First Reading (Numbers 11: 25–29)
A reading from the book of Numbers.
The Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. He took some of the spirit that was upon him and put it on the seventy elders. Now when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But this they did not do again. Two men had remained in the camp; the name of one was Eldad, the name of the other Medad. However, the spirit came on them for they were among those who were registered though they had not gone out to the Tent. As they prophesied inside the camp, a young man ran and told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp." Joshua, the son of Nun, who ministered to Moses from his youth stated, "My lord Moses, stop them!" But Moses stated to him, "Are you jealous on my behalf? Would that all the Lord's people were prophets and that the Lord would sent his spirit upon them!"
Second Reading (James 5: 1–6)
A reading from the letter of Saint James.
So, now for what concerns the rich! Cry and weep for the misfortunes which are coming upon you. Your riches are rotting and your clothes eaten up by the moths. Your silver and gold have rusted and their rust grows into a witness against you. It will consume flesh like fire, for having piled up riches in these last days. You deceived the workers who harvested your fields but now their wages cry out to the heavens. The reapers' complaints have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You lived in luxury and pleasure in this world and felt happy while others were murdered. You have easily condemned and killed the innocent since they offered no resistance.
Gospel (Mark 9: 38–43, 45 and 47–48)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark.
John stated to Jesus, "Master, we saw someone who drove out demons by calling upon your name, and we tried to forbid him because he does not belong to our group." Jesus answered, "Do not forbid him, for the one who works a miracle in my name can soon after speak evil of me. For whoever is not against us is for us. If anyone gives a drink of water because you belong to Christ and bear his name, truly, I say to you, he will not go without reward. If anyone should cause one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble and sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a great millstone around his neck. If your hand makes you fall into sin, cut it off! it is better for you to enter life without a hand than with two hands to go to hell, to the fire that never goes out. And if your foot makes you fall into sin, cut it off! It is better for you to enter life without a foot than with both feet to be thrown into hell. And if your eye makes you fall into sin, tear it out! it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than, keeping both eyes, to be thrown into hell where the worms that eat them never die, and the fire never goes out."
Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 19) (Verses 8, 10, and 12–14)

The law of the Lord is perfect: it gives life to the soul. The word of the Lord is trustworthy: it gives wisdom to the simple.
The fear of the Lord is pure, it endures forever; the judgments of the Lord are true, all of them just and right.
They are a light to your servant, in keeping them they win a great reward. But who can discern one's own errors? Forgive the failings of which I am unaware.
Preserve me from willful sin; do not let it get the better of your servant. Then shall I walk blameless and innocent of serious sin.

Entonces Yahvé bajó en la nube y habló, luego tomó del espíritu que estaba en Moisés y lo puso en los setenta hombres ancianos. Cuando el espíritu se posó sobre ellos, se pusieron a profetizar, pero después no lo hicieron más. Dos hombres se habían quedado en el campamento, el primero se llamaba Eldad y el otro, Medad; el espíritu se posó sobre ellos. Pertenecían a los inscritos, pero no habían ido a la Tienda, y profetizaron en el campamento. Un muchacho corrió para anunciárselo a Moisés: “Eldad y Medad están profetizando en el campamento.” Josué, hijo de Nun, servidor de Moisés desde su juventud, tomó la palabra: “¡Mi señor Moisés, prohíbeselo!” Pero Moisés le respondió: “¿Así que te pones celoso por mí? ¡Ojalá que todo el pueblo de Yahvé fuera profeta, que Yahvé les diera a todos su espíritu!”
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 19) (Versículos 8, 10 y 12–14)
La respuesta es: Los preceptos del Señor dan alegría al corazón.
• La ley del Señor es perfecta, reconforta el alma; el testimonio del Señor es verdadero, da sabiduría al simple.
• La palabra del Señor es pura, permanece para siempre; los juicios del Señor son la verdad, enteramente justos.
• También a mí me instruyen: observarlos es muy provechoso. Pero, ¿quién advierte sus propios errores? Purifícame de las faltas ocultas.
• Presérvame, además, del orgullo, para que no me domine; entonces seré irreprochable y me veré libre de ese gran pecado. ¡Ojalá sean de tu agrado las palabras de mi boca, y lleguen hasta ti mis pensamientos, Señor, mi Roca y mi redentor!
Segunda Lectura (Santiago 5: 1–6)
Una lectura de la carta de San Santiago.
Ahora les toca a los ricos: lloren y laméntense porque les han venido encima desgracias. Los gusanos se han metido en sus reservas y la polilla se come sus vestidos, su oro y su plata se han oxidado. El óxido se levanta como acusador contra ustedes y como un fuego les devora las carnes. ¿Cómo han atesorado, si ya estamos en los últimos días? El salario de los trabajadores que cosecharon sus campos se ha puesto a gritar, pues ustedes no les pagaron; las quejas de los segadores ya habían llegado a los oídos del Señor de los ejércitos. Han conocido sólo lujo y placeres en este mundo, y lo pasaron muy bien, mientras otros eran asesinados. Condenaron y mataron al inocente, pues ¿cómo podía defenderse?
Evangelio (Marcos 9: 38–43, 45, y 47–48)

Juan le dijo: “Maestro, hemos visto a uno que expulsaba demonios en tu Nombre, y tratamos de impedírselo porque no es de los nuestros.” Pero Jesús les dijo: “No se lo impidan, porque nadie puede hacer un milagro en mi Nombre y luego hablar mal de mí. Y él que no está contra nosotros, está con nosotros. Les aseguro que no quedará sin recompensa él que les dé de beber un vaso de agua por el hecho de que ustedes pertenecen a Cristo. Si alguien llegara a escandalizar a uno de estos pequeños que tienen fe, sería preferible para él que le ataran al cuello una piedra de moler y lo arrojaran al mar. Si tu mano es para ti ocasión de pecado, córtala, porque más te vale entrar en la Vida manco, que ir con tus dos manos a la Gehena, al fuego inextinguible. Porque más te vale entrar lisiado en la Vida, que ser arrojado con tus dos pies a la Gehena. Pues es mejor para ti entrar con un solo ojo en el Reino de Dios que ser arrojado con los dos al infierno, donde el gusano no muere y el fuego no se apaga.”

