A reading from the book of Revelation.
I, John, saw another angel come up from the East, holding the seal of the living God. He cried out in a loud voice to the four angels who were given power to damage the land and the sea, "Do not damage the land or the sea or the trees until we put the seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God." I heard the number of those who had been marked with the seal, one hundred and forty-four thousand marked from every tribe of the children of Israel. After this, I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation comes from our God, who is seated on the throne, and from the Lamb." All the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They prostrated themselves before the throne, worshiped God, and exclaimed: "Amen. Blessing and glory, wisdom and thanksgiving, honor, power, and might be to our God forever and ever. Amen." Then one of the elders spoke up and said to me, "Who are these wearing white robes, and where did they come from?" I said to him, "My lord, you are the one who knows." He said to me, "These are the ones who have survived the time of great distress; they have washed their robes and made them white in the Blood of the Lamb."
Second reading (1 John 3: 1–3)
A reading from the first letter of Saint John.
Beloved: See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. Yet so we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure.
Gospel (Matthew 5: 1–12a)

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven."

Second reading (1 John 3: 1–3)

Beloved: See what singular love the Father has for us: we are called children of God, and we really are. This is why the world does not know us, because it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children and what we shall be has not yet been shown. Yet when he appears in his glory, we know that we shall be like him, for then we shall see him as he is. All who have such a hope try to be pure as he is pure.

First reading (Wisdom 3: 1–9)
A reading from the book of Wisdom.
The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace. For if before men, indeed, they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality; chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of himself. As gold in the furnace, he proved them, and as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself. In the time of their visitation they shall shine, and shall dart about as sparks through stubble; they shall judge nations and rule over peoples, and the LORD shall be their King forever. Those who trust in him shall understand truth, and the faithful shall abide with him in love: because grace and mercy are with his holy ones, and his care is with his elect.
Second reading (Romans 5: 5–11) (Option 1)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.
Brothers and sisters: Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. For Christ, while we were still helpless, died at the appointed time for the ungodly. Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. How much more then, since we are now justified by his Blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath. Indeed, if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, once reconciled, will we be saved by his life. Not only that, but we also boast of God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Second reading (Romans 6: 3–9) (Option 2)

Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. For if we have grown into union with him through a death like his, we shall also be united with him in the resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be done away with, that we might no longer be in slavery to sin. For a dead person has been absolved from sin. If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him.
Gospel (John 6: 37–40)

Jesus said to the crowds: "Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day."

Their going is held as a disaster; it seems that they lose everything by departing from us, but they are in peace. Though seemingly they have been punished, immortality was the soul of their hope. After slight affliction will come great blessings, for God has tried them and found them worthy to be with him; after testing them as gold in the furnace, he has accepted them as a holocaust. At the time of his coming, they will shine like sparks that run in the stubble. They will govern nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord will be their king forever. Those who trust in him will penetrate the truth; those who are faithful will live with him in love, for his grace and mercy are for his chosen ones.
Second reading (Romans 5: 5–11) (Option 1)

Hope does not us because the Holy Spirit has been given to us, pouring into our hearts the love of God. Consider, moreover, the time that Christ died for us: when we were still sinners and unable to do anything. Few would accept to die for an upright person; although, for a very good person, perhaps someone would dare to die. But see how God manifested his love for us: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us and we have become just his blood. With much more reason now he will save us from any condemnation. Once enemies, we have been reconciled with God through the death of his Son; with much more reason now we may be saved through his life. Not only that; we secure in God because of Christ Jesus, our Lord, through whom we have been reconciled.
Second reading (Romans 6: 3–9) (Option 2)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.
You know that in baptism which unites us to Christ we are all baptized and plunged into his death. By this baptism in his death, we were buried with Christ and, as Christ was raised from among the dead by the Glory of the Father, so we begin walking in a new life. It was an image of his death when we were grafted in him, and so we will also share in his resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with Christ, so as to destroy what of us was sin, so that we may no longer serve sin — if we are dead, we are no longer in debt to sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe we will also live with him. We know that Christ, once risen from the dead, will not die again and death has no more dominion over him.
Gospel (John 6: 37–40)

Jesus stated to the Jews: "Yet, all that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me, I shall not turn away. For I have come from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of the One who sent me. Queridos hijos: Miren cuánto amor nos ha tenido el Padre, pues no sólo nos llamamos hijos de Dios, sino que lo somos. Si el mundo no nos reconoce, es porque tampoco lo ha reconocido a él. Hermanos míos, ahora somos hijos de Dios, pero aún no se ha manifestado cómo seremos al fin. Y ya sabemos que, cuando él se manifieste, vamos a ser semejantes a él, porque lo veremos tal cual es. Todo el que tenga puesta en Dios esta esperanza, se purifica a sí mismo para ser tan puro como él.

