First reading (Deuteronomy 6: 2–6)
A reading from the book of Deuteronomy.
Moses spoke to the people, saying: "Fear the LORD, your God, and keep, throughout the days of your lives, all his statutes and commandments which I enjoin on you, and thus have long life. Hear then, Israel, and be careful to observe them, that you may grow and prosper the more, in keeping with the promise of the LORD, the God of your fathers, to give you a land flowing with milk and honey. "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone! Therefore, you shall love the LORD, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. Take to heart these words which I enjoin on you today."
Second reading (Hebrews 7: 23–28)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Hebrews.
Brothers and sisters: The Levitical priests were many because they were prevented by death from remaining in office, but Jesus, because he remains forever, has a priesthood that does not pass away. Therefore, he is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he lives forever to make intercession for them. It was fitting that we should have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, higher than the heavens. He has no need, as did the high priests, to offer sacrifice day after day, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did that once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints men subject to weakness to be high priests, but the word of the oath, which was taken after the law, appoints a son, who has been made perfect forever.
Gospel (Mark 12: 28–34)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark.
One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him, "Which is the first of all the commandments?" Jesus replied, "The first is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these." The scribe said to him, "Well said, teacher. You are right in saying, 'He is One and there is no other than he.' And 'to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself' is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices." And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Listen, then, Israel, observe these commandments and put them into practice. If you do this, you will be well and you will multiply in this land flowing with milk and honey, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, promised you. Listen, Israel: the Lord, our God, is One God. And you shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength. Engrave on your heart the commandments that I pass on to you today.
Second reading (Hebrews 7: 23–28)

Brothers and sisters: The former priests were many since, as mortal men, they could not remain in office. But Jesus remains forever and the priesthood shall not be taken from him. Consequently, he is able to save for all time those who approach God through him. He always lives to intercede on their behalf. It was fitting that our High Priest be holy, undefiled, set apart from sinners and exalted above the heavens; a priest who does not first need to offer sacrifice for himself before offering for the sins of the people, as high priests do. He offered himself in sacrifice once and for all. And whereas the Law elected weak men as high priests, now, after the Law, the word of God with an oath appointed the Son, made perfect forever.
Gospel (Mark 12: 28–34)

A teacher of the Law had been listening to this discussion and admired how Jesus answered them. So he came up and asked him, "Which commandment is the first of all?" Jesus answered, "The first is: Hear, Israel! The Lord, our God, is One Lord; and you shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. And after this comes another one: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these two." The teacher of the Law stated to him, "Well spoken, Master; you are right when you say that he is one and there is no other. To love him with all our heart, with all our understanding, and with all our strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves is more important than any burnt offering or sacrifice." Jesus approved this answer and stated, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." But after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions.

He is the rock in whom I take refuge. He is my shield, my powerful savior, my stronghold. I call on the Lord, who is worthy of praise: he saves me from my enemies!
The Lord lives! Praised be my rock! Exalted be my savior God. "He has given victories to his king; he has shown his love to his anointed ones, to David, and to his descendants forever."

Temerás a Yahvé, tu Dios, y guardarás todos los días de tu vida sus mandamientos y sus normas que te enseño hoy. Que los guarden tus hijos y los hijos de tus hijos, para que vivan largos años. Escucha, pues, Israel, y cuida de poner en práctica lo que ha de traerte felicidad y prosperidad en esta tierra que mana leche y miel, como lo prometió Yahvé, Dios de tus padres. Escucha, Israel: Yahvé, nuestro Dios, es Yahvé-único. Y tú amarás a Yahvé, tu Dios, con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con todas tus fuerzas. Graba en tu corazón los mandamientos que yo te entrego hoy.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 18) (Versículos 2–4, 47 and 51)

