Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

Date: November 24, 2013

First Reading (2 Samuel 5: 1–3)
A reading from the second book of Samuel.
All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and stated, "We are your bone and flesh. In the past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led Israel. And the Lord stated to you, 'You shall be the shepherd of my people Israel and you shall be commander over Israel.'" Before the Lord, King David made a compromise with the elders of Israel who came to him at Hebron, and they anointed him king of Israel.

Second Reading (Colossians 1: 12–20)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians.
Constantly give thanks to the Father who has empowered us to receive our share in the inheritance of the saints in his kingdom of light. He rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son. In him we are redeemed and forgiven. He is the image of the unseen God, and for all creation he is the first-born, for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible: thrones, rulers, authorities, powers... All was made through him and for him. He is before all and all things hold together in him. And he is the head of the body, that is the Church, for he is the first, the first raised from the dead that he may be the first in everything, for God was pleased to let fullness dwell in him. Through him God willed to reconcile all things to himself, and through him, through his blood shed on the cross, God establishes peace, on earth as in heaven.

Gospel (Luke 23: 35–43)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.
The people stood by watching at the three crucified people on the cross. Jesus was hanging at the center, and two other criminals hanging at the sides of Jesus. As for the rulers, they jeered at him, saying to one another, "Let the man who saved others now save himself, for he is the Messiah, the chosen one of God!" The soldiers also mocked him and when they drew near to offer him bitter wine, they stated, "So you are the king of the Jews? Free yourself!" For above him was an inscription which read, "This is the King of the Jews." One of the criminals hanging with Jesus insulted him, "So you are the Messiah? Save yourself and us as well!" But the other rebuked him, saying, "Have you no fear of God, you who received the same sentence as he did? For us it is just: this is payment for what we have done. But this man has done nothing wrong." And he stated, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." Jesus replied, "Truly, you will be with me today in paradise."

  1. Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 122) (Verses 1-5)
The response is: Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

I rejoiced with those who stated to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord!" And now we have set foot within your gates, O Jerusalem!

Jerusalem, just like a city, where everything falls into place! There the tribes go up, who are the tribes of the Lord.

The assembly of Israel compromised on a decree, to give thanks to the Lord's name. There stand the courts of justice, the offices of the house of David.

  2. Hey guys! It has been many days and weeks, but I would love to post comments on this blog, and there are times that these readings are quite interesting. I already went to Saint Theresia about the readings, and they are quite interesting when Father Ignatius discussed about it during the homily. Keep up the good work, priests!

  4. Primera Lectura (2 Samuel 5: 1–3)

  12. Priest: Let us pray to our Lord Jesus Christ that his kingdom may grow among us, and let us say: Lord, your kingdom come.
    — Christ came as the Savior of all. That his kingdom may come to those who have lost the way to God and to people. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, your kingdom come.
    — Christ reconciled heaven and earth. That his kingdom may come through peace among nations. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, your kingdom come.
    — Christ is the head of the Church. That his kingdom may come through the unity of all Christians. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, your kingdom come.
    — Christ gave a place in his kingdom to sinners, to the poor, to those who suffer. That his kingdom may grow among the weak and the voiceless of our day. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, your kingdom come.
    — Christ is the first to rise from the dead. That his kingdom may come with its joy to all our beloved ones who have died. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, your kingdom come.
    — Christ is alive in our communities. That his kingdom may grow through our dedication and service. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, your kingdom come.
    — Lord, in your Holy name, obtain for us from your Heavenly Father, his providence of the Saint Peter Canisius International Catholic Parish. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, your kingdom come.
Priest: We pray for those intentions offered for the Mass and for our personal intentions… Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, your kingdom come.
Lord Jesus, make us into a people that brings your justice and love to everyone on earth, that your kingdom may grow among us now and forever. Amen.

  13. As we offer you, O Lord, the sacrifice by which the human race is reconciled to you, we humbly pray that your Son himself may bestow on all nations the gifts of unity and peace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  14. It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God. For you anointed your only begotten son, our Lord Jesus Christ, with the oil of gladness as eternal priest and king of all creation, so that by offering himself on the altar of the cross as spotless sacrifice to bring us peace, he might accomplish the mysteries of human redemption and making all created things subject to his rule, he might present to the immensity of your majesty an eternal and universal kingdom, a kingdom of truth and life, a kingdom of holiness and grace, and a kingdom of justice, love and peace. And so, with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the hosts and powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory, as without end we acclaim…

    3. Prayer in front of the Most Blessed SacramentSaturday, November 23, 2013 at 10:48:00 PM GMT+8

Lord Jesus Christ, because of your divine love for us, you make known of your presence in the Blessed Sacrament, full of divine mercy and love. For you have patiently waited for us to come to you, and you have always welcome us to be in union with you. I believe that the Blessed Sacrament is truly you, Lord Jesus Christ. Now I come to adore you. I come to thank you for your boundless love and divine mercy. I come to ask for your forgiveness for my frequent lack of faith, which has greatly offended you. I come to revere in you and say I am sorry for the time that I have caused you pain by my distractions and my obliviousness to your presence in my midst. Oh Lord Jesus, I want to love you with my whole heart, whole mind and whole soul. May you help me to see your presence through my eyes of faith, to love you through loving the least of my brothers, and to open my heart in the silence of my soul to seek you out and to listen to your will for my life. Lord, please help me remove anything in my heart which is not in accordance to your love. And I also ask for your divine mercy for the deliverance of souls in purgatory, especially for the souls of the faithful who had loved and served the blessed sacrament and we ask for the prayers and intercessions of our Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen.

You have given us bread from heaven. Have in itself all sweetness. Let us pray to Lord Jesus Christ, as you gave us the Eucharist as the memorial of your suffering and death. May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood help us to experience the salvation you won for us and the pace of the kingdom where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.

Bow your heads and pray for God's blessing.
The kingdom of God is not yet complete. But is among us and it keeps growing when we try to live like Jesus and to bring his justice and love to all by our words and deeds and by the gift of ourselves. May God bless you for this task: the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Mass has ended, and you are sent. Therefore, let us go in peace, to love and serve the Lord in our fellowmen. Thanks be to God.
