First reading (Daniel 7: 9–10 and 13–14)
A reading from the book of Daniel.
As I watched: Thrones were set up and the Ancient One took his throne. His clothing was bright as snow, and the hair on his head as white as wool; his throne was flames of fire, with wheels of burning fire. A surging stream of fire flowed out from where he sat. Thousands upon thousands were ministering to him, and myriads upon myriads attended him. The court was convened and the books were opened. As the visions during the night continued, I saw: One like a Son of man coming, on the clouds of heaven. When he reached the Ancient One and was presented before him, the one like a Son of man received dominion, glory, and kingship; all peoples, nations, and languages serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, his kingship shall not be destroyed.
Second reading (2 Peter 1: 16–19)
A reading from the second letter of Saint Peter.
Beloved: We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that unique declaration came to him from the majestic glory, “This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. Moreover, we possess the prophetic message that is altogether reliable. You will do well to be attentive to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
Gospel (Matthew 17: 1–9)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother, John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, “Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

I looked at saw the following: Some thrones were set in place and One of Great Age took his seat. His robe was white as snow, his hair white as washed wool. His throne was flames of fire with wheels of blazing fire. A river of fire sprang forth and flowed before him. Thousands upon thousands served him and a countless multitude stood before him. Those in the tribunal took their seats and opened the book. I continued watching the nocturnal vision: One like a son of man came on the clouds of heaven. He faced the One of Great Age and was brought into his presence. Dominion, honor and kingship were given him, and all the peoples and nations of every language served him. His dominion is eternal and shall never pass away; his kingdom will never be destroyed.
Second Reading (2 Peter 1: 16–19)
A reading from the second letter of Saint Peter.
Indeed, what we taught you about the power and the return of Christ Jesus our Lord was not drawn from myths or formulated theories. We ourselves were eyewitnesses of his majesty, when he received glory and honor from God the Father, when from the magnificent Glory this most extraordinary word came upon him: "This is my believed Son, this is my Chosen One." We ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. Therefore, we believe most firmly in the message of the prophets which you should consider rightly as a lamp shining in a dark place, until the break of day, when the Morning Star shines in your hearts.
Gospel (Matthew 17: 1–9)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain where they were alone. Jesus' appearance was changed before them: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became bright as light. Just then Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Jesus. Peter spoke and said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are here. If you so wish, I will make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." Peter was still speaking when a bright cloud covered them in its shadow, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, the Beloved, my Chosen One. Listen to him." One hearing the voice, the disciples fell to the ground, full of fear. But Jesus came, touched them and said, "Stand up, do not be afraid." When they raised their eyes, they no longer saw anyone except Jesus. And as they came down the mountain, Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone what they had just seen, until the Son of Man be raised from the dead.

Yo estuve mirando hasta que fueron colocados unos tronos y un Anciano se sentó. Su vestidura era blanca como la nieve y los cabellos de su cabeza como la lana pura; su trono, llamas de fuego, con ruedas de fuego ardiente. Un río de fuego brotaba y corría delante de él. Miles de millares lo servían, y centenares de miles estaban de pie en su presencia. El tribunal se sentó y fueron abiertos unos libros. Yo estaba mirando, en las visiones nocturnas, y vi que venía sobre las nubes del cielo como un Hijo de hombre; él avanzó hacia el Anciano y lo hicieron acercar hasta él. Y le fue dado el dominio, la gloria y el reino, y lo sirvieron todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas. Su dominio es un dominio eterno que no pasará, y su reino no será destruido.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 97) (Versículos 1–2, 5–6, y 9)

Segunda lectura (2 Pedro 1: 16–19)

En efecto, no hemos sacado de fábulas o de teorías inventadas lo que les hemos enseñado sobre el poder y la venida de Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor. Con nuestros propios ojos hemos contemplado su majestad cuando recibió de Dios Padre gloria y honor. En efecto llegó sobre él la propia palabra de la gloriosa Majestad: “Este es mi Hijo muy querido, el que me agradó elegir.” Nosotros mismos escuchamos esa voz venida del cielo estando con él en el monte santo. A consecuencia de esto creemos más firmemente en el mensaje de los profetas, y deben tenerlo como una lámpara que luce en un lugar oscuro, hasta que se levante el día y el lucero de la mañana brille en sus corazones.
Evangelio (Mateo 17: 1–9)

