First reading (Genesis 18: 20–33)
A reading from the book of Genesis.
In those days, the LORD said: "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great, and their sin so grave, that I must go down and see whether or not their actions fully correspond to the cry against them that comes to me. I mean to find out." While Abraham's visitors walked on farther toward Sodom, the LORD remained standing before Abraham. Then Abraham drew nearer and said: "Will you sweep away the innocent with the guilty? Suppose there were fifty innocent people in the city; would you wipe out the place, rather than spare it for the sake of the fifty innocent people within it? Far be it from you to do such a thing, to make the innocent die with the guilty so that the innocent and the guilty would be treated alike! Should not the judge of all the world act with justice?" The LORD replied, "If I find fifty innocent people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake." Abraham spoke up again: "See how I am presuming to speak to my Lord, though I am but dust and ashes! What if there are five less than fifty innocent people? Will you destroy the whole city because of those five?" He answered, "I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there." But Abraham persisted, saying "What if only forty are found there?" He replied, "I will forbear doing it for the sake of the forty." Then Abraham said, "Let not my Lord grow impatient if I go on. What if only thirty are found there?" He replied, "I will forbear doing it if I can find but thirty there." Still, Abraham went on, "Since I have thus dared to speak to my Lord, what if there are no more than twenty?" The LORD answered, "I will not destroy it, for the sake of the twenty." But he still persisted: "Please, let not my Lord grow angry if I speak up this last time. What if there are at least ten there?" He replied, "For the sake of those ten, I will not destroy it."
Second reading (Colossians 2: 12–14)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians.
Brothers and sisters: You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. And even when you were dead in transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he brought you to life along with him, having forgiven us all our transgressions; obliterating the bond against us, with its legal claims, which was opposed to us, he also removed it from our midst, nailing it to the cross.
Gospel (Luke 11: 1–13)

Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test." And he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend to whom he goes at midnight and says, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine has arrived at my house from a journey and I have nothing to offer him,' and he says in reply from within, 'Do not bother me; the door has already been locked and my children and I are already in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.' I tell you, if he does not get up to give the visitor the loaves because of their friendship, he will get up to give him whatever he needs because of his persistence. "And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish? Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?"

Then the Lord stated, "How great is the cry for justice against Sodom and Gomorrah! And how grievous is their sin! I am going to see if they have done all that they are charged within the outcry that has reached me. If it is not so, I will know." The men with him turned away and went towards Sodom, but the Lord remained standing before Abraham. Abraham went forward and stated, "Will you really let the just perish with the wicked? Perhaps there are fifty good people in the town. Are you really going to let them perish? Would you not spare the place for the sake of these fifty righteous people? It would not be at all like you to do such a thing and you cannot let the good perish with the wicked, nor treat the good and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the judge of all the earth be just?" Then the Lord stated, "If I find fifty good people in Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake." Abraham spoke up again, "I know that I am very bold to speak like this to my Lord, I who am only dust and ashes! But perhaps the number of the good is five less than fifty. Will you destroy the town because of five?" The Lord replied, "I will not destroy the town if I find forty-five good people there." Again Abraham stated to the Lord, "Perhaps there will be only forty." The Lord answered, "For the sake of forty, I will not do it." Abraham continued, stating, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. Maybe only thirty good people will be found in the town." The Lord answered, "I will not destroy it if I find thirty there." Abraham stated, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to my Lord, what if only twenty can be found?" He stated, "For they speak of twenty, I will not destroy the place." But Abraham insisted, "May my Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found?" And the Lord answered, "For the sake of ten good people, I will not destroy Sodom." When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham went home.
Second reading (Colossians 2: 12–14)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians.
Brothers and sisters: I refer to baptism. On receiving it you were buried with Christ, and you also rose with him for having believed in the power of God who raised him from the dead. You were dead. You were in sin and uncircumcised at the same time. But God gave you life with Christ. He forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of our debts, those regulations which accused us. He did away with all that and nailed it to the cross.

