First Reading (Isaiah 35: 4-7a)
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
So to those who are afraid: "Have courage, do not fear. See, your God comes, demanding justice. He is the God who rewards, the God who comes to save you." Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unsealed. Then will the lame leap as a hart and the tongue of the dumb sing and shout. For water will break out in the wilderness and streams gush forth from the desert. The thirsty ground will become a pool, the arid land springs of water.
Second Reading (James 2: 1-5)
A reading from the letter of Saint James.
My brothers and sisters, if you truly believe in our glorified Lord, Jesus Christ, you will not discriminate between persons. Suppose a person enters the synagogue where you are assembled, dressed magnificently and wearing a gold ring; at the same time, a poor person enters dressed in rags. If you focus your attention on the well-dressed and state, "Come and sit in the best seat," while to the poor one you state, "Stay standing or else sit down at my feet," have you not, in fact, made a distinction between the two? Have you not judged, using a double standard? Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters, did God not choose the poor of this world to receive the riches of faith and to inherit the kingdom which he has promise to those who love him?
Gospel (Mark 7: 31-37)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark.
Again Jesus set out; from the country of Tyre he passed through Sidon and skirting the sea of Galilee he came to the territory of Decapolis. There a deaf man who also had difficulty in speaking was brought to him. They asked Jesus to lay his hand upon him. Jesus took him apart from the crowd, put his fingers into the man's ears and touched his tongue with spittle. Then, looking up to heaven, he groaned and stated to him, "Ephphetha." that is, "Be opened." And his ears were opened, his tongue was loosened, and he began to speak clearly. Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone, but the more he insisted on this, the more they proclaimed it. The people were completely astonished and stated, "He has done all things well; he makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak."

The Lord sustains the widow and the orphan, but brings to ruin the way of the wicked. The Lord shall reign forever, your God, O Zion, from generation to generation. Alleluia!

Díganles a los que están asustados: “Calma, no tengan miedo, porque ya viene su Dios a vengarse, a darles a ellos su merecido; El mismo viene a salvarlos a ustedes.” Entonces los ojos de los ciegos se despegarán, y los oídos de los sordos se abrirán, los cojos saltarán como cabritos y la lengua de los mudos gritará de alegría. Porque en el desierto brotarán chorros de agua, que correrán como ríos por la superficie. La tierra ardiente se convertirá en una laguna, y el suelo sediento se llenará de vertientes.
Segunda Lectura (Santiago 2: 1-5)

Hermanos, si realmente creen en Jesús, nuestro Señor, el Cristo glorioso, no hagan diferencias entre personas. Supongamos que entra en su asamblea un hombre muy bien vestido y con un anillo de oro y entra también un pobre con ropas sucias, y ustedes se deshacen en atenciones con el hombre bien vestido y le dicen: “Tome este asiento, que es muy bueno,” mientras que al pobre le dicen: “Quédate de pie,” o bien: “Siéntate en el suelo a mis pies.” Díganme, ¿no sería hacer diferencias y discriminar con criterios pésimos? Miren, hermanos, ¿acaso no ha escogido Dios a los pobres de este mundo para hacerlos ricos en la fe? ¿No les dará el reino que prometió a quienes lo aman?
Evangelio (Marcos 7: 31-37)
Una lectura del Evangelio Santo según San Marcos.
Cuando Jesús volvía de la región de Tiro, pasó por Sidón y fue hacia el mar de Galilea, atravesando el territorio de la Decápolis. Entonces le presentaron a un sordomudo y le pidieron que le impusiera las manos. Jesús lo separó de la multitud y, llevándolo aparte, le puso los dedos en las orejas y con su saliva le tocó la lengua. Después, levantando los ojos al cielo, suspiró y dijo: “Efatá,” que significa: “Ábrete.” Y enseguida se abrieron sus oídos, se le soltó la lengua y comenzó a hablar normalmente. Jesús les mandó insistentemente que no dijeran nada a nadie, pero cuanto más insistía, ellos más lo proclamaban y, en el colmo de la admiración, decían: “Todo lo ha hecho bien: hace oír a los sordos y hablar a los mudos.”

• Feliz el que se apoya en el Dios de Jacob y pone su esperanza en el Señor, su Dios: hace justicia a los oprimidos y da pan a los hambrientos.

ReplyDeletePriest: People ask Jesus to lay his hands on the deaf-mute. Our prayer today is a plea to Christ to lay his hands on those who suffer today. Let us say to him: Lord, lay your hands on them.
ReplyDelete— Deaf-mutes are those who live in countries where there are misery, injustice and hunger. We pray to you, Lord. Lord, lay your hands on them.
— Deaf-mutes are around us among us the poor, those to whom no one listens, and those who dare not speak. We pray to you, Lord. Lord, lay your hands on them.
— Deaf-mutes are those who are closed to the faith, but who do not listen to the cries of the needy. We pray to you, Lord. Lord, lay your hands on them.

For in you we live and move and have our being, and while in this body we not only experience the daily effects of your care, but even now possess the pledge of life eternal. For having received the first fruits of the Spirit, through whom you raised up Jesus from the dead, we hope for an everlasting share in the Paschal Mystery.
