New American Bible readings
First reading (Acts 13: 14 and 43–52)
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
Paul and Barnabas continued on from Perga and reached Antioch in Pisidia. On the Sabbath, they entered the synagogue and took their seats. Many Jews and worshipers who were converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them and urged them to remain faithful to the grace of God. On the following Sabbath, almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and with violent abuse contradicted what Paul said. Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first, but since you reject it and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles. For so the Lord has commanded us, I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.” The Gentiles were delighted when they heard this and glorified the word of the Lord. All who were destined for eternal life came to believe, and the word of the Lord continued to spread through the whole region. The Jews, however, incited the women of prominence who were worshipers and the leading men of the city, stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their territory. So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them, and went to Iconium. The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
Second reading (Revelation 7: 9 and 14b–17)

I, John, had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands. Then one of the elders said to me, “These are the ones who have survived the time of great distress; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. “For this reason they stand before God’s throne and worship him day and night in his temple. The one who sits on the throne will shelter them. They will not hunger or thirst anymore, nor will the sun or any heat strike them. For the Lamb who is in the center of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of life-giving water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Jesus said: “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”

So they began to oppose with insults whatever Paul had stated. Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out firmly, saying, "It was necessary that God's word be first proclaimed to you, but since you now reject it and judge yourselves to be unworthy of eternal life, we turn to non-Jewish people. For thus we were commanded by the Lord: I have set you as a light to the pagan nations, so that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth." Those who were not Jews rejoiced when they heard this and praised the message of the Lord, and all those destined for everlasting life believed in it. Thus the Word spread throughout the whole region. Some of the Jews, however, incited God-fearing women of the upper class and the leading men of the city, as well, and stirred up an intense persecution against Paul and Barnabas. Finally they had them expelled from their region. The apostles shook the dust from their feet in protest against this people and went to Iconium, leaving the disciples filled with joy and Holy Spirit.

The elder replied, "They are those who have come out of the great persecution; they have washed and made their clothes white in the blood of the Lamb. This is why they stand before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his sanctuary. He who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. Never again will they suffer hunger or thirst or be burned by the sun or any scorching wind. For the Lamb near the throne will be their Shepherd, and he will bring them to springs of life-giving water, and God will wipe away their tears."

Pablo y Bernabé continuaron su viaje, y de Perge fueron a Antioquía de Pisidia. El sábado entraron en la sinagoga y se sentaron. Cuando se disolvió la asamblea, muchos judíos y prosélitos que adoraban a Dios siguieron a Pablo y a Bernabé. Estos conversaban con ellos, exhortándolos a permanecer fieles a la gracia de Dios. Casi toda la ciudad se reunió el sábado siguiente para escuchar la Palabra de Dios. Al ver esa multitud, los judíos se llenaron de envidia y con injurias contradecían las palabras de Pablo. Entonces Pablo y Bernabé, con gran firmeza, dijeron: “A ustedes debíamos anunciar en primer lugar la Palabra de Dios, pero ya que la rechazan y no se consideran dignos de la Vida eterna, nos dirigimos ahora a los paganos. Así nos ha ordenado el Señor: ‘Yo te he establecido para ser la luz de las naciones, para llevar la salvación hasta los confines de la tierra.’” Al oír esto, los paganos, llenos de alegría, alabaron la Palabra de Dios, y todos los que estaban destinados a la vida eterna abrazaron la fe. Así la Palabra del Señor se iba extendiendo por toda la región. Pero los judíos instigaron a unas mujeres piadosas que pertenecían a la aristocracia y a los principales de la ciudad, provocando una persecución contra Pablo y Bernabé, y los echaron de su territorio. Estos, sacudiendo el polvo de sus pies en señal de protesta contra ellos, se dirigieron a Iconio. Los discípulos, por su parte, quedaron llenos de alegría y del Espíritu Santo.

Dari Perga mereka melanjutkan perjalanan mereka, lalu tiba di Antiokhia di Pisidia. Pada hari Sabat mereka pergi ke rumah ibadat, lalu duduk di situ. Setelah selesai ibadah, banyak orang Yahudi dan penganut-penganut agama Yahudi yang takut akan Allah, mengikuti Paulus dan Barnabas; kedua rasul itu mengajar mereka dan menasihati supaya mereka tetap hidup di dalam kasih karunia Allah. Pada hari Sabat berikutnya datanglah hampir seluruh kota itu berkumpul untuk mendengar firman Allah. Akan tetapi, ketika orang Yahudi melihat orang banyak itu, penuhlah mereka dengan iri hati dan sambil menghujat, mereka membantah apa yang dikatakan oleh Paulus. Tetapi dengan berani Paulus dan Barnabas berkata: "Memang kepada kamulah firman Allah harus diberitakan lebih dahulu, tetapi kamu menolaknya dan menganggap dirimu tidak layak untuk beroleh hidup yang kekal. Karena itu kami berpaling kepada bangsa-bangsa lain. Sebab inilah yang diperintahkan kepada kami: Aku telah menentukan engkau menjadi terang bagi bangsa-bangsa yang tidak mengenal Allah, supaya engkau membawa keselamatan sampai ke ujung bumi." Mendengar itu bergembiralah semua orang yang tidak mengenal Allah dan mereka memuliakan firman Tuhan; dan semua orang yang ditentukan Allah untuk hidup yang kekal, menjadi percaya. Lalu firman Tuhan disiarkan di seluruh daerah itu. Orang-orang Yahudi menghasut perempuan-perempuan terkemuka yang takut akan Allah, dan pembesar-pembesar di kota itu, dan mereka menimbulkan penganiayaan atas Paulus dan Barnabas dan mengusir mereka dari daerah itu. しかしバルナバとパウロは、ピシデヤ地方の町、アンテオケに向かいました。安息日（神の定めた休息日）になり、二人は礼拝をするために会堂へ出かけました。礼拝が終わってからも多くのユダヤ人や熱心な外国人改宗者が、パウロとバルナバについて来ました。二人はその人たちに、神の恵みを受けるようにと教えました。次の週の礼拝には、町中の人がこぞって詰めかけ、二人が神のことばを話すのを聞こうとしました。しかしユダヤ人の指導者たちは、この群衆を見てねたみに駆られ、口ぎたなくののしり、ことごとくパウロに反対しました。そこでパウロとバルナバは、はっきり言いました。「この神のことばは、まずあなたがたユダヤ人に伝えられるはずだった。だが、あなたがたはそれを突っぱね、永遠のいのちを受けるにふさわしくない者であることを、自分から証明したのだ。これからは、このすばらしい知らせは、外国人に伝えよう。主が、『わたしはあなたを外国人の光とした。地の果てからも、人々を救いに導くためである』と命じておられるから。」これを聞いた外国人たちは歓喜し、パウロの話に耳を傾けました。そして永遠のいのちを求める人はみな、信仰に入りました。こうして神のことばは、この地方全体に広まったのです。しかし、ユダヤ人の指導者たちも、おとなしく引き下がってはいません。熱心な婦人たちや町の有力者たちをそそのかし、パウロとバルナバを迫害したあげく、とうとう町から追い出してしまいました。二人は、その町と縁を切るしるしに、足のちりを払い落とし、イコニオムへ向かいました。一方、主を信じた人たちは聖霊に満たされ、喜びにあふれていました。
