16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Date: July 18, 2010

First Reading (Genesis 18: 1–10a)
A reading from the book of Genesis.
The Lord appeared to Abraham near the oak of Mamre. Abraham was sitting at the entrance to his tent, in the heat of the day, when he looked up and saw three man standing nearby. When he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tent to meet them. He bowed to the ground and stated, "My Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass your servant by. Let a little water be brought. Wash your feet and then rest under the trees. I shall fetch some bread so that you can be refreshed and continue on your way, since you have come to your servant." They then stated, "Do as you say." Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and stated to her, "Quick, take three measures of flour, knead it and make cakes." Abraham then ran to the herd, took a fine tender calf, gave it to the servant who hurried to prepare it. He took butter and milk and together with the calf he had prepared, and laid it all before them. And while he remained standing, they ate. They then asked, "Where is Sarah, your wife?" Abraham answered, "She is in the tent." And the visitor stated, "At this same time next year I will return and Sarah by then will have a son."

Second Reading (Colossians 1: 24–28)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians.

Brothers and sisters: At present I rejoice when I suffer for you; I complete in my own flesh what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ for the sake of his body, which is the Church. For I am serving the Church since God entrusted to me the ministry of bringing into effect his design for you. I mean that mysterious plan that for centuries and generations remained secret, and which God has now revealed to his holy ones. God willed to make known to them the riches and even the Glory that his mysterious plan reserved for the pagan nations: Christ is in your and you may hope God's Glory. This is Christ we preach. We warn and teach everyone true wisdom, aiming to make everyone perfect in Christ.

Gospel (Luke 10: 38–42)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he entered a village and a woman called Martha welcomed him to her house. She had a sister named Mary who sat down at the Lord's feet to listen to his words. Martha, meanwhile, was busy with all the serving and finally she stated, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving?" However, the Lord answered, "Martha, Martha, you worry and are troubled about many things, whereas only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken away from her."

  1. Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 15) (Verses 2-5)
The response is: He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord.

Those who walk blamelessly and do what is right, who speak truth from their heart and control their words.

Who do no harm to their neighbors and cast no discredit on their companions, who look down on evildoers but highly esteem God's servants; who at all cost stand by a pledged word.

Who do not lend money at interest and refuse a bribe against the innocent. Do this, and you will soon be shaken.

  2. Greetings everyone! Wow! I am the first comment! I just would like to tell everyone to sing Lift Up Your Hands. It is the best song ever, and the rating is five stars. Reply if you concur.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Ah. I never get tired to listening to that song. At least I can progress myself rather than retrogress myself.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I am the third comment! I would like to remind that previously, last week, Gurvilin and Paulus won $1,000,000. Let's see if we can have new winners!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Greetings everyone. I would like to remind that Gurvilin still has 9 wishes available, and Paulus still has 10 wishes available for use. I would like to ask Gurvilin for any more wishes.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Actually, for that first wish, remember that I wished that I would travel to the United States and see those celebrities? I have more celebrities that I would like to see. I also would like to see Demi Lovato, Tiffany Thornton, Doug Brochu, Brandon Mychal Smith, Sterling Knight, Allisyn Ashley Arm, and more people. Yes, I know these people are from Sonny With a Chance, but there are more that I want to see.

  7. Hey Grindan, you have learned a fancy word there. What does 'retrogress' mean? Please reply.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Congratulations to Grindan for using a sophisticated word there. Grindan wins $5,000!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Thank you Paulus, but like last week, I would like to donate the $5,000 as charity towards the UNICEF organization. To answer Ufretin's question, I can define it for you, but it is taken from the Encarta Dictionary so that I avoid plagiarizing.

  10. Greetings guys! I would like to nominate Sean from this blog to host a game of vocabulary. This should also improve our vocabulary and give us an opportunity to use those words to apply it in sentences we say. That way we can earn jackpot bonuses like last week! Anyone who likes to join, just reply immediately after this post.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Certainly Fiur, I am happy to host a game for all you guys. We just wait for other players to join the game, so we can proceed.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I join the game! I am truly interested to learn new vocabulary.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I ditto what Paulus stated. I am interested as well to learn new vocabulary.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well, learning new vocabulary is what I need! I join the game too, because tomorrow is my speech to all the wizards. I have to add some sophisticated words in my speech, so I join the game. It is better than documenting artifacts and their powers.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I would like to learn vocabulary too so that I can surprise the librarian in the library with my new sophisticated words. I join the game too.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I ditto what Grindan said. I join the game too.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I guess it would not hurt just to learn new words. I join the game too!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Of course, since I created this game, I should also test it out by playing. I join the game.

  19. Okay, there are 7 participants. You all transform into competitors. Of course, no cheating by looking at the dictionary. Your first word is 'interpose'. What does 'interpose' mean?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I answer first! Interpose is a transitive verb, and it means to interrupt by gathering information.

    ReplyDelete
  21. My answer is that 'interpose' is a verb meaning to interrupt somebody, I concur with Bohb there, except the gathering information part.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I concur with Solmyr there. I think Bohb is incorrect.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I completely concur with Solmyr. 'Interpose' is a transitive and also an intransitive verb to interrupt what somebody is saying.

    ReplyDelete
  24. We need one more answer. Grindan, do you concur or have a different answer?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I lock in my answer with interrupt by saying something. Yes, it is a verb.

  28. Thank you for playing the game with us. Next week, I will put a comment with the word there. Quickly define it to earn your points. Bohb, you can still redeem yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Note that if you can specify words that a similar to the word, for example, interposable is an adjective while interpose is a verb, you can earn bonus points.
