First reading (Malachi 3: 1–4)
A reading from the book of the prophet Malachi.
Thus says the Lord God: Lo, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me; and suddenly there will come to the temple the Lord whom you seek, and the messenger of the covenant whom you desire. Yes, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts. But who will endure the day of his coming? And who can stand when he appears? For he is like the refiner’s fire, or like the fuller’s lye. He will sit refining and purifying silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, Refining them like gold or like silver that they may offer due sacrifice to the Lord. Then the sacrifice of Judah and Jerusalem will please the Lord, as in the days of old, as in years gone by.
Second reading (Hebrews 2: 14–18)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Hebrews.
Since the children share in blood and flesh, Jesus likewise shared in them, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the Devil, and free those who through fear of death had been subject to slavery all their life. Surely he did not help angels but rather the descendants of Abraham; therefore, he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every way, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest before God to expiate the sins of the people. Because he himself was tested through what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested.
Gospel (Luke 2: 22–40)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.
When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord, and to offer the sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons, in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord." Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying: “Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.” The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted. Band you yourself a sword will pierce, so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer. And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem. When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.

The envoy of the covenant which you so greatly desire already comes, says the Lord of hosts. Who can bear the day of his coming and remain standing when he appears? For he will be like fire in the foundry and like the lye used for bleaching. He will be as a refiner or a fuller. He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver. So the Lord will have priests who will present the offering as it should be. Then the Lord will accept with pleasure the offering of Judah and Jerusalem, as in former days.
Second reading (Hebrews 2: 14–18)

And because all those children share one same nature of flesh and blood, Jesus likewise had to share this nature. This is why his death destroyed the one holding the power of death, that is the devil, and freed those who remained in bondage all their lifetime because of the fear of death. Jesus came to take by the hand not the angels but the human race. So he had to be like his brothers and sisters in every respect, in order to be the High Priest faithful to God and merciful to them, a priest able to task pardon and atone for their sins. Having been tested through suffering, he is able to help those who are tested.
Gospel (Luke 2: 22–40)

And they offered a sacrifice as ordered in the law of the Lord: a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons. There lived in Jerusalem at this time a very upright and devout man named Simeon; the Holy Spirit was in him. He looked forward to the time when the Lord would comfort Israel, and he had been assured by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before seeing the Messiah of the Lord. So he was led into the Temple by the Holy Spirit at the time the parents brought the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law. Simeon took the child in his arms and blessed God, saying, "Now, O Lord, you can dismiss your servant in peace, for you have fulfilled your word and my eyes have seen your salvation, which you display for all the people to see. Here is the light you will reveal to the nations and the glory of your people Israel." His father and mother wondered at what was said about the child. Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother, "See him: he will be for the rise or fall of the multitudes of Israel. He shall stand as a sign of contradiction, while a sword will pierce your own soul. Then the secret thoughts of many may be brought to light." There was also a prophetess named Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. After leaving her father's home, she had been seven years with her husband, and since then she had been continually about the Temple, serving God as a widow night and day in fasting and prayer. She was now eighty-four. Coming up at that time, she gave praise to God and spoke of the child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem. When the parents had fulfilled all that was required by the law of the Lord, they returned to their town, Nazareth in Galilee. There the child grew in stature and strength and was filled with wisdom: the grace of God was upon him.

Yo envío a mi mensajero, para que prepare el camino delante de mí. Y en seguida entrará en su Templo el Señor que ustedes buscan; y el Ángel de la alianza que ustedes desean ya viene, dice el Señor de los ejércitos. ¿Quién podrá soportar el Día de su venida? ¿Quién permanecerá de pie cuando aparezca? Porque él es como el fuego del fundidor y como la lejía de los lavanderos. Él se sentará para fundir y purificar: purificará a los hijos de Leví y los depurará como al oro y la plata; y ellos serán para el Señor los que presentan la ofrenda conforme a la justicia. La ofrenda de Judá y de Jerusalén será agradable al Señor, como en los tiempos pasados, como en los primeros años.