En aquel tiempo, cuando Jesús vio a la muchedumbre, subió al monte y se sentó. Entonces se le acercaron sus discípulos. Dichosos los sufridos, porque heredarán la tierra. Dichosos los que tienen hambre y sed de justicia, porque serán saciados. Dichosos los misericordiosos, porque obtendrán misericordia. Nakatayo sila sa harap ng trono at ng Kordero, nakadamit ng puti at may hawak na mga palaspas. Isinisigaw nila, “Ang kaligtasan ay nagmumula sa ating Diyos na nakaluklok sa trono, at sa Kordero!” Tumayo ang lahat ng anghel sa palibot ng trono, ng matatandang pinuno, at ng apat na nilalang na buháy. Sila'y nagpatirapa sa harap ng trono at sumamba sa Diyos na nagsasabi, “Amen! Sa ating Diyos ang papuri, kaluwalhatian, karunungan, pasasalamat, karangalan, kapangyarihan, at kalakasan magpakailanman! Amen.” Tinanong ako ng isa sa matatandang pinuno, “Sino ang mga taong nakadamit ng puti, at saan sila nanggaling?” “Ginoo, kayo po ang nakakaalam,” ang sagot ko. Ikalawang pagbasa (1 Juan 3: 1–3)

Tingnan ninyo kung gaano kalaki ang pag-ibig sa atin ng Ama! Tinatawag tayong mga anak ng Diyos, at iyon nga ang totoo. Ang dahilan kung bakit hindi tayo nakikilala ng mga makasanlibutan ay hindi nila kinikilala ang Diyos. Mga minamahal, mga anak na tayo ng Diyos ngayon, ngunit hindi pa nahahayag ang magiging kalagayan natin. Ngunit alam nating sa pagdating ni Cristo, tayo'y magiging katulad niya, sapagkat makikita natin kung sino talaga siya. Kaya't ang sinumang may ganitong pag-asa kay Cristo ay nagsisikap na maging malinis tulad niyang malinis.

Sapagkat ang namatay na ay pinalaya mula sa kapangyarihan ng kasalanan. Kung tayo'y namatay nang kasama ni Cristo, naniniwala tayong mabubuhay rin tayong kasama niya. Alam nating si Cristo na muling binuhay ay hindi na muling mamamatay. Wala nang kapangyarihan sa kanya ang kamatayan.
Ebanghelyo (Juan 6: 37–40)

Tetapi jiwa orang benar ada di tangan Allah, dan siksaan tiada menimpa mereka. Menurut pandangan orang bodoh mereka mati nampaknya, dan pulang mereka dianggap malapetaka, dan kepergiannya dari kita dipandang sebagai kehancuran, namun mereka berada dalam ketenteraman. Kalaupun mereka disiksa menurut pandangan manusia, namun harapan mereka penuh kebakaan. Setelah disiksa sebentar mereka menerima anugerah yang besar, sebab Allah hanya menguji mereka, lalu mendapati mereka layak bagi diri-Nya. Laksana emas dalam dapur api diperiksalah mereka oleh-Nya, lalu diterima bagaikan korban bakaran. Maka pada waktu pembalasan mereka akan bercahaya, dan laksana bunga api berlari-larian di ladang jerami. Mereka akan mengadili para bangsa dan memerintah sekalian rakyat, dan Tuhan berkenan memerintah mereka selama-lamanya. Orang yang telah percaya pada Allah akan memahami kebenaran, dan yang setia dalam kasih akan tinggal pada-Nya. Sebab kasih setia dan belas kasihan menjadi bagian orang-orang pilihan-Nya.
Mazmur (Mazmur 23: 1–6)
Tanggapan adalah: Tuhan adalah gembalaku, takkan kekurangan aku. (Atau: Sekalipun aku berjalan dalam lembah kekelaman, aku tidak takut bahaya, sebab Engkau besertaku.)

Atau tidak tahukah kamu, bahwa kita semua yang telah dibaptis dalam Kristus, telah dibaptis dalam kematian-Nya? Dengan demikian kita telah dikuburkan bersama-sama dengan Dia oleh baptisan dalam kematian, supaya, sama seperti Kristus telah dibangkitkan dari antara orang mati oleh kemuliaan Bapa, demikian juga kita akan hidup dalam hidup yang baru. Karena kita tahu, bahwa Kristus, sesudah Ia bangkit dari antara orang mati, tidak mati lagi: maut tidak berkuasa lagi atas Dia.

Le anime dei giusti, invece, sono nelle mani di Dio, nessun tormento le toccherà. Agli occhi degli stolti parve che morissero; la loro fine fu ritenuta una sciagura, la loro partenza da noi una rovina, ma essi sono nella pace. Anche se agli occhi degli uomini subiscono castighi, la loro speranza è piena di immortalità. Per una breve pena riceveranno grandi benefici, perché Dio li ha provati e li ha trovati degni di sé: li ha saggiati come oro nel crogiuolo e li ha graditi come un olocausto. Nel giorno del loro giudizio risplenderanno; come scintille nella stoppia, correranno qua e là. Governeranno le nazioni, avranno potere sui popoli e il Signore regnerà per sempre su di loro. Quanti confidano in lui comprenderanno la verità; coloro che gli sono fedeli vivranno presso di lui nell'amore, perché grazia e misericordia sono riservate ai suoi eletti.

Seconda lettura (Romani 6: 3–9)
Una lettura della lettera di San Paolo ai Romani.
O non sapete che quanti siamo stati battezzati in Cristo Gesù, siamo stati battezzati nella sua morte? Per mezzo del battesimo siamo dunque stati sepolti insieme a lui nella morte, perché come Cristo fu risuscitato dai morti per mezzo della gloria del Padre, così anche noi possiamo camminare in una vita nuova. Se infatti siamo stati completamente uniti a lui con una morte simile alla sua, lo saremo anche con la sua risurrezione. Sappiamo bene che il nostro uomo vecchio è stato crocifisso con lui, perché fosse distrutto il corpo del peccato, e noi non fossimo più schiavi del peccato. Infatti chi è morto, è ormai libero dal peccato. Ma se siamo morti con Cristo, crediamo che anche vivremo con lui, sapendo che Cristo risuscitato dai morti non muore più; la morte non ha più potere su di lui.
