Thus says the LORD: All you who are thirsty, come to the water! You who have no money, come, receive grain and eat; come, without paying and without cost, drink wine and milk! Why spend your money for what is not bread; your wages for what fails to satisfy? Heed me, and you shall eat well, you shall delight in rich fare. Come to me heedfully, listen, that you may have life. I will renew with you the everlasting covenant, the benefits assured to David.
Second reading (Romans 8: 35 and 37–39)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.
Brothers and sisters: What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Gospel (Matthew 14: 13–21)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. The crowds heard of this and followed him on foot from their towns. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said, “This is a deserted place and it is already late; dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” Jesus said to them, “There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves.” But they said to him, “Five loaves and two fish are all we have here.” Then he said, “Bring them here to me,” and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over—twelve wicker baskets full. Those who ate were about five thousand men, not counting women and children.

On hearing that John the Baptist had been beheaded, Jesus set out secretly by boat for a secluded place. But the people heard of it, and they followed him on foot from their towns. When Jesus went ashore, he saw the crowd gathered there and he had compassion on them. And he healed their sick. Late in the afternoon, his disciples came to him and stated, "We are in a lonely place and it is now late. You should send these people away, so they can go to the villages and buy something for themselves to eat." But Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away, you give them something to eat." They answered, "We have nothing here but five loaves and two fishes." Jesus said to them, "Bring them here to me." Then he made everyone sit down on the grass. He took the five loaves and the two fishes, raised his eyes to heaven, pronounced the blessing, broke the loaves and handed them to the disciples to distribute to the people. And they all ate, and everyone had enough; then the disciples gathered up the leftovers, filling twelve baskets. About five thousand men had eaten there besides women and children.

Si ustedes me hacen caso, comerán cosas ricas y su paladar se deleitará con comidas exquisitas. Atiéndanme y acérquense a mí, escúchenme y su alma vivirá. Voy a hacer con ustedes una alianza para siempre, para darles los bienes que tengo prometidos a David.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 145) (Versículos 8–9 y 15–18)
La respuesta es: La mano de Dios nos alimenta; él satisface nuestras necesidades.
• El Señor es bondadoso y compasivo, lento para enojarse y de gran misericordia; el Señor es bueno con todos y tiene compasión de todas sus criaturas.

Porque tengo la certeza de que ni la muerte ni la vida, ni los ángeles ni los principados, ni lo presente ni lo futuro, ni los poderes espirituales, ni lo alto ni lo profundo, ni ninguna otra criatura podrá separarnos jamás del amor de Dios, manifestado en Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor.

Al enterarse de que Juan el bautista fue decapitado, Jesús se alejó en una barca a un lugar desierto para esta a solas. Apenas lo supo la gente, dejó las ciudades y lo siguió a pie. Al desembarcar Jesús y encontrarse con tan gran gentío, sintió compasión de ellos y sanó a sus enfermos. Cuando ya caía la tarde, sus discípulos se le acercaron, diciendo: “Estamos en un lugar despoblado y ya ha pasado la hora. Despide a esta gente para que se vayan a las aldeas y se compren algo de comer.” Pero Jesús les dijo: “No tienen por qué irse; denles ustedes de comer.” Ellos respondieron: “Aquí no tenemos más que cinco panes y dos pescados.” “Tráiganmelos aquí,” les dijo. Y mandó a la gente que se sentara en el pasto. Tomó los cinco panes y los dos pescados, levantó los ojos al cielo, pronunció la bendición, partió los panes y los entregó a los discípulos. Dengarkanlah Aku maka kamu akan memakan yang baik dan kamu akan menikmati sajian yang paling lezat. Sendengkanlah telingamu dan datanglah kepada-Ku; dengarkanlah, maka kamu akan hidup! Aku hendak mengikat perjanjian abadi dengan kamu, menurut kasih setia yang teguh yang Kujanjikan kepada Daud.

Tetapi Yesus berkata kepada mereka: "Tidak perlu mereka pergi, kamu harus memberi mereka makan." Jawab mereka: "Yang ada pada kami di sini hanya lima roti dan dua ikan." Yesus berkata: "Bawalah ke mari kepada-Ku." Lalu disuruh-Nya orang banyak itu duduk di rumput. Dan setelah diambil-Nya lima roti dan dua ikan itu, Yesus menengadah ke langit dan mengucap berkat, lalu memecah-mecahkan roti itu dan memberikannya kepada murid-murid-Nya, lalu murid-murid-Nya membagi-bagikannya kepada orang banyak. では、いったいだれが、私たちをキリストの愛から引き離すことができるのでしょうか。災難や苦しみ、迫害ですか。飢えや貧乏、あるいは危険や剣ですか。しかし、こうした中にあっても私たちは、命を投げ出してまで私たちを愛してくださったキリストによって、圧倒的な罪からの勝利を得るのです。神の愛から私たちを引き離すことができるものは何一つない、と確信しています。死も命も、そんなことはできません。天使にもできません。地獄の全勢力が結集しても、神の愛から私たちを遠ざけることはできません。恐れも、不安も同様です。あるいは、私たちが空高くのぼっても、海の底深くもぐっても、どこにいようと、神の愛から私たちを引き離すことはできません。