And if your child asks for an egg, will you give a scorpion? Even you evil people know how to give good gifts to your children; then how much more will the Father in heaven give holy spirit to those who ask him?"

Dijo entonces el Señor: “La denuncia contra Sodoma y Gomorra es terrible, y su pecado es grande. Voy a visitarlos, y comprobaré si han actuado según esas denuncias que han llegado hasta mí. Si no es así, lo sabré.” Los hombres partieron y se dirigieron a Sodoma, mientras el Señor se quedaba de pie delante de Abraham. Se acercó entonces Abraham y le dijo: “¿Es cierto que vas a exterminar al justo junto con el malvado? Tal vez haya cincuenta justos dentro de la ciudad: ¿es cierto que vas a acabar con todos y no perdonar el lugar en atención a esos cincuenta justos? ¡Tú no vas a hacer algo semejante, permitir que el bueno sea tratado igual que el malvado! ¿O es que el juez de toda la tierra no aceptará lo que es justo?” El Señor le dijo: “Si encuentro en Sodoma cincuenta justos dentro de la ciudad, perdonaré a todo el lugar en atención a ellos.” Abraham volvió a hablar: “Sé que a lo mejor es un atrevimiento hablar a mi Señor, yo que soy polvo y ceniza, pero si faltan cinco justos para llegar a los cincuenta, ¿destruirás la ciudad por esos cinco que faltan?” El Señor respondió: “No habrá destrucción si encuentro allí cuarenta y cinco hombres justos.” Abraham insistió: “Pero a lo mejor se encuentran allí sólo cuarenta justos.” El Señor contestó: “En atención a esos cuarenta, no lo haré.” Abraham continuó todavía: “No se enoje mi Señor si sigo hablando, pero tal vez no se encuentren más que treinta justos.” El Señor contestó: “No lo haré si encuentro allí treinta justos.” Abraham insistió: “Sé que es una osadía por mi parte hablar así a mi Señor; pero, ¿y si se encuentran allí solamente veinte justos?” El Señor contestó: “No destruiré el lugar, en atención a esos veinte.” Abraham dijo: “Vaya, no se enoje mi Señor, y hablaré por última vez. Puede ser que se encuentren allí sólo diez.” El Señor dijo: “En atención a esos diez, no destruiré la ciudad.” Cuando el Señor terminó de hablar con Abraham se fue, mientras Abraham volvió a su casa.
Salmo responsivo (Salmo 138) (Versículos 1–3 y 6–8)
La respuesta es: Cuando te invoqué, Señor, me escuchaste.
• Te doy gracias, Señor, de todo corazón, te cantaré en presencia de los ángeles. Me postraré ante tu santo Templo, y daré gracias a tu Nombre.
• Te daré gracias por tu amor y tu fidelidad, y tu promesa ha superado tu renombre. Me respondiste cada vez que te invoqué y aumentaste la fuerza de mi alma.

En el bautismo, ustedes fueron sepultados con él, y con él resucitaron, por la fe en el poder de Dios que lo resucitó de entre los muertos. Ustedes estaban muertos a causa de sus pecados y de la incircuncisión de su carne, pero Cristo los hizo revivir con él, perdonando todas nuestras faltas. Él canceló el acta de condenación que nos era contraria, con todas sus cláusulas, y la hizo desaparecer clavándola en la cruz.

