New American Bible readings
First reading (Acts 5: 27–32 and 40b–41)
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
When the captain and the court officers had brought the apostles in and made them stand before the Sanhedrin, the high priest questioned them, "We gave you strict orders, did we not, to stop teaching in that name? Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and want to bring this man's blood upon us." But Peter and the apostles said in reply, "We must obey God rather than men. The God of our ancestors raised Jesus, though you had him killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as leader and savior to grant Israel repentance and forgiveness of sins. We are witnesses of these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him." The Sanhedrin ordered the apostles to stop speaking in the name of Jesus, and dismissed them. So they left the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they had been found worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name.
Second reading (Revelation 5: 11–14)

I, John, looked and heard the voices of many angels who surrounded the throne and the living creatures and the elders. They were countless in number, and they cried out in a loud voice: "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and glory and blessing." Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, everything in the universe, cry out: "To the one who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor, glory and might, forever and ever." The four living creatures answered, "Amen," and the elders fell down and worshiped.
Gospel (John 21: 1–19)

At that time, Jesus revealed himself again to his disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. He revealed himself in this way. Together were Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, Zebedee's sons, and two others of his disciples. Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We also will come with you." So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. When it was already dawn, Jesus was standing on the shore; but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, "Children, have you caught anything to eat?" They answered him, "No." So he said to them, "Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something." So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in because of the number of fish. So the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord." When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tucked in his garment, for he was lightly clad, and jumped into the sea. The other disciples came in the boat, for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards, dragging the net with the fish. When they climbed out on shore, they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread. Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish you just caught." So Simon Peter went over and dragged the net ashore full of one hundred fifty-three large fish. Even though there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, "Come, have breakfast." And none of the disciples dared to ask him, "Who are you?" because they realized it was the Lord. Jesus came over and took the bread and gave it to them, and in like manner the fish. This was now the third time Jesus was revealed to his disciples after being raised from the dead. When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" Simon Peter answered him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my lambs." He then said to Simon Peter a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Simon Peter answered him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Tend my sheep." Jesus said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed that Jesus had said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep. Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go." He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he had said this, he said to him, "Follow me."

The Council called in the apostles and had them whipped, and order them not to speak again of Jesus the Savior. Then they set them free. The apostles went out from the Council rejoicing that they were considered worthy to suffer disgrace for the sake of the Name.

Then I heard the voice of the whole universe, heaven, earth, sea, and the place of the dead; every creature cried out: "To him who sits upon the throne and to the Lamb be praise, honor, glory and power forever and ever." And the four living creatures stated, "Amen." The elders bowed down and worshiped.

So Simon Peter climbed into the boat and pulled the net to share. It was full of big fish — one hundred and fifty-three — however, in spite of this, the net was not torn. Jesus proposed to them, "Come and have breakfast." Not even one of the disciples dared to ask Jesus, "Who are you?" for they knew it was the Lord. Los hicieron comparecer ante el Sanedrín, y el Sumo Sacerdote les dijo: “Nosotros les habíamos prohibido expresamente predicar en ese Nombre, y ustedes han llenado Jerusalén con su doctrina. ¡Así quieren hacer recaer sobre nosotros la sangre de ese hombre!” Pedro, junto con los Apóstoles, respondió: “Hay que obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres. El Dios de nuestros padres ha resucitado a Jesús, al que ustedes hicieron morir suspendiéndolo del patíbulo. A él, Dios lo exaltó con su poder, haciéndolo Jefe y Salvador, a fin de conceder a Israel la conversión y el perdón de los pecados. Nosotros somos testigos de estas cosas, nosotros y el Espíritu Santo que Dios ha enviado a los que le obedecen.” El Sanedrín llamó a los Apóstoles, y después de hacerlos azotar, les prohibieron hablar en el nombre de Jesús y los soltaron. Los Apóstoles, por su parte, salieron del Sanedrín, dichosos de haber sido considerados dignos de padecer por el nombre de Jesús.

Y les respondían todas las criaturas del cielo, de la tierra, del mar y del mundo de abajo. Oí que decían: Al que está sentado en el trono y al Cordero, la alabanza, el honor, la gloria y el poder por los siglos de los siglos. Simón Pedro les dijo: “Voy a pescar.” Ellos le respondieron: “Vamos también nosotros.” Salieron y subieron a la barca. Pero esa noche no pescaron nada. Al amanecer, Jesús estaba en la orilla, aunque los discípulos no sabían que era él. Jesús les dijo: “Muchachos, ¿tienen algo para comer?” Ellos respondieron: “No.” Él les dijo: “Tiren la red a la derecha de la barca y encontrarán.” Ellos la tiraron y se llenó tanto de peces que no podían arrastrarla. El discípulo al que Jesús amaba dijo a Pedro: “¡Es el Señor!” Cuando Simón Pedro oyó que era el Señor, se ciñó la túnica, que era lo único que llevaba puesto, y se tiró al agua. Los otros discípulos fueron en la barca, arrastrando la red con los peces, porque estaban sólo a unos cien metros de la orilla. Te aseguro que cuando eras joven tú mismo te vestías e ibas a donde querías. Pero cuando seas viejo, extenderás tus brazos, y otro te atará y te llevará a donde no quieras.” De esta manera, indicaba con qué muerte Pedro debía glorificar a Dios. Y después de hablar así, le dijo: “Sígueme.”

