First Reading (Numbers 6: 22-27)
A reading from the book of Numbers.
The Lord spoke to Moses stating, "Speak to Aaron and his sons and state to them: This is how you shall bless the people of Israel; you shall say: May the Lord bless you and keep you! May the Lord let his face shine on you, and be gracious to you! May the Lord look kindly on you, and give you his peace! In that way shall they put my name on the people of Israel and I will bless them."
Second Reading (Galatians 4: 4-7)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Galatians.
Brothers and sisters: When the fullness of time came, God sent his Son. He came born of woman and subject to the Law, in order to redeem the subjects of the Law, that we may be given our full rights of sons and daughters of God. And because you are sons, God has sent into your hearts the Spirit of his which cries out: Abba! that is, Father! You yourself are no longer a slave but a son or daughter, and yours is the inheritance by God's grace.
Gospel (Luke 2: 16-21)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.
The shepherds came hurriedly to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph with the baby lying in the manger. On seeing this they related what they had been told about the child, and all were astonished on hearing the shepherds. As for Mary, she treasured all these messages and continually pondered over them. The shepherds then returned giving glory and praise to God for all they had heard and seen, just as the angels had told them. On the eighth day the circumcision of the baby had to be performed; he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.
On New Years day we have a special celebration by renewing the couples' marriage vows. This will take place after the communion rite and the Lord's prayer. When the priest states, "Let us offer each other the sign of peace.", this is when the ritual begins.

May God be gracious and bless us; may he let his face shine upon us, that you way be known on earth and your salvation among the nations.
May the countries be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples with justice and guide the nations of the world.
May the peoples praise you, O God, may all the peoples praise you! May God bless us and be revered, to the very ends of the earth.
After the sign of peace is offered in the communion rite, the couples who will renew their marriage vows go to the front of the altar, as they are called. When the space is fully occupied, the remaining couples line up at the middle corridor facing the altar. Each couple stands side by side.
ReplyDeleteThe Priest states: Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we are gathered here in the sight and love of God, to join these couples in their marriage vows renewal. We remind them of having performed and now are performing an act of complete faith in each other; that the heart of their marriage will be the relationship they create. In a world where faithfulness often falls short of its initial commitment, it is a tribute to these couples who now join hands and hearts in perfect faith.
After this statement, the couples will face each other and hold hands.
The Priest states: Our Father in heaven, creator and preserver of all mankind, giver of all spiritual grace, the author of everlasting life, send thy/your blessing upon these couples, whom we bless in thy/your name, that they, keep living faithfully together and may ever remain in perfect love and peace together. Amen.
Husbands, it may have been a year or years that you first pledged your commitment to your wife. Today, you want to renew those vows and again pledge your love and life to your wife. Do you promise to keep living with your wife together in the holy estate of matrimony?
Husbands should reply: I do.
The Priest states: Do you promise to keep loving, comforting, and honoring your wife in sickness and health, in middle and old age, in good and bad days?
Husbands should reply: I do.
The Priest states: Do you promise to grow and guide the children that God may have entrusted or will entrust to you with love and compassion?
Husbands should reply: I do.
The Priest states: Wives, it may have been a year or years that you first pledge your commitment to your husband. Today, you want to renew those vows and again pledge your love and life to your husband. Do you promise to keep living with your husband together in the holy estate to matrimony?
Wives should reply: I do.

The Priest states: In the years which shall bring the couples into greater age and wisdom, we pray that their love shall be ever young; that they shall be able always to recover from moments of despair. In this hope may they keep the vows renewed on this day, loving and honoring each other and that they share the fruits of their life together. Those whom God hath joined together let no one put asunder.
Then everybody responds: Amen.
After the ritual, the Master of Ceremony will request for the couples to remain standing in their positions. The choir will sing "Lamb of God", the priest and the congregation will sing accordingly. Everybody kneels after this point, and when the priest states: "This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are called to his supper.", everybody will reply: "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word, and my soul shall be healed."
DeleteThen the Priest consumes the Body of Christ and distributes the Body of Christ to the Eucharistic Ministers and Altar Servers at the altar. Then the Priest drinks the Blood of Christ and distributes to Blood of Christ to the Eucharistic Ministers only. Finally, the Priest distributes the communion to the disciples. After this, the couples may return to their pews. All Eucharistic Ministers and Altar Servers go to the assigned regular location to distribute communion to the rest of the congregation.
During the blessing, before the recessional phase, all couples stand in their assigned positions in front of the altar. There they will be blessed and given holy water.

Yahvé dijo también a Moisés: “Di a Aarón y a sus hijos: Así bendecirán a los hijos de Israel. Dirán: ¡Yahvé te bendiga y te guarde! ¡Yahvé haga resplandecer su rostro sobre ti y te mire con buenos ojos! ¡Yahvé vuelva hacia ti su rostro y te dé la paz! Es así como ellos pondrán mi Nombre sobre los hijos de Israel, y yo los bendeciré.”
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 67) (Versículos 2–3, 5–6 y 8)
La respuesta es: Que el Dios nos bendice en su misericordia.
• Que Dios tenga piedad y nos bendiga, haga brillar su rostro sobre nosotros, para que en la tierra se reconozca su dominio, y su victoria entre las naciones.
• Que canten de alegría las naciones, porque gobiernas a los pueblos con justicia y guías a las naciones de la tierra.
• ¡Que los pueblos te den gracias, oh Dios, que todos los pueblos te den gracias! Que Dios nos bendiga, y lo teman todos los confines de la tierra.
Segunda Lectura (Gálatas 4: 4–7)
Una lectura de la carta de San Pablo a los gálatas.
Pero cuando se cumplió el tiempo establecido, Dios envió a su Hijo, nacido de una mujer y sujeto a la Ley, para redimir a os que estaban sometidos a la Ley y hacernos hijos adoptivos. Y la prueba de que ustedes son hijos, es que Dios infundió en nuestros corazones el Espíritu de su Hijo, que clama a Dios llamándolo, ¡Abba!, es decir, ¡Padre! Así, ya no eres más esclavo, sino hijo, y por lo tanto, heredero por la gracia de Dios.
Evangelio (Lucas 2: 16–21)
Una lectura del Evangelio Santo según San Lucas.
Los ángeles fueron rápidamente y encontraron a María, a José, y al recién nacido acostado en el pesebre. Al verlo, contaron lo que habían oído decir sobre este niño. Y cuantos los oían se maravillaban de lo que les decían los pastores. Mientras tanto, María conservaba estas cosas y las meditaba en su corazón. Y los pastores volvieron, alabando y glorificando a Dios por todo lo que habían visto y oído, conforme al anuncio que habían recibido. Ocho días después, llegó el tiempo de circuncidar al niño y se puso el nombre de Jesús, nombre que le había sido dado por el ángel antes de su concepción.