Jesús agregó: “Supongamos que algunos de ustedes tiene un amigo y recurre a él a medianoche, para decirle: ‘Amigo, préstame tres panes, porque uno de mis amigos llegó de viaje y no tengo nada que ofrecerle’, y desde adentro él le responde: ‘No me fastidies; ahora la puerta está cerrada, y mis hijos y yo estamos acostados. No puedo levantarme para dártelos’. Yo les aseguro que aunque él no se levante para dárselos por ser su amigo, se levantará al menos a causa de su insistencia y le dará todo lo necesario. También les aseguro: pidan y se les dará, busquen y encontrarán, llamen y se les abrirá. Porque el que pide, recibe; el que busca, encuentra; y al que llama, se le abre. ¿Hay entre ustedes algún padre que da a su hijo una piedra cuando le pide pan? ¿Y si le pide un pescado, le dará en su lugar una serpiente? ¿Y si le pide un huevo, le dará un escorpión? Si ustedes, que son malos, saben dar cosas buenas a sus hijos, cuánto más el Padre del cielo dará el Espíritu Santo a aquellos que se lo pidan”.

En aquellos días, el Señor dijo a Abraham: "El clamor contra Sodoma y Gomorra es grande y su pecado es demasiado grave. Bajaré, pues, a ver si sus hechos corresponden a ese clamor; y si no, lo sabré". Los hombres que estaban con Abraham se despidieron de él y se encaminaron hacia Sodoma. Abraham se quedó ante el Señor y le preguntó: "¿Será posible que tú destruyas al inocente junto con el culpable? Supongamos que hay cincuenta justos en la ciudad, ¿acabarás con todos ellos y no perdonarás al lugar en atención a esos cincuenta justos? Lejos de ti tal cosa: matar al inocente junto con el culpable, de manera que la suerte del justo sea como la del malvado; eso no puede ser. El juez de todo el mundo ¿no hará justicia?" El Señor le contestó: "Si encuentro en Sodoma cincuenta justos, perdonaré a toda la ciudad en atención a ellos". Abraham insistió: "Me he atrevido a hablar a mi Señor, yo que soy polvo y ceniza. Supongamos que faltan cinco para los cincuenta justos, ¿por esos cinco que faltan, destruirás toda la ciudad?" Y le respondió el Señor: "No la destruiré, si encuentro allí cuarenta y cinco justos". Kaya't bababâ ako roon at aalamin ko kung totoo o hindi ang paratang laban sa kanila.” Umalis nga ang mga lalaki at nagpunta sa Sodoma, ngunit naroon pa rin ang Panginoon sa tabi ni Abraham. Itinanong ni Abraham, “Lilipulin po ba ninyo ang lahat ng tao, ang mabubuti kasama ng masasama? Sakali pong may limampung mabubuting tao sa lunsod, wawasakin pa rin ba ninyo iyon? Hindi po ba ninyo patatawarin ang lunsod alang-alang sa limampung iyon? Naniniwala po akong hindi ninyo idaramay ang mabubuti. Hindi ninyo gagawin iyon sapagkat kung ganito ang mangyayari, parehong magdurusa ang masama at ang mabuti. Hindi ninyo magagawa iyon! Makatarungan ang Hukom ng buong daigdig!” At sumagot ang Panginoon, “Hindi ko wawasakin ang lunsod alang-alang sa limampung mabubuting tao.” “Ipagpaumanhin po ninyo ang aking kapangahasan,” wika ni Abraham, “wala po akong karapatang magsalita sa inyo, sapagkat ako'y isang hamak na tao lamang. Kung wala pong limampu, at apatnapu't lima lamang ang mabubuti, wawasakin pa rin ba ninyo ang lunsod?” “Hindi, hindi ko wawasakin alang-alang sa apatnapu't limang iyon,” tugon ng Panginoon. Nagtanong muli si Abraham, “Kung apatnapu lamang?” “Hindi ko wawasakin ang lunsod alang-alang sa apatnapung iyon,” tugon sa kanya. “Huwag sana kayong magagalit, magtatanong pa ako. Kung tatlumpu lamang ang mabuting tao roon, wawasakin ba ninyo?” Sinagot siya, “Hindi ko wawasakin ang lunsod alang-alang sa tatlumpung iyon.” Sinabi pa ni Abraham, “Mangangahas po uli ako. Kung dalawampu na lamang ang mabubuting tao roon?” “Hindi ko pa rin wawasakin ang lunsod alang-alang sa dalawampung iyon,” muling sagot sa kanya. Sa huling pagkakataon ay nagtanong si Abraham, “Ito na po lamang ang itatanong ko: Paano po kung sampu lamang ang mabubuting tao roon?” “Hindi ko pa rin wawasakin ang lunsod alang-alang sa sampung iyon,” sagot ng Panginoon. Pagkasabi nito, umalis na ang Panginoon at umuwi naman si Abraham.
Ikalawang pagbasa (Colosas 2: 12–14)
Pagbasa mula sa sulat ni San Pablo sa mga taga-Colosas.
Sa pamamagitan ng bautismo, nailibing kayong kasama ni Cristo at muli rin kayong nabuhay na kasama niya dahil sa inyong pananalig sa kapangyarihan ng Diyos na muling bumuhay sa kanya. Kayong dating patay dahil sa kasalanan, kayong mga Hentil na hindi saklaw ng pagtutuli ayon sa Kautusan ay binuhay ng Diyos na kasama ni Cristo. Pinatawad niya ang ating mga kasalanan at pinawalang-bisa ang lahat ng naisulat na alituntunin laban sa atin, pati ang mga pananagutang kaugnay nito. Pinawi niya ang lahat ng ito nang ipako siya sa krus.

