First Reading (Joel 2: 12–18)
A reading from the book of Joel.
The Lord says, "Yet even now, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, weeping and mourning. Rend your heart, not your garment. Return to the Lord, your God — gracious and compassionate." The Lord is slow to anger, full of kindness and he repents of having punished. Who knows? Probably he will relent once more and spare some part of the harvest from which we may bring sacred offerings to the Lord, your God. Blow the trumpet in Zion, proclaim a sacred fast, call a solemn assembly. Gather the people, sanctify the community, bring together the elders, even the children and infants at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his bed, and the bride her room. Between the vestibule and the altar, let the priests, the Lord's ministers, weep and say: Spare your people, O Lord. Do not humble them or make them an object of scorn among the nations. Why should it be stated among the peoples: Where is their God? Yahweh has become jealous for his land; he has had pity on his people.
Second Reading (2 Corinthians 5:20 – 6:2)
A reading from the second letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.
Brothers and sisters: So we present ourselves as ambassadors in the name of Christ, as if God himself makes an appeal to you; through us. Let God reconcile you, this we ask you in the name of Christ. He had no sin, but God made him bear our sin, so that in him we might share the holiness of God. Being God's helpers we implore you, let it not be in vain that you received this grace of God. For the Scripture says: At the favorable time I listened to you, on the day of salvation I helped you. This is the favorable time and this is the day of salvation.
Gospel (Matthew 6: 1–6 and 16–18)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
Jesus states this by teaching his disciples up on the mountain: "Be careful not to make a show of your righteousness before people. If you do so, you will not gain anything from your Father in heaven. When you give something to the poor, do not have it trumpeted before you, as do those who want to be seen in the synagogues and in the streets in order to be praised by the people. I assure you, they have been already paid in full. If you give something to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your gift remains really secret. Your Father who sees what is kept confidential, shall reward you. When you pray, do not be like those who want to be seen. They love to stand and pray in the synagogues or on street corners to be seen by everyone. I assure you, they have already been paid in full. When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is with you in secret; and your Father who sees what is kept confidential, shall reward you. When you fast, do not put on a miserable face as what the hypocrites do. They put on a gloomy face, so people can see that they are fasting. I tell you this: they have been paid in full already. When you fast, wash your face and make yourself look cheerful, because you are not fasting for appearances or for people, but for your Father who sees beyond appearances. And your Father, who sees what is kept confidential, shall reward you."

Reminder that Ash Wednesday is the commencement of the Lenten season. For each Sunday of Lent, the Gloria is omitted. Five Sundays of Lent will be presented before Palm Sunday and the Holy Week.

“Pero aún ahora,” dice el oráculo del Señor, “vuelvan a mí de todo corazón, con ayuno, llantos y lamentos. Desgarren su corazón y no sus vestiduras, y vuelvan al Señor, su Dios, porque él es bondadoso y compasivo, lento para la ira y rico en fidelidad, y se arrepiente de tus amenazas.” ¡Quién sabe si él no se volverá atrás y se arrepentirá, y dejará detrás de sí una bendición: la ofrenda y la libación para el Señor, su Dios! ¡Toquen la trompeta en Sión, prescriban un ayuno, convoquen a una reunión solemne, reúnan al pueblo, convoquen a la asamblea, congreguen a los ancianos, reúnan a los pequeños y a los niños de pecho! ¡Que el recién casado salga de su alcoba y la recién casada de su lecho nupcial! Entre el vestíbulo y el altar lloren los sacerdotes, los ministros del Señor, y digan: “¡Perdona, Señor, a tu pueblo, no entregues tu herencia al oprobio, y que las naciones no se burlen de ella! ¿Por qué se ha de decir entre los pueblos: Dónde está su Dios?” El Señor se llenó de celos por su tierra y se compadeció de su pueblo.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 51) (Versículos 3–6, 12–14, y 17)
La respuesta es: Ten piedad, O Señor, porque hemos pecado.
• ¡Ten piedad de mí, oh Dios, por tu bondad, por tu gran compasión, borra mis faltas! ¡Lávame totalmente de mi culpa y purifícame de mi pecado!
• Porque yo reconozco mis faltas y mi pecado está siempre ante mí. Contra ti, contra ti solo pequé e hice lo que es malo a tus ojos. Por eso, será justa tu sentencia y tu juicio será irreprochable.
• Crea en mí, Dios mío, un corazón puro, y renueva la firmeza de mi espíritu. No me arrojes lejos de tu presencia ni retires de mí tu santo espíritu.
• Devuélveme la alegría de tu salvación, que tu espíritu generoso me sostenga. Abre mis labios, Señor, y mi boca proclamará tu alabanza.
Segunda Lectura (2 Corintios 5:20 – 6:2)

Nosotros somos, entonces, embajadores de Cristo, y es Dios el que exhorta a los hombres por intermedio nuestro. Por eso, les suplicamos en nombre de Cristo: Déjense reconciliar con Dios. A aquel que no conoció el pecado, Dios lo identificó con el pecado en favor nuestro, a fin de que nosotros seamos justificados por él. Y porque somos sus colaboradores, los exhortamos a no recibir en vano la gracia de Dios. Porque él nos dice en la Escritura: En el momento favorable te escuché, y en el día de la salvación te socorrí. Este es el tiempo favorable, este es el día de la salvación.
Evangelio (Mateo 6: 1–6 y 16–18)

Jesús les dijo a sus discípulos: “Guárdense de las buenas acciones hechas a la vista de todos, a fin de que todos las aprecien. Pues en ese caso, no les quedaría premio alguno que esperar de su Padre que está en el cielo. Cuando ayudes a un necesitado, no lo publiques al son de trompetas; no imites a los que dan espectáculo en las sinagogas y en las calles, para que los hombres los alaben. Yo se lo digo: ellos han recibido ya su premio. Tú, cuando ayudes a un necesitado, ni siquiera tu mano izquierda debe saber lo que hace la derecha: tu limosna quedará en secreto. Y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te premiará. Cuando ustedes recen, no imiten a los que dan espectáculo; les gusta orar de pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las plazas, para que la gente los vea. Yo se lo digo: ellos han recibido ya su premio. Pero tú, cuando reces, entra en tu pieza, cierra la puerta y ora a tu Padre que está allí, a solas contigo. Y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te premiará. Cuando ustedes hagan ayuno, no pongan cara triste, como los que dan espectáculo y aparentan palidez, para que todos noten sus ayunos. Yo se lo digo: ellos han recibido ya su premio. Cuando tú hagas ayuno, lávate la cara y perfúmate el cabello. No son los hombres los que notarán tu ayuno, sino tu Padre que ve las cosas secretas, y tu Padre que ve en lo secreto, te premiará.”

Jadi kami ini adalah utusan-utusan Kristus, seakan-akan Allah menasihati kamu dengan perantaraan kami; dalam nama Kristus kami meminta kepadamu: berilah dirimu didamaikan dengan Allah. Dia yang tidak mengenal dosa telah dibuat-Nya menjadi dosa karena kita, supaya dalam Dia kita dibenarkan oleh Allah. Sebagai teman-teman sekerja, kami menasihatkan kamu, supaya kamu jangan membuat menjadi sia-sia kasih karunia Allah, yang telah kamu terima. Sebab Allah berfirman: "Pada waktu Aku berkenan, Aku akan mendengarkan engkau, dan pada hari Aku menyelamatkan, Aku akan menolong engkau." Sesungguhnya, waktu ini adalah waktu perkenanan itu; sesungguhnya, hari ini adalah hari penyelamatan itu.
