First reading (Jeremiah 20: 10–13)
A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah.
Yes, I hear the whisperings of many: “Terror on every side! Denounce! let us denounce him!” All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine. “Perhaps he can be tricked; then we will prevail, and take our revenge on him.” But the Lord is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not prevail. In their failure they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion. Lord of hosts, you test the just, you see mind and heart; let me see the vengeance you take on them, for to you I have entrusted my cause. Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord, for he has rescued the life of the poor from the power of the evildoers!
Second reading (Romans 5: 12–15)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.
Therefore, just as through one person sin entered the world, and through sin, death, and thus death came to all, inasmuch as all sinned — for up to the time of the law, sin was in the world, though sin is not accounted when there is no law. But death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin after the pattern of the trespass of Adam, who is the type of the one who was to come. But the gift is not like the transgression. For if by that one person’s transgression the many died, how much more did the grace of God and the gracious gift of the one person Jesus Christ overflow for the many.
Gospel (Matthew 10: 26–33)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
Jesus sends out the twelve by saying: "Therefore do not be afraid of them. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father."

Second reading (Romans 5: 12–15)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.
Now, sin entered the world through one man and through sin, death, and later on death spread to all humankind, because all sinned. As long as there was no law, they could not speak of disobedience, but sin was already in the world. This is why from Adam to Moses death reigned among them, although their sin was not disobedience as in Adam's case—this was not the true Adam, but foretold the other who was to come. Such has been the fall, but God's gift goes far beyond. Multitudes die because of the fault of one man, but how much more does the grace of God spread when the gift he granted reaches the multitudes, from this unique man Jesus Christ.

Rather be afraid of him who can destroy both body and soul in hell. For only a few cents you can buy two sparrows, yet not one sparrow falls to the ground without your Father's consent. As for you, every hair of your head has been counted. So do not be afraid: you are worth much more than many sparrows. Whoever acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my Father in heaven. Whoever rejects me before others I will reject before my Father in heaven."

Pero el Señor está conmigo, él, mi poderoso defensor; los que me persiguen no me vencerán. Caerán ellos y tendrán la vergüenza de su fracaso, y su humillación no se olvidará jamás. Señor, tus ojos están pendientes del hombre justo. Tú conoces las conciencias y los corazones, haz que vea cuando te desquites de ellos, porque a ti he confiado mi defensa. ¡Canten y alaben al Señor, que salvó al desamparado de las manos de los malvados!

Por lo tanto, por un solo hombre entró el pecado en el mundo, y por el pecado la muerte, y así la muerte pasó a todos los hombres, porque todos pecaron. En efecto, el pecado ya estaba en el mundo, antes de la Ley, pero cuando no hay Ley, el pecado no se tiene en cuenta. Sin embargo, la muerte reinó desde Adán hasta Moisés, incluso en aquellos que no habían pecado, cometiendo una transgresión semejante a la de Adán, que es figura del que debía venir. Pero no hay proporción entre el don y la falta. Porque si la falta de uno solo provocó la muerte de todos, la gracia de Dios y el don conferido pro la gracia de un solo hombre, Jesucristo, fueron derramados mucho más abundantemente sobre todos.

Antes de la ley de Moisés ya existía el pecado en el mundo y, si bien es cierto que el pecado no se castiga cuando no hay ley, sin embargo, la muerte reinó desde Adán hasta Moisés aun sobre aquéllos que no pecaron como pecó Adán, cuando desobedeció un mandato directo de Dios. Por lo demás, Adán era figura de Cristo, el que había de venir. Ahora bien, el don de Dios supera con mucho al delito. Pues si por el pecado de uno solo hombre todos fueron castigados con la muerte, por el don de un solo hombre, Jesucristo, se ha desbordado sobre todos la abundancia de la vida y la gracia de Dios.

Sabi pa nila, “Marahil ay malilinlang natin siya; pagkatapos, hulihin natin at paghigantihan.” Subalit ikaw, Panginoon, ay nasa panig ko, tulad sa malakas at makapangyarihang mandirigma; mabibigo ang lahat ng umuusig sa akin, mapapahiya sila at hindi magtatagumpay kailanman. Hindi na makakalimutan ang kanilang kahihiyan habang panahon. Makatarungan ka kung sumubok sa mga tao, Panginoon, na Makapangyarihan sa lahat, alam mo ang laman ng kanilang mga puso't isip. Aku telah mendengar bisikan banyak orang: "Kegentaran datang dari segala jurusan! Adukanlah dia! Kita mau mengadukan dia!" Semua orang sahabat karibku mengintai apakah aku tersandung jatuh: "Barangkali ia membiarkan dirinya dibujuk, sehingga kita dapat mengalahkan dia dan dapat melakukan pembalasan kita terhadap dia!" Tetapi TUHAN menyertai aku seperti pahlawan yang gagah, sebab itu orang-orang yang mengejar aku akan tersandung jatuh dan mereka tidak dapat berbuat apa-apa. Mereka akan menjadi malu sekali, sebab mereka tidak berhasil, suatu noda yang selama-lamanya tidak terlupakan! Ya TUHAN semesta alam, yang menguji orang benar, yang melihat batin dan hati, biarlah aku melihat pembalasan-Mu terhadap mereka, sebab kepada-Mulah kuserahkan perkaraku. Menyanyilah untuk TUHAN, pujilah TUHAN! Sebab ia telah melepaskan nyawa orang miskin dari tangan orang-orang yang berbuat jahat.

