First reading (Deuteronomy 4: 1–2 and 6–8)
A reading from the book of Deuteronomy.
Moses said to the people: "Now, Israel, hear the statutes and decrees which I am teaching you to observe, that you may live, and may enter in and take possession of the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you. In your observance of the commandments of the LORD, your God, which I enjoin upon you, you shall not add to what I command you nor subtract from it. Observe them carefully, for thus will you give evidence of your wisdom and intelligence to the nations, who will hear of all these statutes and say, 'This great nation is truly a wise and intelligent people.' For what great nation is there that has gods so close to it as the LORD, our God, is to us whenever we call upon him? Or what great nation has statutes and decrees that are as just as this whole law which I am setting before you today?"
Second reading (James 1: 17–18, 21b–22, and 27)

Dearest brothers and sisters: All good giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no alteration or shadow caused by change. He willed to give us birth by the word of truth that we may be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. Humbly welcome the word that has been planted in you and is able to save your souls. Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
Gospel (Mark 7: 1–8, 14–15, and 21–23)

When the Pharisees with some scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus, they observed that some of his disciples ate their meals with unclean, that is, unwashed, hands. For the Pharisees and, in fact, all Jews, do not eat without carefully washing their hands, keeping the tradition of the elders. And on coming from the marketplace they do not eat without purifying themselves. And there are many other things that they have traditionally observed, the purification of cups and jugs and kettles and beds. So the Pharisees and scribes questioned him, "Why do your disciples not follow the tradition of the elders but instead eat a meal with unclean hands?" He responded, "Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts. You disregard God's commandment but cling to human tradition." He summoned the crowd again and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand. Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person; but the things that come out from within are what defile. "From within people, from their hearts, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils come from within and they defile."

But keep the commandments for the Lord your God, as I command you. If you observe and practice them, other people will regard you as wise and intelligent. When they come to know all those laws, they will say, 'There is no people as wise and as intelligent as this great nation.' For in truth, is there a nation as great as ours, whose gods are as near to it as the Lord, our God, is to us whenever we call upon him? And is there a nation as great as ours whose norms and laws are as just as this Law which I give you today?"

One day the Pharisees gathered around Jesus and with them were some teachers of the Law who had just come from Jerusalem. They noticed that some of his disciples were eating their meal with unclean hands, that is, without washing them. Now the Pharisees, and in fact, all the Jews, never eat without washing their hands for they follow the tradition received from their ancestors; nor do they eat anything when they come from the market without first washing themselves. And there are many other traditions they observe, for example, the ritual washing of cups, pots, and plates. So the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law asked Jesus, "Why do your disciples not follow the tradition of the elders, but eat with unclean hands?" Jesus answered, "You shallow people! How well Isaiah prophesied of you when he wrote: This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. The worship they offer me is worthless, for what they teach are only human rules. You even put aside the commandment of God to hold fast to human tradition." Jesus then called the people to him again and stated to them, "Listen to me, all of you, and try to understand. Nothing that enters one from outside can make that person unclean. It is what comes out from within that makes unclean." Jesus continues with this statement: "Within people, evil designs come out of the heart: theft, murder, adultery, jealousy, greed, maliciousness, deceit, indecency, slander, pride, and folly. All these evil things come from within and make a person unclean."
Responsorial psalm (Psalm 15) (Verses 2–5)

Whoever walks blamelessly and does justice; who thinks the truth in his heart and slanders not with his tongue.
Who harms not his fellow man, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor; by whom the reprobate is despised, while he honors those who fear the LORD.
Who lends not his money at usury and accepts no bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things shall never be disturbed.

Who do not harm to their neighbors and cast no discredit on their companions, who look down on evildoers but highly esteem God's servant; who at all cost stand by a pledged word.
Who do not lend money at interest and refuse a bribe against the innocent. Do this, and you will soon be shaken.

