First reading (Jonah 3: 1–5, 10)
The word of the LORD came to Jonah, saying: "Set out for the great city of Nineveh, and announce to it the message that I will tell you." So Jonah made ready and went to Nineveh, according to the LORD'S bidding. Now Nineveh was an enormously large city; it took three days to go through it. Jonah began his journey through the city, and had gone but a single day's walk announcing, "Forty days more and Nineveh shall be destroyed," when the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast and all of them, great and small, put on sackcloth. When God saw by their actions how they turned from their evil way, he repented of the evil that he had threatened to do to them; he did not carry it out.
Second reading (1 Corinthians 7: 29–31)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.
I tell you, brothers and sisters, the time is running out. From now on, let those having wives act as not having them, those weeping as not weeping, those rejoicing as not rejoicing, those buying as not owning, those using the world as not using it fully. For the world in its present form is passing away.
Gospel (Mark 1: 14–20)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark.
After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: "This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." Then they abandoned their nets and followed him. He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him.

It was a very large city, and it took three days just to cross it. So Jonah walked a single day's journey and began proclaiming, "Forty days more and Nineveh will be destroyed." The people of the city believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened upon them.
Second reading (1 Corinthians 7: 29–31)

I state this, brothers and sisters: time is running out, and those who are married must live as if not married; those who weep as if not weeping; those who are happy as if they were not happy; those buying something as if they had not bought it; and those enjoying the present life as if they were not enjoying it, for the order of this world is vanishing.

En aquellos días, el Señor volvió a hablar a Jonás y le dijo: "Levántate y vete a Nínive, la gran capital, para anunciar ahí el mensaje que te voy a indicar." Se levantó Jonás y se fue a Nínive, como le había mandado el Señor. Nínive era una ciudad enorme: hacían falta tres días para recorrerla. Jonás caminó por la ciudad durante un día, pregonando: "Dentro de cuarenta días Nínive será destruida." Los ninivitas creyeron en Dios, ordenaron un ayuno y se vistieron de sayal, grandes y pequeños. Cuando Dios vio sus obras y cómo se convertían de su mala vida, cambió de parecer y no les mandó el castigo que había determinado imponerles.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 25) (Versículos 4–9)
La respuesta es: Descúbrenos, Señor, tus caminos.
• Descúbrenos, Señor, tus caminos, guíanos con la verdad de su doctrina. Tú eres nuestro Dios y salvador y tenemos en ti nuestra esperanza.

Jesús les dijo: "Síganme y haré de ustedes pescadores de hombres." Inmediatamente dejaron las redes y lo siguieron. Un poco más adelante, vio a Santiago y a Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, que estaban en una barca, remendando sus redes. Los llamó, y ellos, dejando en la barca a su padre con los trabajadores, se fueron con Jesús.

Muling sinabi ni Yahweh kay Jonas, “Pumunta ka sa Lunsod ng Nineve at ipahayag mo ang mga ipinapasabi ko sa iyo.” Nagpunta nga si Jonas sa Nineve. Malaki ang lunsod na ito; aabutin ng tatlong araw kung ito ay lalakarin. Siya'y pumasok sa lunsod. Pagkaraan ng maghapong paglalakad, malakas niyang ipinahayag, “Gugunawin ang Nineve pagkaraan ng apatnapung araw!” Naniwala ang mga tagaroon sa pahayag na ito mula sa Diyos. Kaya, nag-ayuno silang lahat at nagdamit ng panluksa bilang tanda ng lubos na pagsisisi at pagtalikod sa kanilang mga kasalanan. Nagpatuloy siya sa paglalakad, at sa di-kalayuan ay nakita naman niya ang magkapatid na Santiago at Juan, na mga anak ni Zebedeo. Sila'y nasa kanilang bangka at nag-aayos ng mga lambat. Tinawag din sila agad ni Jesus at sila ay sumunod din sa kanya. Iniwan nila sa bangka ang kanilang ama na kasama ang kanilang mga upahang manggagawa.

Datanglah firman TUHAN kepada Yunus untuk kedua kalinya, demikian: "Bangunlah, pergilah ke Niniwe, kota yang besar itu, dan sampaikanlah kepadanya seruan yang Kufirmankan kepadamu." Bersiaplah Yunus, lalu pergi ke Niniwe, sesuai dengan firman Allah. Niniwe adalah sebuah kota yang mengagumkan besarnya, tiga hari perjalanan luasnya. Mulailah Yunus masuk ke dalam kota itu sehari perjalanan jauhnya, lalu berseru: "Empat puluh hari lagi, maka Niniwe akan ditunggangbalikkan." Orang Niniwe percaya kepada Allah, lalu mereka mengumumkan puasa dan mereka, baik orang dewasa maupun anak-anak, mengenakan kain kabung. Ketika Allah melihat perbuatan mereka itu, yakni bagaimana mereka berbalik dari tingkah lakunya yang jahat, maka menyesallah Allah karena malapetaka yang telah dirancangkan-Nya terhadap mereka, dan Ia pun tidak jadi melakukannya.
