But you, O Lord, are our Father, from the beginning, you are our redeemer: this is your name. Why have you made us stray from your ways? Why have you let our heart become hard so that we do not fear you? Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your inheritance. For too long we have become like those you do not rule, like those who do not bear your name. Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down! The mountains would quake at your presence. As when fire sets brushwood ablaze and causes water to boil, make the nations know your name, and your enemies tremble. Let them witness your stunning deeds. No one has ever heard or perceived, no eye has ever seen a God besides you who works for those who trust in him. You have confounded those who acted righteously and who joyfully kept your ways in mind. You are angry with our sins, yet conceal them and we shall be saved. All of us have become like the unclean; all our good deeds are like polluted garments; we have all withered like leaves, blown away by our iniquities. There is no one who calls upon your name, no one who rouses himself to lay hold of you. For you have hidden your face, you have given us up to the power of our evil acts. And yet, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay and you are our potter; we are the work of your hand. Do not let your anger go too far, O Lord, or think of our sins forever. See, we all are your people!

Brothers and sisters: Receive grace and peace from God our Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord. I give thanks constantly to my God for you and for the grace of God given to you in Christ Jesus. For you have been fully enriched in him with words as well as with knowledge, even as the testimony concerning Christ was confirmed in you. You do not lack any spiritual gift and only await the glorious coming of Christ Jesus, our Lord. He will keep you steadfast to the end, and you will be without reproach on the day of the coming of our Lord Jesus. The faithful God will not fail you after calling you to this fellowship with his Son, Christ Jesus, our Lord.

So stay awake, for you do not know when the Lord of the house will come, in the evening or at midnight, when the cock crows or before dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him catch you asleep. And what I say to you, I say to all: watch."

But lay your hand on your instrument, on the son of man whom you make strong for yourself. Then we will never turn away from you; give us life, and we will call on your name.
On this day, we celebrate the 1st Sunday of Advent. We have the Advent Wreath Rites, which are performed right after the entrance hymn, but before the priest's greeting. The theme for the 1st Sunday of Advent is being vigilant.
ReplyDeleteMark states in Chapter 13: Verses 33-35: "Be on watch, be alert... because you do not know when the master of the house is coming..."
Priest: Father, as we begin our Advent pilgrimage, we light a candle of hope. Grant us the courage to hope: hope for your presence, hope for your peace, and hope for your promise. Amen.
The 1st Purple candle is lighted by the family who has been chosen. During that, the choir will sing "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel"
This is a prayer led by the father or a male member of the family:
Dear Lord, if You come today, we would not know how to face You. When we continue to sin and are too proud to accept our faults, come and deliver us, O Lord. Amen.

Dear God, we who claim to be Yours, are often the ones lacking in faith in your Kingship over all things — come, Lord, and open our eyes and strengthen our faith. Amen.

Dear God, many times we do not see that You are working out the best for us because we are immersed in our own desires. When we are blinded by the ways of the world and thus fail to see the leading of Your Spirit — come and restore our sight, O God. When we ruled by anger and resentment and when we undermine the importance of living in Your ways — come and restore our sight, O God. Amen.
Priest: Restore our sight, O God, and make us see Your Son Jesus Christ. Let His light shine on us that we may never be lost in the chaos of this world. Make us see Him as He is: the glorious Savior, the King of kings and Lord of lords. Amen.

Mas tú, Yahvé, eres nuestro Padre, nuestro Redentor; éste ha sido siempre tu Nombre. ¿Por qué, Yahvé, permitiste que nos perdiéramos de tus caminos, que nuestros corazones se pusieran tercos y ya no te temieran? ¡Vuelve, por amor de tus servidores y de tus tribus herederas! Desde hace tiempo somos un pueblo que tú no gobiernas y que tu Nombre ya no protege. ¡Ah, si tú rasgaras los cielos y bajaras! Los cerros se derretirían al verte. Si dieras a conocer tu Nombre a tus contrarios, sería como llama que prende en las ramas secas o como el agua que borbotea en el fuego, y las naciones temblarían en tu presencia al verte realizar prodigios inesperados. Nunca se escuchó, ningún oído oyó, ni ojo alguno ha visto que un Dios, fuera de ti, hiciera tanto en favor de quienes confían en él. Llegue a ustedes la gracia y la paz que proceden de Dios, nuestro Padre, y del Señor Jesucristo. No dejo de dar gracias a Dios por ustedes, por la gracia que él les ha concedido en Cristo Jesús. En efecto, ustedes han sido colmados en él con toda clase de riquezas, las de la palabra y las del conocimiento, en la medida que el testimonio de Cristo se arraigó en ustedes. Por eso, mientras esperan la Revelación de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, no les falta ningún don de la gracia. Él los mantendrá firmes hasta el fin, para que sean irreprochables en el día de la Venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Porque Dios es fiel, y él los llamó a vivir en comunión con su Hijo Jesucristo, nuestro Señor.
Evangelio (Marcos 13: 33–37)
Una lectura del Evangelio Santo según el San Marcos.
Jesús les dijo a Pedro, Santiago, Juan y Andrés, sus discípulos, “Estén preparados y vigilando, porque no saben cuándo llegará ese momento. Cuando un hombre va al extranjero y deja su casa, entrega responsabilidades a sus sirvientes, cada cual recibe su tarea, y al portero le exige que esté vigilante. Lo mismo ustedes: estén vigilantes, porque no saben cuándo regresará el dueño de casa, si al atardecer, a medianoche, al canto del gallo o de madrugada; no sea que llegue de repente y los encuentre dormidos. Lo que les digo a ustedes se lo digo a todos: Estén despiertos.”

ReplyDeleteNuestra última discusión sobre el “hombre culturado” se basará en esta tarea. Por favor, que se unan con su grupo y hagan lo siguiente:
1. Buscar ideas, investigar y evaluar. Identificar a una persona que encarna las cualidades de un hombre culturado las que dio Montagu. Al seleccionar su persona culturada, por favor observen las limitaciones siguientes:
• Debe ser una persona viva, filipino o no
• Una persona que puede vivir durante los años 90
• Excluir el Papa Francisco, el Papa Benedicto XVI y el Santo Juan Pablo II.
2. Sintetizar. Explicar su selección en un ensayo unificado, coherente y adecuadamente apoyado con al menos cinco párrafos. Asegúrense de que anclen su evidencia en las afirmaciones de Montagu y citen fuentes de información recogida. Sin embargo, si su sujeto es una persona popular y proveen información públicamente conocida sobre él o ella, una cita es innecesaria. Es importante que den una mínima de tres ideas del trigésimo-noveno párrafo hasta el cuadragésimo-noveno párrafo del texto, y al menos una idea en el párrafo que hemos discutido en clase.
3. Su ensayo debe ser mecanografiado en un papel, doble espacio, y usa una de estas fuentes: tiempos del romano nuevo, Tahoma, o Garamond con el tamaño de 12 puntos. Que lo traigan a clase el viernes.
Pueden expulsar un miembro de su grupo si falla de contribuir cualquiera en esta tarea. Pero antes de hacer eso, asegúrense de que se pongan en contacto con todos los miembros de su grupo.
Que tengan una colaboración productiva.
