First Reading (Job 7: 1–4 and 6–7)
A reading from the book of Job.
Job states, "Man's life on earth is a thankless job, his days are those of a mercenary. Like a slave he longs for the shade of evening, like a hireling waiting for his wages. Thus I am allotted months of boredom and nights of grief and misery. In bed I say, 'When shall the day break?' On rising, I think, 'When shall evening come?' and I toss restless till dawn. My days pass swifter than a weaver's shuttle, heading without hope to their end. My life is like wind, you well know it, O God; never will I see happiness again."
Second Reading (1 Corinthians 9: 16–19 and 22–23)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.
Whereas I cannot boast of announcing the Gospel: I am bound to do it. Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel! If I preach voluntarily, I could expect my reward, but I have been trusted this office against my will. How can I, then, deserve a reward? In announcing the Gospel, I will do it freely without making use of the rights given to me by the Gospel. So, feeling free with everybody, I have become everybody's slave in order to gain a greater number. To the weak, I made myself weak, to win the weak. So, I made myself all things to all people, in order to save, by all possible means, some of them. This I do for the Gospel, so that I too, have a share of it.
Gospel (Mark 1: 29–39)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark.
On leaving the synagogue, Jesus went to the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. As Simon's mother-in-law was sick in bed with fever, they immediately told him about her. Jesus went to her and taking her by the hand, raised her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. That evening at sundown, people brought to Jesus all the sick and those who had evil spirits: the whole town was pressing around the door. Jesus healed many who had various diseases, and drove out many demons; but he did not let them speak, for they knew who he was. Very early in the morning, before daylight, Jesus went off to a lonely place where he prayed. Simon and the others went out also, searching for him; and when they found him, they stated, "Everyone is searching for you." Then Jesus answered, "Let us go to the nearby villages so that I may preach there too; for that is why I came." So Jesus set out to preach in all the synagogues through Galilee; he also cast out plenty of demons.

Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 147) (Verses 1–6)

How good it is to sing to our God, how sweet and befitting to praise him! The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel.
He heals their broken hearts and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of stars, he calls each of them by name.
The Lord is great and mighty in power; his wisdom is beyond measure. The Lord lifts up the humble, but casts the wicked to the ground.

¿No es una servidumbre la vida del hombre sobre la tierra? ¿No son sus jornadas las de un asalariado? Como un esclavo que suspira por la sombra, como un asalariado que espera su jornal, así me han tocado en herencia meses vacíos, me han sido asignadas noches de dolor. Al acostarme, pienso: “¿Cuándo me levantaré?” Pero la noche se hace muy larga y soy presa de la inquietud hasta la aurora. Mis días corrieron más veloces que una lanzadera: al terminarse el hilo, llegaron a su fin. Recuerda que mi vida es un soplo y que mis ojos no verán más la felicidad.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 147) (Versículos 1–6)
La respuesta es: Adora al Señor que cura a los que están afligidos. (O puedes decir ¡aleluya!)
• ¡Qué bueno es cantar a nuestro Dios, qué agradable y merecida es su alabanza! El Señor reconstruye a Jerusalén y congrega a los dispersos de Israel.
• Él sana a los que están afligidos y les venda las heridas. Él cuenta el número de las estrellas y llama a cada una por su nombre.
• Nuestro Señor es grande y poderoso, su inteligencia no tiene medida. El Señor eleva a los oprimidos y humilla a los malvados hasta el polvo.
Segunda Lectura (1 Corintios 9: 16–23)
Una lectura de la primera carta de San Pablo a los corintios.
Si anuncio el Evangelio, no lo hago para gloriarme: al contrario, es para mí una necesidad imperiosa. ¡Ay de mí si no predicara el Evangelio! Si yo realizara esta tarea por iniciativa propia, merecería ser recompensado, pero si lo hago por necesidad, quiere decir que se me ha confiado una misión. ¿Cuál es entonces mi recompensa? Predicar gratuitamente la Buena Noticia, renunciando al derecho que esa Buena Noticia me confiere. En efecto, siendo libre, me hice esclavo de todos, para ganar al mayor número posible. Me hice judío con los judíos para ganar a los judíos; me sometí a la Ley, con los que están sometidos a ella (aunque yo no lo estoy) a fin de ganar a los que están sometidos a la Ley. Y me hice débil con los débiles, para ganar a los débiles. Me hice todo para todos, para ganar por lo menos a algunos, a cualquier precio. Y todo esto, por amor a la Buena Noticia, a fin de poder participar de sus bienes.
Evangelio (Marcos 1: 29–39)

Al salir de la sinagoga, Jesús fue a casa de Simón y de Andrés, con Santiago y Juan. La suegra de Simón estaba acostada con fiebre; en seguida le hablaron de ella. Entonces, acercándose él, la tomó de la mano y la levantó. Al instante la dejó la fiebre, y ella les servía. Cuando cayó la tarde, luego que el sol se puso, le trajeron todos los que estaban enfermos y los endemoniados; y toda la ciudad se agolpó a la puerta. Jesús sanó a muchos que estaban enfermos de diversas enfermedades y echó fuera muchos demonios; y no dejaba hablar a los demonios, porque lo conocían. Levantándose muy de mañana, siendo aún muy oscuro, Jesús salió y se fue a un lugar desierto, y allí oraba. Le buscaron Simón y los que estaban con él; y hallándole, le dijeron: “Todos te buscan.” Luego, él les dijo: “Vamos a los lugares vecinos, para que predique también allí, porque para esto he venido.” Entonces, Jesús predicaba en las sinagogas de ellos en toda Galilea, y echaba fuera los demonios.
