimiento, a quien diariamente llevaban y ponían ante la puerta llamada la “Hermosa”, para que pidiera limosna a los que entraban en el templo. Aquel hombre, al ver a Pedro y a Juan cuando iban a entrar, les pidió limosna. Pedro y Juan fijaron en él los ojos y Pedro le dijo: “Míranos”. El hombre se quedó mirándolos en espera de que le dieran algo. Entonces Pedro le dijo: “No tengo ni oro ni plata, pero te voy a dar lo que tengo: En el nombre de Jesucristo nazareno, levántate y camina”. Y, tomándolo de la mano, lo incorporó. Al instante sus pies y sus tobillos adquirieron firmeza. De un salto se puso de pie, empezó a andar y entró con ellos al templo caminando, saltando y alabando a Dios. Todo el pueblo lo vio caminar y alabar a Dios, y al darse cuenta de que era el mismo que pedía limosna sentado junto a la puerta “Hermosa” del templo, quedaron llenos de miedo y no salían de su asombro por lo que había sucedido.

Tiap-tiap hari orang itu diletakkan dekat pintu gerbang Bait Allah, yang bernama Gerbang Indah, untuk meminta sedekah kepada orang yang masuk ke dalam Bait Allah. Ketika orang itu melihat, bahwa Petrus dan Yohanes hendak masuk ke Bait Allah, ia meminta sedekah. Mereka menatap dia dan Petrus berkata: "Lihatlah kepada kami." Lalu orang itu menatap mereka dengan harapan akan mendapat sesuatu dari mereka. Tetapi Petrus berkata: "Emas dan perak tidak ada padaku, tetapi apa yang kupunyai, kuberikan kepadamu: Demi nama Yesus Kristus, orang Nazaret itu, berjalanlah!" Lalu ia memegang tangan kanan orang itu dan membantu dia berdiri. Seketika itu juga kuatlah kaki dan mata kaki orang itu. Ia melonjak berdiri lalu berjalan kian ke mari dan mengikuti mereka ke dalam Bait Allah, berjalan dan melompat-lompat serta memuji Allah. Dan di dalam agama Yahudi aku jauh lebih maju dari banyak teman yang sebaya dengan aku di antara bangsaku, sebagai orang yang sangat rajin memelihara adat istiadat nenek moyangku. En una ocasión, Pedro y Juan subían al Templo para la oración de la tarde. Allí encontraron a un paralítico de nacimiento, que ponían diariamente junto a la puerta del Templo llamada "la Hermosa," para pedir limosna a los que entraban. Cuando él vio a Pedro y a Juan entrar en el Templo, les pidió una limosna. Entonces Pedro, fijando la mirada en él, lo mismo que Juan, le dijo: "Míranos." El hombre los miró fijamente esperando que le dieran algo. Pedro le dijo: "No tengo plata ni oro, pero te doy lo que tengo: en el nombre de Jesucristo de Nazaret, levántate y camina." Y tomándolo de la mano derecha, lo levantó; de inmediato, se le fortalecieron los pies y los tobillos. Dando un salto, se puso de pie y comenzó a caminar; y entró con ellos en el Templo, caminando, saltando y glorificando a Dios. Toda la gente lo vio caminar y alabar a Dios. Pero cuando Dios, que me eligió desde el seno de mi madre y me llamó por medio de su gracia, se complació en revelarme a su Hijo, para que yo lo anunciara entre los paganos, de inmediato, sin consultar a ningún hombre y sin subir a Jerusalén para ver a los que eran Apóstoles antes que yo, me fui a Arabia y después regresé a Damasco. Allora Pietro fissò lo sguardo su di lui insieme a Giovanni e disse: “Guarda verso di noi.” Ed egli si volse verso di loro, aspettandosi di ricevere qualche cosa. Ma Pietro gli disse: “Non possiedo né argento né oro, ma quello che ho te lo do: nel nome di Gesù Cristo, il Nazareno, cammina!” E, presolo per la mano destra, lo sollevò. Di colpo i suoi piedi e le caviglie si rinvigorirono e balzato in piedi camminava; ed entrò con loro nel tempio camminando, saltando e lodando Dio. Tutto il popolo lo vide camminare e lodare Dio e riconoscevano che era quello che sedeva a chiedere l'elemosina alla porta Bella del tempio ed erano meravigliati e stupiti per quello che gli era accaduto.

