First Reading (Sirach 3: 2-6 and 12-14)
A reading from the book of Sirach.
The Lord established that children should respect their father; he confirmed the right of the mother over her children. Whoever honors his father atones for his sins; he who gives glory to his mother prepares a treasure for himself. Whoever honors his father will receive joy from his own children and will be heard when he prays. Whoever glorifies his father will have a long life. Whoever obeys the Lord gives comfort to his mother. My child, take care of your father in his old age, do not cause him sorrow as long has he lives. Even if he has lost his mind, have patience; do not be disrespectful to him while you are in full health. For kindness done to one's father will never be forgotten, it will serve as reparation for your sins.
Second Reading (Colossians 3: 12-21)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians.
Clothe yourselves, then, as is fitting for God's chosen people, holy and beloved of him. Put on compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience to bear with one another and forgive whenever there is any occasion to do so. As the Lord has forgiven you, forgive one another. When you have put on all these, take love as your belt so that the dress be perfect. May the peace of Christ overflow in your hearts; for this end you were called to be one body. And be thankful. Let the word of God dwell in you in all its richness. Teach and admonish one another with words of wisdom. With thankful hearts sing to God psalms, hymns and spontaneous praise. And whatever you do or say, do it in the Name of Jesus, the Lord, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as you should do in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not get angry with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, because that pleases the Lord. Parents, do not be too demanding of your children, lest they become discouraged.
Gospel (Matthew 2: 13-15 and 19-23)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
After the wise men had left, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and stated, "Get up, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you for Herod will soon be looking for the child in order to kill him." Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and left that night for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. In this way, what the Lord had stated through the prophet was fulfilled: I called my son out of Egypt. After Herod's death, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and stated, "Get up, take the child and his mother and go back to the land of Israel, because those who tried to kill the child are dead." So Joseph got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. But when Joseph heard that Archilaus had succeeded his father Herod as king of Judea, he was afraid to go there. He was given further instructions in a dream, and went to the region of Galilee. There he settled in a town called Nazareth. In this way what was stated by the prophets was fulfilled: He shall be called a Nazorean.

Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 128) (Verses 1–5)

Blessed are you who fear the Lord and walk in his ways. You will eat the fruit of your toil; you will be blessed and favored.
Your wife, like a vine, will bear fruits in your home; your children, like olive shoots will stand around your table.
Such are the blessings bestowed upon the man who fears the Lord. May the Lord bless you from Zion. May you see Jerusalem prosperous all the days of your life.
Primera Lectura (Eclesiástico 3: 2–6 y 12–14)

El Señor quiere que el padre sea respetado por sus hijos y confirmó el derecho de la madre sobre ellos. El que honra a su padre expía sus pecados y el que respeta a su madre es como quien acumula un tesoro. El que honra a su padre encontrará alegría en sus hijos y cuando ore, será escuchado. El que respeta a su padre tendrá larga vida y el que obedece al Señor da tranquilidad a su madre. Hijo mío, socorre a tu padre en su vejez y no le causes tristeza mientras viva. Aunque pierda su lucidez, sé indulgente con él; no lo desprecies, tú que estás en pleno vigor. La ayuda prestada a un padre no caerá en el olvido y te servirá de reparación por tus pecados.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 128) (Versículos 1–5)
La respuesta es: Felices son los que temen el Señor y siguen sus caminos.
• ¡Feliz el que teme al Señor y sigue sus caminos! Comerás del fruto de tu trabajo, serás feliz y todo te irá bien.
• Tu esposa será como una vid fecunda en el seno de tu hogar; tus hijos, como retoños de olivo alrededor de tu mesa.
• ¡Así será bendecido el hombre que teme al Señor! ¡Que el Señor te bendiga desde Sión todos los días de tu vida! Que contemples la paz de Jerusalén.
Segunda Lectura (Colosenses 3: 12–21)
Una lectura de la carta de San Pablo a los colosenses.
Como elegidos de Dios, sus santos y amados, revístanse de sentimientos de profunda compasión. Practiquen la benevolencia, la humildad, la dulzura, la paciencia. Sopórtense los unos a los otros, y perdónense mutuamente siempre que alguien tenga motivo de queja contra otro. El Señor los ha perdonado: hagan ustedes lo mismo. Sobre todo, revístanse del amor, que es el vínculo de la perfección. Que la paz de Cristo reine en sus corazones: esa paz la que han sido llamados, porque formamos un solo Cuerpo. Y vivan en la acción de gracias. Que la Palabra de Cristo resida en ustedes con toda su riqueza. Instrúyanse en la verdadera sabiduría, corrigiéndose los unos a los otros. Canten a Dios con gratitud y de todo corazón salmos, himnos y cantos inspirados. Todo lo que puedan decir o realizar, háganlo siempre en nombre del Señor Jesús, dando gracias por él a Dios Padre. Mujeres, respeten a su marido, como corresponde a los discípulos del Señor. Maridos, amen a su mujer, y no le amarguen la vida. Hijos, obedezcan siempre a sus padres, porque esto es agradable al Señor. Padres, no exasperen a sus hijos, para que ellos no se desanimen.
Evangelio (Mateo 2: 13–15 y 19–23)
Una lectura del Evangelio Santo según San Mateo.
Después de marchar los Magos, el Ángel del Señor se le apareció en sueños a José y le dijo: “Levántate, toma al niño y a su madre y huye a Egipto. Quédate allí hasta que yo te avise, porque Herodes buscará al niño para matarlo.” José se levantó; aquella misma noche tomó al niño y a su madre y partió hacia Egipto, permaneciendo allí hasta la muerte de Herodes. Así se cumplió lo que había anunciado el Señor por boca del profeta: Llamé de Egipto a mi hijo. Después de la muerte de Herodes, el Ángel del Señor se apareció en sueños a José en Egipto y le dijo: “Levántate, toma contigo al niño y a su madre y regresa a la tierra de Israel, porque ya han muerto los que querían matar al niño.” José se levantó, tomó al niño y a su madre, y volvieron a la tierra de Israel. Pero al enterarse de que Arquelao gobernaba en Judea en lugar de su padre Herodes, tuvo miedo de ir allá. Conforme a un aviso que recibió en sueños, se dirigió a la provincia de Galilea y se fue a vivir a un pueblo llamado Nazaret. Así había de cumplirse lo que dijeron los profetas: Lo llamarán Nazareo.
