First reading (2 Kings 4: 8–11 and 14–16A)
A reading from the second book of Kings.
One day Elisha came to Shunem, where there was a woman of influence, who urged him to dine with her. Afterward, whenever he passed by, he used to stop there to dine. So she said to her husband, "I know that Elisha is a holy man of God. Since he visits us often, let us arrange a little room on the roof and furnish it for him with a bed, table, chair, and lamp, so that when he comes to us he can stay there." Sometime later Elisha arrived and stayed in the room overnight. Later Elisha asked, "Can something be done for her?" His servant Gehazi answered, "Yes! She has no son, and her husband is getting on in years." Elisha said, "Call her." When the woman had been called and stood at the door, Elisha promised, "This time next year you will be fondling a baby son."
Second reading (Romans 6: 3–4 and 8–11)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.
Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God. Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus.
Gospel (Matthew 10: 37–42)
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
Jesus said to his apostles: "Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. "Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because the little one is a disciple—amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward."

One day when Elisha came, he went to the upper room and lay down. So Elisha said to Gehazi, "What can we do for her?" The young man answered, "She has no children her husband is now old." And so Elisha said to him, "Call her." The young man called her and as the woman stood by the door, Elisha said, "By this time next year, you will hold a son in your arms."
Second reading (Romans 6: 3–4 and 8–11)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.
You know that in baptism which unites us to Christ we are all baptized and plunged into his death. By this baptism in his death, we were buried with Christ and, as Christ was raised from among the dead by the Glory of the Father, so we begin walking in a new life. But if we have died with Christ, we believe we will also live with him. We know that Christ, once risen from the dead, will not die again and death has no more dominion over him. There has been death: a death to sin once for all; there is life: a life in God. So you, too, must consider yourselves dead to sin and live to God in Christ Jesus.
Gospel (Matthew 10: 37–42)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
Jesus sent his disciples with these instructions, "Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take up his cross and come after me is not worthy of me. One who wants to benefit from his life will lose it; one who loses his life for my sake will find it. Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes him who sent me. Un día pasaba Eliseo por Sunam. Había allí una mujer rica que lo invitó para que se quedara a comer, y desde ese día, cada vez que pasaba por allí, se detenía en su casa. Ella dijo a su marido: “He sabido que ese hombre que pasa a menudo por nuestra casa es un santo hombre de Dios; construyámosle en la terraza un pequeño cuarto y pongámosle allí una cama, una mesa, una silla y una lámpara. Así, cuando pase por nuestra casa, podrá quedarse ahí.” Un día que pasaba por allí, se fue al cuarto de arriba y se acostó. Eliseo volvió un día a tocar el tema: “Pues bien, ¿qué se puede hacer por ella?” Guejazí respondió: “No tiene hijos y su marido ya es viejo.” Eliseo le dijo: “¡Llámala!” El sirviente la llamó y ella se presentó a la entrada del cuarto. Eliseo le dijo entonces: “Por esta misma fecha, el año entrante estarás acariciando a un hijo.”

Le pondremos allí una cama, una mesa, una silla y una lámpara, para que se quede allí, cuando venga a visitarnos”. Así se hizo y cuando Eliseo regresó a Sunem, subió a la habitación y se recostó en la cama. Entonces le dijo a su criado: “¿Qué podemos hacer por esta mujer?” El criado le dijo: “Mira, no tiene hijos y su marido ya es un anciano”. Entonces dijo Eliseo: “Llámala”. El criado la llamó y ella, al llegar, se detuvo en la puerta. Eliseo le dijo: “El año que viene, por estas mismas fechas, tendrás un hijo en tus brazos”.

— Proclamaré sin cesar la misericordia del Señor, y daré a conocer que su fidelidad es eterna, pues el Señor ha dicho: “Mi amor es para siempre, y mi lealtad, más firme que los cielos”.
— Señor, feliz el pueblo que te alaba y que a tu luz camina, que en tu nombre se alegra a todas horas y al que llena de orgullo tu justicia.

