First reading (Isaiah 45: 1 and 4–6)
A reading from the book of Isaiah.
Thus says the LORD to his anointed, Cyrus, whose right hand I grasp, subduing nations before him, and making kings run in his service, opening doors before him and leaving the gates unbarred: For the sake of Jacob, my servant, of Israel, my chosen one, I have called you by your name, giving you a title, though you knew me not. I am the LORD and there is no other, there is no God besides me. It is I who arm you, though you know me not, so that toward the rising and the setting of the sun people may know that there is none besides me. I am the LORD, there is no other.
Second reading (1 Thessalonians 1: 1–5B)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians.
Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: grace to you and peace. We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father, knowing, brothers and sisters loved by God, how you were chosen. For our gospel did not come to you in word alone, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with much conviction.
Gospel (Matthew 22: 15–21)

The Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap Jesus in speech. They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. And you are not concerned with anyone's opinion, for you do not regard a person's status. Tell us, then, what is your opinion: Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?" Knowing their malice, Jesus said, "Why are you testing me, you hypocrites? Show me the coin that pays the census tax." Then they handed him the Roman coin. He said to them, "Whose image is this and whose inscription?" They replied, "Caesar's." At that, he said to them, "Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God."

We constantly recall before God our Father the work of your faith, the labors of your love and your endurance in waiting for Christ Jesus our Lord. We remember, brothers and sisters, the circumstances of your being called. The gospel we brought you was such not only in words. Miracles, Holy Spirit and plenty of everything were given to you.
Gospel (Matthew 22: 15–21)

The Pharisees went out and took counsel on how they could trap Jesus with his own words. They then sent their disciples with the members of Herod's party for this purpose. They stated to Jesus, "Master, we know that you are an honest man and truly teach God's way; you are not influenced by others nor are you afraid of anyone. Tell us, then, what you think: is it against the Law to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" But Jesus understood their evil intent, and stated to them, "Hypocrites! Why are you testing me? Show me the coin with which you pay the taxes." They showed him a denarius, and Jesus stated to them, "Whose head is this, and whose name?" They answered, "Caesar's." Then Jesus replied, "Therefore, return to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's."

Así habla el Señor a Ciro, su ungido: “Yo te he llevado de la mano para doblegar a las naciones y desarmar a los reyes. Hice que las puertas se abrieran ante ti y no volvieran a cerrarse. Por amor a mi servidor Jacob, a Israel, mi elegido, te he llamado por tu nombre y te he lanzado sin que tú me conocieras. Yo soy el Señor, y no hay otro igual, fuera de mí no hay ningún otro Dios. Sin que me conocieras estuve contigo, para que todos sepan, del oriente al poniente, que nada existe fuera de mí.”
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 96) (Versículos 1, 3–5, y 7–10)
La respuesta es: Dale al Señor gloria y honor.
• Canten al Señor un canto nuevo, cante al Señor toda la tierra. Anuncien su gloria entre las naciones, y sus maravillas entre los pueblos.
• Porque el Señor es grande y muy digno de alabanza, más temible que todos los dioses. Los dioses de los pueblos no son más que apariencia, pero el Señor hizo el cielo.

Evangelio (Mateo 22: 15–21)

Los fariseos se movieron para ver juntos el modo de atrapar a Jesús en sus propias palabras. Le enviaron, pues, discípulos suyos junto con algunos partidarios de Herodes a decirle: “Maestro, sabemos que eres honrado y que enseñas con sinceridad el camino de Dios. No te preocupas por quién te escucha, ni te dejas influenciar por nadie. Danos, pues, tu parecer: ¿Está contra la Ley pagar el impuesto al César? ¿Debemos pagarlo o no?” Jesús se dio cuenta de sus malas intenciones y les contestó: “¡Hipócritas! ¿Por qué me ponen trampas? Muéstrenme la moneda que se les cobra.” Y ellos le mostraron un denario. Entonces Jesús preguntó: “¿De quién es esta cara y el nombre que lleva escrito?” Contestaron: “Del César.” Jesús les replicó: “Devuelvan, pues, al César las cosas del César, y a Dios lo que corresponde a Dios.”

Ito ang ipinahayag ng Panginoon kay Ciro, ang pinunong kanyang pinili, upang sakupin ang mga bansa at alisan ng kapangyarihan ang mga hari. Ibubukas ko ang mga pintuang-lunsod para sa kanya habang siya'y pumapasok. Tinawag kita sa iyong pangalan, alang-alang sa aking lingkod na si Israel na aking hinirang. Binigyan kita ng malaking karangalan, kahit hindi mo ako nakikilala. Ako ang Panginoon, ako lamang ang Diyos at wala nang iba; palalakasin kita, kahit hindi mo ako nakikilala. Ginawa ko ito upang ako ay makilala mula sa silangan hanggang kanluran, at makilala nila na ako ang Panginoon, ako lamang ang Diyos at wala nang iba.

Beginilah firman TUHAN: "Inilah firman-Ku kepada orang yang Kuurapi, kepada Koresh yang tangan kanannya Kupegang supaya Aku menundukkan bangsa-bangsa di depannya dan melucuti raja-raja, supaya Aku membuka pintu-pintu di depannya dan supaya pintu-pintu gerbang tidak tinggal tertutup: Oleh karena hamba-Ku Yakub dan Israel, pilihan-Ku, maka Aku memanggil engkau dengan namamu, menggelari engkau, sekalipun engkau tidak mengenal Aku. Akulah TUHAN dan tidak ada yang lain; kecuali Aku tidak ada Allah. Aku telah mempersenjatai engkau, sekalipun engkau tidak mengenal Aku, supaya orang tahu dari terbitnya matahari sampai terbenamnya, bahwa tidak ada yang lain di luar Aku. Akulah TUHAN dan tidak ada yang lain.

• Kepada TUHAN, hai suku-suku bangsa, kepada TUHAN sajalah kemuliaan dan kekuatan! Berilah kepada TUHAN kemuliaan nama-Nya, bawalah persembahan dan masuklah ke pelataran-Nya!
• Sujudlah menyembah kepada TUHAN dengan berhiaskan kekudusan, gemetarlah di hadapan-Nya, hai segenap bumi! Katakanlah di antara bangsa-bangsa: "TUHAN itu Raja! Sungguh tegak dunia, tidak goyang. Ia akan mengadili bangsa-bangsa dalam kebenaran."