Dumating nawa ang iyong kaharian. Bigyan mo kami ng aming pagkain sa araw-araw. At patawarin mo kami sa aming mga kasalanan, sapagkat pinapatawad namin ang bawat nagkakasala sa amin. At huwag mo kaming hayaang matukso.’” Sinabi pa rin niya sa kanila, “Ipalagay nating isang hatinggabi, isa sa inyo'y nagpunta sa isa ninyong kaibigan at nakiusap, ‘Kaibigan, pahiram muna ng tatlong tinapay. Dumating kasi ang isa kong kaibigang naglalakbay at wala akong maihain sa kanya!’ At ganito naman ang sagot ng kaibigan mong nasa loob ng bahay, ‘Huwag mo akong gambalain! Kaya't sinasabi ko sa inyo, humingi kayo at kayo'y bibigyan; humanap kayo at kayo'y makakatagpo; kumatok kayo at kayo'y pagbubuksan. Sapagkat ang bawat humihingi ay tatanggap; ang bawat humahanap ay makakatagpo; at ang bawat kumakatok ay pagbubuksan. Kayong mga ama, bibigyan ba ninyo ng ahas ang inyong anak kung ito'y humihingi ng isda? Bibigyan ba ninyo siya ng alakdan kung siya'y humihingi ng itlog? Kayo ngang masasama ay marunong magbigay ng mabubuting kaloob sa inyong mga anak. Lalo na ang inyong Ama na nasa langit, na magbibigay ng Espiritu Santo sa mga humihingi sa kanya!”

