First reading (Acts 8: 5–8 and 14–17)
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed the Christ to them. With one accord, the crowds paid attention to what was said by Philip when they heard it and saw the signs he was doing. For unclean spirits, crying out in a loud voice, came out of many possessed people, and many paralyzed or crippled people were cured. There was great joy in that city. Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who went down and prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for it had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.
Second reading (1 Peter 3: 15–18)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Peter.
Beloved: Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who defame your good conduct in Christ may themselves be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be the will of God, than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life in the Spirit.
Gospel (John 14: 15–21)

Jesus said to his disciples: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows him. But you know him, because he remains with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”

Felipe descendió a una ciudad de Samaria y allí predicaba a Cristo. Al oírlo y al ver los milagros que hacía, todos recibían unánimemente las palabras de Felipe. Porque los espíritus impuros, dando grandes gritos, salían de muchos que estaban poseídos, y buen número de paralíticos y lisiados quedaron curados. Y fue grande la alegría de aquella ciudad. Cuando los Apóstoles que estaban en Jerusalén oyeron que los samaritanos habían recibido la Palabra de Dios, les enviaron a Pedro y a Juan. Estos, al llegar, oraron por ellos para que recibieran el Espíritu Santo. Porque todavía no había descendido sobre ninguno de ellos, sino que solamente estaban bautizados en el nombre del Señor Jesús. Entonces les impusieron las manos y recibieron el Espíritu Santo.

Segunda lectura (1 Pedro 3: 15–18)
Una lectura de la primera carta de San Pedro.
Bendigan en sus corazones al Señor, a Cristo; estén siempre dispuestos para dar una respuesta a quien les pida cuenta de su esperanza, pero háganlo con sencillez y deferencia, sabiendo que tienen la conciencia limpia. De este modo, si alguien los acusa, la vergüenza será para aquellos que calumnian la vida recta de los cristianos. Es mejor sufrir por hacer el bien, si tal es la voluntad de Dios, que por hacer el mal. Pues Cristo murió una vez por el pecado y para llevarnos a Dios, siendo ésta la muerte del justo por los injustos. Murió en su carne, y luego resucitó por el Espíritu.
Evangelio (Juan 14: 15–21)

Jesús les dijo a sus discípulos, “Si ustedes me aman, cumplirán mis mandamientos. Y yo rogaré al Padre, y él les dará otro Paráclito para que esté siempre con ustedes: el Espíritu de la Verdad, a quien el mundo no puede recibir, porque no lo ve ni lo conoce. Ustedes, en cambio, lo conocen, porque él permanece con ustedes y estará en ustedes. No los dejaré huérfanos, volveré a ustedes. Dentro de poco el mundo ya no me verá, pero ustedes sí me verán, porque yo vivo y también ustedes vivirán. Aquel día comprenderán que yo estoy en mi Padre, y que ustedes están en mí y yo en ustedes. El que recibe mis mandamientos y los cumple, ese es el que me ama; y el que me ama será amado por mi Padre, y yo lo amaré y me manifestaré a él.”

Nagpunta si Felipe sa lungsod ng Samaria at ipinahayag doon ang Cristo. Nang marinig ng mga tao si Felipe at makita ang mga himalang ginawa niya, nakinig silang mabuti sa kanyang sinasabi. Ang masasamang espiritu ay lumabas sa mga taong sinapian nila at sumisigaw habang lumalabas. Maraming lumpo at pilay ang pinagaling kaya't nagkaroon ng malaking kagalakan sa lungsod na iyon. Nang mabalitaan ng mga apostol sa Jerusalem na tinanggap ng mga Samaritano ang salita ng Diyos, isinugo nila roon sina Pedro at Juan. Pagdating doon, ipinanalangin ng dalawang apostol ang mga Samaritano upang sila'y tumanggap din ng Espiritu Santo, sapagkat hindi pa ito bumababa sa kaninuman sa kanila. Sila'y nabautismuhan pa lamang sa pangalan ng Panginoong Jesus. Ipinatong nina Pedro at Juan ang kanilang kamay sa mga Samaritano at tumanggap ang mga ito ng Espiritu Santo.

Igalang ninyo si Cristo mula sa inyong puso bilang Panginoon. Lagi kayong maging handang sumagot sa sinumang humihingi ng paliwanag sa inyo tungkol sa pag-asang nasa inyo. Ngunit gawin ninyo ito nang mahinahon at may paggalang. Panatilihin ninyong malinis ang inyong budhi upang mapahiya ang mga nanlalait at humahamak sa inyong magandang pag-uugali bilang mga lingkod ni Cristo. Higit na mainam ang kayo'y magdusa dahil sa paggawa ng mabuti, sakali mang ito'y ipahintulot ng Diyos, kaysa magdusa kayo dahil sa paggawa ng masama. Dan Filipus pergi ke suatu kota di Samaria dan memberitakan Mesias kepada orang-orang di situ. Ketika orang banyak itu mendengar pemberitaan Filipus dan melihat tanda-tanda yang diadakannya, mereka semua dengan bulat hati menerima apa yang diberitakannya itu. Sebab dari banyak orang yang kerasukan roh jahat keluarlah roh-roh itu sambil berseru dengan suara keras, dan banyak juga orang lumpuh dan orang timpang yang disembuhkan. Maka sangatlah besar sukacita dalam kota itu. Ketika rasul-rasul di Yerusalem mendengar, bahwa tanah Samaria telah menerima firman Allah, mereka mengutus Petrus dan Yohanes ke situ. Setibanya di situ kedua rasul itu berdoa, supaya orang-orang Samaria itu beroleh Roh Kudus. Sebab Roh Kudus belum turun di atas seorangpun di antara mereka, karena mereka hanya dibaptis dalam nama Tuhan Yesus. Kemudian keduanya menumpangkan tangan di atas mereka, lalu mereka menerima Roh Kudus.

ピリポはサマリヤの町へ行き、人々にキリストのことを話しました。ピリポが奇跡を行ったので、みな彼の話に熱心に耳を傾けたのです。悪霊どもは大声でわめきながら人々から出て行き、中風（脳出血などによる半身不随、手足のまひ等の症状）の人や足の不自由な人たちも、次々に治りました。今や、町中が喜びにわき返り、大騒ぎです。エルサレムにとどまっていた使徒たちは、サマリヤ人が神の教えを信じたと伝え聞き、ペテロとヨハネを派遣しました。二人はサマリヤに来ると、さっそく、新しいクリスチャンたちが聖霊を受けるようにと祈りました。主イエスの名によってバプテスマを受けただけで、まだ聖霊が下っていなかったからです。二人が信者たちに手を置いて祈ると、みな聖霊を受けました。
第二読み物（ペテロの手紙一第3章：第15詩–第18詩）
この読み物はペテロの手紙一です。
心を動揺させないで、ただ主キリストを信じなさい。もしだれかに、「なぜキリストを信じるのか」と尋ねられたら、いつでもその理由を話せるようにしておきなさい。ただし、おだやかに、真摯な態度で説明すべきです。そして、正しいことを行いなさい。そうすれば、悪者呼ばわりする人たちも、やがて、あなたがたの正しい生き方に気づいて、自分たちの行為を恥じるでしょう。いいですか。あなたがたが苦しむことが神の御心であれば、悪いことをして苦しみを受けるよりも、正しいことをして苦しみを受けるほうが、はるかにいいのです。キリストも苦しまれました。罪を犯したことのない方であったにもかかわらず、私たち罪人のために死なれたのです。それは、肉においては死んでも、霊においては生かされて、私たちを神のもとに導くためでした。
