First reading (Sirach 35: 12–14 and 16–18)
A reading from the book of Sirach.
The LORD is a God of justice, who knows no favorites. Though not unduly partial toward the weak, yet he hears the cry of the oppressed. The Lord is not deaf to the wail of the orphan, nor to the widow when she pours out her complaint. The one who serves God willingly is heard; his petition reaches the heavens. The prayer of the lowly pierces the clouds; it does not rest till it reaches its goal, nor will it withdraw till the Most High responds, judges justly and affirms the right, and the Lord will not delay.
Second reading (2 Timothy 4: 6–8 and 16–18)
A reading from the second letter of Saint Paul to Timothy.
Beloved: I am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance. At my first defense, no one appeared on my behalf, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them! But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the proclamation might be completed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring me safe to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Gospel (Luke 18: 9–14)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.
Jesus addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness and despised everyone else. "Two people went up to the temple area to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector. The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, 'O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity —greedy, dishonest, adulterous — or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, and I pay tithes on my whole income.' But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, 'O God, be merciful to me a sinner.' I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

The Lord is judge and shows no partiality. He will not disadvantage the poor, he who hears the prayer of the oppressed. He does not disdain the plea of the orphan, nor the complaint of the widow. The one who serves God wholeheartedly will be heard; his petition will reach the clouds. The prayer of the humble person pierces the clouds, and he is not consoled until he has been heard. His prayer will not cease until the Most High has looked down, until justice has been done in favor of the righteous.
Second reading (2 Timothy 4: 6–8 and 16–18)
A reading from the second letter of Saint Paul to Timothy.
Beloved: As for me, the time of sacrifice has arrived, and the moment of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness with which the Lord, the just judge, will reward me on that day; and not only me, but all those have longed for his glorious coming. At my first hearing in court, no one supported me; all deserted me. May the Lord not hold it against them. But the Lord was at my side, giving me strength to proclaim the Word fully, and let all the pagans hear it. So I was rescued from the lion's mouth. The Lord will save me from all evil, bringing me to his heavenly kingdom. Glory to him forever and ever! Amen!
Gospel (Luke 18: 9–14)

Jesus told another parable to some persons fully convinced of their own righteousness, who looked down on others, "Two men went up to the Temple to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and stated: 'I thank you, God, that I am not like other people, grasping, crooked, adulterous, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all my income to the Temple.' In the meantime, the tax collector, standing far off, would not lift his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast stating: 'O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.' I tell you, when this man went down to his house, he had been set right with God, but not the other. For whoever makes himself out to be great will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be raised."

I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall be ever in my mouth. Let my soul glory in the LORD; the lowly will hear me and be glad.
The LORD confronts the evildoers, to destroy remembrance of them from the earth. When the just cry out, the Lord hears them, and from all their distress he rescues them.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves. The LORD redeems the lives of his servants; no one incurs guilt who takes refuge in him.

I will bless the Lord in all my days; his praise will be ever on my lips. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the lowly hear and rejoice.
But his face is set against the wicked to destroy their memory from the earth. The Lord hears the cry from the righteous and rescues them from all their troubles.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves the distraught. Many are the troubles of the just, but the Lord delivers them from all.

Primera lectura (Eclesiástico 35: 12–14 y 16–18)

Porque el Señor es juez y no hace distinción de personas: no se muestra parcial contra el pobre y escucha la súplica del oprimido; no desoye la plegaria del huérfano, ni a la viuda, cuando expone su queja. El que rinde el culto que agrada al Señor, es aceptado, y su plegaria llega hasta las nubes. La súplica del humilde atraviesa las nubes y mientras no llega a su destino, él no se consuela: no desiste hasta que el Altísimo interviene, para juzgar a los justos y hacerles justicia.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 34) (Versículos 2–3 y 17–20)
La respuesta es: El Señor oye las quejas de los pobres.
• Bendeciré al Señor en todo tiempo, su alabanza estará siempre en mis labios. Mi alma se gloría en el Señor; que lo oigan los humildes y se alegren.
• Pero el Señor rechaza a los que hacen el mal para borrar su recuerdo de la tierra. Cuando ellos claman, el Señor los escucha y los libra de todas sus angustias.
• El Señor está cerca del que sufre y salva a los que están abatidos. El justo padece muchos males, pero el Señor lo libra de ellos.
Segunda lectura (2 Timoteo 4: 6–8 y 16–18)