Moisés le dijo a la gente: “Y ahora, Israel, escucha las normas y los mandamientos que yo te enseño, para que los pongas en práctica. Así vivirás, y entrarás al país que te da el Señor, Dios de tus padres, y tomarás posesión de él. No añadirás nada a lo que yo te mando, y no le quitarás nada, sino que guardarás los mandamientos del Señor, tu Dios, tal como yo se lo ordeno. Si las guardan y las practican, pasarán por sabios e inteligentes a los ojos de los pueblos que tengan conocimiento de todas estas leyes; y dirán: ¡Qué pueblo tan grande! Sólo él tiene sabiduría e inteligencia. En verdad, ¿qué nación hay tan grande, cuyos dioses se acerquen a ella como lo hace para nosotros, siempre que lo invocamos, Señor, nuestro Dios?”
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 15) (Versículos 2–5)
La respuesta es: El que hace justicia vivirá en la presencia del Señor.
• El que procede rectamente y practica la justicia; el que dice la verdad de corazón y no calumnia con su lengua.
• El que no hace mal a su prójimo ni agravia a su vecino, el que no estima a quien Dios reprueba y honra a los que temen al Señor. El que no se retracta de lo que juró.
• Aunque salga perjudicado, el que no presta su dinero a usura ni acepta soborno contra el inocente. El que procede así, nunca vacilará.
Segunda lectura (Santiago 1: 16–18, 21B–22 y 27)

Hermanos muy queridos, no se equivoquen: son las cosas buenas y los dones perfectos los que proceden de lo alto y descienden del Padre que es luz; allí no retornan las noches ni pasan las sombras. Muy libremente nos dio vida y nos hizo hijos suyos mediante la palabra de la verdad, para que fuéramos la flor de su creación. Reciban con sencillez la palabra sembrada en ustedes, que tiene poder para salvarlos. Pongan por obra lo que dice la Palabra y no se conformen con oírla, pues se engañarían a sí mismos. La religión verdadera y perfecta ante Dios, nuestro Padre, consiste en esto: ayudar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus necesidades y no contaminarse con la corrupción de este mundo.
Evangelio (Marcos 7: 1–8, 14–15, y 21–23)

Los fariseos con algunos escribas llegados de Jerusalén se acercaron a Jesús, y vieron que algunos de sus discípulos comían con las manos impuras, es decir, sin lavar. Los fariseos, en efecto, y los judíos en general, no comen sin lavarse antes cuidadosamente las manos, siguiendo la tradición de sus antepasados; y al volver del mercado, no comen sin hacer primero las abluciones. Además, hay muchas otras prácticas, a las que están aferrados por tradición, como el lavado de los vasos, de las jarras y de la vajilla de bronce. Entonces los fariseos y los escribas preguntaron a Jesús: “¿Por qué tus discípulos no proceden de acuerdo con la tradición de nuestros antepasados, sino que comen con las manos impuras?” Él les respondió: “¡Hipócritas! Bien profetizó de ustedes Isaías, en el pasaje de la Escritura que dice: Este pueblo me honra con los labios, pero su corazón está lejos de mí. En vano me rinde culto: las doctrinas que enseñan no son sino preceptos humanos. Ustedes dejan de lado el mandamiento de Dios, por seguir la tradición de los hombres.” Y Jesús, llamando otra vez a la gente, les dijo: “Escúchenme todos y entiéndanlo bien. Ninguna cosa externa que entra en el hombre puede mancharlo; lo que lo hace impuro es aquello que sale del hombre. Hindi siya nagbabago, o nagdudulot ng bahagya mang dilim dahil sa pagbabago. Niloob niyang tayo'y maging anak niya sa pamamagitan ng salita ng katotohanan, upang tayo'y maging pangunahin higit kaysa lahat ng kanyang mga nilalang. Mapagpakumbabang tanggapin ninyo ang salitang itinanim sa inyong puso. Ito ay may kakayahang magligtas sa inyo. Mamuhay kayo ayon sa salita ng Diyos. Kung ito'y pinapakinggan lamang ninyo ngunit hindi isinasagawa, dinadaya ninyo ang inyong sarili. Ang relihiyon na dalisay at walang dungis sa harap ng ating Diyos at Ama ay ito: pagtulong sa mga ulila at sa mga biyuda sa kanilang kahirapan, at pag-iingat sa sarili upang huwag mahawa sa kasamaan ng mundong ito.