Laganap na sa Jerusalem ang inyong itinuturo at nais pa ninyo kaming papanagutin sa pagkamatay ng taong iyan!” Sumagot si Pedro at ang ibang mga apostol, “Sa Diyos kami dapat sumunod, at hindi sa tao. Dumating sa pampang ang kasama niyang mga alagad, sakay ng bangka at hila-hila ang lambat na puno ng isda. Hindi sila gaanong malayo sa pampang, mga siyamnapung metro lamang. Pagkaahon nila sa pampang, nakakita sila roon ng isdang iniihaw sa nagbabagang uling, at ilang tinapay. “Magdala kayo rito ng ilang isdang nahuli ninyo,” sabi ni Jesus. Kaya't sumampa sa bangka si Simon Pedro at hinila sa pampang ang lambat na puno ng malalaking isda; isandaan at limampu't tatlo lahat ang nahuli nila. Hindi nasira ang lambat, kahit ganoon karami ang mga isda. “Halikayo at mag-agahan kayo,” sabi ni Jesus. Isa man sa mga alagad ay hindi nangahas magtanong sa kanya kung sino siya sapagkat alam nila na siya ang Panginoon. Lumapit si Jesus, kinuha ang tinapay at ibinigay sa kanila. Ganoon din ang kanyang ginawa sa isda. Ito ang ikatlong pagpapakita ni Jesus sa mga alagad pagkatapos na siya'y muling mabuhay. Sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Kung gayon pakainin mo ang aking mga batang tupa.” Muli siyang tinanong ni Jesus, “Simon, anak ni Juan, iniibig mo ba ako?” Sumagot si Pedro, “Opo, Panginoon, alam ninyong mahal ko kayo.” Sabi ni Jesus, “Alagaan mo ang aking mga tupa.” Pangatlong ulit na tinanong siya ni Jesus, “Simon, anak ni Juan, mahal mo ba ako?” Nalungkot si Pedro sapagkat tatlong beses siyang tinanong ng, “Mahal mo ba ako?” At sumagot siya, “Panginoon, alam po ninyo ang lahat ng bagay; alam ninyong mahal ko kayo.” Sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Pakainin mo ang aking mga tupa. Pakatandaan mo: noong bata ka pa, ikaw ang nagbibihis sa iyong sarili at pumupunta ka kung saan mo gusto. Ngunit pagtanda mo, iuunat mo ang iyong mga kamay at iba ang magbibihis sa iyo at dadalhin ka kung saan hindi mo gusto.” Sinabi niya ito upang ipahiwatig kung paano mamamatay si Pedro at kung paano niya luluwalhatiin ang Diyos. Pagkatapos, sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Sumunod ka sa akin!”

Mereka membawa keduanya dan menghadapkan mereka kepada Mahkamah Agama. Imam Besar mulai menanyai mereka, katanya: "Dengan keras kami melarang kamu mengajar dalam Nama itu. Namun ternyata, kamu telah memenuhi Yerusalem dengan ajaranmu dan kamu hendak menanggungkan darah Orang itu kepada kami." Tetapi Petrus dan rasul-rasul itu menjawab, katanya: "Kita harus lebih taat kepada Allah dari pada kepada manusia. Allah nenek moyang kita telah membangkitkan Yesus, yang kamu gantungkan pada kayu salib dan kamu bunuh. Dialah yang telah ditinggikan oleh Allah sendiri dengan tangan kanan-Nya menjadi Pemimpin dan Juruselamat, supaya Israel dapat bertobat dan menerima pengampunan dosa. Dan kami adalah saksi dari segala sesuatu itu, kami dan Roh Kudus, yang dikaruniakan Allah kepada semua orang yang mentaati Dia." Mereka memanggil rasul-rasul itu, lalu menyesah mereka dan melarang mereka mengajar dalam nama Yesus. Sesudah itu mereka dilepaskan. Rasul-rasul itu meninggalkan sidang Mahkamah Agama dengan gembira, karena mereka telah dianggap layak menderita penghinaan oleh karena Nama Yesus.