Seis días después, Jesús tomó consigo a Pedro, a Santiago y a su hermano Juan, y los llevó aparte a un monte alto. A la vista de ellos su aspecto cambió completamente: su cara brillaba como el sol y su ropa se volvió blanca como la luz. En seguida vieron a Moisés y Elías hablando con Jesús. Pedro tomó la palabra y dijo a Jesús: “Señor, ¡qué bueno es que estemos aquí! Si quieres, levantaré aquí tres tiendas: una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías.” Estaba Pedro todavía hablando cuando una nube luminosa los cubrió con su sombra y una voz que salía de la nube dijo: “¡Este es mi Hijo, el Amado; éste es mi Elegido, escúchenlo!” Al oír esto, los discípulos cayeron con el rostro en tierra, llenos de temor Jesús se acercó a ellos, y tocándolos, les dijo: “Levántense, no tengan miedo.” Ellos levantaron los ojos, pero ya no vieron a nadie más que a Jesús. Mientras bajaban del monte, Jesús les ordenó: “No hablen a nadie de esta visión, hasta que el Hijo del hombre resucite de entre los muertos.”

Habang ako'y nakatingin, mayroong naglagay ng mga trono. Naupo sa isa sa mga ito ang Nabubuhay Magpakailanpaman. Puting-puti ang kanyang kasuotan at gayundin ang kanyang buhok. Ang trono niya'y naglalagablab at ang mga gulong nito'y nagliliyab. Parang bukal ang apoy na dumadaloy mula sa kanya. Pinaglilingkuran siya ng milyun-milyon, bukod pa sa daan-daang milyon na nakatayo sa harap niya. Humanda na siya sa paggagawad ng hatol at binuksan ang mga aklat. Patuloy ang aking pangitain. Nakita ko sa alapaap sa langit ang parang isang tao. Lumapit siya sa Nabubuhay Magpakailanpaman. Binigyan siya ng kapamahalaan, ng karangalan at ng kaharian upang paglingkuran siya ng lahat ng tao sa bawat bansa at wika. Ang pamamahala niya ay hindi magwawakas, at ang kanyang kaharian ay hindi mawawasak.

Ito'y nangyari nang marinig namin ang tinig mula sa dakilang kaluwalhatian ng langit na nagsabing, “Ito ang minamahal kong Anak na lubos kong kinalulugdan.” Narinig namin ito mula sa langit sapagkat kami'y kasama niya nang ito'y maganap sa banal na bundok. Kaya naman lalong tumibay ang aming paniniwala sa ipinahayag ng mga propeta. Mula rito'y may tinig na nagsabi, “Ito ang minamahal kong Anak na lubos kong kinalulugdan. Pakinggan ninyo siya!” Nang marinig ng mga alagad ang tinig, labis silang natakot at nagpatirapa. Ngunit nilapitan sila ni Jesus at hinawakan. “Tumayo kayo, huwag kayong matakot!” sabi niya. Nang tumingin sila, si Jesus na lamang ang kanilang nakita. Habang sila'y bumababa sa bundok, iniutos sa kanila ni Jesus, “Huwag ninyong sasabihin kaninuman ang tungkol sa pangitain hangga't hindi muling nabubuhay ang Anak ng Tao.”

Lalu duduklah Majelis Pengadilan dan dibukalah Kitab-kitab. Aku terus melihat dalam penglihatan malam itu, tampak datang dengan awan-awan dari langit seorang seperti anak manusia; datanglah ia kepada Yang Lanjut Usianya itu, dan ia dibawa ke hadapan-Nya. Lalu diberikan kepadanya kekuasaan dan kemuliaan dan kekuasaan sebagai raja, maka orang-orang dari segala bangsa, suku bangsa dan bahasa mengabdi kepadanya. Kekuasaannya ialah kekuasaan yang kekal, yang tidak akan lenyap, dan kerajaannya ialah kerajaan yang tidak akan musnah.