Segunda lectura (Hebreos 7: 23–28)
Una lectura de la carta de San Pablo a los Hebreos.
Los sacerdotes anteriores se sucedían el uno al otro porque, siendo mortales, no podían permanecer. Jesús, en cambio, permanece para siempre y no se le quitará el sacerdocio. Por eso es capaz de salvar de una vez a los que por su medio se acercan a Dios. Él sigue viviendo e intercediendo en favor de ellos. Así había de ser nuestro sumo sacerdote: santo, sin ningún defecto ni pecado, apartado del mundo de los pecadores y elevado por encima de los cielos. A diferencia de los sumos sacerdotes, él no tiene necesidad de ofrecer diariamente sacrificios, primero por sus pecados, y luego por los del pueblo. Y para el pueblo no lo hizo sino una sola vez ofreciéndose a sí mismo. Así, pues, los sumos sacerdotes que establece la Ley demuestran sus limitaciones, mientras que ahora, después de la Ley, Dios habla y pronuncia un juramento para establecer al Hijo eternamente perfecto.
Evangelio (Marcos 12: 28–34)
Una lectura del Evangelio Santo según el San Marcos.
Entonces se adelantó un maestro de la Ley. Había escuchado la discusión y estaba admirado de cómo Jesús les había contestado. Entonces le preguntó: “¿Qué mandamiento es el primero de todos?” Jesús le contestó: “El primer mandamiento es: Escucha, Israel: El Señor nuestro Dios es un único Señor. Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con toda tu inteligencia y con todas tus fuerzas. Y después viene este otro: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. No hay ningún mandamiento más importante que éstos.” El maestro de la Ley le contestó: “Has hablado muy bien, Maestro; tienes razón cuando dices que el Señor es único y que no hay otro fuera de él, y que amarlo con todo el corazón, con toda la inteligencia y con todas las fuerzas y amar al prójimo como a sí mismo vale más que todas las víctimas y sacrificios.” Jesús vio que ésta era respuesta sabia y le dijo: “No estás lejos del Reino de Dios.” Y después de esto, nadie más se atrevió a hacerle nuevas preguntas.

Bukod dito, kailangan noon ang maraming pari dahil namamatay sila at hindi nakakapagpatuloy sa panunungkulan. Ngunit si Jesus ay buháy magpakailanman, kaya't walang katapusan ang kanyang pagkapari. Dahil dito, lubusan niyang maililigtas ang lahat ng lumalapit sa Diyos sa pamamagitan niya, sapagkat siya'y nabubuhay magpakailanman upang mamagitan para sa kanila. Samakatuwid, si Jesus ang Pinakapunong Pari na kinakailangan natin. Siya'y banal, walang kasalanan ni kapintasan man, inihiwalay sa mga makasalanan at itinaas sa kalangitan. Hindi siya katulad ng ibang mga pinakapunong pari na kailangan pang mag-alay ng mga handog araw-araw, una'y para sa sarili nilang kasalanan, at pagkatapos, para sa kasalanan ng mga tao. Minsan lamang naghandog si Jesus, at ito'y pangmagpakailanman, nang ihandog niya ang kanyang sarili. Ang Kautusan ay nagtalaga ng mga punong pari na may mga kahinaan, ngunit ang pangako ng Diyos na may panunumpa, na dumating pagkatapos ng Kautusan, ay humirang sa Anak na walang kapintasan magpakailanman.
Ebanghelyo (Marcos 12: 28–34)

Ang kanilang pagtatalo ay narinig ng isa sa mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan na naroon. Nakita niyang mahusay ang pagkasagot ni Jesus sa mga Saduseo kaya siya naman ang lumapit upang magtanong, “Alin po ba ang pinakamahalagang utos?” Sumagot si Jesus, “Ito ang pinakamahalagang utos: ‘Pakinggan mo, Israel! Ang Panginoon na ating Diyos—siya lamang ang Panginoon. Ibigin mo ang Panginoon mong Diyos nang buong puso mo, buong kaluluwa mo, buong pag-iisip mo at buong lakas mo.’ Ito naman ang pangalawa, ‘Ibigin mo ang iyong kapwa gaya ng pag-ibig mo sa iyong sarili.’ Wala nang ibang utos na hihigit pa sa mga ito.” Wika ng tagapagturo ng Kautusan, “Tama po, Guro! Totoo ang sinabi ninyo. Iisa nga ang Diyos at wala nang iba liban sa kanya. At higit na mahalaga ang umibig sa kanya nang buong puso, buong pag-iisip at buong lakas, at ang umibig sa kapwa gaya ng pag-ibig sa sarili, kaysa magdala ng lahat ng handog na susunugin at iba pang mga alay.” Nakita ni Jesus na maganda ang sagot nito kaya't sinabi niya, “Hindi ka na nalalayo sa kaharian ng Diyos.” At mula noon ay wala nang nangahas na magtanong kay Jesus.
