First Reading (Acts 1:15–17, 20a and 20c–26)
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
Peter stood up in the midst of the brothers. There was a group of about ten dozens of people in the one place. He stated, "My brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand through the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who was the guide for those who arrested Jesus. He was numbered among us and was allotted a share in this ministry. For it is written in the Book of Psalms: 'May another take his office.' Therefore, it is necessary that one of the men who accompanied us the whole time the Lord Jesus came and went among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day on which he was taken up from us, become with us a witness to his resurrection." So they proposed two, Judas called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias. Then they prayed, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this apostolic ministry from which Judas turned away to go to his own place." Then they gave lots to them, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was counted with the eleven apostles.
Second Reading (1 John 4: 11–16)
A reading from the first letter of Saint John.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us. This is how we know that we remain in him and he in us, that he has given us of his Spirit. Moreover, we have seen and testify that the Father sent his Son as savior of the world. Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God. We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us. God is love, and whoever remains in love, remains in God, and God in him.
Gospel (John 17: 11b–19)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.
Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed with these words: "Holy Father, keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are one. When I was with them I protected them in your name that you gave me, and I guarded them, and none of them was lost except the son of destruction. In order that the Scripture might be fulfilled. But now, I am coming to you. I speak this in the world so that they may share my joy completely. I gave them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the evil one. They do not belong the world any more than I belong to the world. Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth."

Uno de aquellos días, tomando Pedro la palabra, dijo a los creyentes que se habían reunido, que eran unas ciento veinte personas: “Hermanos, tenía que cumplirse lo que el Espíritu Santo, por medio de David, había dicho en la Escritura acerca de Judas, el que sirvió de guía a los que apresaron a Jesús. Judas era uno de los nuestros y tenía parte en nuestro trabajo. Porque en el libro de los Salmos dice: ‘Que otro ocupe su cargo.’ “Tenemos aquí hombres que nos han acompañado todo el tiempo que el Señor Jesús estuvo entre nosotros, desde que fue bautizado por Juan hasta que subió al cielo. Es necesario, pues, que uno de ellos sea agregado a nosotros, para que junto con nosotros dé testimonio de la resurrección de Jesús.” Entonces propusieron a dos: a José, conocido como Barsabás y también llamado Justo, y a Matías. Y oraron así: “Señor, tú que conoces los corazones de todos, muéstranos a cuál de estos dos has escogido para que tome a su cargo el servicio de apostolado que Judas perdió por su pecado, cuando se fue al lugar que le correspondía.” Echaron suertes y le tocó a Matías, que desde aquel momento quedó agregado a los once apóstoles.

La respuesta es: El Señor ha puesto su trono en el cielo.
• Bendeciré al Señor con toda mi alma; bendeciré con todo mi ser su santo nombre. Bendeciré al Señor con toda mi alma; no olvidaré ninguno de sus beneficios.
• Tan inmenso es su amor por los que le honran como inmenso es el cielo sobre la tierra. Nuestros pecados ha alejado de nosotros como ha alejado del oriente el occidente.
• El Señor ha puesto su trono en el cielo, y su reino domina sobre todo. ¡Bendigan al Señor, ángeles poderosos! Ustedes que cumplen sus órdenes, que están atentos a obedecerle.
Segunda Lectura (1 Juan 4: 11–16)
Una lectura de la primera carta de San Juan.
Queridos hermanos, si Dios nos ha amado así, también nosotros debemos amarnos unos a otros. A Dios nunca lo ha visto nadie; pero si nos amamos unos a otros, Dios vive en nosotros y su amor se hace realidad en nosotros. La prueba de que nosotros vivimos en Dios y que él vive en nosotros es que nos ha dado su Espíritu. Y nosotros mismos hemos visto y declaramos que el Padre envió a su Hijo para salvar al mundo. Todo aquel que reconoce que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, vive en Dios y Dios en él. Así hemos llegado a saber y creer que Dios nos ama. Dios es amor, y el que vive en el amor vive en Dios y Dios en él.
Evangelio (Juan 17: 11–19)

Jesús miró al cielo y dijo: “Yo no voy a seguir en el mundo, pero ellos sí van a seguir en el mundo, mientras que yo voy para estar contigo. Padre santo, cuídalos con el poder de tu nombre, el nombre que me has dado, para que estén completamente unidos, como tú y yo. Cuando estaba con ellos en este mundo, los cuidaba y los protegía con el poder de tu nombre, el nombre que me has dado. Y ninguno de ellos se perdió, sino aquel que ya estaba perdido, para que se cumpliera lo que dice la Escritura. Ahora voy a ti; pero digo estas cosas mientras estoy en el mundo, para que ellos se llenen de la misma perfecta alegría que yo tengo. Yo les he comunicado tu palabra; pero el mundo los odia porque no son del mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo. No te pido que los saques del mundo, sino que los protejas del mal. Así como yo no soy del mundo, tampoco ellos son del mundo. Conságralos a ti por medio de la verdad: tu palabra es la verdad. Como me enviaste a mí al mundo, así yo los envío. Y por causa de ellos me consagro a mí mismo, para que también ellos sean consagrados por medio de la verdad.”