Janganlah kamu menambahi apa yang kuperintahkan kepadamu dan janganlah kamu menguranginya, dengan demikian kamu berpegang pada perintah TUHAN, Allahmu, yang kusampaikan kepadamu. Lakukanlah itu dengan setia, sebab itulah yang akan menjadi kebijaksanaanmu dan akal budimu di mata bangsa-bangsa yang pada waktu mendengar segala ketetapan ini akan berkata: Memang bangsa yang besar ini adalah umat yang bijaksana dan berakal budi. Sebab bangsa besar manakah yang mempunyai Allah yang demikian dekat kepadanya seperti TUHAN, Allah kita, setiap kali kita memanggil kepada-Nya? Dan bangsa besar manakah yang mempunyai ketetapan dan peraturan demikian adil seperti seluruh hukum ini, yang kubentangkan kepadamu pada hari ini?

Setiap pemberian yang baik dan setiap anugerah yang sempurna, datangnya dari atas, diturunkan dari Bapa segala terang; pada-Nya tidak ada perubahan atau bayangan karena pertukaran. Atas kehendak-Nya sendiri Ia telah menjadikan kita oleh firman kebenaran, supaya kita pada tingkat yang tertentu menjadi anak sulung di antara semua ciptaan-Nya. Sebab itu buanglah segala sesuatu yang kotor dan kejahatan yang begitu banyak itu dan terimalah dengan lemah lembut firman yang tertanam di dalam hatimu, yang berkuasa menyelamatkan jiwamu. Tetapi hendaklah kamu menjadi pelaku firman dan bukan hanya pendengar saja; sebab jika tidak demikian kamu menipu diri sendiri. Ibadah yang murni dan yang tak bercacat di hadapan Allah, Bapa kita, ialah mengunjungi yatim piatu dan janda-janda dalam kesusahan mereka, dan menjaga supaya dirinya sendiri tidak dicemarkan oleh dunia.

Pada suatu kali serombongan orang Farisi dan beberapa ahli Taurat dari Yerusalem datang menemui Yesus. Mereka melihat, bahwa beberapa orang murid-Nya makan dengan tangan najis, yaitu dengan tangan yang tidak dibasuh. Sebab orang-orang Farisi seperti orang-orang Yahudi lainnya tidak makan kalau tidak melakukan pembasuhan tangan lebih dulu, karena mereka berpegang pada adat istiadat nenek moyang mereka; dan kalau pulang dari pasar mereka juga tidak makan kalau tidak lebih dahulu membersihkan dirinya. Banyak warisan lain lagi yang mereka pegang, umpamanya hal mencuci cawan, kendi dan perkakas-perkakas tembaga. Karena itu orang-orang Farisi dan ahli-ahli Taurat itu bertanya kepada-Nya: "Mengapa murid-murid-Mu tidak hidup menurut adat istiadat nenek moyang kita, tetapi makan dengan tangan najis?" Jawab-Nya kepada mereka: "Benarlah nubuat Yesaya tentang kamu, hai orang-orang munafik! Sebab ada tertulis: Bangsa ini memuliakan Aku dengan bibirnya, padahal hatinya jauh dari pada-Ku. Percuma mereka beribadah kepada-Ku, sedangkan ajaran yang mereka ajarkan ialah perintah manusia. Perintah Allah kamu abaikan untuk berpegang pada adat istiadat manusia." Lalu Yesus memanggil lagi orang banyak dan berkata kepada mereka: "Kamu semua, dengarlah kepada-Ku dan camkanlah. Apa pun dari luar, yang masuk ke dalam seseorang, tidak dapat menajiskannya, tetapi apa yang keluar dari seseorang, itulah yang menajiskannya. Sebab dari dalam, dari hati orang, timbul segala pikiran jahat, percabulan, pencurian, pembunuhan, perzinahan, keserakahan, kejahatan, kelicikan, hawa nafsu, iri hati, hujat, kesombongan, kebebalan. Semua hal-hal jahat ini timbul dari dalam dan menajiskan orang."