Yo ya estoy a punto de ser derramado como una libación, y el momento de mi partida se aproxima: he peleado hasta el fin el buen combate, concluí mi carrera, conservé la fe. Y ya está preparada para mí la corona de justicia, que el Señor, como justo Juez, me dará en ese Día, y no solamente a mí, sino a todos los que hay aguardado con amor su Manifestación. Cuando hice mi primera defensa, nadie me acompañó, sino que todos me abandonaron. ¡Ojalá que no les sea tenido en cuenta! Pero el Señor estuvo a mi lado, dándome fuerzas, para que el mensaje fuera proclamado por mi intermedio y llegara a oídos de todos los paganos. Así fui librado de la boca del león. El Señor me librará de todo mal y me preservará hasta que entre en su Reino celestial. ¡A él sea la gloria por los siglos de los siglos! Amén.
Evangelio (Lucas 18: 9–14)

Y refiriéndose a algunos que se tenían por justos y despreciaban a los demás, Jesús dijo también esta parábola: “Dos hombres subieron al Templo para orar; uno era fariseo y el otro, publicano. El fariseo, de pie, oraba así: ‘Dios mío, te doy gracias porque no soy como los demás hombres, que son ladrones, injustos y adúlteros; ni tampoco como ese publicano. Ayuno dos veces por semana y pago la décima parte de todas mis entradas.’ En cambio el publicano, manteniéndose a distancia, no se animaba siquiera a levantar los ojos al cielo, sino que se golpeaba el pecho, diciendo: ‘¡Dios mío, ten piedad de mí, que soy un pecador!’ Les aseguro que este último volvió a su casa justificada, pero no el primero. Porque todo el que se ensalza será humillado y el que se humilla será ensalzado.”

El Señor es un juez que no se deja impresionar por apariencias. No menosprecia a nadie por ser pobre y escucha las súplicas del oprimido. No desoye los gritos angustiosos del huérfano ni las quejas insistentes de la viuda. Quien sirve a Dios con todo su corazón es oído y su plegaria llega hasta el cielo. La oración del humilde atraviesa las nubes, y mientras él no obtiene lo que pide, permanece sin descanso y no desiste, hasta que el Altísimo lo atiende y el justo juez le hace justicia.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 34) (Versículos 2–3 y 17–20)
La respuesta es: El Señor no está lejos de sus fieles.
— Bendeciré al Señor a todas horas, no cesará mi boca de alabarlo. Yo me siento orgulloso del Señor, que se alegre su pueblo al escucharlo.
— En contra del malvado está el Señor, para borrar de la tierra su recuerdo. Escucha, en cambio, al hombre justo y lo libra de todas sus congojas.

Querido hermano: Para mí ha llegado la hora del sacrificio y se acerca el momento de mi partida. He luchado bien en el combate, he corrido hasta la meta, he perseverado en la fe. Ahora sólo espero la corona merecida, con la que el Señor, justo juez, me premiará en aquel día, y no solamente a mí, sino a todos aquellos que esperan con amor su glorioso advenimiento. La primera vez que me defendí ante el tribunal, nadie me ayudó. Todos me abandonaron. Que no se les tome en cuenta. Pero el Señor estuvo a mi lado y me dio fuerzas para que, por mi medio, se proclamara claramente el mensaje de salvación y lo oyeran todos los paganos. Y fui librado de las fauces del león. El Señor me seguirá librando de todos los peligros y me llevará salvo a su Reino celestial. A él la gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.

Ang Panginoon ay Diyos ng katarungan, wala siyang itinatanging sinuman. Hindi siya kumikiling kaninuman laban sa mahirap, sa halip, agad niyang dinirinig ang naaapi. Lagi niyang dinirinig ang daing ng ulila, at ang pagsusumamo ng biyudang nagsasaysay ng nangyari sa kanya. Kinalulugdan ng Diyos ang naglilingkod sa kanya nang buong puso, ang panalangin nito'y agad nakakaabot sa langit. Ang dalangin ng mapagpakumbaba ay tumatagos sa mga ulap at hindi tumitigil hanggang di umaabot sa Panginoon; hindi humihinto hanggang di pinapansin ng Kataas-taasan, at iginagawad ang katarungan para sa mga taong nasa katuwiran. Sebab Tuhan adalah Hakim, yang tidak memihak. Ia tidak memihak dalam perkara orang miskin, tetapi doa orang yang terjepit didengarkan-Nya. Jeritan yatim piatu tidak diabaikan-Nya, ataupun jeritan janda yang mencurahkan permohonannya. Tuhan berkenan kepada siapa yang dengan sebulat hati berbakti kepada-Nya, dan doanya naik sampai ke awan. Doa orang miskin menembusi awan, dan ia tidak akan terhibur sampai mencapai tujuannya. Ia tidak berhenti hingga Yang Mahatinggi memandangnya, dan memberikan hak kepada orang benar dan menjalankan pengadilan.

