Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity (Holy Trinity Sunday)

Date: June 19, 2011

First Reading (Exodus 34: 4b-6 and 8-9)
A reading from the book of Exodus.
Moses rose early in the morning and went up Mount Sinai as the Lord had commanded, taking in his hands the two slabs of stone. And the Lord came down in a cloud and stood there with him, and Moses called on the name of the Lord. Then the Lord passed in front of him and cried out, "The Lord, the Lord is a God full of pity and mercy, slow to anger and abounding in truth and loving-kindness." Moses hastened to bow down to the ground and worshiped. He then stated, "If you really look kindly on me, my Lord, please come and walk in our midst and even though we are a stiff-necked people, pardon our wickedness and our sin and make us yours."

Second Reading (2 Corinthians 13: 11-13)
A reading from the second letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.
Finally, brothers and sisters, be happy, strive to be perfect, have courage, be of one mind and live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you. The grace of Christ Jesus the Lord, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Gospel (John 3: 16-18)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.
Jesus stated this to Nicodemus, "Yes, God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but may have eternal life. God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world; instead, through him the world is to be saved. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned. He who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the Name of the only Son of God."

  1. Responsorial Psalm (Daniel 3: 52-55)
The response is: Glory and praise forever!

Blessed are you, Lord, God of our fathers, be praised and exalted forever. Blessed is your holy and glorious name, celebrated and exalted forever.

Blessed are you in the temple of your sacred glory, your praises are sung forever.

Blessed are you on the throne of your kingdom, honored and glorified forever.

Blessed are you who fathom the depths, who are enthroned on the cherubim, praised and exalted forever.

  2. Interestingly, it seems that the responsorial psalm is not from the psalms sung, but from the book of Daniel.

  8. This is the Opening Prayer for the Holy Trinity Sunday Eucharist.
Let us pray. Father, you sent your Word to bring us truth and your Spirit to make us holy. Through them we come to know the mystery of your life. Help us to worship you, one God in three Persons, by proclaiming and living our faith in you. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

  10. Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks. We joyfully proclaim our faith in the mystery of your Godhead. You have revealed your glory as the glory also of your Son and of the Holy Spirit: three Persons equal in majesty, undivided in splendor, yet one Lord, one God, ever to be adored in your everlasting glory. And so, with all the choirs of angels in heaven we proclaim your glory and join in their unending hymn of praise. (After this, you sing the Sanctus.)
