First reading (Malachi 3: 19–20)

Lo, the day is coming, blazing like an oven, when all the proud and all evildoers will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire, leaving them neither root nor branch, says the LORD of hosts. But for you who fear my name, there will arise the sun of justice with its healing rays.
Second reading (2 Thessalonians 3: 7–12)
A reading from the second letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians.
Brothers and sisters: You know how one must imitate us. For we did not act in a disorderly way among you, nor did we eat food received free from anyone. On the contrary, in toil and drudgery, night and day we worked, so as not to burden any of you. Not that we do not have the right. Rather, we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you, so that you might imitate us. In fact, when we were with you, we instructed you that if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat. We hear that some are conducting themselves among you in a disorderly way, by not keeping busy but minding the business of others. Such people we instruct and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and to eat their own food.
Gospel (Luke 21: 5–19)

While some people were speaking about how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings, Jesus said, "All that you see here—the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down." Then they asked him, "Teacher, when will this happen? And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?" He answered, "See that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and 'The time has come.' Do not follow them! When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end." Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place; and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky. "Before all this happens, however, they will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name. It will lead to your giving testimony. Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute. You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives."

And Jesus stated, "Nations will fight each other and kingdom will oppose kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines, and plagues; in many places strange and terrifying signs from heaven will be seen. Before all this happens, people will lay their hands on you and persecute you; you will be delivered to the Jewish courts and be put in prison, and for my sake you will be brought before kings and governors. This will be your opportunity to bear witness. So keep this in mind: do not worry in advance about what to answer, for I will give you words and wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, and brothers, by relatives and friends, and some of you will be put to death. But even though you are hated by all for my name's sake, not a hair of your head will perish. Through perseverance you will possess your own selves."

Porque llega el Día, abrasador como un horno. Todos los arrogantes y los que hacen el mal serán como paja; el Día que llega los consumirá, dice el Señor de los ejércitos, hasta no dejarles raíz ni rama. Pero para ustedes, los que temen mi Nombre, brillará el sol de justicia que trae la salud en sus rayos, y saldrán brincando como terneros bien alimentados.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 98) (Versículos 4B–9)
La respuesta es: El Señor viene para regir la Tierra con justicia.
• Prorrumpan en cantos jubilosos. Canten al Señor con el arpa y al son de instrumentos musicales; con clarines y sonidos de trompeta aclamen al Señor, que es Rey.

Aunque teníamos el derecho de proceder de otra manera, queríamos darles un ejemplo para imitar. En aquella ocasión les impusimos esta regla: el que no quiera trabajar, que no coma. Ahora, sin embargo, nos enteramos de que algunos de ustedes viven ociosamente, no haciendo nada y entrometiéndose en todo. A estos les mandamos y los exhortamos en el Señor Jesucristo que trabajen en paz para ganarse su pan.

Cuando oigan hablar de guerras y revoluciones no se alarmen; es necesario que esto ocurra antes, pero no llegará tan pronto el fin.” Después les dijo: “Se levantará nación contra nación y reino contra reino. この読み物は第二のテサロニケ人への手紙です。
どういう生活をすればよいかは、もうよくわかっているはずです。私たちは、そちらで、だらしのない生活をしたことはありません。それを手本にしてください。私たちは、だれからも、ただでパンをもらいませんでした。だれにも負担をかけたくなかったので、必要な物は、昼夜働いて得た収入で手に入れました。私たちにそれを要求する権利がなかったからではなく、自分の生活は自分で支えるという模範を、身をもって示したかったのです。そちらにいた時にも、「働かない者は食べる資格がない」と教えたはずです。ところが聞くところによると、あなたがたの中には働くのをいやがり、一日中ぶらぶらして、うわさ話ばかりしている人がいるということです。そういう人たちに、主イエス・キリストの名によって忠告し、また命じます。腰を落ち着けて、まじめに仕事に精を出し、自活できるようになりなさい。

弟子たちの何人かが、宮のすばらしい石細工や壁の装飾に目を奪われ、感心していました。するとイエスは、彼らに言われました。「今は賞賛の的になっているこれらのものが、一つも崩れずにほかの石の上に残らないほど完全に破壊され、瓦礫の山となる日がもうすぐ来ます。」驚いた弟子たちが質問しました。「いつのことですか！ その前に、何か前兆があるのでしょうか。」イエスはお答えになりました。「だれにもだまされないようにしなさい。『私がキリストだ。今こそ時が来た』と言う者が大ぜい現れるからです。そういう人々を信じてはいけません。また、戦争や暴動が始まったということを聞いても、あわてふためかないようにしなさい。戦争は必ず起こりますが、すぐに終わりが来るわけではありません。民族は民族に、国は国に敵対して立ち上がり、すさまじい地震が起こり、多くの国がききんに見舞われ、伝染病が流行し、恐ろしい異変が天に現れます。しかし、これらのことが起こる前に、まず大きな迫害の時代が来ます。あなたがたは、わたしを信じているばかりに、会堂や牢獄、王や総督の前に引き立てて行かれます。その結果、かえってメシヤ（救い主）のことが広く知られ、あがめられるようになるのです。だから、人々の訴えにどう釈明しようかと心配してはいけません。答えることは、わたしが教えてあげます。どんな反対者も反論できないことばと知恵です。最も身近な両親、兄弟、親類、友人までもがあなたがたを裏切るようになるでしょう。中には殺される者もあります。わたしの弟子だというので、みながあなたがたを憎むようになるでしょう。しかし、あなたがたの髪の毛一本さえ失われることはありません。忍耐して忍び通せば、いのちを得るのです。

Dan kamu akan diserahkan juga oleh orang tuamu, saudara-saudaramu, kaum keluargamu dan sahabat-sahabatmu dan beberapa orang di antara kamu akan dibunuh dan kamu akan dibenci semua orang oleh karena nama-Ku. Tetapi tidak sehelai pun dari rambut kepalamu akan hilang. Kalau kamu tetap bertahan, kamu akan memperoleh hidupmu."