Segunda lectura (Hebreos 2: 14–18)
Una lectura de la carta de San Pablo a los hebreos.
Puesto que esos hijos son de carne y sangre, Jesús también compartió esta misma condición y, al morir, le quitó su poder al que reinaba por medio de la muerte, es decir, al diablo. De este modo liberó a los hombres que, por miedo a la muerte, se pasan la vida como esclavos. Jesús no vino para hacerse cargo de los ángeles, sino de la raza de Abrahán. Por eso tuvo que hacerse semejante en todo a sus hermanos, y llegó a ser el sumo sacerdote lleno de comprensión, pero también fiel en el servicio de Dios, que les consigue el perdón. Él mismo ha sido probado por medio del sufrimiento, por eso es capaz de ayudar a aquellos que son puestos a prueba.
Evangelio (Lucas 2: 22–40)

Cuando llegó el día fijado por la Ley de Moisés para la purificación, llevaron al niño a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor, como está escrito en la Ley: ‘Todo varón primogénito será consagrado al Señor.’ También debían ofrecer un sacrificio un par de tórtolas o de pichones de paloma, como ordena la Ley del Señor. Vivía entonces en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón, que era justo y piadoso, y esperaba el consuelo de Israel. El Espíritu Santo estaba en él y le había revelado que no moriría antes de ver al Mesías del Señor. Conducido por el mismo Espíritu, fue al Templo, y cuando los padres de Jesús llevaron al niño para cumplir con él las prescripciones de la Ley, Simeón lo tomó en sus brazos y alabó a Dios, diciendo: “Ahora, Señor, puedes dejar que tu servidor muera en paz, como lo has prometido, mis ojos han visto la salvación que preparaste delante de todos los pueblos: luz para iluminar a las naciones paganas y gloria de tu pueblo Israel.” Su padre y su madre estaban admirados por lo que oían decir de él. Simeón, después de bendecirlos, dijo a María, la madre: “Este niño será causa de caída y de elevación para muchos en Israel; será signo de contradicción, y a ti misma una espada te atravesará el corazón. Así se manifestarán claramente los pensamientos íntimos de muchos.” Había también allí una profetisa llamada Ana, hija de Fanuel, de la familia de Aser, mujer ya entrada en años, que, casa en su juventud, había vivido siete años con su marido. Desde entonces había permanecido viuda, y tenía ochenta y cuatro años. No se apartaba del Templo, sirviendo a Dios noche y día con ayunos y oraciones. Se presentó en ese mismo momento y se puso a dar gracias a Dios. Y hablaba acerca del niño a todos los que esperaban la redención de Jerusalén. Después de cumplir todo lo que ordenaba la Ley del Señor, volvieron a su ciudad de Nazaret, en Galilea. El niño iba creciendo y se fortalecía, lleno de sabiduría, y la gracia de Dios estaba con él.

Sabi ng Panginoon na Makapangyarihan sa lahat, “Ipadadala ko ang aking sugo upang ihanda ang daraanan ko. At ang Panginoon na inyong hinahanap ay biglang darating sa kanyang templo. Darating ang pinakahihintay ninyong sugo at ipahahayag ang aking tipan.” Ngunit sino ang makakatagal pagdating ng araw na iyon? Sino ang makakaharap kapag napakita na siya? Para siyang apoy na nagpapadalisay sa bakal at parang sabon na may matapang na sangkap. Darating siya at mauupong tulad ng isang tagapagdalisay ng pilak. Dadalisayin niya ang mga anak na lalaki ni Levi katulad ng ginto at pilak at sa pamamagitan nito'y magiging karapat-dapat ang kanilang handog sa Panginoon. Dahil dito, ang mga handog na dadalhin ng mga taga-Juda at Jerusalem ay magiging kalugud-lugod sa Panginoon, tulad ng dati.