Sesudah itu berfirmanlah TUHAN: "Sesungguhnya banyak keluh kesah orang tentang Sodom dan Gomora dan sesungguhnya sangat berat dosanya. Baiklah Aku turun untuk melihat, apakah benar-benar mereka telah berkelakuan seperti keluh kesah orang yang telah sampai kepada-Ku atau tidak; Aku hendak mengetahuinya." Lalu berpalinglah orang-orang itu dari situ dan berjalan ke Sodom, tetapi Abraham masih tetap berdiri di hadapan TUHAN. Abraham datang mendekat dan berkata: "Apakah Engkau akan melenyapkan orang benar bersama-sama dengan orang fasik? Bagaimana sekiranya ada lima puluh orang benar dalam kota itu? Apakah Engkau akan melenyapkan tempat itu dan tidakkah Engkau mengampuninya karena kelima puluh orang benar yang ada di dalamnya itu? Jauhlah kiranya dari pada-Mu untuk berbuat demikian, membunuh orang benar bersama-sama dengan orang fasik, sehingga orang benar itu seolah-olah sama dengan orang fasik! Jauhlah kiranya yang demikian dari pada-Mu! Masakan Hakim segenap bumi tidak menghukum dengan adil?" TUHAN berfirman: "Jika Kudapati lima puluh orang benar dalam kota Sodom, Aku akan mengampuni seluruh tempat itu karena mereka." Abraham menyahut: "Sesungguhnya aku telah memberanikan diri berkata kepada Tuhan, walaupun aku debu dan abu. Sekiranya kurang lima orang dari kelima puluh orang benar itu, apakah Engkau akan memusnahkan seluruh kota itu karena yang lima itu?" Firman-Nya: "Aku tidak memusnahkannya, jika Kudapati empat puluh lima di sana." Lagi Abraham melanjutkan perkataannya kepada-Nya: "Sekiranya empat puluh didapati di sana?" Firman-Nya: "Aku tidak akan berbuat demikian karena yang empat puluh itu." Katanya: "Janganlah kiranya Tuhan murka, kalau aku berkata sekali lagi. Sekiranya tiga puluh didapati di sana?" Firman-Nya: "Aku tidak akan berbuat demikian, jika Kudapati tiga puluh di sana." Katanya: "Sesungguhnya aku telah memberanikan diri berkata kepada Tuhan. Sekiranya dua puluh didapati di sana?" Firman-Nya: "Aku tidak akan memusnahkannya karena yang dua puluh itu." Katanya: "Janganlah kiranya Tuhan murka, kalau aku berkata lagi sekali ini saja. Sekiranya sepuluh didapati di sana?" Firman-Nya: "Aku tidak akan memusnahkannya karena yang sepuluh itu." Lalu pergilah TUHAN, setelah Ia selesai berfirman kepada Abraham; dan kembalilah Abraham ke tempat tinggalnya.
Mazmur (Mazmur 138) (Ayat 1–3 dan 6–8)
Tanggapan adalah: Saat aku panggil TUHAN, Anda menjawab aku.
— Aku hendak bersyukur kepada-Mu dengan segenap hatiku, di hadapan para allah aku akan bermazmur bagi-Mu.
— Aku hendak sujud ke arah bait-Mu yang kudus dan memuji nama-Mu, oleh karena kasih-Mu dan oleh karena setia-Mu; sebab Kaubuat nama-Mu dan janji-Mu melebihi segala sesuatu. Pada hari aku berseru, Engkaupun menjawab aku, Engkau menambahkan kekuatan dalam jiwaku.

Kamu juga, meskipun dahulu mati oleh pelanggaranmu dan oleh karena tidak disunat secara lahiriah, telah dihidupkan Allah bersama-sama dengan Dia, sesudah Ia mengampuni segala pelanggaran kita, dengan menghapuskan surat hutang, yang oleh ketentuan-ketentuan hukum mendakwa dan mengancam kita. Oleh karena itu Aku berkata kepadamu: Mintalah, maka akan diberikan kepadamu; carilah, maka kamu akan mendapat; ketoklah, maka pintu akan dibukakan bagimu. Karena setiap orang yang meminta, menerima dan setiap orang yang mencari, mendapat dan setiap orang yang mengetok, baginya pintu dibukakan. Bapa manakah di antara kamu, jika anaknya minta ikan dari padanya, akan memberikan ular kepada anaknya itu ganti ikan? Atau, jika ia minta telur, akan memberikan kepadanya kalajengking? ですから、古い性質はキリストと共に死に、共に葬られたのです。そして、キリストを死者の中から復活させた、力ある神のことばを信じたあなたがたは、キリストと共に、新しいいのちへと復活させていただいたのです。あなたがたは、以前は罪の中で死んでいましたが、神は、そんなあなたがたをキリストと共に生かしてくださいました。それは、すべての罪を赦し、神の定めに違反したことが記されているあなたがたに不利な証書を、塗りつぶしてしまわれたからです。この罪の証書は、キリストの十字架と共に釘づけにされて無効となったのです。

