After Jesus had been taken up to heaven the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey away. When they entered the city they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
Second reading (1 Peter 4: 13–16)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Peter.
Beloved: Rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. But let no one among you be made to suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as an intriguer. But whoever is made to suffer as a Christian should not be ashamed but glorify God because of the name.
Gospel (John 17: 1–11a)

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you, just as you gave him authority over all people, so that your son may give eternal life to all you gave him. Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ. I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do. Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began. “I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world. A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
In the first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all that Jesus did and taught until the day he was taken up, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. He presented himself alive to them by many proofs after he had suffered, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While meeting with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for "the promise of the Father about which you have heard me speak; for John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." When they had gathered together they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" He answered them, "It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them. They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven."

May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones, and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe, in accord with the exercise of his great might, which he worked in Christ, raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens, far above every principality, authority, power, and dominion, and every name that is named not only in this age but also in the one to come. When they had come together, they asked him, "Is it now that you will restore the Kingdom of Israel?" Second reading (Ephesians 1: 17–23)

May the God of Christ Jesus our Lord, the Father of Glory, reveal himself to you and give you a spirit of wisdom, that you may know him. May he enlighten your inner vision, that you may appreciate the things we hope for, since we were called by God. May you know how great is the inheritance, the glory, God sets apart for his saints; my you understand with what extraordinary power he acts in favor of us who believe. He revealed his almighty power in Christ when he raised him from the dead and had him sit at his right hand in heaven, far above all rule, power, authority, dominion, or any other supernatural force that could be named, not only in this world but in the world to come as well. Thus has God put all things under the feet of Christ and set him above all things, as head of the Church which is his body. He who fills all in all unfolds his fullness in the Church.
Gospel (Matthew 28: 16–20)

As for the Eleven disciples, they went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw Jesus, they bowed before him, although some doubted. The ecclesiastical provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Omaha, and Philadelphia celebrates the 7th Sunday of Easter, while all other U.S. ecclesiastical provinces celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. For all the other U.S. ecclesiastical provinces, the readings of the Ascension of the Lord are used.

Cuando llegaron a la ciudad, subieron a la sala donde solían reunirse. Eran Pedro, Juan, Santiago, Andrés, Felipe y Tomás, Bartolomé, Mateo, Santiago, hijo de Alfeo, Simón el Zelote y Judas, hijo de Santiago. Hai Teofilus, dalam bukuku yang pertama aku menulis tentang segala sesuatu yang dikerjakan dan diajarkan Yesus, sampai pada hari Ia terangkat. Sebelum itu Ia telah memberi perintah-Nya oleh Roh Kudus kepada rasul-rasul yang dipilih-Nya. Kepada mereka Ia menunjukkan diri-Nya setelah penderitaan-Nya selesai, dan dengan banyak tanda Ia membuktikan, bahwa Ia hidup. Sebab selama empat puluh hari Ia berulang-ulang menampakkan diri dan berbicara kepada mereka tentang Kerajaan Allah. Dan supaya Ia menjadikan mata hatimu terang, agar kamu mengerti pengharapan apakah yang terkandung dalam panggilan-Nya: betapa kayanya kemuliaan bagian yang ditentukan-Nya bagi orang-orang kudus, dan betapa hebat kuasa-Nya bagi kita yang percaya, sesuai dengan kekuatan kuasa-Nya, yang dikerjakan-Nya di dalam Kristus dengan membangkitkan Dia dari antara orang mati dan mendudukkan Dia di sebelah kanan-Nya di sorga, jauh lebih tinggi dari segala pemerintah dan penguasa dan kekuasaan dan kerajaan dan tiap-tiap nama yang dapat disebut, bukan hanya di dunia ini saja, melainkan juga di dunia yang akan datang. Nel mio primo libro ho gia trattato, o Teòfilo, di tutto quello che Gesù fece e insegnò dal principio fino al giorno in cui, dopo aver dato istruzioni agli apostoli che si era scelti nello Spirito Santo, egli fu assunto in cielo. Egli si mostrò ad essi vivo, dopo la sua passione, con molte prove, apparendo loro per quaranta giorni e parlando del regno di Dio. Mentre si trovava a tavola con essi, ordinò loro di non allontanarsi da Gerusalemme, ma di attendere che si adempisse la promessa del Padre “quella, disse, che voi avete udito da me: Giovanni ha battezzato con acqua, voi invece sarete battezzati in Spirito Santo, fra non molti giorni.” Così venutisi a trovare insieme gli domandarono: “Signore, è questo il tempo in cui ricostituirai il regno di Israele?” Ma egli rispose: “Non spetta a voi conoscere i tempi e i momenti che il Padre ha riservato alla sua scelta, ma avrete forza dallo Spirito Santo che scenderà su di voi e mi sarete testimoni a Gerusalemme, in tutta la Giudea e la Samaria e fino agli estremi confini della terra.” Detto questo, fu elevato in alto sotto i loro occhi e una nube lo sottrasse al loro sguardo. Perché il Dio del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo, il Padre della gloria, vi dia uno spirito di sapienza e di rivelazione per una più profonda conoscenza di lui. Possa egli davvero illuminare gli occhi della vostra mente per farvi comprendere a quale speranza vi ha chiamati, quale tesoro di gloria racchiude la sua eredità fra i santi e qual è la straordinaria grandezza della sua potenza verso di noi credenti secondo l'efficacia della sua forza che egli manifestò in Cristo, quando lo risuscitò dai morti e lo fece sedere alla sua destra nei cieli, al di sopra di ogni principato e autorità, di ogni potenza e dominazione e di ogni altro nome che si possa nominare non solo nel secolo presente ma anche in quello futuro. Tutto infatti ha sottomesso ai suoi piedi e lo ha costituito su tutte le cose a capo della Chiesa, la quale è il suo corpo, la pienezza di colui che si realizza interamente in tutte le cose.