Malaikat Perjanjian yang kamu kehendaki itu, sesungguhnya, Ia datang, firman TUHAN semesta alam. Siapakah yang dapat tahan akan hari kedatangan-Nya? Dan siapakah yang dapat tetap berdiri, apabila Ia menampakkan diri? Sebab Ia seperti api tukang pemurni logam dan seperti sabun tukang penatu. Ia akan duduk seperti orang yang memurnikan dan mentahirkan perak; dan Ia mentahirkan orang Lewi, menyucikan mereka seperti emas dan seperti perak, supaya mereka menjadi orang-orang yang mempersembahkan korban yang benar kepada TUHAN. Maka persembahan Yehuda dan Yerusalem akan menyenangkan hati TUHAN seperti pada hari-hari dahulu kala dan seperti tahun-tahun yang sudah-sudah.

Bacaan kedua (Ibrani 2: 14–18)
Pembacaan dari surat Paulus kepada Ibrani.
Karena anak-anak itu adalah anak-anak dari darah dan daging, maka Ia juga menjadi sama dengan mereka dan mendapat bagian dalam keadaan mereka, supaya oleh kematian-Nya Ia memusnahkan dia, yaitu Iblis, yang berkuasa atas maut; dan supaya dengan jalan demikian Ia membebaskan mereka yang seumur hidupnya berada dalam perhambaan oleh karena takutnya kepada maut. Sebab sesungguhnya, bukan malaikat-malaikat yang Ia kasihani, tetapi keturunan Abraham yang Ia kasihani. Itulah sebabnya, maka dalam segala hal Ia harus disamakan dengan saudara-saudara-Nya, supaya Ia menjadi Imam Besar yang menaruh belas kasihan dan yang setia kepada Allah untuk mendamaikan dosa seluruh bangsa. Sebab oleh karena Ia sendiri telah menderita karena pencobaan, maka Ia dapat menolong mereka yang dicobai.

Dan ketika genap waktu pentahiran, menurut hukum Taurat Musa, mereka membawa Dia ke Yerusalem untuk menyerahkan-Nya kepada Tuhan, seperti ada tertulis dalam hukum Tuhan: "Semua anak laki-laki sulung harus dikuduskan bagi Allah", dan untuk mempersembahkan korban menurut apa yang difirmankan dalam hukum Tuhan, yaitu sepasang burung tekukur atau dua ekor anak burung merpati. Adalah di Yerusalem seorang bernama Simeon. Ia seorang yang benar dan saleh yang menantikan penghiburan bagi Israel. Roh Kudus ada di atasnya, dan kepadanya telah dinyatakan oleh Roh Kudus, bahwa ia tidak akan mati sebelum ia melihat Mesias, yaitu Dia yang diurapi Tuhan. Ia datang ke Bait Allah oleh Roh Kudus. Ketika Yesus, Anak itu, dibawa masuk oleh orang tua-Nya untuk melakukan kepada-Nya apa yang ditentukan hukum Taurat, ia menyambut Anak itu dan menatang-Nya sambil memuji Allah, katanya: "Sekarang, Tuhan, biarkanlah hamba-Mu ini pergi dalam damai sejahtera, sesuai dengan firman-Mu, sebab mataku telah melihat keselamatan yang dari pada-Mu, yang telah Engkau sediakan di hadapan segala bangsa, yaitu terang yang menjadi penyataan bagi bangsa-bangsa lain dan menjadi kemuliaan bagi umat-Mu, Israel." Dan bapa serta ibu-Nya amat heran akan segala apa yang dikatakan tentang Dia. Lalu Simeon memberkati mereka dan berkata kepada Maria, ibu Anak itu: "Sesungguhnya Anak ini ditentukan untuk menjatuhkan atau membangkitkan banyak orang di Israel dan untuk menjadi suatu tanda yang menimbulkan perbantahan — dan suatu pedang akan menembus jiwamu sendiri —, supaya menjadi nyata pikiran hati banyak orang." Lagipula di situ ada Hana, seorang nabi perempuan, anak Fanuel dari suku Asyer. Ia sudah sangat lanjut umurnya. Sesudah kawin ia hidup tujuh tahun lamanya bersama suaminya, dan sekarang ia janda dan berumur delapan puluh empat tahun. Ia tidak pernah meninggalkan Bait Allah dan siang malam beribadah dengan berpuasa dan berdoa. Dan pada ketika itu juga datanglah ia ke situ dan mengucap syukur kepada Allah dan berbicara tentang Anak itu kepada semua orang yang menantikan kelepasan untuk Yerusalem. Dan setelah selesai semua yang harus dilakukan menurut hukum Tuhan, kembalilah mereka ke kota kediamannya, yaitu kota Nazaret di Galilea. Anak itu bertambah besar dan menjadi kuat, penuh hikmat, dan kasih karunia Allah ada pada-Nya.