ところで皆さん、生きて約束の地に入り、自分のものにしようと思うなら、これから教えるおきてと定め（律法）を注意深く聞き、そのとおり守りなさい。ほかのものを加えたり、勝手に削ったりしてはいけない。神の教えなのだから、何も言わず、忠実に従いなさい。これを守れば、知恵のある賢明な国民だと評判になるでしょう。回りの国々がこれを知ったら、『イスラエル人ほど賢明な国民はいない』と驚くに違いありません。呼べば必ずそばにいてくださる、私たちの主のような神を信じている国はほかにはありません。どんなに偉大な国でも、今日私が教えるような正しいおきてと定めをもつ国はありません。
第二読み物（ヤコブ第1章：第16詩–第18詩と第21詩–第22詩と第27詩）
この読み物はヤコブの手紙です。
ですから、だまされてはいけません。すべての良いもの、完全なものは、光を造られた神から来るのです。神にはわずかの変化もくもりもなく、いつまでも輝いています。神は御心のままに、真理のことばによって、私たちに新しいいのちを与えてくださいました。こうして私たちは、神の新しい家族の最初の子どもとされたのです。ですから、自分の生活を総点検して、どんな悪をもすっかり取り除き、神のことばをすなおに受け入れなさい。神のことばには、私たちの心をとらえ、たましいを救う力があるからです。また聞くだけでなく、それを実行することも忘れてはなりません。みことばを聞くだけは聞いて、自分を偽った行動をとることがありませんように。父なる神の目から見て、純粋で汚れのない信仰とは、みなしごや未亡人が困っていれば世話をし、この世から自分をきよく守ることです。

ある日、ユダヤ人の宗教的指導者たちが数人、イエスを調べてやろうと、わざわざエルサレムから出向いて来ました。そして、イエスの弟子の中に、ユダヤの食前のしきたりを守らない者がいるのを見つけました。そのしきたりというのは、ユダヤ人の中でも、特にパリサイ人たちがやかましく守っているものでした。古くからの言い伝えで、食事の前には必ず、腕からひじにかけて水を注ぐ決まりだったのです。また市場から帰って来た時には、食べ物に触れる前に必ず体に水を注ぎかける決まりもありました。そのほかにも、水差し、なべ、皿を洗うことなど、何世紀ものあいだ守り続けてきた、こまごまとしたおきてやしきたりがあったのです。そこで、彼らはイエスに、「どうしてあなたの弟子は、昔からの言い伝えを守らないのか。手も洗わないで食事をするとはけしからん」と言って、詰め寄りました。イエスはお答えになりました。「そう言うあなたがたこそ偽善者です。預言者イザヤが言ったのは、あなたがたのことだったのです。『彼らは口先ではわたしを敬うが、心はわたしから遠く離れている。彼らがわたしを拝んでも、むだなことだ。神の命令の代わりに、人間の規則を教えているのだから。』なんと的を射たことばでしょう。あなたがたは神のほんとうの戒めをないがしろにして、自分たちの言い伝えとすり替えているのです。イエスは、もう一度群衆を呼び寄せて、「さあ、よく聞いて、その意味を考えなさい。人は決して外から入る食べ物によって汚されるのではありません。肉欲、盗み、殺人、姦淫、貪欲、邪悪、あざむき、好色、ねたみ、悪口、高慢、あらゆる愚かさ、それらのものはみな、人の心の中からあふれ出ます。この内側から出て来るものが人を汚し、神にふさわしくない者とするのです。」

わたしの愛する兄弟たち、思い違いをしてはいけません。良い贈り物、完全な賜物はみな、上から、光の源である御父から来るのです。御父には、移り変わりも、天体の動きにつれて生ずる陰もありません。御父は、御心のままに、真理の言葉によってわたしたちを生んでくださいました。それは、わたしたちを、いわば造られたものの初穂となさるためです。だから、あらゆる汚れやあふれるほどの悪を素直に捨て去り、心に植え付けられた御言葉を受け入れなさい。この御言葉は、あなたがたの魂を救うことができます。御言葉を行う人になりなさい。自分を欺いて、聞くだけで終わる者になってはいけません。みなしごや、やもめが困っているときに世話をし、世の汚れに染まらないように自分を守ること、これこそ父である神の御前に清く汚れのない信心です。