Por aquel entonces, el rey Herodes hizo arrestar a algunos miembros de la Iglesia para maltratarlos. Mandó ejecutar a Santiago, hermano de Juan, y al ver que esto agradaba a los judíos, también hizo arrestar a Pedro. Eran los días de "los panes ácimos." Después de arrestarlo, lo hizo encarcelar, poniéndolo bajo la custodia de cuatro relevos de guardia, de cuatro soldados cada uno. Su intención era hacerlo comparecer ante el pueblo después de la Pascua. Mientras Pedro estaba bajo custodia en la prisión, la Iglesia no cesaba de orar a Dios por él. La noche anterior al día en que Herodes pensaba hacerlo comparecer, Pedro dormía entre los soldados, atado con dos cadenas, y los otros centinelas vigilaban la puerta de la prisión. De pronto, apareció el Ángel del Señor y una luz resplandeció en el calabozo. El Ángel sacudió a Pedro y lo hizo levantar, diciéndole: "¡Levántate rápido!" Entonces las cadenas se le cayeron de las manos. El Ángel le dijo: "Tienes que ponerte el cinturón y las sandalias" y Pedro lo hizo. Después de dijo: "Cúbrete con el manto y sígueme." Pedro salió y lo seguía; no se daba cuenta de que era cierto lo que estaba sucediendo por intervención del Angel, sino que creía tener una visión. Pasaron así el primero y el segundo puesto de guardia, y llegaron a la puerta de hierro que daba a la ciudad. La puerta se abrió sola delante de ellos. Salieron y anduvieron hasta el extremo de una calle, y en seguida el Angel se alejó de él. En aquellos días, el rey Herodes mandó apresar a algunos miembros de la Iglesia para maltratarlos. Mandó pasar a cuchillo a Santiago, hermano de Juan, y viendo que eso agradaba a los judíos, también hizo apresar a Pedro. Esto sucedió durante los días de la fiesta de los panes Ázimos. Después de apresarlo, lo hizo encarcelar y lo puso bajo la vigilancia de cuatro turnos de guardia, de cuatro soldados cada turno. Su intención era hacerlo comparecer ante el pueblo después de la Pascua. Mientras Pedro estaba en la cárcel, la comunidad no cesaba de orar a Dios por él. La noche anterior al día en que Herodes iba a hacerlo comparecer ante el pueblo, Pedro estaba durmiendo entre dos soldados, atado con dos cadenas y los centinelas cuidaban la puerta de la prisión. De pronto apareció el ángel del Señor y el calabozo se llenó de luz. El ángel tocó a Pedro en el costado, lo despertó y le dijo: “Levántate pronto”. Entonces las cadenas que le sujetaban las manos se le cayeron. El ángel le dijo: “Cíñete la túnica y ponte las sandalias”, y Pedro obedeció. Después le dijo: “Ponte el manto y sígueme”. Pedro salió detrás de él, sin saber si era verdad o no lo que el ángel hacía, y le parecía más bien que estaba soñando. Pasaron el primero y el segundo puesto de guardia y llegaron a la puerta de hierro que daba a la calle. La puerta se abrió sola delante de ellos. Salieron y caminaron hasta la esquina de la calle y de pronto el ángel desapareció. Entonces, Pedro se dio cuenta de lo que pasaba y dijo: “Ahora sí estoy seguro de que el Señor envió a su ángel para librarme de las manos de Herodes y de todo cuanto el pueblo judío esperaba que me hicieran”.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 34) (Versículos 2–9)

— El Señor me libró de todos mis temores. Bendeciré al Señor a todas horas, no cesará mi boca de alabarlo. Yo me siento orgulloso del Señor, que se alegren su pueblo al escucharlo.