Disse allora il Signore: "Il grido contro Sòdoma e Gomorra è troppo grande e il loro peccato è molto grave. Voglio scendere a vedere se proprio hanno fatto tutto il male di cui è giunto il grido fino a me; lo voglio sapere!" Quegli uomini partirono di lì e andarono verso Sòdoma, mentre Abramo stava ancora davanti al Signore. Allora Abramo gli si avvicinò e gli disse: "Davvero sterminerai il giusto con l'empio? Forse vi sono cinquanta giusti nella città: davvero li vuoi sopprimere? E non perdonerai a quel luogo per riguardo ai cinquanta giusti che vi si trovano? Lungi da te il far morire il giusto con l'empio, così che il giusto sia trattato come l'empio; lungi da te! Forse il giudice di tutta la terra non praticherà la giustizia?" Rispose il Signore: "Se a Sòdoma troverò cinquanta giusti nell'ambito della città, per riguardo a loro perdonerò a tutta la città." Abramo riprese e disse: "Vedi come ardisco parlare al mio Signore, io che sono polvere e cenere… Forse ai cinquanta giusti ne mancheranno cinque; per questi cinque distruggerai tutta la città?" Forse là se ne troveranno venti." Rispose: "Non la distruggerò per riguardo a quei venti." Riprese: "Non si adiri il mio Signore, se parlo ancora una volta sola; forse là se ne troveranno dieci." Rispose: "Non la distruggerò per riguardo a quei dieci." Poi il Signore, come ebbe finito di parlare con Abramo, se ne andò e Abramo ritornò alla sua abitazione.
Seconda lettura (Colossesi 2: 12–14)
Una lettura dalla lettera di san Paolo apostolo ai Colossesi.
Con lui infatti siete stati sepolti insieme nel battesimo, in lui anche siete stati insieme risuscitati per la fede nella potenza di Dio, che lo ha risuscitato dai morti. Con lui Dio ha dato vita anche a voi, che eravate morti per i vostri peccati e per l'incirconcisione della vostra carne, perdonandoci tutti i peccati, annullando il documento scritto del nostro debito, le cui condizioni ci erano sfavorevoli. Egli lo ha tolto di mezzo inchiodandolo alla croce.
Vangelo (Luca 11: 1–13)

Un giorno Gesù si trovava in un luogo a pregare e quando ebbe finito uno dei discepoli gli disse: "Signore, insegnaci a pregare, come anche Giovanni ha insegnato ai suoi discepoli." Ed egli disse loro: "Quando pregate, dite: 'Padre, sia santificato il tuo nome, venga il tuo regno; dacci ogni giorno il nostro pane quotidiano, e perdonaci i nostri peccati, perché anche noi perdoniamo ad ogni nostro debitore, e non ci indurre in tentazione.'" Poi aggiunse: "Se uno di voi ha un amico e va da lui a mezzanotte a dirgli: Amico, prestami tre pani, perché è giunto da me un amico da un viaggio e non ho nulla da mettergli davanti; e se quegli dall'interno gli risponde: Non m'importunare, la porta è gia chiusa e i miei bambini sono a letto con me, non posso alzarmi per darteli; vi dico che, se anche non si alzerà a darglieli per amicizia, si alzerà a dargliene quanti gliene occorrono almeno per la sua insistenza. Ebbene io vi dico: Chiedete e vi sarà dato, cercate e troverete, bussate e vi sarà aperto. Perché chi chiede ottiene, chi cerca trova, e a chi bussa sarà aperto. Quale padre tra voi, se il figlio gli chiede un pane, gli darà una pietra? O se gli chiede un pesce, gli darà al posto del pesce una serpe? O se gli chiede un uovo, gli darà uno scorpione? Se dunque voi, che siete cattivi, sapete dare cose buone ai vostri figli, quanto più il Padre vostro celeste darà lo Spirito Santo a coloro che glielo chiedono!"