この読み物はマルコによる福音書です。
ファリサイ派の人々と数人の律法学者たちが、エルサレムから来て、イエスのもとに集まった。そして、イエスの弟子たちの中に汚れた手、つまり洗わない手で食事をする者がいるのを見た。――ファリサイ派の人々をはじめユダヤ人は皆、昔の人の言い伝えを固く守って、念入りに手を洗ってからでないと食事をせず、また、市場から帰ったときには、身を清めてからでないと食事をしない。そのほか、杯、鉢、銅の器や寝台を洗うことなど、昔から受け継いで固く守っていることがたくさんある。――そこで、ファリサイ派の人々と律法学者たちが尋ねた。「なぜ、あなたの弟子たちは昔の人の言い伝えに従って歩まず、汚れた手で食事をするのですか。」イエスは言われた。「イザヤは、あなたたちのような偽善者のことを見事に預言したものだ。彼はこう書いている。『この民は口先ではわたしを敬うが、その心はわたしから遠く離れている。人間の戒めを教えとしておしえ、むなしくわたしをあがめている。』あなたたちは神の掟を捨てて、人間の言い伝えを固く守っている。」それから、イエスは再び群衆を呼び寄せて言われた。「皆、わたしの言うことを聞いて悟りなさい。外から人の体に入るもので人を汚すことができるものは何もなく、人の中から出て来るものが、人を汚すのである。中から、つまり人間の心から、悪い思いが出て来るからである。みだらな行い、盗み、殺意、姦淫、貪欲、悪意、詐欺、好色、ねたみ、悪口、傲慢、無分別など、これらの悪はみな中から出て来て、人を汚すのである。」

Ora dunque, Israele, ascolta le leggi e le norme che io vi insegno, perché le mettiate in pratica, perché viviate ed entriate in possesso del paese che il Signore, Dio dei vostri padri, sta per darvi. Non aggiungerete nulla a ciò che io vi comando e non ne toglierete nulla; ma osserverete i comandi del Signore Dio vostro che io vi prescrivo. Le osserverete dunque e le metterete in pratica perché quella sarà la vostra saggezza e la vostra intelligenza agli occhi dei popoli, i quali, udendo parlare di tutte queste leggi, diranno: Questa grande nazione è il solo popolo saggio e intelligente. Infatti qual grande nazione ha la divinità così vicina a sé, come il Signore nostro Dio è vicino a noi ogni volta che lo invochiamo? E qual grande nazione ha leggi e norme giuste come è tutta questa legislazione che io oggi vi espongo?
Seconda lettura (Giacomo 1: 16–18, 21–22 e 27)
Una lettura della lettera di San Giacomo.
Non andate fuori strada, fratelli miei carissimi; ogni buon regalo e ogni dono perfetto viene dall'alto e discende dal Padre della luce, nel quale non c'è variazione né ombra di cambiamento. Di sua volontà egli ci ha generati con una parola di verità, perché noi fossimo come una primizia delle sue creature. Perciò, deposta ogni impurità e ogni resto di malizia, accogliete con docilità la parola che è stata seminata in voi e che può salvare le vostre anime. Siate di quelli che mettono in pratica la parola e non soltanto ascoltatori, illudendo voi stessi. Una religione pura e senza macchia davanti a Dio nostro Padre è questa: soccorrere gli orfani e le vedove nelle loro afflizioni e conservarsi puri da questo mondo.
Vangelo (Marco 7: 1–8, 14–15, e 21–23)

Allora si riunirono attorno a lui i farisei e alcuni degli scribi venuti da Gerusalemme. Avendo visto che alcuni dei suoi discepoli prendevano cibo con mani immonde, cioè non lavate — i farisei infatti e tutti i Giudei non mangiano se non si sono lavate le mani fino al gomito, attenendosi alla tradizione degli antichi, e tornando dal mercato non mangiano senza aver fatto le abluzioni, e osservano molte altre cose per tradizione, come lavature di bicchieri, stoviglie e oggetti di rame — quei farisei e scribi lo interrogarono: “Perché i tuoi discepoli non si comportano secondo la tradizione degli antichi, ma prendono cibo con mani immonde?” Ed egli rispose loro: “Bene ha profetato Isaia di voi, ipocriti, come sta scritto: Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra, ma il suo cuore è lontano da me. Invano essi mi rendono culto, insegnando dottrine che sono precetti di uomini. Trascurando il comandamento di Dio, voi osservate la tradizione degli uomini.” Chiamata di nuovo la folla, diceva loro: “Ascoltatemi tutti e intendete bene: non c'è nulla fuori dell'uomo che, entrando in lui, possa contaminarlo; sono invece le cose che escono dall'uomo a contaminarlo. Dal di dentro infatti, cioè dal cuore degli uomini, escono le intenzioni cattive: fornicazioni, furti, omicidi, adultèri, cupidigie, malvagità, inganno, impudicizia, invidia, calunnia, superbia, stoltezza. Tutte queste cose cattive vengono fuori dal di dentro e contaminano l'uomo.”
