First reading
(Isaiah 53: 10–11)
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
The LORD was pleased to crush him in infirmity. If he gives his
life as an offering for sin, he shall see his descendants in a long life, and
the will of the LORD shall be accomplished through him. Because of his
affliction he shall see the light in fullness of days; through his suffering,
my servant shall justify many, and their guilt he shall bear.
Second reading (Hebrews 4: 14–16)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Hebrews.
Brothers and sisters: Since we have a great high priest who has
passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our
confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with
our weaknesses, but one who has similarly been tested in every way, yet without
sin. So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to
find grace for timely help.
Gospel (Mark 10: 35–45)

James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus and said to
him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." He
replied, "What do you wish me to do for you?" They answered him,
"Grant that in your glory we may sit one at your right and the other at
your left." Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking.
Can you drink the cup that I drink or be baptized with the baptism with which I
am baptized?" They said to him, "We can." Jesus said to them,
"The cup that I drink, you will drink, and with the baptism with which I
am baptized, you will be baptized; but to sit at my right or at my left is not
mine to give but is for those for whom it has been prepared." When the ten
heard this, they became indignant at James and John. Jesus summoned them and
said to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers over the
Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones make their authority over them
felt. But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great
among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be
the slave of all. For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and
to give his life as a ransom for many."

Salmo responsorial (Salmo 33) (Versículos 4–5, 18–20 y 22)
La respuesta es: Señor, que tengas misericordia de nosotros, mientras confiamos en ti.
• Porque la palabra del Señor es recta y él obra siempre con lealtad; él ama la justicia y el derecho, y la tierra está llena de su amor.
• Los ojos del Señor están fijos sobre sus fieles, sobre los que esperan en su misericordia, para librar sus vidas de la muerte y sustentarlos en el tiempo de indigencia.

Segunda lectura (Hebreos 4: 14–16)

Tenemos, pues, un sumo sacerdote excepcional, que ha entrado en el mismo cielo, Jesús, el Hijo de Dios. Esto es suficiente para que nos mantengamos firmes en la fe que profesamos. Nuestro sumo sacerdote no se queda indiferente ante nuestras debilidades, pues ha sido probado en todo igual que nosotros, a excepción del pecado. Por lo tanto, acerquémonos con plena confianza a la sede de la gracia, a fin de obtener misericordia y hallar la gracia del auxilio oportuno.
Evangelio (Marcos 10: 35–45)

Santiago y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, se acercaron a Jesús y le dijeron: “Maestro, queremos que nos concedas lo que te vamos a pedir.” Él les dijo: “¿Qué quieren de mí?” Respondieron: “Concédenos que nos sentemos uno a tu derecha y otro a tu izquierda cuando estés en tu gloria.” Jesús les dijo: “Ustedes no saben lo que piden. ¿Pueden beber la copa que yo estoy bebiendo o ser bautizados como yo soy bautizado?” Ellos contestaron: “Sí, podemos.” Jesús les dijo: “Pues bien, la copa que voy a beber yo, la beberán también ustedes, y serán bautizados con él mismo bautismo que voy a recibir yo; pero el sentarse a mi derecha o a mi izquierda no me corresponde a mí para concederlo; eso ha sido preparado para otros.” Cuando los otros diez oyeron esto, se enojaron con Santiago y Juan. Jesús los llamó y les dijo: “Como ustedes saben, los que se consideran jefes de las naciones actúan como dictadores, y los que ocupan cargos abusan de su autoridad. Pero no será así entre ustedes. Apabila ia menyerahkan dirinya sebagai korban penebus salah, ia akan melihat keturunannya, umurnya akan lanjut, dan kehendak TUHAN akan terlaksana olehnya. Sesudah kesusahan jiwanya ia akan melihat terang dan menjadi puas; dan hamba-Ku itu, sebagai orang yang benar, akan membenarkan banyak orang oleh hikmatnya, dan kejahatan mereka dia pikul.
Bacaan kedua (Ibrani 4: 14–16)

Karena kita sekarang mempunyai Imam Besar Agung, yang telah melintasi semua langit, yaitu Yesus, Anak Allah, baiklah kita teguh berpegang pada pengakuan iman kita. Sebab Imam Besar yang kita punya, bukanlah imam besar yang tidak dapat turut merasakan kelemahan-kelemahan kita, sebaliknya sama dengan kita, Ia telah dicobai, hanya tidak berbuat dosa. Sebab itu marilah kita dengan penuh keberanian menghampiri takhta kasih karunia, supaya kita menerima rahmat dan menemukan kasih karunia untuk mendapat pertolongan kita pada waktunya.

Ma al Signore è piaciuto prostrarlo con dolori. Quando offrirà se stesso in espiazione, vedrà una discendenza, vivrà a lungo, si compirà per mezzo suo la volontà del Signore. Dopo il suo intimo tormento vedrà la luce e si sazierà della sua conoscenza; il giusto mio servo giustificherà molti, egli si addosserà la loro iniquità.
Seconda lettura (Ebrei 4: 14–16)
Una lettura della lettera di San Paolo agli Ebrei.
Poiché dunque abbiamo un grande sommo sacerdote, che ha attraversato i cieli, Gesù, Figlio di Dio, manteniamo ferma la professione della nostra fede. Infatti non abbiamo un sommo sacerdote che non sappia compatire le nostre infermità, essendo stato lui stesso provato in ogni cosa, a somiglianza di noi, escluso il peccato. Accostiamoci dunque con piena fiducia al trono della grazia, per ricevere misericordia e trovare grazia ed essere aiutati al momento opportuno.

Potete bere il calice che io bevo, o ricevere il battesimo con cui io sono battezzato?” Gli risposero: “Lo possiamo.” E Gesù disse: “Il calice che io bevo anche voi lo berrete, e il battesimo che io ricevo anche voi lo riceverete. Ma sedere alla mia destra o alla mia sinistra non sta a me concederlo; è per coloro per i quali è stato preparato.” All'udire questo, gli altri dieci si sdegnarono con Giacomo e Giovanni. Allora Gesù, chiamatili a sé, disse loro: “Voi sapete che coloro che sono ritenuti capi delle nazioni le dominano, e i loro grandi esercitano su di esse il potere. Fra voi però non è così; ma chi vuol essere grande tra voi si farà vostro servitore, e chi vuol essere il primo tra voi sarà il servo di tutti. Il Figlio dell'uomo infatti non è venuto per essere servito, ma per servire e dare la propria vita in riscatto per molti.”