Maka aku melihat dan mendengar suara banyak malaikat sekeliling takhta, makhluk-makhluk dan tua-tua itu; jumlah mereka berlaksa-laksa dan beribu-ribu laksa, katanya dengan suara nyaring: "Anak Domba yang disembelih itu layak untuk menerima kuasa, dan kekayaan, dan hikmat, dan kekuatan, dan hormat, dan kemuliaan, dan puji-pujian!" Dan aku mendengar semua makhluk yang di sorga dan yang di bumi dan yang di bawah bumi dan yang di laut dan semua yang ada di dalamnya, berkata: "Bagi Dia yang duduk di atas takhta dan bagi Anak Domba, adalah puji-pujian dan hormat dan kemuliaan dan kuasa sampai selama-lamanya!" Dan keempat makhluk itu berkata: "Amin". Dan tua-tua itu jatuh tersungkur dan menyembah.

Kemudian Yesus menampakkan diri lagi kepada murid-murid-Nya di pantai danau Tiberias dan Ia menampakkan diri sebagai berikut. Di pantai itu berkumpul Simon Petrus, Tomas yang disebut Didimus, Natanael dari Kana yang di Galilea, anak-anak Zebedeus dan dua orang murid-Nya yang lain. Kata Simon Petrus kepada mereka: "Aku pergi menangkap ikan." Kata mereka kepadanya: "Kami pergi juga dengan engkau." Mereka berangkat lalu naik ke perahu, tetapi malam itu mereka tidak menangkap apa-apa. Ketika hari mulai siang, Yesus berdiri di pantai; akan tetapi murid-murid itu tidak tahu, bahwa itu adalah Yesus. Kata Yesus kepada mereka: "Hai anak-anak, adakah kamu mempunyai lauk-pauk?" Jawab mereka: "Tidak ada." Maka kata Yesus kepada mereka: "Tebarkanlah jalamu di sebelah kanan perahu, maka akan kamu peroleh." Lalu mereka menebarkannya dan mereka tidak dapat menariknya lagi karena banyaknya ikan. Maka murid yang dikasihi Yesus itu berkata kepada Petrus: "Itu Tuhan." Ketika Petrus mendengar, bahwa itu adalah Tuhan, maka ia mengenakan pakaiannya, sebab ia tidak berpakaian, lalu terjun ke dalam danau. Murid-murid yang lain datang dengan perahu karena mereka tidak jauh dari darat, hanya kira-kira dua ratus hasta saja dan mereka menghela jala yang penuh ikan itu. Ketika mereka tiba di darat, mereka melihat api arang dan di atasnya ikan dan roti. Kata Yesus kepada mereka: "Bawalah beberapa ikan, yang baru kamu tangkap itu." Simon Petrus naik ke perahu lalu menghela jala itu ke darat, penuh ikan-ikan besar: seratus lima puluh tiga ekor banyaknya, dan sungguhpun sebanyak itu, jala itu tidak koyak. Kata Yesus kepada mereka: "Marilah dan sarapanlah." Tidak ada di antara murid-murid itu yang berani bertanya kepada-Nya: "Siapakah Engkau?" Sebab mereka tahu, bahwa Ia adalah Tuhan. Yesus maju ke depan, mengambil roti dan memberikannya kepada mereka, demikian juga ikan itu. Itulah ketiga kalinya Yesus menampakkan diri kepada murid-murid-Nya sesudah Ia bangkit dari antara orang mati. Sesudah sarapan Yesus berkata kepada Simon Petrus: "Simon, anak Yohanes, apakah engkau mengasihi Aku lebih dari pada mereka ini?" Jawab Petrus kepada-Nya: "Benar Tuhan, Engkau tahu, bahwa aku mengasihi Engkau." Kata Yesus kepadanya: "Gembalakanlah domba-domba-Ku." Kata Yesus pula kepadanya untuk kedua kalinya: "Simon, anak Yohanes, apakah engkau mengasihi Aku?" Jawab Petrus kepada-Nya: "Benar Tuhan, Engkau tahu, bahwa aku mengasihi Engkau." Aku berkata kepadamu: Sesungguhnya ketika engkau masih muda engkau mengikat pinggangmu sendiri dan engkau berjalan ke mana saja kaukehendaki, tetapi jika engkau sudah menjadi tua, engkau akan mengulurkan tanganmu dan orang lain akan mengikat engkau dan membawa engkau ke tempat yang tidak kaukehendaki." Dan hal ini dikatakan-Nya untuk menyatakan bagaimana Petrus akan mati dan memuliakan Allah. Sesudah mengatakan demikian Ia berkata kepada Petrus: "Ikutlah Aku."