Sekarang telah tersedia bagiku mahkota kebenaran yang akan dikaruniakan kepadaku oleh Tuhan, Hakim yang adil, pada hari-Nya; tetapi bukan hanya kepadaku, melainkan juga kepada semua orang yang merindukan kedatangan-Nya. Pada waktu pembelaanku yang pertama tidak seorang pun yang membantu aku, semuanya meninggalkan aku – kiranya hal itu jangan ditanggungkan atas mereka –, tetapi Tuhan telah mendampingi aku dan menguatkan aku, supaya dengan perantaraanku Injil diberitakan dengan sepenuhnya dan semua orang bukan Yahudi mendengarkannya. Dengan demikian aku lepas dari mulut singa. Dan Tuhan akan melepaskan aku dari setiap usaha yang jahat. Dia akan menyelamatkan aku, sehingga aku masuk ke dalam Kerajaan-Nya di surga. 主は裁く方であり、人を偏り見られることはないからだ。貧しいからといって主はえこひいきされないが、虐げられている者の祈りを聞き入れられる。主はみなしごの願いを無視されず、やもめの訴える苦情を顧みられる。御旨に従って主に仕える人は受け入れられ、その祈りは雲にまで届く。謙虚な人の祈りは、雲を突き抜けて行き、それが主に届くまで、彼は慰めを得ない。彼は祈り続ける。いと高き方が彼を訪れ、正しい人々のために裁きをなし、正義を行われるときまで。

わたし自身は、既にいけにえとして献げられています。世を去る時が近づきました。わたしは、戦いを立派に戦い抜き、決められた道を走りとおし、信仰を守り抜きました。今や、義の栄冠を受けるばかりです。正しい審判者である主が、かの日にそれをわたしに授けてくださるのです。しかし、わたしだけでなく、主が来られるのをひたすら待ち望む人には、だれにでも授けてくださいます。わたしの最初の弁明のときには、だれも助けてくれず、皆わたしを見捨てました。彼らにその責めが負わされませんように。しかし、わたしを通して福音があまねく宣べ伝えられ、すべての民族がそれを聞くようになるために、主はわたしのそばにいて、力づけてくださいました。そして、わたしは獅子の口から救われました。主はわたしをすべての悪い業から助け出し、天にある御自分の国へ救い入れてくださいます。主に栄光が世々限りなくありますように、アーメン。

Perché il Signore è giudice e non v'è presso di lui preferenza di persone. Non è parziale con nessuno contro il povero, anzi ascolta proprio la preghiera dell'oppresso. Non trascura la supplica dell'orfano né la vedova, quando si sfoga nel lamento. Chi venera Dio sarà accolto con benevolenza, la sua preghiera giungerà fino alle nubi. La preghiera dell'umile penetra le nubi, finché non sia arrivata, non si contenta; non desiste finché l'Altissimo non sia intervenuto, rendendo soddisfazione ai giusti e ristabilendo l'equità.

Quanto a me, il mio sangue sta per essere sparso in libagione ed è giunto il momento di sciogliere le vele. Ho combattuto la buona battaglia, ho terminato la mia corsa, ho conservato la fede. Ora mi resta solo la corona di giustizia che il Signore, giusto giudice, mi consegnerà in quel giorno; e non solo a me, ma anche a tutti coloro che attendono con amore la sua manifestazione. Nella mia prima difesa in tribunale nessuno mi ha assistito; tutti mi hanno abbandonato. Non se ne tenga conto contro di loro. Il Signore però mi è stato vicino e mi ha dato forza, perché per mio mezzo si compisse la proclamazione del messaggio e potessero sentirlo tutti i Gentili: e così fui liberato dalla bocca del leone. Il Signore mi libererà da ogni male e mi salverà per il suo regno eterno; a lui la gloria nei secoli dei secoli. Amen.
Vangelo (Luca 18: 9–14)
Una lettura del Santo Vangelo secondo San Luca.
Disse ancora questa parabola per alcuni che presumevano di esser giusti e disprezzavano gli altri: “Due uomini salirono al tempio a pregare: uno era fariseo e l'altro pubblicano. Il fariseo, stando in piedi, pregava così tra sé: ‘O Dio, ti ringrazio che non sono come gli altri uomini, ladri, ingiusti, adùlteri, e neppure come questo pubblicano. Digiuno due volte la settimana e pago le decime di quanto possiedo.’ Il pubblicano invece, fermatosi a distanza, non osava nemmeno alzare gli occhi al cielo, ma si batteva il petto dicendo: ‘O Dio, abbi pietà di me peccatore.’ Io vi dico: questi tornò a casa sua giustificato, a differenza dell'altro, perché chi si esalta sarà umiliato e chi si umilia sarà esaltato.”