第二読み物（ローマの信徒第8章：第35詩と第37詩–第39詩）
この読み物はローマの信徒への手紙です。
だれが、キリストの愛からわたしたちを引き離すことができましょう。艱難か。苦しみか。迫害か。飢えか。裸か。危険か。剣か。しかし、これら全てのことにおいて、わたしたちは、わたしたちを愛してくださる方によって輝かしい勝利を収めています。わたしは確信しています。死も、命も、天使も、支配するものも、現在のものも、未来のものも、力あるものも、高い所にいるものも、低い所にいるものも、他のどんな被造物も、わたしたちの主キリスト・イエスによって示された神の愛から、わたしたちを引き離すことはできないのです。
福音書（マタイ第14章：第13詩–第21詩）
この読み物はマタイによる福音書です。
イエスはこれを聞くと、舟に乗ってそこを去り、ひとり人里離れた所に退かれた。しかし、群衆はそのことを聞き、方々の町から歩いて後を追った。イエスは舟から上がり、大勢の群衆を見て深く憐れみ、その中の病人をいやされた。夕暮れになったので、弟子たちがイエスのそばに来て言った。「ここは人里離れた所で、もう時間もたちました。群衆を解散させてください。そうすれば、自分で村へ食べ物を買いに行くでしょう。」イエスは言われた。「行かせることはない。あなたがたが彼らに食べる物を与えなさい。」弟子たちは言った。「ここにはパン五つと魚二匹しかありません。」イエスは、「それをここに持って来なさい」と言い、群衆には草の上に座るようにお命じになった。そして、五つのパンと二匹の魚を取り、天を仰いで賛美の祈りを唱え、パンを裂いて弟子たちにお渡しになった。弟子たちはそのパンを群衆に与えた。全ての人が食べて満腹した。そして、残ったパンの屑を集めると、十二の籠いっぱいになった。食べた人は、女と子供を別にして、男が五千人ほどであった。

Chi avrebbe creduto alla nostra rivelazione? A chi sarebbe stato manifestato il braccio del Signore? E' cresciuto come un virgulto davanti a lui e come una radice in terra arida. Non ha apparenza né bellezza per attirare i nostri sguardi, non splendore per provare in lui diletto. Disprezzato e reietto dagli uomini, uomo dei dolori che ben conosce il patire, come uno davanti al quale ci si copre la faccia, era disprezzato e non ne avevamo alcuna stima.
Seconda lettura (Romani 8: 35 e 37–39)
Una lettura della Lettera di San Paolo ai Romani.
Chi ci separerà dunque dall'amore di Cristo? Forse la tribolazione, l'angoscia, la persecuzione, la fame, la nudità, il pericolo, la spada? Ma in tutte queste cose noi siamo più che vincitori per virtù di colui che ci ha amati. Io sono infatti persuaso che né morte né vita, né angeli né principati, né presente né avvenire, né potenze, né altezza né profondità, né alcun'altra creatura potrà mai separarci dall'amore di Dio, in Cristo Gesù, nostro Signore.
Vangelo (Matteo 14: 13–21)

Udito ciò, Gesù partì di là su una barca e si ritirò in disparte in un luogo deserto. Ma la folla, saputolo, lo seguì a piedi dalle città. Egli, sceso dalla barca, vide una grande folla e sentì compassione per loro e guarì i loro malati. Sul far della sera, gli si accostarono i discepoli e gli dissero: “Il luogo è deserto ed è ormai tardi; congeda la folla perché vada nei villaggi a comprarsi da mangiare.” Ma Gesù rispose: “Non occorre che vadano; date loro voi stessi da mangiare.” Gli risposero: “Non abbiamo che cinque pani e due pesci!” Ed egli disse: “Portatemeli qua.” E dopo aver ordinato alla folla di sedersi sull'erba, prese i cinque pani e i due pesci e, alzati gli occhi al cielo, pronunziò la benedizione, spezzò i pani e li diede ai discepoli e i discepoli li distribuirono alla folla. Tutti mangiarono e furono saziati; e portarono via dodici ceste piene di pezzi avanzati. Quelli che avevano mangiato erano circa cinquemila uomini, senza contare le donne e i bambini.