Kami menyaksikan, bagaimana Ia menerima kehormatan dan kemuliaan dari Allah Bapa, ketika datang kepada-Nya suara dari Yang Mahamulia, yang mengatakan: "Inilah Anak yang Kukasihi, kepada-Nyalah Aku berkenan." Suara itu kami dengar datang dari surga, ketika kami bersama-sama dengan Dia di atas gunung yang kudus. Dengan demikian kami makin diteguhkan oleh firman yang telah disampaikan oleh para nabi. Dan tiba-tiba sedang ia berkata-kata turunlah awan yang terang menaungi mereka dan dari dalam awan itu terdengar suara yang berkata: "Inilah Anak yang Kukasihi, kepada-Nyalah Aku berkenan, dengarkanlah Dia." Mendengar itu tersungkurlah murid-murid-Nya dan mereka sangat ketakutan. Lalu Yesus datang kepada mereka dan menyentuh mereka sambil berkata: "Berdirilah, jangan takut!" Dan ketika mereka mengangkat kepala, mereka tidak melihat seorang pun kecuali Yesus seorang diri. Pada waktu mereka turun dari gunung itu, Yesus berpesan kepada mereka: "Jangan kamu ceriterakan penglihatan itu kepada seorang pun sebelum Anak Manusia dibangkitkan dari antara orang mati."

見ていると、幾つかの王座が備えられ、全能の神が審判のため、その座におつきになりました。その衣は雪のように白く、髪の毛は純白の羊毛のようでした。燃える車輪で運ばれて来た火の王座に、神は座りました。神の前からは火の川が流れ出ていました。何百万の御使いが神に仕えており、何億という人が神の前に立って、さばきを待っていました。それから法廷が開かれ、幾つかの書物が開かれたのです。次に、人のように見えるお方が、天からの雲に乗って来るのが見えました。その方は、神の前に導かれました。人のように見えるこの方は、世界の国々を治める権力と栄光とを与えられていました。それで、どの国の民もみな、この方に従わなければなりません。この方の権力は永遠で、決して終わることがありません。その国は滅びることがないのです。
詩編（第97章：第1詩–第2詩と第5詩–第6詩と第9詩）
お答えは「主は全世界の王だって、威厳に満ちた支配が全地に行き渡ります」。
• 主は全世界の王です。大地よ、喜んで跳びはねなさい。最果ての島々も喜びなさい。雲と暗闇が主を取り囲み、正義がその王座の土台です。
• 山々は、主の前でろうのように溶けました。天は主の正義を宣言し、世界中の人々が主の栄光を仰ぎます。
• 主の威厳に満ちた支配が全地に行き渡り、他の神々ははるか足もとにも及ばないのですから。
第二読み物（ペテロの手紙II第1章：第16詩–第19詩）
この読み物はペテロの手紙二です。
主イエス・キリストの力と再臨（キリストが再び地上に来られること）について話してきましたが、それは、私たちがうまく考え出した作り話ではありません。私はこの目で、キリストの輝きと栄光をはっきり見たのです。キリストが聖なる山の上で、父なる神から誉れと栄光とを受けて輝かれた時、私はその場に居合わせました。その時、「これこそわたしの愛する子、わたしの大いなる喜び」と、栄光にあふれる厳かな声が天から響くのを、私ははっきり聞いたのです。こうして私は、預言のことばが現実となるのを目のあたりにしました。そのことばは、暗い部屋をすみずみまで照らし出す明かりのようで、難解なまま、暗闇の中に置かれている多くのことがらに光をあて、理解させてくれるものです。そして、あなたがたのたましいに夜明けの光が差し込み、明けの明星であるキリストが心を照らしてくださるのです。

六日の後、イエスは、ペトロ、それにヤコブとその兄弟ヨハネだけを連れて、高い山に登られた。イエスの姿が彼らの目の前で変わり、顔は太陽のように輝き、服は光のように白くなった。見ると、モーセとエリヤが現れ、イエスと語り合っていた。ペトロが口をはさんでイエスに言った。「主よ、わたしたちがここにいるのは、すばらしいことです。お望みでしたら、わたしがここに仮小屋を三つ建てましょう。一つはあなたのため、一つはモーセのため、もう一つはエリヤのためです。」ペトロがこう話しているうちに、光り輝く雲が彼らを覆った。すると、「これはわたしの愛する子、わたしの心に適う者。これに聞け」という声が雲の中から聞こえた。弟子たちはこれを聞いてひれ伏し、非常に恐れた。イエスは近づき、彼らに手を触れて言われた。「起きなさい。恐れることはない。」彼らが顔を上げて見ると、イエスのほかにはだれもいなかった。一同が山を下りるとき、イエスは、「人の子が死者の中から復活するまで、今見たことをだれにも話してはならない」と弟子たちに命じられた。
