First Reading (2 Kings 4: 42–44)
A reading from the second book of Kings.
A man came from Baal-shalishah bringing bread and wheat to the man of God. These were from the first part of the harvest, twenty loaves of barley and wheat. Elisha told him, "Give the loaves to these men that they may eat." His servant stated to him, "How am I going to divide these loaves among one hundred men?" Elisha insisted, "Give them to the men that they may eat, for the Lord says: They shall eat and have some remaining." So the man set it before them; they ate and there were some bread remaining, just as the Lord stated.
Second Reading (Ephesians 4: 1–6)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians.
Brothers and sisters: I, the prisoner of Christ, invite you to live the vocation you have received. Be humble, kind, patient, and bear with one another in love. Make every effort to keep among you the unity of Spirit through bonds of peace. Let there be one body and one spirit, for God, in calling you, gave the same Spirit to all. One Lord, one faith, one baptism. One God, the Father of all, who is above all and works through all and is in all.

Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, near Tiberias, and large crowds followed him because of the miraculous signs they saw when Jesus healed the sick. So he went up into the hills and sat down there with his disciples. Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. Then lifting his eyes, Jesus saw the crowds that were coming to him and asked Philip, "Where shall we buy bread so that these people may eat?" Jesus asked this question to test Philip, for he himself knew what he was going to do. Philip answered him, "Two hundred silver coins would not buy enough bread for each of them to have a piece." Then one of Jesus' disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, stated, "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?" Jesus stated, "Have the people recline." There was plenty of grass there for the people, about five thousand men, sat down to rest. Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were seated. He did the same with the fish and gave them as much as they wanted. And when they had eaten enough, he told his disciples, "Gather up the pieces left over, that nothing may be lost." So the disciples gather them up and filled twelve baskets with the bread, that is with pieces left by those who had eaten. When the people saw this sign that Jesus had been given, they stated, "This is really the Prophet, he who is to come into the world." Jesus realized that they would come and take him by force to make him king, therefore, he retreated to the hills alone.

Eliseo le dijo: “Dáselos a esos hombres para que coman.” Pero el sirviente le dijo: “No me alcanza para repartírselo a cien personas. Replicó: “Dáselos y que coman, porque esto dice Yahvé: Comerán y sobrará.” Les sirvieron, comieron y les sobró, tal como lo había dicho Yahvé.
Segunda Lectura (Efesios 4: 1-6)

Yo, que estoy preso por el Señor, los exhorto a comportarse de una manera digna de la vocación que han recibido. Con mucha humildad, mansedumbre y paciencia, sopórtense mutuamente por amor. Traten de conservar la unidad del Espíritu mediante el vínculo de la paz. Hay un solo Cuerpo y un solo Espíritu, así como hay una misma esperanza, a la que ustedes han sido llamados, de acuerdo con la vocación recibida. Hay un solo Señor, una sola fe, un solo bautismo. Hay un solo Dios y Padre de todos, que está sobre todos, lo penetra todo y está en todos.
Evangelio (Juan 6: 1-15)

Después de esto, Jesús atravesó el mar de Galilea, llamado Tiberíades. Lo seguía una gran multitud, al ver los signos que hacía curando a los enfermos. Jesús subió a la montaña y se sentó allí con sus discípulos. Se acercaba la Pascua, la fiesta de los judíos. Al levantar los ojos, Jesús vio que una gran multitud acudía a él y dijo a Felipe: “¿Dónde compraremos pan para darles de comer?” Él decía esto para ponerlo a prueba, porque sabía bien lo que iba a hacer. Uno de sus discípulos, Andrés, el hermano de Simón Pedro, le dijo: “Aquí hay un niño que tiene cinco panes de cebada y dos pescados, pero ¿qué es esto para tanta gente?” Jesús le respondió: “Háganlos sentar.” Había mucho pasto en ese lugar. Todos se sentaron y eran uno cinco mil hombres. Jesús tomó los panes, dio gracias y los distribuyó a los que estaban sentados. Lo mismo hizo con los pescados, dándoles todo lo que quisieron. Cuando todos quedaron satisfechos, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Recojan los pedazos que sobran, para que no se pierda nada.” Los recogieron y llenaron doce canastas con los pedazos que sobraron de los cinco panes de cebada. Al ver el signo que Jesús acababa de hacer, la gente decía: “Este es, verdaderamente, el Profeta que debe venir al mundo.” Jesús, sabiendo que querían apoderarse de él para hacerlo rey, se retiró otra vez solo a la montaña.

Sinabi ni Andres na isa sa kanyang mga alagad at kapatid ni Simon Pedro, “Mayroon po ritong isang batang lalaki na may dalang limang tinapay at dalawang isda. Subalit sasapat kaya ang mga ito?” Paupuin ninyo ang mga tao, sabi ni Jesus. “Madamo sa lugar na iyon.” Umupo nga ang lahat, humigit-kumulang sa limanlibo ang mga lalaki. Kinuha ni Jesus ang tinapay at matapos magpasalamat sa Diyos ay ipinamahagi iyon sa mga tao. Gayundin ang ginawa niya sa isda. Nakakain ang lahat at nabusog. Nang makakain na ang mga tao, sinabi ni Jesus sa mga alagad, Ipunin ninyo ang lumabis nang di masayang. Ganoon nga ang ginawa nila, at nakapuno sila ng labindalawang kaing. Nang makita ng mga tao ang himalang ginawa ni Jesus, sinabi nila, Tunay na ito ang Propetang paparito sa sanlibutan! Nahalata ni Jesus na lalapit ang mga tao at pipilitin siyang gawing hari, kaya't umalis siyang muli at mag-isang umakyat sa bundok.

All your works will give you thanks; all your saints, O Lord, will praise you, for they will tell the glory of your kingdom and speak of your power.
All creatures look to you to be fed in due season; with open hands you satisfy the living according to their needs.
Righteous is the Lord in all his ways, his mercy shows in all his deeds. He is near those who call on him, who call trustfully upon his name.
The Lord Jesus gives himself to us as our food for the road of life. Have we done the same for one another? Let us examine ourselves.

O God, protector of those who hope in you, without whom nothing has firm foundation, nothing is holy, bestow in abundance your mercy upon us and grant that with you as our ruler and guide, we may use the good things that pass in such a way as to hold fast even now to those that ever endure. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Beloved in Christ: We have broken bread with the Lord. This commits us to call on all human resources to share with those in need of food, justice, and freedom. He also invites us to break for all the higher bread of the gospel, which satisfies the deepest hungers of every human heart. May God strengthen and bless you for his task: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