Bumaba si Yahweh sa ulap at kinausap si Moises. Ang pitumpung matatandang pinuno ay binahaginan nga niya ng espiritu, tulad ng ibinigay niya kay Moises. Sila'y napuspos ng kapangyarihan at nagpropesiya ngunit hindi na nila ito muling nagawa. May naiwang dalawang pinuno sa kampo, Eldad ang pangalan ng isa at Medad naman ang isa. Tinawag silang kasama ng pitumpu ngunit hindi sumama. Gayunman, binahaginan din sila ng espiritu ni Yahweh kaya sila'y nagpahayag din tulad ng mga propeta sa loob ng kampo. Nakita pala sila ng isang binata at patakbo itong nagpunta kay Moises. Sinabi niya, "Sina Eldad at Medad ay nagpapahayag sa kampo." Dahil dito, sinabi ni Josue na anak ni Nun at lingkod ni Moises, "Bakit di po ninyo sila sawayin?" Ngunit sinabi ni Moises, "Nangangamba ka bang ako'y mababawasan ng karangalan? Gusto ko ngang maging propeta at mapuspos ng espiritu ni Yahweh ang lahat ng mga Israelita." Si Moises at ang pitumpung pinuno ng Israel ay nagbalik na sa kampo.

Kinakalawang na ang inyong ginto at pilak, at ang kalawang ding iyon ang magiging katibayan laban sa inyo at parang apoy na tutupok sa inyong laman. Iyan ang kayamanang inimpok ninyo para sa mga huling araw. Sumisigaw laban sa inyo ang mga umani sa inyong bukirin dahil hindi ninyo ibinigay sa kanila ang kanilang sweldo. Umabot na sa langit, sa pandinig ng Panginoong Makapangyarihan sa lahat, ang mga hinaing ng mga mang-aani na inyong inapi! Nagpasasa kayo sa kalayawan at karangyaan dito sa lupa. Nagpataba kayong parang mga hayop na kakatayin. Hinatulan ninyo at ipinapatay ang taong matuwid na walang kalaban-laban.

Ngunit sinabi ni Jesus, "Huwag ninyo siyang pagbawalan sapagkat ang taong gumagawa ng himala sa pamamagitan ng pangalan ko ay hindi agad magsasalita ng masama laban sa akin. Sapagkat ang sinumang hindi laban sa atin ay panig sa atin. Tandaan ninyo: ang sinumang magbigay sa inyo ng isang basong tubig dahil sa kayo'y tagasunod ko ay tiyak na tatanggap ng gantimpala." "Mabuti pa sa isang tao ang siya'y bitinan sa leeg ng isang malaking gilingang-bato at itapon sa dagat kaysa maging sanhi ng pagkakasala ng isa sa maliliit na ito na nananalig sa akin. Mas mabuti pa ang magkaroon ng buhay na putol ang isang kamay, kaysa may dalawang kamay na mapunta ka sa impiyerno, sa apoy na hindi namamatay. Lalu turunlah TUHAN dalam awan dan berbicara kepada Musa, kemudian diambil-Nya sebagian dari Roh yang hinggap padanya, dan ditaruh-Nya atas ketujuh puluh tua-tua itu; ketika Roh itu hinggap pada mereka, kepenuhanlah mereka seperti nabi, tetapi sesudah itu tidak lagi. Masih ada dua orang tinggal di tempat perkemahan; yang seorang bernama Eldad, yang lain bernama Medad. Ketika Roh itu hinggap pada mereka—mereka itu termasuk orang-orang yang dicatat, tetapi tidak turut pergi ke kemah—maka kepenuhanlah mereka seperti nabi di tempat perkemahan. Lalu berlarilah seorang muda memberitahukan kepada Musa: "Eldad dan Medad kepenuhan seperti nabi di tempat perkemahan." Maka menjawablah Yosua bin Nun, yang sejak mudanya menjadi abdi Musa: "Tuanku Musa, cegahlah mereka!" Tetapi Musa berkata kepadanya: "Apakah engkau begitu giat mendukung diriku? Ah, kalau seluruh umat TUHAN menjadi nabi, oleh karena TUHAN memberi Roh-Nya hinggap kepada mereka!"

Jadi sekarang hai kamu orang-orang kaya, menangislah dan merataplah atas sengsara yang akan menimpa kamu! Kekayaanmu sudah busuk, dan pakaianmu telah dimakan ngengat! Emas dan perakmu sudah berkarat, dan karatnya akan menjadi kesaksian terhadap kamu dan akan memakan dagingmu seperti api. Kamu telah mengumpulkan harta pada hari-hari yang sedang berakhir. Sesungguhnya telah terdengar teriakan besar, karena upah yang kamu tahan dari buruh yang telah menuai hasil ladangmu, dan telah sampai ke telinga Tuhan semesta alam keluhan mereka yang menyabit panenmu. Dalam kemewahan kamu telah hidup dan berfoya-foya di bumi, kamu telah memuaskan hatimu sama seperti pada hari penyembelihan.
