2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Date: January 19, 2014

First Reading (Isaiah 49: 3 and 5–6)
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
The Lord stated to me, "You are Israel, my servant, through you I will be known." And now the Lord has spoken, he who formed me in the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him, to gather Israel to him. He stated: "It is not enough that you be my servant, to restore the tribes of Jacob, to bring back the remnant of Israel. I will make you the light of the nations, that my salvation will reach to the ends of the earth."

Second Reading (1 Corinthians 1: 1–3)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.

From Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and from Sosthenes, our brother, to God's Church which is in Corinth; to you whom God has sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with those who everywhere call upon your name of our Lord Christ Jesus, their Lord and ours. Receive grace and peace from God our Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Gospel (John 1: 29–34)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.

The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and stated, "There is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. It is he of whom I stated: A man comes after me who is already ahead of me, for he was before me. I myself did not know him, but I came baptizing to prepare for him, so that he might be revealed in Israel." And John also gave this testimony, "I saw the Spirit coming down on him like a dove from heaven and resting on him. I myself did not know him but God who sent me to baptize told me: 'You will see the Spirit coming down and resting on the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' Yes, I have seen! and I declare that this is the Chosen One of God.

  1. Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 40) (Verses 2, 4a, and 7–10)
The response is: Here I am, Lord; I have come to do your will.

With resolve I waited for the Lord; he listened and heard me beg. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.

Sacrifice or oblation you did not desire; this you had me understand. Burnt offering and sin offering you do not require. Then I stated, "Here I come!"

As the scroll says of me, "To do your will is my delight, O God, for your law is within my heart."

In the great assembly I have proclaimed your saving help. My lips, O Lord, I did not seal — you know that very well.

  2. Wow, I remember three years ago the time when Sean was suffering with a headache. Glad to know that Sean is doing well and now is undergoing the final semester as a senior in high school.

    1. Glad that Sean is finally approaching the end of his high school career. Now that he is approaching the end of secondary school, he has many options of where to go for college.

      Delete
    2. Let us pray that Sean may finish school with a highlight and that the University of Asia and the Pacific recognizes his hard work and achievements throughout the years. Hopefully, although he has not been completing too much on leadership and service, he should be able to advertise his beliefs and personality to contribute positively to the university.

      Delete
    3. Glad to now that Sean is well. Excellent! At least you have passed the SAT with an adequate score. And other news, Plants vs Zombies 2 Piñata Party should be available for play by Zack Scott as he plays games and publishes videos to earn passive income. Quite interesting to know!

    4. Hey you know what? For a moment I thought he was a single man living with his parents and his sister Ashley! But in fact, Zack is married to Ashley and his parents do not live with him! Is that strange? Because when I look at his face, he looks like a 28-year-old person who goes to college or university! But what he says is that he already has TWO jobs and is married! Amazing!

      Delete
    5. Zack Scott is married. If you had watched his Minecraft series, then you would know that he is married to Ashley.

      Delete
    6. But I have to say, very expected when he says that Ashley is his wife during the Plants vs Zombies 2 episode, right?

      Delete
    7. Zack Scott is funny when he presents his videos. One of his memorable quotes is, "I don't know what I'm doing wrong! Get out of my town!"

      Delete
    8. Ah, and that was when Zack tossed away the zombies in the Dead Man's Booty, eh?

      Delete
    9. Right! And why am I speaking in English? Let us speak in Spanish!

      Delete

      Delete
    19. ¡Hola Fiur! Ya he visto el video. Me pregunto si Zack Scott intentaría viajar a través el páramo del gran mal otra vez.

      Delete
    20. ¡Caracoles! ¿Qué pasó con Zack Scott? ¿Cuál fue su desempeño?

      Delete
    21. ¡Hola chicos!

      Delete
    27. Efectivamente.

  5. Zack, you should pick plant food card if you are in challenges like big bad butte because putting plant food on your twins will give you more sun than choosing bonus sun which will give you less sun

    ReplyDelete
  6. Also if you need to use winter melon to slow enemies plus heavy damage, you could just you snow pea plus the regular melon pult so you can save up some sun

    Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

  20. Priest: Jesus came among us as a lamb, vulnerable and defenseless. Let us pray to him for all that is little and weak, and let us say: Lamb of God, hear our prayer.
    — For the Church, that her pastors may be always merciful to those who err and defend the rights of the poor, let us pray to the Lord. Lamb of God, hear our prayer.
    — For the leaders of nations, that they may solve their conflicts with weapons of peace and love. Let us pray to the Lord. Lamb of God, hear our prayer.
    — For those who are hungry, that they may be given food and dignity; for those who feel satisfied, that they may learn to hunger for God and for all that is good. Let us pray to the Lord. Lamb of God, hear our prayer.
    — For those who are afraid in life, that they may learn to trust in God and people; for those who are overconfident help them to see, that they must place their confidence in God not in themselves. Let us pray to the Lord. Lamb of God, hear our prayer.
    — For our Christian communities, that the Holy Spirit may inspire them with the fire of his love to be one heart and one mind. Let us pray to the Lord. Lamb of God, hear our prayer.

  21. Grant us, O Lord, we pray, that we may participate worthily in these mysteries, for whenever the memorial of this sacrifice is celebrated the work of our redemption is accomplished. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  22. It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God. For you so loved the world that in your mercy you sent us the Redeemer, to live like us in all things but sin, so that you might love in us what you loved in your Son, by whose obedience we have been restored to those gifts of yours, that by sinning, we had lost in disobedience. And so, Lord, with all the Angels and Saints, we too give you thanks, as in exultation we acclaim…

    ReplyDelete
  23. Pour on us, O Lord, the Spirit of your love, and in your kindness make those you have nourished by this one heavenly Bread one in mind and heart. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  24. This is the Blessing (Closing Prayer) for the 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Bow your heads and pray for God's blessing.
God sends you now to be in his presence in today's world. Go and tell to those you meet the wonders he has done for you and bring his love and peace to all those around you. Amen.
And may almighty God bless you all: the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Mass has ended, and you are sent. Therefore, let the Lord Jesus Christ go with you to bring his light and salvation to all. Thanks be to God.