こうして、ようやく使徒たちが議会に引き出されました。まず、大祭司が問いただしました。「二度とイエスの教えを語ってはならないと、あれほどきつく言い渡したではないか。それなのに、どういうことだ。エルサレム中に教えを広めているではないか。おまえたちの魂胆はわかっている。イエスを殺した責任を、私たちにかぶせようというのだ。」しかし、ペテロと使徒たちは答えました。「人間よりも、神に従うべきです。私たちの先祖たちの神は、あなたがたが十字架で処刑したイエス様を復活させてくださいました。神様は大きな力でこの方を引き上げ、神の御子、また救い主となさったのです。それもみな、罪を悔い改め、赦していただく機会を、イスラエルの人々に与えるためでした。私たちは、まさにこのことの証人です。神に従うすべての人に与えられる聖霊もまた、このことの証人なのです。」説得は功を奏しました。一同は、ガマリエルの忠告に従うことにしたのです。そこで、使徒たちをもう一度呼び入れ、むち打ちにし、二度とイエスの名を口にしてはならないと命じてから釈放しました。使徒たちは、神の名のためにはずかしめを受けたことを、むしろ喜びながら、議会をあとにしました。
第二読み物 （ヨハネの黙示録5章：11詩–14詩）

それからまた、私は幻によって、王座と生き物と長老たちとの回りで歌う、数えきれない天使たちの声を聞きました。彼らは大声で、「小羊こそ、ささげられるためにふさわしい方。殺された小羊こそ、力と、富と、知恵と、強さと、誉れと、栄光と、祝福とを受けるにふさわしい方」と歌っていました。それからまた、私は、天地のすべての者、地下や海中に眠る死者全員の叫び声を聞きました。「祝福と誉れと栄光と力とが、王座に座っておられる方と小羊とに、永遠にありますように。」すると、四つの生き物は「アーメン」と言い、二十四人の長老はひれ伏して礼拝しました。

このことがあってから、ガリラヤ湖のほとりで、イエスはもう一度、弟子たちの前に現れました。その時のいきさつはこうです。シモン・ペテロ、トマス、ガリラヤのカナ出身のナタナエル、私の兄弟のヤコブ、それに私と、ほかに二人の弟子がいっしょにいました。「漁に行くぞ」とシモン・ペテロが言いだしました。するとみんな、「それじゃあ、おれたちも」というわけで、そろって出かけました。小舟に乗り込み、漁が始まりました。ところが一晩中かかっても、小さな魚一匹とれません。もう夜明けというころ、だれかが岸辺に立っているのが見えました。ぼんやりかすんでいるので、だれなのかはわかりません。「魚はとれましたかー。」その人が声をかけてきました。「いやー、全然だめだよー。」「では、舟の右側に網を下ろしてごらんなさい。きっと、たくさんとれますよ。」さっそくそのとおりにすると、どうでしょう。重くて引き上げられないほど、たくさんの魚がかかったのです。その時、私ははっと気がつき、「おい、あの方は主だよ！」とペテロに言いました。それを聞くと、ペテロは裸だったので、あわてて上着をはおり、水に飛び込みました。舟に残った私たちは、百メートルほど離れた岸辺まで、魚ではち切れんばかりの網を引いて、そろそろ進みました。着いてみると、炭火がおこしてあります。その上では魚がいいぐあいに焼けており、パンもあります。「今とった魚を少し持って来なさい。」イエスにこう言われて、シモン・ペテロがまっ先に飛んで行き、網を陸に引き上げました。数えてみると、なんと大きな魚が百五十三匹もとれていて、しかも網はどこも破れていません。「さあ、ここへ来て、朝ごはんにしなさい」とイエスはうながされます。「ほんとうに主ですか」とあえて尋ねる者は一人もいません。それほどはっきりわかったのです。イエスはそばに来られ、パンと魚をめいめいに配ってくださいました。死から復活されたあと、私たちに現れてくださったのは、これで三度目です。食事がすむと、イエスはシモン・ペテロを見つめておっしゃいました。「ヨハネの子シモン。ほかのだれよりもわたしを愛しますか。」「はい、主よ。私があなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです。」「それでは、わたしの小羊を養いなさい。」イエスは、くり返しお尋ねになりました。「ヨハネの子シモン。ほんとうにわたしを愛していますか。」「はい、主よ。私があなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです。」「それでは、わたしの羊の世話をしなさい。」イエスはもう一度言われました。「ヨハネの子シモン。ほんとうにわたしを愛していますか。」三度こんな尋ね方をされたので、ペテロは心に痛みを感じながら答えました。「主よ。いっさいをご存じなのはあなたです。私があなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです。」「それでは、わたしの羊を養いなさい。あなたは若い時にはしたいことをし、行きたい所に行きました。だが、年をとると、そうはいかなくなります。あなたは自分の手を伸ばして差し出し、だれかほかの人が、行きたくもない所へあなたを引っぱって行くのです。」こう言われたのには訳がありました。ペテロがどんな死に方をして、神の栄光を現すかを知らせようとなさったのです。それから、「わたしについて来なさい」と言われました。