Bigyan natin siya ng higaan, mesa, upuan at ilawan.” Isang araw, bumalik nga roon si Eliseo at doon siya nagpahinga sa silid na inihanda para sa kanya. Kung tayo'y namatay nang kasama ni Cristo, naniniwala tayong mabubuhay rin tayong kasama niya. Alam nating si Cristo na muling binuhay ay hindi na muling mamamatay. Wala nang kapangyarihan sa kanya ang kamatayan. Nang siya'y mamatay, namatay siya nang minsanan para sa lahat ng panahon dahil sa kasalanan; at ang buhay niya ngayon ay para sa Diyos. Berkatalah perempuan itu kepada suaminya: “Sesungguhnya aku sudah tahu bahwa orang yang selalu datang kepada kita itu adalah abdi Allah yang kudus. Baiklah kita membuat sebuah kamar atas yang kecil yang berdinding batu, dan baiklah kita menaruh di sana baginya sebuah tempat tidur, sebuah meja, sebuah kursi dan sebuah kandil, maka apabila ia datang kepada kita, ia boleh masuk ke sana.” Pada suatu hari datanglah ia ke sana, lalu masuklah ia ke kamar atas itu dan tidur di situ. Kemudian berkatalah Elisa: “Apakah yang dapat kuperbuat baginya?” Jawab Gehazi: “Ah, ia tidak mempunyai anak, dan suaminya sudah tua.” Lalu berkatalah Elisa: “Panggillah dia!” Dan sesudah dipanggilnya, berdirilah perempuan itu di pintu. Atau tidak tahukah kamu, bahwa kita semua yang telah dibaptis dalam Kristus, telah dibaptis dalam kematian-Nya? Dengan demikian kita telah dikuburkan bersama-sama dengan Dia oleh baptisan dalam kematian, supaya, sama seperti Kristus telah dibangkitkan dari antara orang mati oleh kemuliaan Bapa, demikian juga kita akan hidup dalam hidup yang baru. Jadi jika kita telah mati dengan Kristus, kita percaya, bahwa kita akan hidup juga dengan Dia. Karena kita tahu, bahwa Kristus, sesudah Ia bangkit dari antara orang mati, tidak mati lagi: maut tidak berkuasa lagi atas Dia. Sebab kematian-Nya adalah kematian terhadap dosa, satu kali dan untuk selama-lamanya, dan kehidupan-Nya adalah kehidupan bagi Allah. Demikianlah hendaknya kamu memandangnya: bahwa kamu telah mati bagi dosa, tetapi kamu hidup bagi Allah dalam Kristus Yesus.

それともあなたがたは知らないのですか。キリスト・イエスに結ばれるために洗礼を受けたわたしたちが皆、またその死にあずかるために洗礼を受けたことを。わたしたちは洗礼によってキリストと共に葬られ、その死にあずかるものとなりました。それは、キリストが御父の栄光によって死者の中から復活させられたように、わたしたちも新しい命に生きるためなのです。わたしたちは、キリストと共に死んだのなら、キリストと共に生きることにもなると信じます。そして、死者の中から復活させられたキリストはもはや死ぬことがない、と知っています。死は、もはやキリストを支配しません。キリストが死なれたのは、ただ一度罪に対して死なれたのであり、生きておられるのは、神に対して生きておられるのです。このように、あなたがたも自分は罪に対して死んでいるが、キリスト・イエスに結ばれて、神に対して生きているのだと考えなさい。