In quel tempo il re Erode cominciò a perseguitare alcuni membri della Chiesa e fece uccidere di spada Giacomo, fratello di Giovanni. Vedendo che questo era gradito ai Giudei, decise di arrestare anche Pietro. Erano quelli i giorni degli Azzimi. Fattolo catturare, lo gettò in prigione, consegnandolo in custodia a quattro picchetti di quattro soldati ciascuno, col proposito di farlo comparire davanti al popolo dopo la Pasqua. Pietro dunque era tenuto in prigione, mentre una preghiera saliva incessantemente a Dio dalla Chiesa per lui. E in quella notte, quando poi Erode stava per farlo comparire davanti al popolo, Pietro piantonato da due soldati e legato con due catene stava dormendo, mentre davanti alla porta le sentinelle custodivano il carcere. Ed ecco gli si presentò un angelo del Signore e una luce sfolgorò nella cella. Egli toccò il fianco di Pietro, lo destò e disse: “Alzati, in fretta!” E le catene gli caddero dalle mani. E l'angelo a lui: “Mettiti la cintura e legati i sandali.” Ecosì fece. L'angelo disse: “Avvolgiti il mantello, e seguimi!” Pietro uscì e prese a seguirlo, ma non si era ancora accorto che era realtà ciò che stava succedendo per opera dell'angelo: credeva infatti di avere una visione. Essi oltrepassarono la prima guardia e la seconda e arrivarono alla porta di ferro che conduce in città: la porta si aprì da sé davanti a loro. Uscirono, percorsero una strada e a un tratto l'angelo si dileguò da lui. Pietro allora, rientrato in sé, disse: “Ora sono veramente certo che il Signore ha mandato il suo angelo e mi ha strappato dalla mano di Erode e da tutto ciò che si attendeva il popolo dei Giudei.”

Ora mi resta solo la corona di giustizia che il Signore, giusto giudice, mi consegnerà in quel giorno; e non solo a me, ma anche a tutti coloro che attendono con amore la sua manifestazione. Il Signore però mi è stato vicino e mi ha dato forza, perché per mio mezzo si compisse la proclamazione del messaggio e potessero sentirlo tutti i Gentili: e così fui liberato dalla bocca del leone. • Ang kadakilaan niya ay ihayag, at ang ngalan niya'y purihin ng lahat! Ang aking dalangi'y dininig ng Diyos, inalis niya sa akin ang lahat kong takot.
• Nagalak ang aping umasa sa kanya, pagkat di nabigo ang pag-asa nila. Tumatawag sa Diyos ang walang pag-asa, sila'y iniligtas sa hirap at dusa.
• Anghel ang siyang bantay sa may takot sa Diyos, sa mga panganib, sila'y kinukupkop. Tingnan mo at lasapin ang kabutihan ng Panginoon; mapalad ang mga taong nananalig sa kanya.
Ikalawang pagbasa (2 Timoteo 4: 6–8 at 17–18)
Pagbasa mula sa ikalawang sulat ni apostol San Pablo kay Timoteo.
Sapagkat dumating na ang panahon ng pagpanaw ko sa buhay na ito. Ako'y mistulang isang handog na ibinubuhos sa dambana. Pinagbuti ko ang aking pakikipaglaban, natapos ko na ang dapat kong takbuhin, at nanatili akong tapat sa pananampalataya. Kaya naghihintay sa akin ang koronang gantimpala para sa mga namuhay ayon sa kalooban ng Diyos. Sa Araw na iyon, ang Panginoon na siyang makatarungang Hukom, ang siyang magpuputong sa akin ng korona; hindi lamang sa akin, kundi sa lahat ng nananabik sa kanyang pagbabalik. Ngunit sinamahan ako ng Panginoon at binigyan ng lakas upang makapangaral nang lubusan sa lahat ng Hentil, at ako'y naligtas sa tiyak na kamatayan. Ang Panginoon ang magliligtas sa akin sa lahat ng kasamaan at siya rin ang maghahatid sa akin nang ligtas sa kanyang kaharian sa langit. Purihin nawa siya magpakailanman! Amen.

Nang dumating si Jesus sa bayan ng Cesarea ng Filipos, tinanong niya ang kanyang mga alagad, “Sino raw ang Anak ng Tao, ayon sa mga tao?” At sumagot sila, “Ang sabi po ng ilan, kayo si Juan na Tagapagbautismo. Sabi po naman ng iba, kayo si Elias. At may nagsasabi pong kayo si Jeremias, o isa sa mga propeta.” Tinanong ulit sila ni Jesus, “Ngunit para sa inyo, sino ako?” Sumagot si Simon Pedro, “Kayo po ang Cristo, ang Anak ng Diyos na buháy.” Sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Pinagpala ka, Simon na anak ni Jonas! Sapagkat ang katotohanang ito'y hindi inihayag sa iyo ng sinumang tao kundi ng aking Ama na nasa langit. At sinasabi ko sa iyo, ikaw ay Pedro, at sa ibabaw ng batong ito ay itatayo ko ang aking iglesya at ang kapangyarihan ng kamatayan ay hindi magtatagumpay laban sa kanya. Ibibigay ko sa iyo ang mga susi ng kaharian ng langit. Ang ipagbawal mo sa lupa ay ipagbabawal sa langit, at ang ipahintulot mo sa lupa ay ipahihintulot din sa langit.”