Sebab itu, sama seperti dosa telah masuk ke dalam dunia oleh satu orang, dan oleh dosa itu juga maut, demikianlah maut itu telah menjalar kepada semua orang, karena semua orang telah berbuat dosa. Sebab sebelum hukum Taurat ada, telah ada dosa di dunia. Tetapi dosa itu tidak diperhitungkan kalau tidak ada hukum Taurat. Sungguhpun demikian maut telah berkuasa dari zaman Adam sampai kepada zaman Musa juga atas mereka, yang tidak berbuat dosa dengan cara yang sama seperti yang telah dibuat oleh Adam, yang adalah gambaran Dia yang akan datang. Tetapi karunia Allah tidaklah sama dengan pelanggaran Adam. Sebab, jika karena pelanggaran satu orang semua orang telah jatuh di dalam kuasa maut, jauh lebih besar lagi kasih karunia Allah dan karunia-Nya, yang dilimpahkan-Nya atas semua orang karena satu orang, yaitu Yesus Kristus.

アダムが罪を犯した時、罪が世界に入り込みました。アダムの罪によって死が全人類に広まり、全ての人は死ぬように定められました。それというのも、全ての人が罪を犯したからです。これらの原因がアダムの罪にあることを、私たちは知っています。アダムからモーセまでの時代にも人々は罪を犯しましたが、神はそのころ、罪を犯したからといって、彼らに死刑を宣告したりはなさいませんでした。神はまだ、彼らに律法を与えておらず、また、彼らにどんなことを望んでおられるか告げてもいなかったからです。そういうわけで、彼らの肉体の死はアダムの罪によるもので、彼らの罪のせいではありませんでした。アダムは人類を代表するという意味で、やがて来られるキリストの原型ですが、両者はなんと対照的でしょう。人間の罪と神の赦しとの間には、なんと大きな違いがあることでしょう。アダム一人の罪によって多くの人に死がもたらされました。しかし、イエス・キリスト一人によって、多くの人に赦しがもたらされたのです。

第二読み物（ローマ人第5章：第12詩–第15詩）
この読み物はローマの信徒への手紙です。
このようなわけで、一人の人によって罪が世に入り、罪によって死が入り込んだように、死は全ての人に及んだのです。全ての人が罪を犯したからです。律法が与えられる前にも罪は世にあったが、律法がなければ、罪は罪と認められないわけです。しかし、アダムからモーセまでの間にも、アダムの違犯と同じような罪を犯さなかった人の上にさえ、死は支配しました。実にアダムは、来るべき方を前もって表す者だったのです。しかし、恵みの賜物は罪とは比較になりません。一人の罪によって多くの人が死ぬことになったとすれば、なおさら、神の恵みと一人の人イエス・キリストの恵みの賜物とは、多くの人に豊かに注がれるのです。
福音書（マタイ第10章：第26詩–第33詩）

Sentivo le insinuazioni di molti: “Terrore all'intorno! Denunciatelo e lo denunceremo.” Tutti i miei amici spiavano la mia caduta: “Forse si lascerà trarre in inganno, così noi prevarremo su di lui, ci prenderemo la nostra vendetta.” Ma il Signore è al mio fianco come un prode valoroso, per questo i miei persecutori cadranno e non potranno prevalere; saranno molto confusi perché non riusciranno, la loro vergogna sarà eterna e incancellabile. Signore degli eserciti, che provi il giusto e scruti il cuore e la mente, possa io vedere la tua vendetta su di essi; poiché a te ho affidato la mia causa! Cantate inni al Signore, lodate il Signore, perché ha liberato la vita del povero dalle mani dei malfattori.
Seconda lettura (Romani 5: 12–15)
Una lettura della lettera di San Paolo ai Romani.
Quindi, come a causa di un solo uomo il peccato è entrato nel mondo e con il peccato la morte, così anche la morte ha raggiunto tutti gli uomini, perché tutti hanno peccato. Fino alla legge infatti c'era peccato nel mondo e, anche se il peccato non può essere imputato quando manca la legge, la morte regnò da Adamo fino a Mosè anche su quelli che non avevano peccato con una trasgressione simile a quella di Adamo, il quale è figura di colui che doveva venire. Ma il dono di grazia non è come la caduta: se infatti per la caduta di uno solo morirono tutti, molto di più la grazia di Dio e il dono concesso in grazia di un solo uomo, Gesù Cristo, si sono riversati in abbondanza su tutti gli uomini.
Vangelo (Matteo 10: 26–33)

Non li temete dunque, poiché non v'è nulla di nascosto che non debba essere svelato, e di segreto che non debba essere manifestato. Quello che vi dico nelle tenebre ditelo nella luce, e quello che ascoltate all'orecchio predicatelo sui tetti. E non abbiate paura di quelli che uccidono il corpo, ma non hanno potere di uccidere l'anima; temete piuttosto colui che ha il potere di far perire e l'anima e il corpo nella Geenna. Due passeri non si vendono forse per un soldo? Eppure neanche uno di essi cadrà a terra senza che il Padre vostro lo voglia. Quanto a voi, perfino i capelli del vostro capo sono tutti contati; non abbiate dunque timore: voi valete più di molti passeri! Chi dunque mi riconoscerà davanti agli uomini, anch'io lo riconoscerò davanti al Padre mio che è nei cieli; chi invece mi rinnegherà davanti agli uomini, anch'io lo rinnegherò davanti al Padre mio che è nei cieli.