神の子どもである私たちは、血も肉もある人間です。そこでイエスも、血肉を持った人間の姿でお生まれになりました。それは人間として死ぬことにより、死の権力をふるう悪魔の力を打ち砕くためです。これだけが、一生涯死の恐怖の奴隷となっている人間を救い出す方法だったのです。私たちは、イエスが天使としてではなく、一人の人間、一人のユダヤ人として来られたことを知っています。イエスは、あらゆる点で、兄弟である私たちと同じになることが必要だったのです。そうして初めて、イエスは、私たちにとってはあわれみ深く、神にとっては忠実な大祭司として、私たちの罪を取り除くことができたのです。自ら試練と非常な苦しみを体験された主イエスだからこそ、試練にあえいでいる私たちを助けることがおできになるのです。
福音書（ルカ第2章：第22詩–第40詩）
この読み物はルカの福音書です。
モーセの律法によるきよめ（母親のきよめと幼子の献児）の時が来ると、両親はイエスを主にささげるため、エルサレムに連れて来ました。モーセの律法には、「女から最初に生まれる子が男であれば、その子を主にささげなければならない」とあったのです。両親は、決まりどおり、「山鳩一つがい、または家鳩のひな二羽」をきよめの供え物としてささげました。その日、神殿には、エルサレムに住むシメオンという人がいました。信仰のあつい正しい人で、聖霊に満たされ、イスラエルにメシヤ（救い主）の来るのを待ち望んでいました。神が遣わされるその方を見るまでは絶対に死なない、と聖霊のお告げを受けていたのです。その日彼は、聖霊に導かれて神殿に来て、マリヤとヨセフがイエスを主にささげるためにやって来るのに出会ったのです。シメオンはイエスを抱き上げ、神を賛美しました。「主よ。今こそ私は安心して死ねます。お約束どおり、この目でメシヤを見、あなたが遣わされた救い主にお会いしたのですから。この方はすべての国を照らす光、あなたの民イスラエルの光栄です。」ヨセフとマリヤはそこに立ったまま、驚いてシメオンの言うことを聞いていました。シメオンは両親を祝福してから、マリヤに言いました。「剣があなたの胸を刺し通すでしょう。イスラエルの多くの人がこの子を信じようとしないで、滅びるからです。しかし、この子によって大きな喜びを受ける人も多くいます。こうして、多くの人の思いが現されるのです。」その日、女預言者アンナも神殿にいました。彼女はアセル族のパヌエルの娘で、非常に年をとっていました。七年の結婚生活の後、未亡人で通し、もう八十四歳にもなっていたのです。彼女は神殿を一歩も離れず、祈りと断食に明け暮れ、神に仕える毎日を送っていました。この時、そこにいたアンナも神に感謝をささげ、救い主の来るのを待ちわびていたエルサレムのすべての人に、メシヤがおいでになったことを語りました。モーセの律法どおりにすべてのことをすませると、ヨセフとマリヤはガリラヤのナザレに帰りました。イエスは成長してたくましくなり、たいへん賢い子だと評判になるほどでした。神も絶えずイエスを祝福してくださいました。

第二読み物（ヘブライ人第2章：第14詩–第18詩）
この読み物はヘブライ人への手紙です。
ところで、子らは血と肉を備えているので、イエスもまた同様に、これらのものを備えられました。それは、死をつかさどる者、つまり悪魔を御自分の死によって滅ぼし、死の恐怖のために一生涯、奴隷の状態にあった者たちを解放なさるためでした。確かに、イエスは天使たちを助けず、アブラハムの子孫を助けられるのです。それで、イエスは、神の御前において憐れみ深い、忠実な大祭司となって、民の罪を償うために、すべての点で兄弟たちと同じようにならねばならなかったのです。事実、御自身、試練を受けて苦しまれたからこそ、試練を受けている人たちを助けることがおできになるのです。