第二読み物（ローマ人第6章：第3詩–第4詩と第8詩–第11詩）
この読み物はローマ人への手紙です。
私たちがバプテスマ（洗礼）を受けてキリスト・イエスに結び合わされた時、罪の支配力は打ち破られてしまったのです。すなわち、罪を愛する古い性質は、キリストの死によって、キリストと共に葬り去られました。そして、父なる神が、栄光の力でキリストを復活させてくださった時、私たちはキリストの新しいいのちを与えられ、そのいのちに生きる者となりました。罪を愛する古い性質がキリストと共に死んだのですから、確かに私たちは、キリストの新しいいのちを共有しているのです。キリストは死者の中から復活されたので、もう二度と死ぬことはありません。死には、もはやキリストを支配する力がないのです。キリストは、罪の力にとどめを刺すために、ただ一度死なれました。しかし今では、神との絶えることのない交わりの中に生きておられます。ですから、あなたがたの古い罪の性質も、罪に対して死んだもの、反応しなくなったものとみなしなさい。そして、その代わりに、私たちの主イエス・キリストに結ばれ、神に対して生きる者、神の御声に敏感に応答する者となりなさい。
福音書（マタイ第10章：第37詩–第42詩）
この読み物はマタイの福音書です。
「わたし以上に父や母を愛する者は、わたしを信じる者にふさわしくありません。また、わたしよりも息子や娘を愛する者は、わたしを信じる者にふさわしくありません。さらに、自分の十字架を負ってわたしに従って来ない者は、わたしを信じる者にふさわしくありません。自分のいのちを一生懸命守ろうとする者は、それを失いますが、わたしのためにいのちを捨てる者は、それを自分のものとします。あなたがたを受け入れる人は、わたしを受け入れるのです。わたしを受け入れる人は、わたしをお遣わしになった神を受け入れているのです。もし預言者を、神から遣わされた預言者だというので受け入れるなら、預言者と同じ報いを受けるでしょう。また、神を敬う正しい人たちを、彼らが神を敬うというので受け入れるなら、彼らと同じ報いを受けます。また、この小さい者のひとりに、わたしに代わって冷たい水一杯でも与えるなら、よく言っておきますが、その人は必ず報いを受けるのです。」

Un giorno Eliseo passava per Sunem, ove c'era una donna facoltosa, che l'invitò con insistenza a tavola. In seguito, tutte le volte che passava, si fermava a mangiare da lei. Essa disse al marito: “Io so che è un uomo di Dio, un santo, colui che passa sempre da noi. Prepariamogli una piccola camera al piano di sopra, in muratura, mettiamoci un letto, un tavolo, una sedia e una lampada, sì che, venendo da noi, vi si possa ritirare.” Recatosi egli un giorno là, si ritirò nella camera e vi si coricò. Eliseo replicò: “Che cosa si può fare per lei?” Ghecazi disse: “Purtroppo essa non ha figli e suo marito è vecchio.” Eliseo disse: “Chiamala!” La chiamò; essa si fermò sulla porta. Allora disse: “L'anno prossimo, in questa stessa stagione, tu terrai in braccio un figlio.” Essa rispose: “No, mio signore, uomo di Dio, non mentire con la tua serva.”
Seconda lettura (Romani 6: 3–4 e 8–11)
Una lettura della Lettera di San Paolo ai Romani.
O non sapete che quanti siamo stati battezzati in Cristo Gesù, siamo stati battezzati nella sua morte? Per mezzo del battesimo siamo dunque stati sepolti insieme a lui nella morte, perché come Cristo fu risuscitato dai morti per mezzo della gloria del Padre, così anche noi possiamo camminare in una vita nuova. Ma se siamo morti con Cristo, crediamo che anche vivremo con lui, sapendo che Cristo risuscitato dai morti non muore più; la morte non ha più potere su di lui. Per quanto riguarda la sua morte, egli morì al peccato una volta per tutte; ora invece per il fatto che egli vive, vive per Dio. Così anche voi consideratevi morti al peccato, ma viventi per Dio, in Cristo Gesù.
Vangelo (Matteo 10: 37–42)
Una lettura del Santo Vangelo secondo San Matteo.
Chi ama il padre o la madre più di me non è degno di me; chi ama il figlio o la figlia più di me non è degno di me; chi non prende la sua croce e non mi segue, non è degno di me. Chi avrà trovato la sua vita, la perderà: e chi avrà perduto la sua vita per causa mia, la troverà. Chi accoglie voi accoglie me, e chi accoglie me accoglie colui che mi ha mandato. Chi accoglie un profeta come profeta, avrà la ricompensa del profeta, e chi accoglie un giusto come giusto, avrà la ricompensa del giusto. E chi avrà dato anche solo un bicchiere di acqua fresca a uno di questi piccoli, perché è mio discepolo, in verità io vi dico: non perderà la sua ricompensa.