Ecco, io manderò un mio messaggero a preparare la via davanti a me e subito entrerà nel suo tempio il Signore, che voi cercate; l'angelo dell'alleanza, che voi sospirate, ecco viene, dice il Signore degli eserciti. Chi sopporterà il giorno della sua venuta? Chi resisterà al suo apparire? Egli è come il fuoco del fonditore e come la lisciva dei lavandai. Siederà per fondere e purificare; purificherà i figli di Levi, li affinerà come oro e argento, perché possano offrire al Signore un'oblazione secondo giustizia. Allora l'offerta di Giuda e di Gerusalemme sarà gradita al Signore come nei giorni antichi, come negli anni lontani.
Salmi (Salmi 24: 7–10)
La risposta è: Chi è questo re della gloria? Il Signore degli eserciti è il re della gloria.

Seconda lettura (Ebrei 2: 14–18)
Una lettura della lettera di San Paolo agli Ebrei.
Poiché dunque i figli hanno in comune il sangue e la carne, anch'egli ne è divenuto partecipe, per ridurre all'impotenza mediante la morte colui che della morte ha il potere, cioè il diavolo, e liberare così quelli che per timore della morte erano soggetti a schiavitù per tutta la vita. Egli infatti non si prende cura degli angeli, ma della stirpe di Abramo si prende cura. Perciò doveva rendersi in tutto simile ai fratelli, per diventare un sommo sacerdote misericordioso e fedele nelle cose che riguardano Dio, allo scopo di espiare i peccati del popolo. Infatti proprio per essere stato messo alla prova ed avere sofferto personalmente, è in grado di venire in aiuto a quelli che subiscono la prova.
Vangelo (Luca 2: 22–40)
Una lettura del Santo Vangelo secondo San Luca.
Quando venne il tempo della loro purificazione secondo la Legge di Mosè, portarono il bambino a Gerusalemme per offrirlo al Signore, come è scritto nella Legge del Signore: ogni maschio primogenito sarà sacro al Signore; e per offrire in sacrificio una coppia di tortore o di giovani colombi, come prescrive la Legge del Signore. Ora a Gerusalemme c'era un uomo di nome Simeone, uomo giusto e timorato di Dio, che aspettava il conforto d'Israele; lo Spirito Santo che era sopra di lui, gli aveva preannunziato che non avrebbe visto la morte senza prima aver veduto il Messia del Signore. Mosso dunque dallo Spirito, si recò al tempio; e mentre i genitori vi portavano il bambino Gesù per adempiere la Legge, lo prese tra le braccia e benedisse Dio: “Ora lascia, o Signore, che il tuo servo vada in pace secondo la tua parola; perché i miei occhi han visto la tua salvezza, preparata da te davanti a tutti i popoli, luce per illuminare le genti e gloria del tuo popolo Israele.” Il padre e la madre di Gesù si stupivano delle cose che si dicevano di lui. Simeone li benedisse e parlò a Maria, sua madre: “Egli è qui per la rovina e la risurrezione di molti in Israele, segno di contraddizione perché siano svelati i pensieri di molti cuori. E anche a te una spada trafiggerà l'anima.” C'era anche una profetessa, Anna, figlia di Fanuèle, della tribù di Aser. Era molto avanzata in età, aveva vissuto col marito sette anni dal tempo in cui era ragazza, era poi rimasta vedova e ora aveva ottantaquattro anni. Non si allontanava mai dal tempio, servendo Dio notte e giorno con digiuni e preghiere. Sopraggiunta in quel momento, si mise anche lei a lodare Dio e parlava del bambino a quanti aspettavano la redenzione di Gerusalemme. Quando ebbero tutto compiuto secondo la legge del Signore, fecero ritorno in Galilea, alla loro città di Nazaret. Il bambino cresceva e si fortificava, pieno di sapienza, e la grazia di Dio era sopra di lui.
